I'm glad you enjoyed the map :)
The little exclamation bubble is supposed to be white but there's an obscure bug in Minecraft where GTX graphics cards screw with the shading of semi-transparent 2D textures. Managed a bit of trickery with the webs to get the color fixed on most other textures, but unfortunately those bubbles are still affected.
MrSquishy You're a wizard, Squishy.
If I may ask, what is your background with computers? Do you work in the industry, are you a professional programmer? Did you do a degree to get this good, or are you a self-taught wizard? How much time went into this hourswise? I feel as though learning your secrets will somehow apply to every other aspect of my life.
how the actual hell..
I seriously hope this nets you your dream job, if you don't already have it,
the dedication and skill required for this is absolutely astounding..
your cv from this day on should just have a youtube url to a video of this map and nothing else :p
MrSquishy So when will you make Minecraft in Minecraft?
MrSquishy wit you made it? You are god
2017 - You can play Pokémon Red in Minecraft
2018 - All video games can be played in Minecraft
2019 - Players ascend to a higher plane of being, creating life down to a molecular level in Minecraft
They're testing learning AI in minecraft(because it's cheaper) so we can blame it for the robot uprising :D.
Holy shit, maybe we are in minecraft?
2020: minecraft within minecraft within minecraft....
the rudest of clouds mine-ception?
Random Bread 2027 We have been able to simulate the entire universe in minecraft.
2030 we can creative the entire omniverse in minecraft
2036 the simulations have evolved to create their own simulations in minecraft, we are wondering if we are a simulation ourselves

I once built a hidden entrance to a cave using red stone and a hidden button.
I feel inadequate
I can barely open an iron door with a button
Adam Smith i built a jeb door that untill i saw this i was constantly getting in and out and feeling like a genius
I can’t even do that
I once built a 3x3 piston door by copying MumboJumbo step by step. I feel inadequate too.
Chaz Vangelov your avatar looks like matt
Imagine having a bug in one of those command blocks.
Yeah I was just wondering how finding a bug would be :'D
Not really, he wouldn't need to redo the whole fucking thing, thats dumb
He can search for the command block with the bug, if its even anything dramatic, and what it does wrong can easily provide clues to which block it is and is easily fixable
well the redstoner would bug test it, and upon finding a bug, going to the circuit that activates when you do the things that cuase the bug and either, a: fix it. or b: add a new circuit to account for a previoulsy undesigned for problem
abattlescar they don't run if they have syntax errors
blox rocks Blog it
Essentially, this is one level above placing singular transistors.
if we don't hear from Dan in a couple of days, he's probably trying to make GTA V in Tetris
*Hey Nerd3!*
I would love it if you tried out Pokémon Cobalt and Amethyst. I made it (along with a very skilled team of Minecrafters), taking nearly three years to make! If anyone wants to try it, all details are available on the channel!
Nice map
Oh damn, Phoenix SC! I love your videos and I wasn't expecting you here!
@@alphavecto he did, because the map is absolutely amazing even by today's standards and it's a genuine shame Dan ignored it because of this. This existing wasn't a valid excuse to ignore a fully vanilla Pokémon game.
Anyone remember when Dan built a full TARDIS control room with moving lights and sound effects and guff? Remember how cool that was?
This makes that look a bit shit, dunnit?
Dan, those hoppers are too keep the chunks loaded, so that the command blocks keep working
jaccoajb wait hoppers keep chunks loaded? do they work in MP too?
If you make a chain form the spawn chunks to some place, yes
As a chunk loader from a mod that you put in the world and keep the chunk loaded, it depends,
the hoppers has to be in a loaded chunk, and the hopper has to be and face the ege of the chunk that you want to keep loaded.
otherwise it won't work
if I remember correctly, to load a chunk, you need like a 9 chunks by 9 chunks of redstone that being updated. hopper have the advantage of always updating, but disadvantage of not being able to turn off.
Dan doesn't know what any of that means
Daniel Syck you can turn off hoppers with red stone, all you need is a lever
remember when a working calculator was the huge feat? now there's this....
Ethoslab made a tamagotchi in minecraft without mods or commands
Caleb Ames and?
Tamagotchi*
Jakewake 52 and I find that crazy and since dan seems to like things that seem impossible I thought he might think that was cool as well
I don't know if that is more or less impressive. Etho did his with ought commands and invented his own Redstone but this is absolutely huge.
