Scotty Kilmer what’s your thoughts on a 2008 Chevy cobalt ss I just bought one myself I just wanted to see your opinion on them in your vids , keep up the good work !!!!
My Humvee took a direct hit by an IED on the right side September 2005. It was still drivable. Second direct hit was underneath July 2006 and she had to be scrapped. She did her job well in Iraq. 🇺🇸
@@kozicki4 Wrong. GM went bankrupt in 2009 after the "bailout". Look it up. Same as Chrysler. That vaporized all that taxpayer money lent in. Then instead of the taxpayer keeping ownership of the new entity, the then administration let the unions and the union health fund have most it. What the taxpayer "made money on" was the loans to the new entity after the bankruptcy. The original amount put it was wiped out by the bankruptcy.
You'd have to be willfully ignorant to be gullible enough to buy a "new" car ever. A one year old car will likely be half the price, have less than 20k miles and likely have more features.
@@SharpestBulbs Some of these new features I don't even like anyway. I'm sorry but I want a key to put in the ignition. And I like gauges. I don't feel comfortable with all of the digital crap. Could I at least get a speedometer, tack, temp gauge and voltmeter. I guess most of the sheep today don't know what those things are.
@@SuperUncleRyan Yeah I'm an engineer but I have to agree. While computers are more efficient and better performing, the simplicity of older vehicles is more valuable to me personally. If something breaks I'd rather fix it myself then take it to some shop. 99% of mechanics/techs are detrimental to your vehicle and 100% useless without their scan tool.
We Marines loved our Humvees! We had so much fun with them! I know fellow Veterans who use them for daily drivers. They put a new Duramax with a allison trans and do all the maintenance on them. They are not for the faint of heart. Personally if I got one it would be because of the good memories I had with them while in the Marines.
You will need a $100,000 to replace the engine and transmission and upgrade all the CVS and Brakes and steering components etc then you will have a truck that’s still going to overheat in summer or anytime your pushing it thru the sand dunes. I love these trucks I’ve got one but it’s cost me $300,000 to get it fixed
I used to work on HMMWV's in the Marine Corps and the only reason they break down is because the Marine Corps beats them to death and sometimes other units don't take care of them. The 6.2 and 6.5 diesel engines they use are actually extremely reliable if you maintain them. The HMMWV just needs to be maintained, if not it will end up breaking down just like anything else.
I was laughing at this video for the same reason. I was a mechanic in the Army and we had 22 HMMWV’s in my company back in the early 2000’s and they were all easy to work on, easy to maintain, and very reliable. But hey, he’s gotta habit of bashing others.
@@Andrew_Sherman I don't think he really understands the general utility stuff humvees are mostly used for, and were designed for. Especially when he talks about the global war on terror. It wasn't made for patrols in cities or IEDs. Uparmored humvees genuinely have huge problems
@@superfamilyallosauridae6505 Your assessment is rooted in pure fact! It's a utility truck, and as such, not an APC!....I love my surplus hmmwv! @@Sean2002FU No vehicle maintained in the manner the USMC treats humvees would be reliable. They literally are (and have to be) maintained by people with usually no experience, nominally somebody with like three or more years of experience leading them. Driven literally anywhere. Taken literally anywhere, specifically including literally all temperatures, at sea, in jungles, in deserts, all in a single vehicle's career. Slung under helicopters, driven through the surf off landing craft and LCACs, there is no more abused vehicle. They aren't driving 20 miles to and from work, sipping from gas stations. The odometers just get replaced!! Who knows how many hours or miles are really on it lmao
@Dave Hanson The Tacoma has always been an inferior truck compared to the T100 and Tundra. Real men drive a full size pick up. Girly men drive Tacoma and Rangers.
What a coincidence! this video comes out critizicing Hummer, just days after CrhisFix shares with us his joy having acquired his dream car... A Hummer. What a shame.
jubjub247 that Hummer is far from crap. It’s fully redone with $70,000 plus in upgrades. Way better than an original H1. Ole Scotty is just upset he can’t get one haha.
I don't even know what Scotty likes anymore. He goes back and forth from day to day. Today a brand is the best. The next day you're stupid if you buy it.
