ZZ Top's World Wide Texas Tour in 1976 was my very first un-chaperoned concert. Me & my buddy waited outside for hours and when the doors to the Summit (in Houston) opened up, we ran right up front. We were 14 years old, packed like sardines, smoked 2 packs of cigarettes and took a few hits off passing joints. After the show I was so pumped I couldn't sleep that night, with all the memories of the spectacle that was ZZ Top's 1976 show still fresh in my brain. I was changed forever. I even became a musician. I never went professional like ZZ Top, but I'm still heavily influenced by their music to this very day. Now at 58, I'm into writing and recording the The Blues more than ever, all thanks to ZZ Top who's music influenced me and made being a Texan "cool".
@@antonballard2212 oh yes, that was eye opening experience for me at 14. My big brothers had told me about the ladies showing their "stuff" at concerts, but the Summit was a new arena with 2 cameras and 2 big screens. This kid enjoyed the view!
I sold my ticket to this show at the summit to my friends sister because I wanted to go on a surf trip instead that weekend, I caught nice waves but regretted missing that concert to this day, chalk it up to a bad move.
My 2 coolest uncles(not related to each other, never met), were both into ZZ by 1976ish. 1 tried to get me into them about 1979. Until then I was strictly Beatles, AC/DC, and KISS. The 1970s will go down in history as America's greatest peak. Hopefully, we'll always be able to remember the Paradise that was the happiest decade ever , all things considered.
Obviously there actually IS some decent footage from that legendary tour slumbering in some archives out there - why the fffffflippin' bird don't they put it out officially - complete tracks, I mean?!?!?!
October 2nd, 1976 in Hollywood, FL at the Hollywood Sportatoreum...Opening band was Point Blank, also out of Texas...Not shabby at all for my first concert...still the best show I ever saw!
This tour rolled through my hometown summer of '76. July to be exact. This youngster was fortunate to be able to go due to me and my best buddy were just starting to go to concerts tagging along with his older sister. For the show we saw, Blue Oyster Cult was the opener and 'Don't Fear the Reaper' had only been released the month before. I still have my ticket stub.
My 1st concert was this tour at the age of 12 in Charleston, WV, in 1976. I cut grass and delivered papers to buy my ticket. Just saw them last night here in Laredo, was like a time warp. God bless Texas!
Like that moniker, what you know about Hwy.6? Now I'm not gonna bullshit ya, l didn't get to see the Worldwide Texas Tour in my home County of Harris in Texas. It wasn't until '81 when l finally procured tickets to the El Loco show in East Dallas. I was living in the county just north of Dallas then. They played two shows at The Wintergarden-Dec.27th. It was a cold bitch outside and the heat inside was way too high. Billy told 'em to turn it down or off. Security even opened the double doors for relief. There was no opening act, although about two dozen chairs set up on the left side. They were filled with people who were most likely Frank& Dusty's kinfolk and friends. From little toddlers to older folks, say twice the ages of Frank & The Dust. It was a trip seeing that, but ZZTOP never disappoint! That was the first of 6 times seeing them in shows. From El Loco to Recycler. The Eliminator show was San Antone with RATT opening at the old Hemisphere Arena. The last two shows were consecutive years at RodeoHouston. And the only time l got to hear Mexican Blackbird was on the fifth time around. I never left any concerts early, and l've been to a bunch in my nearly 60 years.
Me to and got a kick out of the animals and the stage, thought it was kind of hokie, but this Detroit rocker found new respect for that little old band from Texas..they really kicked ass.
Me too! That was also the night I started my tradition of staying till the lights came on and picking up roaches and half joints. It was a quarter once show.
Got to see ZZ Top on the world Wide Texas Tour waaaay up in New Hampshire, and they brought along The Dictators from NYC as the opening act. Quite a contrast. They had played Boston Garden a day or two earlier with Santana as the opener. Oh well. ZZ was amazing, so I saw them a two more times on the "Eliminator" Tour a few years later. First show had The Red Rocker Sammy Hagar, pre Van Halen, as the opener, and the second show featured Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. Good ol' American Rock and Roll all over the place.
Awesome Alex《☆》[F☆ND☆NGO] put Texas on my map👍🤓I wound up seeing ZZ T☆P in 78 & again in 97 or 98 which I think was their Texas Sands tour or Heads in Mississippi. Both were great memorable concerts. The 2nd one was in Daytona beach during Bike week. Big Biker following🚦I'll always remember the Buzzard on stage from 78 tho🌴:*:🍊Greetings from⛾Florida🤳my friend😎🎱☮🔊✌👍
ZZ opened for Slade in Flint Michigan at the IMA downtown in the beginning. Slade damn near got booed off the stage with Flintoids hollering 'Bring Back ZZ, Bring Back ZZ.'
Saw them at this time in Phoenix, very rowdy crowd, had a seat on the first rise next to a entry ,exit. Watched a bunch of cops beat the hell out of some guy as they dragged him by me. We had troubles then, but it was so much better then it's indescribable . People who weren't there can not begin to imagine. You can't miss what you never knew, like freedom and common sense.
Another addition to the "saw it" posts. Arrowhead Stadium Kansas City. Stage at midfield facing the sideline, not back in the end zone. With Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
@@greglavine4035 LOL. Yeah, that is all it takes.... dumazzz. The sound system has to be spot on, and every venue has different acoustics. To get a viable recording for an album takes a lot of planning, equipment and expert sound recording people. Go back to your Bud Light...
I was at the WW Tx tour in Atlanta, Ga in 1975 or 76. In the old Fulton Co stadium ( where Hank Aaron hit his famous homerun ). Its all gone now...Turner field took its place.
I was there-Marshall Tucker and Elvin Bishop. I’m a little foggy, seems like another band was there, maybe Charlie Daniels. It went on all day and night. If I did that today it would kill me. At one point we took gallons of beer as far up in the stadium as we could go. For the life of me I can’t remember her name. I remember a bunch of us getting on third base and sliding into home plate, you didn’t have seats you could go any where in the stadium. I think we took in about 8 gallons of beer.
Hellyeah! We caught the very end of that tour....w/o all the stage props. Abilene,TX. First ZZ Top concert. They gifted us with a full set from Muddy Waters, playing right before them. Like Billy said,"This ain't gonna be easy following Muddy Waters!". Just saw them w Willie Nelson,2023. Hella drummer...Billy needs to...do something. Stopping,starting...out of key...odd stuff happened

