@@Cucker_Tarlson56 No, the Battle of 73 Easting was the Gulf War, the first major action since Vietnam and 10 years before the battle in this video. The Iraqis should've remembered what happened to them in 1990. I give them props for being brave though. And at this point they were defending their capitol, so it makes sense they'd fight harder and take more risks.

22:05 this part of the story stuck out to me and made me read up on SFC Kevin Camp: the guy was unexpectedly briefly put in charge of the 5th largest dam in the Middle East because, even though he was an army engineer, his only experience working at a dam was a 3-month internship he did after high school. He and the other engineers worked around the clock to repair the dam even though he knew it could flood at any minute and kill everybody inside. When his Major thought he heard the dam collapsing and made a run for the stairs, SFC Camp just replied, "No sense in running; you can die tired or just die." He understood the strategic importance of keeping the dam operational because not only would it flood the Euphrates if it broke--flooding an active warzone and likely killing thousands of civilians and possibly U.S. military--he knew that the Iraqi civilians were still on the fence about the U.S. invasion, and if the dam broke the public might assume that the U.S. military intentionally destroyed it, thus shifting public opinion and likely the large-scale outcome of the war.
I am just lost for words at the total incapability of the Iraqi army. Comparing the casualty rates makes me think of the conquistadors or other colonial wars where the natives had mass casualties against a smaller western army.
The Iraqi army was in a pretty bad posture Not only was it starved for 13 years It was suprise attacked with overwhelming power and had a huge technological disadvantage on top of that they had a brutal dictator breathing down their neck with many of them not wanting to die for him
@RK-cj4oc The coalition forces made progress significantly faster than the Iraqi command expected them to, which led to surprised Iraqi units in 1991, as many formations weren't prepared to fight as they believed they were safe in the far rear In 2003, the Iraqis expected another air campaign that would last for weeks before ground forces moved into Iraq, but this didn't happen. That's how the US achieved surprise in both campaigns in different ways

This was the United States first major action after Vietnam. That’s 20 years difference. Nobody had the shit we had at this point. GPS is why US armor was able to outflank the Iraqis at the battle of 73 Eastings. Nobody could comprehend the technology we were bringing to bare at that point.
And this was after losing hard during Desert Storm under similar conditions. They had a decade to improve on this
@@joost00555their mistake was trusting that the Americans will not invade on a bullshit lie
I remember my unit crossing that bridge. They were still fighting at Objective Peach. Fun day.
I remeber the traffic jam on the west side of the bridge as we waited for the boats to cross, then we had to clear spider holes on the side of the road, we finally stopped after our co’s track killed 3 bmp along the canal
I haven't gotten to the end yet but I sure hope to get that reporter's name that jumped in the water. Great presentation as always.
trying to find that info myself
I was with 2nd Battalion - 7th Infantry Regiment (Cottonbalers)- 3rd Infantry Division. (2-7). I was in the 2nd Bradley to reach Peach.
I remember being there, I feel old now, thanks
Thank you for another excellently researched and presented - Documentary. True unbiased, honest historical battle reporting.
Man. Its hard to believe that the stuff i was doing in my 20's is now making it legitimately into the history books.
No shit right… crazy i remeber my platoon sgt saying it would be part of history…
This was a combat engineers battle, saving bridges and dams one mouthful of chewing tobacco at a time.
I am just lost for words at the total incapability of the Iraqi army. Comparing the casualty rates makes me think of the conquistadors or other colonial wars where the natives had mass casualties against a smaller western army.
The conquistadors were not the only ones engaged in the fighting, they had armies of Tlaxcalan men who did a good portion of the lifting for them.
The Iraqi army was in a pretty bad posture
Not only was it starved for 13 years
It was suprise attacked with overwhelming power and had a huge technological disadvantage on top of that they had a brutal dictator breathing down their neck with many of them not wanting to die for him
@@xahmadx6442"surprise attack"
6 months of build up and a huge airbombment and an ultimatum before invading is not surprise in any way.
@@user-vp9lc9up6v that wasn't always the case
@RK-cj4oc The coalition forces made progress significantly faster than the Iraqi command expected them to, which led to surprised Iraqi units in 1991, as many formations weren't prepared to fight as they believed they were safe in the far rear
In 2003, the Iraqis expected another air campaign that would last for weeks before ground forces moved into Iraq, but this didn't happen. That's how the US achieved surprise in both campaigns in different ways
Hey there, i really appreciate the time you put into making each of these videos and I recommend this channel to friends. Have you considered releasing a version of these videos that do not have background music? the horn sound has become quite distracting since the track is a short loop that repeats many times per episode.
I really respect the hustle and I get that Sponsorships are super important to YTer's income, but I would rather fight the Coalition forces with a rock than willingly give my DNA to a private company. They'll have to come and get it themselves.
Anyway, great video! Keep up the awesome content.
Top notch content 👊🏼
I remember crossing that bridge during the invasion, it was wild. Sgt stevens of a1-30 attached to 3-7 took out an artillery piece during the counter attack. He blasted that thing with a tow missile from his Bradley. Saved a bunch of lives that day patiently waiting in the rear until all units have crossed. They thought they were sneaky but not as sneaky as sgt Stevens Bradley and crew!
Awesome as always. That push through the desert done by the 3rd’s Armored Divisions was something to behold.
Can't wait to hear what you have to say about "The Thunder Runs."