*ergo
what kind of baby has a rival? KENITH KENITHSON DOES!
Dreamy LPS I was thinking Maggie Simpson but this is the better answer
Max Power haha xP
Dreamy LPS Stewie does
Dreamy LPS is cancer
african american cookiemonster really? we still have douches, even on nerd³'s channel? great times...
I remember when I thought redstone machines were complicated. How does someone even know where to start with this??
I would advise the tutorial series by remember_comics
Well you see, one day he lost his Game Boy, he wouldn't accept that and the rest as they say, is history.
*looks at command block* "is it a decoration thing?". Dan is sooo out of his depth.
*searches block menu for it* me- facepalm
but the bigger question is
WHY IS THE COMAND BLOCK NOT IN THE CRATIVE INVENTORY
atur chomicz and why do you have to do shit in the command block to get the other types?
the other types exist as seperate blocks. they can be obtained by "picking" the block when it has been placed
For creative servers, why have it in the creative menu if you can't use it unless you are OP?
Dan playing... Minecraft?...
*WHAT YEAR IS IT??*
Artur Araújo 2017 2017 WHO WOULD KNOW HE IS PLAYING MINECRAFT NOW
Artur Araújo i am irrelevant to this.
2017... and yes i know it's a rhetorical question
I got to know him from Minecraft tbh, I remember he had a build thingy on Minecraft and I subbed because of that series.
Artur Araújo 2017 duh
PC Master Race. Emulate a game using another game, and then use a microwave to control it, and then use what you used to program the emulated game as a futuristic city fort thing in the sky.
And do that all on a virtual machine within a virtual machine
And then control it using an emoji keyboard
Fun fact. The creator of this map even went so far as to program in the bugs that was in the original game.
In the future this is how consoles will be emulated
Well this is interesting!
Oh and congratulations with the six year anniversary!
Edit: After watching the video... Holy shit this is amazing! How on earth did he do that? I just can't wrap my head around that
He did it with 2^63 Armor Stands.
Project ImProvement they set it up so that command blocks can make web requests and write out the result into item frames. it's all coming from an emulator that somebody else has built
Not quite. It uses scripts to get the games sprites and text strings, but a large portion of it is basically a recode of Red all together.
Are you guys speaking English?
I'm so confused. I haven't seen a single thing of Minecraft since the damn horses where added. Idk what half the blocks in the map are let alone what they do. God my brain hurts!!!!

I know this is late but, Game Theorists Live ordered a pizza on minecraft and it worked.
The development of this was livestreamed the entire time, I watched a large chunk of the development, The thing was a lot of fucking work and it took months.

I'm on a computer, watching a recording from Dan's computer, which is running Minecraft, which is running a map, which runs a computer, which is running Pokémon, in which Red is playing a game on the SNES ... computer...
Inception, anyone?
We need to go deeper
The Minecraft map isn't emulating an entire gameboy, just pokemon red
its like giving a cave man a iphone, i took only 15 minutes before he starts smashing it.
Also, you can actually CALL PEOPLE ON THEIR PHONES AND SHIT through a Minecraft-built phone

That was technically a mod. It's still impressive though.

the part where he flies around the command blocks is like the bit in portal 2 where you're in the tubes going to glados and wheatley is like "oh wow its really big"
So in the 1 year that I spent learning HTML, CSS and javascript + the extra 1 year spent developing a function that not only allows moving elements by their centre points instead of the top left corner as well as the function by default placing elements in the centre of the screen AND making the element/s no longer be affected by differing resolutions...and another function which simply forces an element to move to the same x,y location as another element but allow indenting so you can have an element following another element but still be above of - instead of inside of - the other element that also has optional integrated aforementioned function
*big breath*
someone made fucking pokemon in minecraft.
1. Man now I feel like what I managed to do in 2 years seem small.
2. WHY?! Why do this?!
Dragon - In your defense, He had a predefined goal with a clear stopping point working with essentially a static platform. You on the other hand, likely just had a vague idea of what you wanted, and had to come up with the concept, as well as how to execute it as you went along, and web development is happening in a constantly evolving platform and you have to work with multiple, sometimes incompatible rendering in different browsers and what not.
From my personal experience, it's much harder to create something when you don't have a clear goal, and have to design it as you go along. Replicating something existing, is a bit different from creating something new from abstract ideas in your head.