Never forget that show. Seattle Center Coliseum
I was there myself and it was crazy - all the women showing their bo**s and it showed it on the screen - the show blew me away!

Was there at the Summitt down front!
Great concert with all the menagerie on stage!
I don't know what it is but since Dusty passed I can't get enough of this band.
I read that he told Billy and Frank that Elwood should replace him if he "died first"
This show was my 2nd concert, I was 16 and it was awesome! I’ve seen them 3 more times since; in the 80s, 90s, and 00s.
I was here in Houston, when the worldwide Texas tour, performed two shows at The summit, in 1976, on Thanksgiving Day... I was 18 years of age 🎶
It was was a great show! We we were down front!
Nothin but Love for our hometown boys from The Lonestar State!
They took it worldwide!!

I was too young to see them in 1976 but thankfully I saw them in 1980 when they still had THAT sound.

This is from the documentary on Netflix it’s a vary good documentary
That was great when Frank said if he'd play some slow blues the buzzards perked up " is he dead?"

March 3rd, 1977 ZZTOP were the first show at at my home state Portland Maine’s Cumberland County Civic Center.
I was at the Ft. Worth show at the TCCC. I had some good seats, about 7 rows back.
Frank Beard went to HS in Irving. That Lil' Ol' Band from Texas!!!
I saw this tour at Cobo Hall in Detroit.
Me to and got a kick out of the animals and the stage, thought it was kind of hokie, but this Detroit rocker found new respect for that little old band from Texas..they really kicked ass.

I like how Frank keeps checking on his little dog. 😆
I saw it in Detroit! Incredible show!
Rock in peace Dusty 1949-2021😢🙏
I spoke with the trainer - I was 7 - in Louisville - he put one of the birds on my shoulder - that thing was heavy !
1st concert I ever saw, Santana was the back up band, the old Boston Garden! Both bands were smoking! And so was I !
capital center largo md. great show .one of many i saw there..
In 73 I saw them open for Alice Cooper, they just had cowboy hats and flannel shirts on with no flash, just played...
I saw them right around then, too. Straight up Texas Blues Band. Tres Hombres was my first Album purchase. I still think it is their best.
@@AmericasChoice My favorite album too..
@@onazram1 I still have it, it is totally worn out. I had to buy a new one. ha ha
"Audacious", the definition of ZZ Top! Godspeed Dusty, rest easy Amigo.
So cool video!!!

Cheap sunglasses
Heaviest sound to not be considered heavy metal. It's metal to me at this point.
Saw in Columbia s.c....one of best shows ever...Styx opened, just got tommy shaw, on crystal ball tour they were good, great..........
Seen this tour at Anaheim Stadium with Blue Oyster Cult and Johnny and Edgar Winter.. and cal worthington and his dogs spot..lol
ZZ opened for Slade in Flint Michigan at the IMA downtown in the beginning. Slade damn near got booed off the stage with Flintoids hollering 'Bring Back ZZ, Bring Back ZZ.'
I saw the Tejas tour in Louisville, I want to say Rory Gallagher opened that night.

I was at the infamous 3 Rivers Stadium Pittsburgh show of the 76 tour. Total mayhem. People got hurt bad...two died.
“Adios Amigo”😢
Seen them in 1981 in Mobile Alabama with Grand Funk Railroad and
Tommy Two Tone was supposed to be there but they was a no show
"I mean, wow"
Old billy is raising his voice higher because young Billy is in this clip too. They are different people. Since about 83 84 it's been different people
Too bad no live recordings exist from this tour. Maybe the audio was lousy. Love to hear some.
The Worldwide Texas Tour was in 1976 , not '78
Started in 1976, went through 1977, ending on 1st January 1978 in Amarillo
Another addition to the "saw it" posts. Arrowhead Stadium Kansas City. Stage at midfield facing the sideline, not back in the end zone. With Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
Awwwww,I didn't know buzzards lived that long. I knew Parrots could go 80 years.
For such a huge production, why are there no recordings, there is nothing worth listening too bootleg or otherwise...I've been looking for years.
I am guessing they didn't have any $$$ left over for proper recording equipment. It is hugely expensive to record on the road.
@@AmericasChoice yes hook a reel to reel to a sound board..big bucks

Todays music is hollow and shallow.
Ever opened up for Ozzy?
No, Ozzy woulda been opening for ZZ, not the other way 'round.