I love seeing people like this who really think they know it all... I served in the Army and was eventually assigned to drive an m998 HMMWV for the last few years I was in. I got to take that thing through and over terrain that would eat all but the most built 4x4. Also, I bought one last year and have yet to find anyone with a 4x4 around that can keep up. Everyone has an opinion, but that doesn't mean right or wrong.
I dunno man we destroyed one's fuel line just by driving down the road. Thing had 25k miles on it. Now my military knowledge isn't superb but my car knowledge s. That ain't a lot of miles for anything else lol
While I agree with you about the civilian Hummer, I disagree about it being under armored as a military vehicle. The original military Hummer was designed as replacement for the M1151 Mutt a Vietnam era Jeep which was a follow up (and slightly larger) WWII era Jeep. Neither of these vehicles were armored as originally produced. The under-armored Hummer was the result of the military using the vehicle in roles for which is was not originally intended.
The military hummer was never intended to be an armored personnel carrier. It was designed to be fast, maneuverable and very agile, much like the original jeep. Adding all that protection, defeated everything it was built to do. The civilian versions, we're just glorified four by fours, with a different body.
I get what you’re saying there man, but honestly riding in them for the better half of 5 yrs they were not fast at all or agile lol. Even the ones sent back to the states and broken down to be used on base were slow. Idk man, I watched a humvee windshield take some blasts and hits that makes boots crap their pants. But you’re right, it was meant to be a lot faster than most other vehicles used in the ranks at that time. They had no clue that IEDs would be the main weapon used in Iraq and Afghanistan. Then by the time they got them beefed up, other kinds of transportation was in the works. If I ever go back I hope like heck to get in with a striker unit lol. I’m not trying to test my luck in a humvee no more😂🙌
I used the Humvee for almost anything for operations. Then again, I was in the Marines, and we just make do with what we got, we don't get all the money and fancy equipment that the other branches get. Infantry Rifleman USMC 2006-2011. I got a H1 Hummer. Great off road vehicle.
LMFAO! true dat!.....those run flats can't be traditionally balanced!!! there are several fixes if your putting it on the road. including ditching the run flat doughnut!
Construction Mechanic 3rd class USN Navy Seabees here; I work on these things all the time and its the same constant issues with them: electrical. We have had to replace tie rod boots on them and you have to replace the entire tie rod end just for a blown boot (Dumb design), the batteries are located underneath the passenger seat which isn't a great place for them and we once had a newer guy arc out a battery with the screws that mount the seat to the cover and caught the HMMWV on fire because the covers were never installed or fell off the screws, the windshield washer pumps always go out, switches and gauges constantly break and if you live in a place with a lot of rain these things leak and collect water inside them constantly which leads to corrosion and mildew/musty-ness. The engine bays are so oddly shaped and cramped that getting anything inside them or out of them is a hassle from the front end, but the rear access from inside the cab is a lovely treat for us mechanics, these things also go through sensors like no other as well, the doors never close correctly or are crooked, the windows never open or close easily but the only thing I can say is they always work even if its difficult to operate them. The A/C is also a known problem to go out all the time, gasket replacement is rampant but I will say this; never had to replace or major overhaul an engine yet but the transmissions are ticking time bombs. Something people always forget about military equipment and gear is this; "LOWEST BIDDER"
Many of these pieces of equipment like this were designed by folks ("Engineers" rather than "Mechanics") who never consider that someone is going to have to work on this thing sometimes??? And you'll do this in the Motor Pool....a lot?
Exactly on everything. these things would somehow break sitting in the parking lot of our armory between drills. Last drill it was fine. Next drill the wheels are out of alignment with different torques, the batter dies, starter burns out, just all sorts of weird electrical problems that were supposed to be resolved a month earlier. Out of 8 humvees, 2 were reliable. they were the 2 uparmored ones with badass air conditioners in them. Oddly enough the LMTV and other large trucks worked just fine all the time.