TL:DR - You both did a lot of work and made some cool things.
What you learned is web development, which is very far removed from more hardware oriented programming. This stuff is pretty self-explanatory even to a hobbyist programmer who's used to writing more traditional hardware oriented programming... Not dissing your web stuff, but web programming has really nothing to do with traditional programming, it's too far abstracted.
Spend 3 months writing C code on a microcontroller and you'll learn a lot more about computers.
there is a series here where after every episode you break a few of the command blocks and just watch chaos unfold
People do this and I'm a useless piece of shit. Why am I even here
For comedy vlogs that those 1,000+ Subscribers subscribed to you for.
Mofiz new content pls
I want to, I swear. I just got so damn lazy after taking a "break"
you got lazy from being lazy? noice
I have no fucking idea how this works, and it is absolutely glorious to me.
Is it weird that I watched the creator's live streams of making it? I even helped design some pixel art in a different mini game of his...
This is very much impressive. I can barely imagine the horrors that debugging that thing would have presented, especially with the code fractured as such between so many different command blocks.
FREAKING BLEW ME AWAY, when i saw the internals...this guy deserves so much respect, its insane! The amount of patience and dedication is out of this world, even universe, SERIOUSLY! THIS IS LITERALLY GAME CHANGING!!
SQUISHY! PLS TELL ME THAT THE LAYOUT IS RANDOM??? PLS
Super - Rocket League I really don't think it is. He's got it organized into subroutines and functions or something to map it out his way. Otherwise there'd be no possible way to fix things. There's probably infinite ways to do it but his is beautiful.
Not random.. He just came up with a memory structure that made sense to him. There's many ways to do that, and they'd all look spectacular since the data is visualized as blocks.
That's mindblowing, absolutely incredible!
And now the cobblestone room I spent a whole night making which regenerated all four walls, the ceiling, and floor, 18 blocks cubed from what I recall (it was a couple blocks shorter of however many blocks two pistons can push) is completely unimpressive.
There's this item called an item frame hat you can display items in. If you put a map in a n item frame it takes up the whole block face and displays the map.
I think that's how they did it.
if you watch the whole vid. thats not how they did it
The Official DonutDood but that would have took more than 2 years
The Official DonutDood dan destroyed the blocks behind the screen and the image stayed also command blocks can't make blocks invisible only entities.
Then would it be possible to spawn the entity of the map on the item frame, and not the item frame itself ?
That would make it invisible, and undestroyable.
an item frame is an enity
What's more impressive is that's not an emulator. He actually recreated the entire game in Minecraft by hand.
Who else wants Dan to do a Nerdcubed completes Pokemon Red: In Minecraft.
Supercheeseboy he will never finish it :D
Overgrowth, Sims and now Minecraft.. have.. have I gone back in time, I don't hear Dan's jet engine of a computer.
Happy 5 year NerdCubed anniversary! Oh, is it 6 now? Sorry, I was... procrastinating
I remember going to a game museum of sorts and Minecraft had it's own section. There I found out some professionally contracted architects used Minecraft to simulate the building plans they had and to see how construction would look when finished (albeit blocky).
From the looks of things, people could potentially use it as the building blocks for general programming.
I mean, imagine the idea that someone created their own original game in Minecraft with this same principle in mind.
Next up, a proper gameboy emulator in minecraft
With every single Gameboy game ever released.
Acid Panda theoretically it is possible, you just need to find a way to convert ROM files into an assortment of blocks that can be read by a command block
No next you should be able to play minecraft within minecraft
I'm sorry to anyone reading this, but here is a full, detailed explanation of how this probably works (I'm also experienced with command blocks).
those large bricks underneath are map data, showing what tiles look like what, what tiles are solid, what tiles spawn Pokemon, etc. the "city" of command blocks are the rest of the processing - the blue is stuff that is constantly running (like control checkers and general math), the orange is stuff that just runs once (like text boxes). the screen works by teleporting invisible entities with custom textures placed on their head, and finally, the book works by running commands that place power blocks in the "city" to run different parts of the map.
