Chris Scruggs is excellent too. These 4 brilliant & talented men make the best of one another. I've been playing & performing ( guitar: acoustic & electric, lead vocals & harmonies, blues harp ) nearly all of my life. I'm 100% self-taught. Started playing harmonica & singing when I was only 6 years old. Started singing & playing guitar by age 13. I performed all over east/central Florida for decades in various groups, as well as acoustic duos & solo acoustuic act. I'm now 63 yrs old and I still perform by myself. With all of this being said, I am convinced that Marty Stuart & the Fabulous Superlatives are the tightest & greatest band on earth today, without question........and they pull it all off with a bare minimum of gear. THAT is truly special.

I did not know until recently that, when he was 12 or so, he saw Connie Smith in concert. He thought she was so incredibly beautiful, that he rizzed her up as best he could, despite a 17 year age gap, and told his mom that he would marry her some day. At 39 years old, he did. Between that and playing for both Lester Flatt and Johnny Cash by the time he was 21, you gotta admire Marty's determination to execute on some truly grand visions for his life. Much respect.

Thank you guys! No autographs of course, but their instrument tech let me take some pics of Marty’s mandolin and guitar, also Chris Scrugg’s microphone set up. I was curious about that, because his tone was so gorgeous.

The bassist (Chris Scruggs) is one of the best guitarists you’d ever hear. I’ve even heard Kenny and Marty say that Chris is the best guitarist in the band. Lol. Love these guys and thanks so much for featuring them!

wow, that's Kenny Vaughan! I didn't know he was part of Marty's band. I first heard him backing up Lucinda Williams, and he's a legendary Nashville session musician and a great guitarist. Always liked his spare technique.

I confess I was late to the game with Marty, Kenny, et al. However, a few years ago I chanced upon a local trio, The Cadleys, and one of the songs they played was The Byrds cover of Dylan's "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere."
Between sets I approached John Cadley and asked him how he was able to duplicate the sound of what I had always believed to be a pedal steel guitar. He then graciously showed me the reverse side of his Telecaster and proceded to give me a brief history of Clarence White's B-string Bender. I followed up with my own TH-cam research and am forever grateful!
I haven't seen Marty and the boys live yet but I did catch Pat Metheny this year at a local venue and, musical greatness aside, these two have 3:16 gotta be finalists in the 65-and-older Big Hair Tournament!. 3:16