Exactly lowest bidder.. and it was used in the military, driven through rivers, over rocks.. stuff average Toyotas only wish was possible.. also most guys in the military are young and beat up anything they touch... As did anyone 18- 30 ish😎👍
The HMMWV was actually a success. It fulfilled its military life cycle by two. It was never designed to be a attack vehicle. I have one and it works and never failed me. It is very reliable. ALSO HMMWV were made by American General and NOT General Motors.
@mike rusch I got it after the military did a referb. So after their referb they reset the odometer It had 8000miles on the odometer. The vehicle servered in Desert Storm. They left some paperwork in the vehicle when I bought it. Later I found someone in the military who had access to a database and he confirmed it by serial number. I have put 11,000+ miles over the last three years. I bought because I was proud of someone who fought in IRAQ and I thought every time I see and drive it I can think of him. Plus I remember when they were building them for spec for the military and they drove around the world and I wanted one back in the early 80's.
Thank you for stating the difference between the true AM General, & the poser trash versions that General Motors licensed & made. The HMMWV was an upgrade from the military's Willy's-Overland Jeeps of WW2 & Korea, at which the AM General succeeded. As you stated, it was not intended to be a tank.
The original Humvee didn't have a air conditioner, that was added after desert storm. The vehicle was never designed to be armored, it was a replacement for the jeep.
And as a replacement for the Jeep it was designed to fight the Soviets in the cold war. The nice thing about it was that it could be reconfigured into several different version.
@@KENNYBIGBOWMAN Yeah, but it's not DESIGNED to take hits. This is literally just a light transport vehicle, because not everyone in the military can roll around in a bradley or abrams. As stated, it was a replacement for the willys jeep, and in the regard, it did exceptionally well.
Scotty, love your show. Military is know for buying the cheapest vehicle. This saved a company. Toyota a believe. Yes I am biased and yes I live the hummer. However, I did work on these in the military. I know my way around. I have 9k milers of Iraq driving. In a M1026. Hummers, can get it done. As long as you keep up with maintenance. If you don’t like maintenance don’t purchase a hummer. National Geographic did a special on the worlds most dangerous road. Highway 8. You can TH-cam it. I drove hwy 8 everyday. Hummers, are externally capable. Would I want to daily it. No. However, would I take it in to combat. I survived. Thanks for all your time given to us by your Scotty. Time and knowledge is the best thing you can give someone. Have a great day.
Our battalion just moved all our humvees to some faraway motorpool in order to receive shipment of the JLTVs. Also, if people actually watched ChrisFIx's video on his Hummer, it incomparable to the milspec ones. Too much custom work. Scotty is simply talking about the base vehicle itself.
Scotty is simply talking about fiction. You might need a HD jack and jack stands, but that is the case for any real 4x4 truck. Everything on the HMMWV can be worked on with common hand tools, including installing and removing all that up armor that was never part of the original design specifications. Unless you think a simple spanner to loosen and tighten cannon plugs is "Heavy Duty Equipment." The HMMWVs that we are replacing are up to 34 years old, and they were designed to replace all the other light trucks the military used for support.
That JLTV is going to be a death trap if we ever get into a ground war with a real power. Being up high makes it a nice target for every RPG and canon around.
Well well well... Scotty, Nothing in this video about Hummer that ChriFix has not told us yet... He bought his dream car and he is happy and i am happy for him. He knows about cars and i trust he made a good buy...
jubjub247 but it’s a dream vehicle not a vehicle you don’t care about but yeah it’s ok for you to cheap out it’s just helps the environment by saving gas and money but I see where your coming from you ain’t a car guy and that’s perfectly fine but a dream vehicle is a dream vehicle period, it’s like saying would you like to go in a private jet and then land in paradise for the rest of your life that’s the feeling I had when I I’ll get my dream car it only cost less then 10 grand and that would be the 2001 Ford F-150 Super-Crew but only bad thing is mpg but with a tune It can get 24mpg which the will only cost $400-$1000 and that’s worth it, I’m saving money and environment and it’s reliable too so for my dream car I only have to pay 7-8 grand. The repair and gas can be reduced with a ecu tune and replaced with higher quality parts which will eventually pay off
@jubjub247 He makes enough money off Youtbe, merch, etc, so now he has play money to spend on fun cars. And he knows more than your average guy on maintenance and repairs, so he can cut some of the costs down. Gas and big repairs might be the worst part but its not his only car so he will be fine.