I'm glad that you've returned to Minecraft
Ahh, the Dan of old has returned
(At least for now)
what are you talking about? he's older now than he was back then
DeipuDaisky Doo *bdum tsh*
Luke Diggle budum tish crickets
here is a good case of fanboyesim
daniel lovell no, there can't be both. Only crickets or badum tsih
dan reacting to modern minecraft contraptions is the same as grabbing someone from 1900 and showing them a modern phone
Next year someone will make GTA 5 in minecraft with 3 blocks
You could use the WebDisplays mod to do that.
congrats 6 years of fun and ive been flowing for about 4 years of it.
This guy deserves some sort of award for this.
When he took the potion out, he was using a computer in a computer in a computer...
Minecraft needs to be made in Minecraft next.
tl;dw
Dan is mystified by command block wizardry.
And you should be too.
100 years later
Just Cause 3 in Minecraft
Dan: Oooooooooooooooo
1. How do people have the time for this?
2. Couldn't this man be I don't know programming a rocket or making big bucks?
Doctor X
No, this is programming, not advanced physics
True but my point remains couldn't he be doing something better than this.
What could be better than pokemon red?
Doctor X it's like people have hobbies or something they like to do for fun. What about you? You're just watching TH-cam videos
You know me to well. That and reading all the books and watching tv
I don't think I could have asked for a better video for Dan to put out on my birthday, holy hell.
Nerd completes Pokemon red in minecraft?
This brings me back to his Giant Minecraft Buildy Thing, or something like that, years ago. I kinda wondered how many others remember that. Looking back, quite a few stuck around this long. That's awesome to know.
Wait, do all the glitches still work on this version?
Most of them are programmed in except for the ones that require hardware glitches. MissingNo is in for example.
That's too easy of an example. What about 8F ACE glitches?
The mew glitch is not possible due to it only being able to accept 1 input at any given time.
It's rather fitting that Dan is playing Minecraft on the channel's anniversary.
i give my Pokemon human names mostly. is that weird?
A Zubat named Dave sounds hilarious
Switzer I enjoy naming my Pokemon when I'm drunk I ended up with a snorlax called FattyMcgee
Switzer Lots of Daves in caves.
It's not weird, I do that too but for some reason I only do it with female Pokémon whenever I name a male Pokémon I always try to give them a badass name relating to their typing for example I had a Charizard in Pokémon Y and I named him Inferno and I forgot that was also the name of a move so when it said Inferno is trying to learn inferno I was like
"Holy shit! Inferno can use inferno! What the fuck?!"
+Luke Silver I went with Froakie as well I named it Shade because of what I said about names revolving around typing but through some stroke of dumb luck I got a female Froakie without even realizing it.
Thankfully Shade also works as a girl's name.
Trust me Dan, this is possibly even more complicated and god-defyingly mind blowing for someone who understands the principles of command blocks.
You've done a bad... Prepare for the onslaught of 9-12 year old Minecraft fanboys!! BRAACEE!!!
Reinforce the barricades!
Adam English He's done MC videos before
Adam English everybody run!!!!!!!!!!
Batten down the hatches!
LOCK THE DOORS!
Happy Channel Anniversary Dan!!
Someone should program Minecraft in Minecraft. Then they should program Minecraft in that. Etc.
Wow. This channel is 6 years old. I've been here a long long time. Way longer than I should've been.
So SethBling created an Atari emulator that took hours to load a game, this person created an entire game that runs smoothly...
Burkino this isnt an emulator
Watching Dan rediscovering minecraft is the purest thing ever I love it.
BRING BACK BUILDY THINGY
"It's like he's programmed Pokemon with a fucking abacus. It's insane!" Laughing my FUCKING ass off!
How To Easily Get a Rom for Pokemon Red.....
I'm glad that minecraft is not dead on his channel cause he makes one minecraft video every year.
Wait.... why do you have a, rabbit?
SPACE WAFFLES he has many pets
SPACE WAFFLES he has a snake too
SPACE WAFFLES too eat
SPACE WAFFLES too eat
H-have you never heard of the concept of "pets"?
Happy 6 year anniversary Dan, thanks for all the years of laughter!
Is it 2012?? Did the time machine work??
Happy 6 year Anniversary @OfficialNerdCubed
Did the person who made it did all the fucking frames?
He had to map out all of the areas, those were the multi-coloured bits down the bottom, it's sort of like how they would have coded it on the GameBoy's architecture if the memory was extremely hard to manage and the team of at least 100 people or something was 1 person who did it in the time the original game was translated into English.
