I agree. Black people are too reliant on the whites or others to help or include us. Blacks need to wake up and start investing into black communities. The black men are neglecting black women and black women are disrespectful towards black men. Black men aren't leading the community and black people as a whole aren't evolving. We need to stop this and start helping our own communities like the others do.

This is why I'm transitioning all of my makeup over to black owned beauty brands. Most of the items I have so far are from mented, Juvia's place, the lip bar coloured Raine, Plain Jane beauty, AJ crimson and I'm excited to try more I'm not spending my money with anyone who doesn't consider me their primary focus. So to all the Mac, urban decay& whoever else... lma head out.

There are so many other Black women influencers out there that have made an impact, why just select one because she has the most followers? I’m glad she wasn’t included, we get to see innovators like Melissa Butler shine in the spotlight for a minute. Support Black owned brands! Beauty Bakerie, Coloured Raine, The Lip Bar, Pat McGrath Labs, Uoma Beauty, Juvia’s Place, Mented Cosmetics all make great makeup! Fenty is wonderful I just don’t think RiRi owns it so that’s why I didn’t include it.

Rihanna's stake is a closely guarded secret but she doesn't sit on the Board and is certainly not the CEO. However sales neared £600million in the previous financial year so we're talking half a billion in sales at least. THAT is the power of the Black Dollar/Pound and it's gone into the pockets of white shareholders. She's the face to get WOC away from the Kardashian domination of late. They've never created shades for us on the past because they didn't want this to seep into the consciousness of WOC but they're making too much money to care right now. People need to do their research and stop reading into society's rhetoric designed to diminish our power.

I may be wrong, but there was always makeup for black women. What happen to Avon, Black Opal, Marykay, IMAN and the drug stores brands. Now the issue we have is with the big brands MAC, NARS and so on, BLACK PEOPLE RATHER BUY THOSE BRANDS, that didn't have shades for us.I may be wrong @BETnetworks. Kaay Jones black people go against their own interest. They didn’t support black opal, iman, fashion fair, and all those brands. They ran to MAC to support them.
They've left us out purely due to jealousy...they have to constantly prop their women up. If you tell a lie long enough it becomes the truth to some ppl. We as black women tend to have fuller lips, we age gracefully and slowly, the sun also doesn't burn us with permanent discoloration...etc. We're so naturally beautiful that adding a little blush or highlighter completely eliminates them off the face of the beauty game. This is why I'm for black beauty brands...we have to create our own and purchase our own. I'm personally not looking to be included or accepted by anyone, especially not them.

The hateful looks I get from white women when I step into a building, a clothing store, restaurant, exclusive club, etc... my beauty and presence aggravates them and they start to get a little aggressive because they feel insecure around me. Their men, husbands, boyfriends and whatever, stares at me, smiles, flirt with me in front of them, hold the door for me, pull out my chair..... it’s quite interesting.

I am so honoured and I love this topic. 👏🏾 We as black women, we do tend to spend more on makeup because we need to “figure out” what will work for us or try to mix shades of foundation, concealer, powder together to get our shade or something close to it. Even though there is still a lot of work to be done, I do believe a shift is happening right now and I hope it continues to do so. It is time brands focus on catering to all rather than competing. It is time they bring out different shades of brown and not just light brown, brown, and “dark”. They need to consider our undertones and shades of melanin. It is time they also remember those who are not based in American, those who aren’t African American but also, British African, African Australian etc. cover all BLACK PEOPLE. All MELANIN!. I remember watching the lip bar get ripped apart on shark tank and look at them now. Every time I see that brand and how far they ve come and they didn’t give up Am sooo sooooo happy for them. Keep wining and don’t give up.
I gave up on make up all together. Lip gloss, mascara, maybe a BB cream if...IF the formula doesn't make me look like a dust bunny. Way too much trial and error... don't have the coint. Big ups to Fenty and the other women of color brands and praise the women of color that do beauty/make up reviews 🙏🏽🙌🏽

For years we have always tried to be like our European counterpart not just in makeup but also hair and I believe we have suffered greatly for it. Emotionally and financially.