Papi Uuhmelmehahay As did I and I call bullsh$&. (OIF II-III, IX). It was a POS. Too bad that you didn't stay in long enough to see MRAPs and the protection that they provided against both small arms and IEDs. It's like comparing a Pinto to an F150. Sure, the Pinto is a cool little niche oddity that can get you from Point A to B, but wouldn't it be safer to just get something that didn't leave all of your passengers with leg amputations and blown out ear drums? 😉
@@nihilistjohn2551 Since youre such a real smart military dude, you know the pentagon thought theyd save some money by uparmoring the humvee fleet instead of using a vehicle designed for the job, right?
Yeah you lived in it but didn't fix it or pay the maintenance right, the only good part is plenty of room to sleep... Might as well nap it while you wait for a tow 😂
Hey Scotty, I like your videos and I will admit that I don't know nearly as much about cars as you, but I don't think it's fair to call the Hummer a failure. It was made built with a conventional war against a near-peer enemy in mind, not the war on terror. Those are two very different things.
@RPT Enterprise I had a 1993 Toyota Corolla car that was so problematic and garbage you wouldn't believe it. Garbage electrical system and sensors that failed one after another, horrible gas mileage, trunk and cab leaked Everytime it rained, relays burned out constantly, and the list goes on and on. After that I swore off of Toyota vehicles permanently.
Hummer: Commercial failure- YES. Military failure- HELL NO! Scotty, you're full of it there! For it's time, the Hummer was revolutionary. Remember, it was replacing Jeeps and Mutts. Not armored cars and light tanks. The roles it was later called to be used in were NOT it's designed original purpose! Remember: Soldiers weren't always armored either! They didn't have to go fast; they only had to go as fast as a Bradley or M1, and were plenty fast and agile off-road as a scout vehicle or recon. Those engines were crap; agreed. And since when has the military EVER cared about gas mileage? EVER?!!? That's never been the point. If the new vehicles; heavy as they are, the get the 20-30mpg you seem to be suggesting a heavily armored military vehicle should get, I'll eat my hat. Stick with passenger cars. It's what you know. Stay in your wheelhouse. You just sound ridiculous when you step outside of areas you know nothing about....
I actually agree with Scotty on this one. We would do a PMCS on them on Mondays and you could fix every little leak etc. Come next Monday there would always be a puddle of something underneath it. Something would always need replaced. Replacing starter was always such a joy too...
The H1 Humvee didn't fail militarily. It was used through the 80s till present. They were being replaced in Afghanistan and Iraq because of the IED threat, which Humvees were never designed to handle. The Oshkosh JLTV and similar vehicles were designed from the ground up to protect against IEDs.
You are so right....the hummer was a good vehicle.......the military tried to task it with too many things it wasn’t built to do...it wasn’t a do all be all vehicle.
Hey Scotty I definitely appreciate your videos man, however this is the first one I disagree with. I served in the Army from 2013 to 2017as an infantryman. Both times I was deployed, that old humvee saved my brother lives and mine. You see in Iraq they noticed that IEDs were the main weapons used there. Cheap and easy to make yet deadly enough to take out an entire unit. After Iraq the realized that adding sort of a v shaped bottom would allow the blast to dissipate to the sides rather than straight up at the passengers which normally resulted in an overturned and demolished humvee. The v bottom helped a lot but still wasn’t exactly what we needed. The armor wasn’t exactly bad when faced with small arms fire (which happened a lot)!!! I was sitting in the front passenger in a convoy when we came under attack one time, I watched three rounds most likely 7.62 rounds hit the window in front of me. Had that window not held up and did it’s job I wouldn’t be here today. Another example was that we were pulling an rnr not far from the Kendal valley ( I think I said that right). We crane up the mountain and around a few turns when everything went black. From what I remember I felt a huge jolt like being hit by a semi or something, debris and dirt flew up and basically made everything black. I remember a second jolt just the same as the first( that was the humvee dropping back down). After everything was said and done that blown up humvee made it back to op. Assessment of the damage later showed that we took the blast to the front drivers side. The only thing the driver suffered from was a concussion, a sprained arm, and a few scrapes. Don’t get me wrong it took some fixing before we got her started and made it back to op, but she made it nonetheless. Those humvees may seem like crap to a lot of people.... but to us that served, it made sure we got home to our families. They are honestly pretty tough now. Back in the early 2000s they were completely crap. Little to no armor on some. But they adapted it to what we needed. To this day I give my word on only 3 brands I used over there. Kabar, humvee (yes gm), and bushmaster. I’ll buy a humvee hands down any day over most newer work vehicles. But I have to say, if I ever went back the last thing I want to ride in again is a humvee. Strikers is where it’s at. But that’s just my experience on the humvees, a lot more happened but I’m tired of talking about it. Thanks again for the videos man!!!