Matthew Franklin oh my fucking god
Best thing is that he isn't even a developer as a dayjob. He does economic stuff as far as I know.
What this machine seems to be is either banners or maps on invisible armor stands moving about, armor stands have been used a lot in redstone as they are pretty versitle so this is a armor stand based machine most likely
Anyone have the vaguest idea of how it works?
Yep, just invisible armor stands flying about holding custom textures, and command blocks doing some calculations. :p
Jon Long The coloured wool and other blocks are saves and portions of the game. The cmnd blocks interpret those and do specific outcomes.
Ohh, ok thanks :D
The Automatic Creeper (sorry, if i appear slow but...) yeah, that makes not a single bit less confusing.
The Automatic Creeper how do they function as save? And portions of the game. Like, does the comman blocks move around the Wool. And use it as markers for what to do with their code by interpeting the position of the wool?
Happy Channel Creation Anniversary NerdCubed!!!

I distracted myself with something about 10 seconds through the video.
When I started listening again, cubed was talking about how penns eyebrows were the best eyebrows in the world.
Someone made a working phone in Minecraft that can browse the web and call phones in real life.
No, no they didn't.
They did, but it wasn't vanilla, it was a mod.
THIS is vanilla, made only from thousands of in-game commands.
Roverdrive X At least a million.
I don't care if you spend 30 fucking years, you can't mod a working phone that calls real numbers into any game. It doesn't work like that.
Except, yes, they did. It's been around for a little over a year.
It was Verizon's doing, if I remember correctly. CaptainSparklez made a video about it.
The project's been discontinued, unfortunately.
happy 6th bday, channelll
DAN! Bring back minecraft videos, please!
Epic_Papa_Bear Gaming no he grew on from those years
"I wanna destroy it but i feel it would be disrespectful"
2 minutes later
"Smash, smash, smash, smash."
What is sadder? Dan having a geek attack or the fact that I generally understand how this thing works?
chickenman297 would you be kind enough to explain it in a general sense? I have a vague idea of why certain things are the way they are but I'm not 100% certain
+Dylan H
I imagine it works one of 2 ways. Of course I could be wrong about it and I would need to download the thing and analyse it to be certain.
1. The creator has used command blocks to build the bits of a processor and is using the wool and stuff as the ROM.
2. The creator has arranged the command blocks into code snippets from the original pokemon game and the wool is being used to store sprites and terrain tiles.
Is this what you were thinking? I think option 2 is more probable.
chickenman297 option 1 is correct
+Potato The Turnip
If thats the case, then it should be possible to "easily" create other gameboy games using this XD
not really. Sprites would have to be implemented, source code replicated, and tick rates adjusted to the specific game that would have to run smooth enough for it to be playable. Id say the processor emulation was a easy part, and that most of the 2 year production cycle was just making the base game itself
it is done. we must asscend to the next level: playing Minecraft, IN minecraft, while the inner minecraft pokemon.
so i paid attention in math class today and i found out the tiny 3 in after nerds name means cubed..........
MIND
B L O W N
erik fisher are you like 11? We learned about cubed/squared/ to the power of in grade 5.
How the fuck did you not know this already?!
How long have you been living under a rock?
+Rick Sanchez the only guy with common sense here.
It's good to see that pig has turned his life around so much and has gotten into circuits.
"This is totally vanilla minecraft" pretty sure those textures aren't vanilla
Scoldpedia Triggered?
Is that a question, or a burp?
Depends, do you count texture packs as vanila? It could also be maps.
A texture pack is not modded Minecraft
Scoldpedia Texture packs dont count as a mod. It is still vanilla
2011: look mum, I made a little tiny castle that's a whole 2 stories high and it's got little towers where you can press a button that shoots an arrow sometimes!
2017: look mum, I've ascended to a higher plain of human understanding!
Happy Channel Birthday, NerdCubed!!!
i'm not surprised it can be done in minecraft with the command blocks. but i'm astonished someone actually did it.
I love that you still have the same skin after all these years
Happy Aniversary Nerdcubed! Looking forward to many more vids
And I thought some of the weird things people made with redstone were crazy. Command blocks are literally cybermagic, I love it.
happy 6 years Dan I've been here for 4 now
PLOT TWIST Turns out the contraption is actually in the nether, and you're destroying nothing.
"It's like he's programed it with an abacus" That literally killed me.