Actually a lot of people don’t know that we were always excluded from that industry because make up actually came from the film industry and most of the actors in the film industry white from the start of the film industry which was the late 1800s all the way up to the late 90s we were excluded but what people don’t really know his make up came from us the first recorded or first found box of make up was found in Egypt in a tomb
I completely understand the frustration in not seeing relatable examples of beauty in the media. I am fair skinned but have dark hair, growing up in Eastern Europe I remember every single story we read as children the female protagonist was the most beautiful and that always included her being blonde. To me that was extremely infuriating, the only dark haired character was snow white, but she had impossibly pale skin- I was neither here nor there. I feel very hopeful seeing more and more representation for the ladies of colour and high quality brands founded by them. The most important thing is to have variety, beauty comes in many different forms and as long as we don't try to create one image to uphold we can all feel more comfortable in our skins.
Wow I loved the points that were made in this video. This definitely has been talked about for years now but the recent shifts are not a coincidence. It’s great to see inclusivity but the end almost made me want to cry! Because it’s so true how inclusivity could possibly be a trend in makeup and not a solid change in the right direction. And how sad is that? What does that communicate to people who are just as valuable and beautiful?!! I’m so glad I watched this. I will be sharing everywhere I can. We must be the change we want to see! And I’m so happy and here to support every WOC who wants to put out her own products to cater to a demographic that is too often intentional pushed to the side. Loved this! I started a lipstick line in 2016 for women of color because I’m a lipstick addict and it was so hard finding the colors I needed. I officially launched last year Lolly Lips By Kyanna. It has been amazing to see the progression of cosmetics for black women over the last few years.
💜💜💜 I'm so glad these Queens are coming out with their own lines. I never bought into the lies that their standard of beauty was the only one. I'm 51 & still don't wear makeup. Theirs was to light. Fashion Fair was to dark. It would start itching, make my eyes water, break me out. Thank you for this information, I might actually go & look at some products.

I'm liking this series! This is why I love brands like Fenty Beauty that change the narrative in the makeup industry. Many brands that did not have my shade now have my shade in foundation. Brands are starting to wake up finally. I just wish by black cosmetic brands are supported the same as the more well known ones. More black owned brands need to be on the shelf. It's making progress but it still needs a little more work. Jackie Aina has done such a great job at voicing these issues and working with brands to create better shades. Because of her I found my shade in Sephora. I hope that I can be a help to the beauty community with my TH-cam channel as well.
I wear only Mascara & Eyeliner...I'm focused on skincare rather than make-up...I don't have to worry about the rain,or trying on clothes at the store...lol
Revlon ColorStay Foundation was one of the first drugstore brands that tried to be inclusive with shade and skin types for me. As frugal as I am, lack of shade options is why I don’t get creative and try new items.
I enjoyed this! Even more, I love how we are moving out of the space of asking to be included, and instead creating our own space. We are recognizing our beauty, our worth, and our power. I love it 💛
At 750 very valid point . As someone that has worked behind the scenes in the beauty industry, it’s fact that people in the board room , PD , concept , marketing etc don’t look like us. Even when we ( women of color) do apply for roles as such , it’s incredibly hard to obtain these roles and the interview questions that are asked...don’t get me started. Many brands are stuck on pet projects and the same brand norms. Making it impossible and all ideas dismissed for diversity expansion. On experience I will never forget is when I worked at one of the larger beauty companies and I was sitting at my desk. When Product development visited my area to test shade colors on my co workers ( all being lighter complexion.) both wore significantly less makeup then me. I was the only one that wasn’t tested for shade matching. I asked PD where is the makeup for me. The express on their faces made them as uncomfortable as I was, not having my shade or evening trying to include me in the conversation of helping my two co workers find their shade.

Fenty definitely changed the game. I'm the girl at 5:10 and I love the palette I'm holding because I could create literally any color. I don't feel like we need to beg brands to include us, we just need to support the ones that already do 🤷🏾♀️
I love makeup, but sometimes I'm afraid of it, lol.. I have eczema and very oily skin.. Everything slides off of my round face!!! Contouring is the worst, I have a original MJ nose, lol.. It's hard for me, to feel comfortable with makeup!!!!

I am big on natural/ organic makeup and I have the most difficult time finding the right shades as well. So the process of the making and not wanting harmful chemicals has been extremely important to me.