I later lived at a future platoon patrol base on the west side of the bridge at Obj Peach in 2007-2008.
Wow, are we related?! Anthony is my dad, too!
Yes brother
@@TheOperationsRoomcan I be your brother pretty please?!
@@TheOperationsRoom Funnily enough, both our parent's birth years match! We might not be related but I'd hazard a guess you may have a sibling born in the 70s..
Hey man, genetically we’re all distant cousins anyways
Luke, I am your father.
The best part of this retelling is the tiny bit about the reporter diving In to save a man.
Being an engineer flying into active war zones to repair critical infrastructure has to be one of the most bad ass jobs ever.
Would love to a series on the Iran-Iraq war for sure!
Make a video game with this kinda art. Would buy.
As always amazing work. Thanks!
Just realized the forces for the assault on Debecka Pass are seen in the North west portion of the battle map. I knew I recognized that lineup of forces.
Love your work TOR. Would you ever consider covering a pre-WWII conflict, maybe WWI, the U.S. Civil War, or the U.S.-Mexican War?
In an old saying: if you dont control the air, you are fighting in the dark.
Great content as usual 👏
Would you ever consider doing videos on the Chechen wars or other post soviet conflicts?
This would be great. There are a few videos but they're heavily skewed against Russia, and it destroys the history aspect of the events.
Disturban just did a video on Beslan, if you're interested.
Kings and Generals has one on the Chechen wars I think.
Invicta has done some Chechen videos as well.
14:25 The 92nd Chemical company, or as we called ourselves, the 92nd Criminal company. I was with them.
Hold on honey…. new Operation Room video just dropped
Rangers are the Way, sir
Damn right.
To think that I joined 3-69 AR after the push....I PCS'ed from Iraq in 2003. Originally I was supposed to be with 3rd ID before the war kicked off only to have a stop movement imposed on all troops that were going to have a change of station. on 16SEP03, I moved to 3rd ID and the very unit that conducted attacks on both the Karbala Gap and Objective peach. the unit I was in was located 1500M from the Iranian border in the town of Mandali and we conducted operations with the PUK. 1-41 FA is also known as "Glory's guns"
My father was 3-69 at the time too. Vitesse et puissance
Need to take a bridge, best way would be to take both ends at the same time, and they did river crossing with inflatable boats at 13:37? Even doing suppressing fire and with smoke cover?
This guy most definitely have watched A Bridge Too Far lol.
Or was that kind of operation based on the standard US guideline for taking control of a bridge? Idk.
Awesome! This is what the history channel should be!
The whole project and every video is pretty cool but plz show mechinized warfare and breaching operations in more details
Objective Peach ,was indeed quite a battle for the bridge, as he had put it ,it goes back to the bridge at Remagen in WW2, Great vid 👍😊
The frankly amazing thing is the low casualties the US and allies had. It goes to show the power of good training, organization, and overwhelming firepower.
I bet halfway across that river at least one of the engineers was thinking it was better to wait and install the engines.
It was infantry in the boats with paddles. It was 3rd platoon from my company B co 3-7 infantry.
And yes they were pissed they didn’t have motors and a couple of the boats actually deflated and almost sunk
"One of the sappers dead pans, 'Oh we're dead.'" XD It's things like this that make comfortable with putting humorous lines in serious situations in my fiction books.
5:50 Jesus. They were just stacking bodies, literally!
Excellent video!
Great video thanks
This is the most detailed look at the Gulf War I've ever seen! 🔥⚔😎
On google maps you can still see the footprints of the buildings that were dropped and the bridge is still destroyed
12:40 derps moves in against 50 cals
4:00 armoured escort, I mean body escorts armoured tanks.
securing the other side of the bridge for the tanks didn't work out as planned im guessing
4:18 big props to these two men for rescuing the wounded enemy soldiers
M1064 heavy mortar carriers, played a huge role in this invasion.
15:50 How comes that the 9 (!) Tanks on the other riverside where not able to absolutely erase that two story building? Later one Javelin did the trick? I dont mean that in any bad way, I am just wondering.
awesome video as always but at 15:59 you accidentally said southern while you clearly meant northern.
Sgt Stevens: "I guess I'll drown now."
A random reporter with balls of steel: "Not in my headlines, Sgt!"
"We're out of breaching charges! What should we do?"
"YEET!"
sniper "accidentally" hit the propane tank. yeah right, he's waited his whole life for a group of enemy soldiers to be standing around a propane tank
TY 🙏
3:33 Wow that guy had an IRL gamer moment.
sniper shooting the propane tank at 3:31.. wow I thought that kind of thing only worked in video games..
Be cool if you had a key to describe the icons you use on the maps. Love the channel. For the large scale forces I mean.
3:34 This guy got an explosive object kill in real life. What are the odds?
Iraqi T-72 Brigade commander leading from the front is not something you hear a lot of from.
That reporter, has got free beers for life.
I cant wait till you publish what we in 1st Battalion 8th Marines did when leaving Haditha Dam!
If you go to google maps you can see the bridge is still damaged and never fixed.
I saw the same on Google Maps and was wondering why?? It has been more than 20 years and there doesn't seem to be any other river crossing nearby. Glad to see someone else who keeps google maps open during these videos :P
Awesome thanks
C Btry, 1st BN, 41st FA "Glory's Guns" was the direct support unit for 3/69 Armor. Will there be another video showing the occupation of Baghdad including the thunder runs?
Yes!