You're lucky to get the armored version, my first two deployments, (2002, Afghanistan, 2003, Iraq) we had no protection at all. Just the regular Hummer. Canvas doors, fiber glass hood, aluminium body, regular glass. It was sandbags on the floor and flak vest plates in the door for something, that's it.But he is right about them being a pain to work on, poorly designed for basic maintenance and even worse for anything beyond.
I am nine years old and my dad is a 62 year old veteran from the army and he was also un pleasured about this video I told him about it so he agreed with whatever you say and I did too because I want to be in the military when I grow up and thanks to you that you helped us and the hummers are not bad I want I grow up
Even the unarmored hmnwvs were decent. They were just designed without armor because they were designed as more of a logistics vehicle than a fighting vehicle, ie transporting troops and weapons that would dismount for combat vice taking fire and returning fire while in the vehicle
I know someone who served in the middle east and he told me that hummers left behind are falling to pieces or scrapped while the many Toyota landcruiser and hilux pickups in the same area run like new, most of which are older than those hum v pieces of junk !! I also owned a Toyota Landcruiser 80 series for 18 years when I lived in the extreme arctic and it never ever let me down ! I hear it's running to this day with minimal maintanance and 500k miles + on the odometer !! Indestructible is not an overstatement !!!
I got one of the first Hummer Ambulances at Fort Hood way back in 1985-86. I was told it was super stable and could not roll over. One of my Sergeant's took it out with one of our soldiers and they drove on several tank trails with no problems. On the way back, they went off of a tank trail slightly and the incline was enough that it rolled down the hill and ended up wheels up. They were not hurt and an MP came by with a Jeep and used it to pull the Hummer back onto the wheels. When they got back, our Battalion Commander went crazy over the crushed top since it was brand new. I went back to driving around in my Jeep. True story. Good times.
Real men don’t go around bad mouthing people’s dream cars just to be a jerk. I agreed with every bit of the video concerning the actual Hummer. The closing remarks shows you got a beef smh. Guess the older you get the less tact you have?
Man I liked our hmmwv when I was stationed in Germany 2002 thing drove decent on Autobahn. Did get bad gas mileage and was a chore to work on. Brought it to Baghdad with us and did great, only issue we had was generator went out.
@@christianman5093 "Some ppl just want money and attention" Congratulations you just summed up the purpose of TH-cam. Even this channel revolves around money and attention. Are you ok?
One thing Scotty doesn’t mention, is that a lot of GM vehicles, especially the older they are, are fairly easy to work on, and they used a lot of universal parts for many many years, especially in their truck lines.
Also : you can't blame GM entirely for the design. The military spec'd it in their classic fashion: to be all possible things to all possible users inn all possible environments 30+ years is hardly a failure. Wasn't there some "Gen 2" jeep that preceded the hummer? That only lasted ~10 years -- that was a real failure.
They were a source of pain for troops in the gulf. The fiasco behind their lack of armor and their unreliability issues plagued troops causing them to be stranded and they regularly abandoned them. Also, the vehicle pit mechanics were busy just dealing with problems caused by sand.