Not sure if this is true for all black women, my foundation color changes throughout the year. I might have a perfect shade for summer but in the winter I have to find a new shade. I have red undertones in my complexion which makes it hard to find my color.
I just purchased for the first time from Colored Raine, and OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH HUNNY, I was BLOWN AWAY by the color saturation and creaminess of everything!!!!!
Meanwhile I’m over here working as a model for a new makeup technology where you can virtual match your share just by taking a selfie. We have come along way but can we all appreciate the progress we’ve made thus far
It's also a huge problem with careers in the beauty industry. I'm a Account Executive in FL for a cosmetics line and I'm pretty positive its only 2 Account Executives for a cosmetics line in Florida. All the Regionals are white or Hispanic, the Directors the VP's etc.... We have no presence on a corporate level especially sales executives this is a huge problem. I can assure you most of the women are either racist or have no interest in the black community. I have horror stories I've been through a lot in this industry. Pay attention ULTA and Sephora hardly have any black women in management it's crazy! This is on purpose and we need to speak up about this.
Black women and black skin is so sensational, I am so happy that we have brands like Fenty beauty that have absolutely revolutionised this industry and shown that there is a greater need for diversity in the beauty industry. MAC, Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder have also been amazing throughout the years, I am so glad that we have so many powerful voices talking about this.
Looks like beauty industry always operates in a paradox way. In my country most females are pale yet we have an abundance of cosmetics for females with dark complexion and very few cosmetics that would go well with pale complexion. Same with sensitive skin issue common in here whereas what we have on offer is mostly for oily or combination skin, not for very common in here dry and sensitive skin. So I would say it's the huge global offer versus local demand mismatch in many countries. So maybe the best solution is local production by females who know best what local needs are?
We all have the RIGHT to BE and PRESENT to the world our own unique "ME", and That is an AWESOME thing! But I see something that is "WAY MORE", AMAZING. The BROWN WOMEN are just simply BEAUTIFUL without ANY cover -up. We were BLESSED to be born with, 1. Rich skin tones ranging from the lightest Buttery Tans, to the deepest, Coffee/Chocolate Browns. 2. We have natural Lushious Lips, 3. We DO NOT wrinkle, as others do. 4.We have GREAT Bone Structure. 5. Our CROWNS, (hair) range from Soft Tight Coils to Silky, Losse, Waves, etc. We have adopted and have been Heavily INFLUENCED in our definition of What OUR, Beauty SHOULD look like. WE'VE Allowed, another people to tell US how U.N. -acceptable our True Beauty is to them, and have told us, "THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD define beauty. They (others) in turn, through the CONTROL of the market, then profit from services, and products that gives them the enhanced look of what WE ALREADY HAVE. They plump their lips, lay in the sun/tanning beds, use facial contouring, perm their hair, and the list goes on. In conclusion - To MY BEAUTIFUL, BROWN SISTERS, "They have proven what I say to be TRUTH. So LETS BOLDLY ROCK OUR GORGEOUS howEVER you ROCK IT. But KNOW - WE DON'T need to spend HUNDREDS of DOLLARS to have what We have NATURALLY❤❤❤MUCH LOVE SISTERS

I so appreciate this video expressing the thoughts of so many so clearly! Because even as drugstore brands are dropping Foundation shades darker than I have ever seen, when you get to CVS & Walgreens, they might not have them. And Walgreens is the drugstore I use, so I should not speak on CVS. Walgreens has not been having the new darker shades or even medium dark shades from drugstore brands that have extended their shade range. Maybe it’s just in my city, but it’s frustrating as heck.
I had to go for a minute, but I want to say, that I was born in 1963 and remember clearly when makeup for deep/dark skin tones was almost nonexistent, and to see a time come when we have Fenty, Juvias Place, Crayon Uoma, is such a good feeling. And what I really Love is these brands aren’t excluding anyone, they have shades across the range and they take the same care in getting undertones right across the board. And I like a lot of brands, but I am loyal to these brands that didn’t believe the hype. You know, the hype that products specifically for deep/dark skin tones don’t sell. Actually this is why all these brands are jumping on the bandwagon! They saw Fenty pull into the train station and leave them behind. They didn’t just suddenly decide they should cater to everyone, no, they saw all that money going to a new brand when they have been doing this forever but weren’t inclined to address this issue. Anyway, I’m putting this on my Facebook page for my family and friends. Excellent piece.
I spend probably $40 every 2 months on foundation...that's it. Maybe 2 or 3 lipsticks per year. I am not a glamazon...I have very nice skin and I try not to cover that up. Y'all spending too much😣👎🏾🤨. We don't need all that.

