I have Epic Games, but I don't really use it other than to see what's free and to get whatever is available. Which is kinda hilarious knowing at the end of the day, someone has to get paid. It's nice to have a competitor to Steam, but Steam just does it better in every way, has way more game variety for every type of person, and has been around for way longer. My biggest factor is that I've started with Steam long before Epic Games was a hit thing. So buying on Steam is my go to where I can access my whole library. I don't like splitting my library up which means buying on Epic is not an option for me.
I agree, but Epic's store and platform are not at all built for socializing, and Steam's store is leagues better at handling game ratings, sales, advertising, and keeping players interested.
Personally I think GOG could caught Steam. They actually has several advantages over Steam. They got a pretty solid library of games. You virtually own the games with no strings attached. Plus they include nice bonuses for majority of the games they offer. GOG Galaxy also keeps track of your other gaming accounts across all platforms it's connected to. Hell if you have bad internet connection. They also offer offline installers for their games too. But wait there's more, they also allow you to play a particular update of a game too. So if you don't like the game after several updates, you can manually choose the version you wanna play. GOG also gives out free games either in free games category or their giveaways. They also do DOS games notably better than Steam as well. Earlier this year, some PlayStation games gotten onto the service. A few weeks ago, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance got added. Officially GOG is killing most of Steam's competition.
Yea problem with GOG UI. It just sucks. As bad as Epics. If they would do something about that i'd switch over to their launcher....But they aren't gonna. Also very much enjoy not seeing the trash 100k+ games on Steam so really would like to see other stores allow me to ignore games I just don't care about like Steam.
in my opinion gog is best, I use epic and steam but when it comes to spending money gog is place where I like to spend my money on games. You buy, you own the game, right?
I'm not a PC gamer but just got into my epic account and ordered the free Lego game... For a rainy day. Or when I figure out where or how to play on my Mac Air.
I have a few games I picked up free from Epic but I haven't had the time to play them. I will most definitely play Death Stranding and perhaps also Black Book.
Thank fuck for epic games giving free games. I recently thought to try warhammer mechanicus cuz it looked cool and holy shit its now one of my fave games of all time, its making me slowly become a warhammer fan lol.
Had a few free games on epic requiring me to make accounts (yes more than one) to just play one game. Needless to say I uninstalled right after. No thanks. Any steam games that require 3rd party accounts, I avoid. As a rule, always 7 seas before buying unless there is demo, and if I like it, I'll get the game for real.
Shandell, off topic, but I was hoping you'd make a follow up video on a safe emulation site to get roms from. Previously, you said only Vimm's Lair made the cut. But, I'm sure you're aware what happened last month. Where do you recommend we go these days?
Fellow sailor of the high seas here. You know what kills emulation projects and sites? Popularity. Once an emulator or rom site gets notorous in the scene, it gets shut down. That what happened with Vimm's Lair. It got too popular to be a target of gaming companies. To preserve your favorite sources of games, googling is still your best bet. If by chance it goes mainstream like Vimm's, give it a few months to a year, I guarantee you, it will be in N's crosshairs.
@@MegamanNova I showed off vimms lair in a stream on another site and within a month it got ruined. Not saying my very small viewers killed it but if I find another one I'm not telling anyone except close friends. Keep it on the low!
With everything upcoming that will be utilizing UE5 and beyond most likely revenue will be plenty for epic to continue providing free games. Now they did receive backlash for exclusive games before but I could see where possibly a game using their engine could be given a heavy discount on Epic Store vs anywhere else. The licensing fee for games sold on Epic using the engine from Epic could probably be packaged up nicely.
it is a shame! as casual gamer who did not had a lot opportunities to invest in this hobby cause of circunstances, it is sad that I won't be able to play the many awesome games I've just been watching youtubers talk and show.
I will say this while I have not played through or even touched most of my Epic free games library. The last 2 years of games being completed for me has been from them. As they gave me games I would never buy personally vs other ones, but were fun little games nonetheless.
I bought a few games. Mech Warrior 5 , Hades , Mortel Shell , and all the Rage 2 dlc. So maybe the free giveaways do work. Rage 2 I liked so much I bought all the dlc there.
First i was hesitant to use it. But Batman trilogy and lego batman changed my mind :). From that point i got i think every game that was given out freely. Some game i love some not so much, but that is the nature of things. Its free, its great.
I just don't catch all of them just the ones I am interested in. Despite getting some games for free on Epic I still end up buying them on Steam too because I hate the storefront and user interface of the Epic store so much. That says a lot. However, I am still thankful for many of those games that I can and could collect over the years. A Plague Tale Requiem, Alien Isolation, Ghostwire Tokyo, Control, Guardians of the Galaxy and so on. During the Christmas holidays they still offer much better or more renowned games though.
oh you have the donjon of naheulbeuk...nice. for the people that don't know the game is inspired from a audio series very popular in french...very old by the way, internet was shit at that time.
