I liked Dolby S in the Higher end Home Cassette Stereo Decks for recording...and using Metal Tapes for the best recordings.
I totally wanna hear what the Maggie sounds like! I used to watch a lot of videos like this about 10-12 years ago!

It sounds like the Panasonic microphone has more warmth and presence, particularly when further away from your mouth, but the Electra Crystal mic has decent clarity which would have been perfect for dictation back in its day.
I definitely think that the crystal mic sounded the best, certainly without having to move it away from you like the other one. But then again, it should, since it came with the recorder.
I also think a side by side comparison with all the tape recorders would be interesting. Yes, it will take longer, but I don’t think anyone else has done it, to the best of my knowledge. If you do that, and you get complaints that the video is too long, I’d tell them that you can see in the title card the length of the video before they watch it. Then if they don’t look, it’s entirely their fault.

P.S.- could be worth doing the mic test on the larger R2R as you suggested.
I’m not sure I can say one is better than the other; the crystal mic has clearer sound, the Panasonic has fuller tone. Which is better depends on your intentions.

Panasonic sounds a bit boomy today but it's still the superior mic for a cassette recorder.the electra mic is the perfect match for it's own machine
I think the Panasonic would sound better if the recording level was lowered.

The Crystal definitely sounded better on this one. At least to my ears through all the technology that these things go through. Take care...

an illuminating,electrafying electra mic test there..crystal wins hands up and down,for the ears attached to my head...panasonic was not so supersonic,dare,..afraid i be to say....hey hey,good test.
This is a great little machine. Shame it is not mains operated. Good fun though.

If you really want to make your new intro even cooler, put “this tape will self destruct in 5 seconds” on the tape and then let it blow!!!
Then you can REALLY say your shows start off with a bang!!! 🤣🤣🤣