Even if it did fail, the Army wouldn't be able to get rid of them and let everyone know they made a bad decision. God forbid, our mil planners admit they made a mistake due to poor planning or lack of foresight. The jeep had problems due to the four-wheel independent suspension but they kept killing GI's until they replaced it with another poorly designed vehicle. If the jeep was operated properly it didn't flip over but when you have a bunch of teen-agers operating a go-anywhere vehicle are they going to pay attention to the limitations?
Scotty I was a solider in the early seventies and we drove jeeps. They had no armor, heat, air, doors, seat belts, glove box, radio, and no automatic transmission. But they were strong. They were narrow, high off the ground and simple to operate. Four wheel drive, four speed and four cylinders. If needed a machine gun, canvas top, and a field radio could be mounted. It could even pull a trailer. I was 18 when I learned to drive one.
The Hum Vee was the Jeep's replacement. You don't weigh down recon vehicles with a lot of armor, and you don't use recon vehicles to patrol areas in the midst of an all out active insurgency.
Scotty will probably call it a "huge money pit, just look at how much the original owner spent on top of the original price just to get a decent car", and something about getting a Toyota 4Runnder/Landcruiser. I think Chrisfix's Hummer is amazing myself, but he probably paid a king's ransom for it.
Well, General Motors lost money on Hummer vehicles for the civilian market, but they had nothing to do with the military. The military HMMWV, which is why they're called humvees, was made by AM General, which was spun off from American Motors once Renault secured a controlling stake in the company, since the United States Department of Defense could not legally deal with contractors held by a foreign government (the French Government, which had partial ownership of Renault).
I was a marine during desert storm. I had a bummer and a 5ton worked as a scout sniper for a 3 star general. homer was better than old willow, jeep. camp lejeune still had 3 jeeps and oddly enough. and old gamma goat
I've heard that people who served hated these. You gotta understand just because something is standard issue doesn't mean it's the best tool for the job.
Yep and even APCs have limits in urban areas, everything does. I hated the MaxProPlus though. At least 1151s wouldn't tip over at a glance, electrocute the gunner from being 18 feet high and snagging a power line, or not be able to navigate alleys and fall in ANY possible sink hole. Haven't heard anything bad about the MATVs, but I got cynical after finding out from a friend about operating the Stryker and how faulty they get. Will say, international made a reliable truck in the MRAP, but a terrible tactical vehicle. I deployed twice with 2BCT, the 1151s (1115s/16s in 2006)we had were decent, little quirky, but alright, nothing major(A/C was crap), yeah that battery placement is the worst, but maintenance was never too bad (yes we worked with our mechanics, it was our vic).....the old forsaken ones left back in Germany OTOH....well, you neglect and treat anything like garbage long enough, it becomes garbage. I suppose it's all relative since I remember what services for the M1A1 involved especially after TUSK upgrades. I suppose the most hate I could give the HMMWV would be: 998s are gutless without turbo, getting into a front end collision might take my legs off and put the steering wheel in my throat, battery and brace was designed by an Ork, transfer cases were always waiting to do something weird, cramped inside( but Hummers are even stupider) it has a hundred simple parts( seatbelt, handles, latches, spare tire mount, soft doors, etc) that simply never work in a simple way. But they were about as much a failure as the Chevy K-5 if IT'S military version was turned into a gun platform. Key term: Light Utility Truck.
Scotty: "Well ya see, if the military was smart, they'd have not bought the hummer, it's just garbage. The 1994 toyota celica would have been way better for the army."
Hey whats the young chump going to teach the older wise man? How to wear skinny jeans and pick up dumb high school girls in crap used luxury money pit cars!? Fix sucks, just because he has twice the subs don't meam anything, there's more McDonald's than any restaurant... Don't mean it's good healthy food.
I work on military vehicles for a living as a federal technician, i would definitely disagree with this video, the biggest issue that they have, is the amount of time they sit without useage so seals and bushings rot. They've come a long waysbsimce the OG humvee was released, a large number of them are being sent in for ABS upgrades in 2022 as well. Not the most explosion resistant, but that wasnt what they were built for. Just my opinion!
I always shake my head when I see a Hummer on the road. Such a waste of gasoline and an expensive vehicle too. Surprisingly I did like the one ChrixFix bought; that one seemed cool. A bit better gas mileage and the mods fixed some of the issues they have.