Well for me I am more a console person bit I have stream. An I just recently un-installed my epics game Downloader I had a few games saints row the 3rd remastered forenite which I not the biggest fan of but I respect those who enjoy it. When I first got epics the options of free games was incredible but me not really having a fully gaming pc an the fact I didn't play the games alot I had to let it go. AWESOME VID
i aleeady have like 155 games in epic games but what im sure with is i only gonna play tomb raider series only not any game mod else i hope they fix the GUI also
Just the fact alone that the UI is leagues apart sells me to much on Steam vs competitors. Also helps when they allow you to ignore games...You know to not see 100k games you don't care about like I do. Cause all these stores allow way to many trash games on their libraries.
I claim the free games just in case I might want to play it in the future, but I haven't even had epic launcher installed in over a year. I don't play fortnite. Still claim through the browser though.
I got Outer worlds: Spacer's choice edition free from Epic earlier this year actually. It's a pretty decent game and looks good too. Quite a pricey game otherwise.
I like Epic but like you said the UI is pretty bad & it is not as smooth running as Steam is. Also I am surprised that Epic still allow their Unreal Engine games to be on other PC stores like Steam, GOG, etc. By making the publishers agree to only selling their PC games on Epic, will make more customers come to their store. The Unreal Engine is the most used game engine so, these gaming companies really need it to make their games and will be really azz out without it. Epic could really destroy other PC stores with this strategy.
What are you talking about my man! They are totally worth it. They are just not big name or big studio titles so are not generally well known or famous. It doesn't mean they are not worthy. And besides they are free!? This can never be not good 👍😊
It's literally a bunch of free games. I wouldn't mind if it was a bunch of mediocrity being given away each week because it is all FREE. Maybe they should just stop giving free games so that we would stop being so spoiled and learn to appreciate the fact that when there is no cost, about any game is a net gain. In this case, I do not mind the decreasing quality of the given free games because I would not expect breadlines to offer Michelin star restaurant level meals.
Sadly, Humble Bundle is going in the same direction. Giving away pretty much Xbox Game Pass titles. No doubt, the gaming industry is at a low point right now. A lot of companies downsizing for AI replacements and finding out a lot of AI is a lie. Hopefully a lot of these studios will rebound and bring back the humanity. I have a see a ton of games like Palworld that have been AI generated and people falling for them and dumping cash on them. That money is going into some fat cat's pocket and not sustaining a solid dev team. Right now, I think this is why Xbox/PC Game Pass is so appealing to a lot of people. I don't sweat it when a game drops, and it isn't that good. At least I didn't drop $70 on it to find out.
Hello, I love your channel. Thank you for the very valuable information you give us. Do you know the best emulator to play Sega Master System games either on pc ? Thank you !
Not gonna like epic games giving games for free is amazing for 2 reasons. 1 once a month they actully have good games, some games i wanted but never thought it was worht the price. like latley there are 2 games that I really wanted but to expensive for me. Second of all since its free people may give them a chance. If its free games may wanna try it out for a couple of mins and if they like it they may play it for hours. this has happened to me a couple of times.
Haha, I keep claiming free games in EPIC but didn't even install them.. The experience installing from the EPIC launcher is really bad, just can't fight STEAM easy installations..
I refuse to purchase anything on Epic Games Store, their practice of pulling games away from Steam that were already promised to release there was scummy beyond belief. When called out, they doubled-down on social media (including Tim Swenny, the CEO) and kept doing it. So, fuck them, I'll never give them a cent to this day over that.
Huh. Epic UI is Trash? Steam UI by now makes me go take detours the get back to the old ui cause the new one is super uncomfortable for me to use. Give me my filters and not dumb it down for like 5 year olds. I want to be able to find stuff. Also modern Steam-Sales are a friggin Joke. There used to be actually good sales. Now its just mediocre and the real deals lie in the realms of humble or fanatical and such. Probably quite a few "Steam-Purist" probably weren't even around when steam actually was good. And dont get me wrong, i do like me my steam library with my 2k+ games, but the platform feels way inferior to what it was like 10 years ago. I can see the points for improvement for the EGS, but i also see room for improvement in steam. So i'm all for competition for steam.
GTA5 being free literally crashed the Epic Games store. Wish they'd give away more games like that :(
Didn't they give out fallout too?
yea I remember that, and it was probably most people 2nd or 3rd time owning the game lol.
They gave out New Vegas and 3.
lol that's not how capitalism works
Ikr i agree

Game developers need more than Steam as a PC market. Epic or understated. Monopoly is never good.
I agree, but Epic's store and platform are not at all built for socializing, and Steam's store is leagues better at handling game ratings, sales, advertising, and keeping players interested.

I claim all the free games but never play a single one. I will never give Epic a single cent. It’s a scummy move to take games away from Steam gamers.