@@niko2002 True, I was not expecting to like the video much when I saw the thumbnail; it definitely showed that with the cash, right mechanic, or just maybe the time and know how, you can vastly improve on the deficiencies of a car.

@@drury2d8 it wasn't designed for use in the golf it was specifically designed for use in Europe and Asia
The military hummer was never intended to be an armored personnel carrier. It was designed to be fast, maneuverable and very agile, much like the original jeep. Adding all that protection, defeated everything it was built to do.
The civilian versions, we're just glorified four by fours, with a different body.

@Jeff C the H1 was somewhat similar, 2 and 3 were GM parts bin specials.
H1 is a true hummer. H2 and h3 are just pickup trucks/suv with no where near the off road capabilities of the H1
Wtf are you talking about fast and agile they were never like that. Just torquey for the terrain.
I get what you’re saying there man, but honestly riding in them for the better half of 5 yrs they were not fast at all or agile lol. Even the ones sent back to the states and broken down to be used on base were slow. Idk man, I watched a humvee windshield take some blasts and hits that makes boots crap their pants. But you’re right, it was meant to be a lot faster than most other vehicles used in the ranks at that time. They had no clue that IEDs would be the main weapon used in Iraq and Afghanistan. Then by the time they got them beefed up, other kinds of transportation was in the works. If I ever go back I hope like heck to get in with a striker unit lol. Construction Mechanic 3rd class USN Navy Seabees here;
I work on these things all the time and its the same constant issues with them: electrical.
Something people always forget about military equipment and gear is this; "LOWEST BIDDER"
biggest kickback too
Many of these pieces of equipment like this were designed by folks ("Engineers" rather than "Mechanics") who never consider that someone is going to have to work on this thing sometimes???

As someone who owned 3 H1’s in the past, I found a lot of the info in this video to be about as accurate as CNN.

Unless you think a simple spanner to loosen and tighten cannon plugs is "Heavy Duty Equipment."
The HMMWVs that we are replacing are up to 34 years old, and they were designed to replace all the other light trucks the military used for support.
That JLTV is going to be a death trap if we ever get into a ground war with a real power. Being up high makes it a nice target for every RPG and canon around.

The repair and gas can be reduced with a ecu tune and replaced with higher quality parts which will eventually pay off

Um... M-1 tankers get injured and killed as well. What was the Humvee replacing?
...nuff said.
I am nine years old and my dad is a 62 year old veteran from the army and he was also un pleasured about this video I told him about it so he agreed with whatever you say and I did too because I want to be in the military when I grow up and thanks to you that you helped us and the hummers are not bad I want I grow up
I never served, however I own one now as my daily work truck and it is great!
Even the unarmored hmnwvs were decent. They were just designed without armor because they were designed as more of a logistics vehicle than a fighting vehicle, ie transporting troops and weapons that would dismount for combat vice taking fire and returning fire while in the vehicle

True story. Good times.

That hummer had a ton of mods before buying it. Also, it was a childhood fantasy of his.
I'm glad it's 'NOT' Monday:. I was afraid of hearing: I'm giving away a free Hummer!
Hummer didn’t fail militarily. They have been in service since 1983. Long in the tooth yes, but not a failure
Why did Toyota stop making the 90s celica??? Must of been junk and a failure or why stop making them???
Also : you can't blame GM entirely for the design. The military spec'd it in their classic fashion: to be all possible things to all possible users inn all possible environments 30+ years is hardly a failure.
Wasn't there some "Gen 2" jeep that preceded the hummer? That only lasted ~10 years -- that was a real failure.
They were a source of pain for troops in the gulf. The fiasco behind their lack of armor and their unreliability issues plagued troops causing them to be stranded and they regularly abandoned them. Also, the vehicle pit mechanics were busy just dealing with problems caused by sand.
say that to the guys who got seriously injured or killed inside them because of weak armor, they tend to disagree.

Unfortunately, the military was using the Hummer in roles that were meant for an APC. It was definitely not made for urban combat.