As a mixed Asian woman with brownish wheat skin I used to love every Maybelline brand make up as a teenager. But as times goes by they have change every product to make it whitening or brightening after use. And it's sad cos I don't need to whiten or brighten my skin. Just need a natural skin tone foundation that's all. And some colors for my skin to make it pretty. I end up loving fenty by Rihanna products as it really bring out the best of my skin color. I'm sticking by fenty for the foundation sick. More than 30 colours OMG!!!! Love it
When I do wear makeup I'll probably have $40 worth of makeup on my face...😂😂 Drugstore to the house!! $10 Foundation $7 lipstick.....😂 drugstore Brands like Maybelline and Covergirl has came a long way when it comes to makeup for black women..

Rihanna's stake is a closely guarded secret but she doesn't sit on the Board and is certainly not the CEO. However sales neared £600million in the previous financial year so we're talking half a billion in sales at least. THAT is the power of the Black Dollar/Pound and it's gone into the pockets of white shareholders. She's the face to get WOC away from the Kardashian domination of late. They've never created shades for us on the past because they didn't want this to seep into the consciousness of WOC but they're making too much money to care right now. People need to do their research and stop reading into society's rhetoric designed to diminish our power.

I may be wrong, but there was always makeup for black women. What happen to Avon, Black Opal, Marykay, IMAN and the drug stores brands. Now the issue we have is with the big brands MAC, NARS and so on, BLACK PEOPLE RATHER BUY THOSE BRANDS, that didn't have shades for us.I may be wrong @BETnetworks. They've left us out purely due to jealousy...they have to constantly prop their women up. If you tell a lie long enough it becomes the truth to some ppl. We as black women tend to have fuller lips, we age gracefully and slowly, the sun also doesn't burn us with permanent discoloration...etc. We're so naturally beautiful that adding a little blush or highlighter completely eliminates them off the face of the beauty game. This is why I'm for black beauty brands...we have to create our own and purchase our own. I'm personally not looking to be included or accepted by anyone, especially not them.

Lynn Lynn they are very jealous. The hateful looks I get from white women when I step into a building, a clothing store, restaurant, exclusive club, etc... my beauty and presence aggravates them and they start to get a little aggressive because they feel insecure around me. Their men, husbands, boyfriends and whatever, stares at me, smiles, flirt with me in front of them, hold the door for me, pull out my chair..... it’s quite interesting.

We as black women, we do tend to spend more on makeup because we need to “figure out” what will work for us or try to mix shades of foundation, concealer, powder together to get our shade or something close to it. Even though there is still a lot of work to be done, I do believe a shift is happening right now and I hope it continues to do so. It is time brands focus on catering to all rather than competing. It is time they bring out different shades of brown and not just light brown, brown, and “dark”. They need to consider our undertones and shades of melanin.
It is time they also remember those who are not based in American, those who aren’t African American but also, British African, African Australian etc. cover all BLACK PEOPLE. All MELANIN!.
We shouldn’t be an after thought, a “we are expanding later strategy”, we are not a trend! We are also important!

I remember watching the lip bar get ripped apart on shark tank and look at them now. Every time I see that brand and how far they ve come and they didn’t give up Am sooo sooooo happy for them. Keep wining and don’t give up.
I gave up on make up all together. Lip gloss, mascara, maybe a BB cream if...IF the formula doesn't make me look like a dust bunny. Way too much trial and error... don't have the coint. Actually a lot of people don’t know that we were always excluded from that industry because make up actually came from the film industry and most of the actors in the film industry white from the start of the film industry which was the late 1800s all the way up to the late 90s we were excluded but what people don’t really know his make up came from us the first recorded or first found box of make up was found in Egypt in a tomb

I completely understand the frustration in not seeing relatable examples of beauty in the media. I am fair skinned but have dark hair, growing up in Eastern Europe I remember every single story we read as children the female protagonist was the most beautiful and that always included her being blonde. To me that was extremely infuriating, the only dark haired character was snow white, but she had impossibly pale skin- I was neither here nor there.
I feel very hopeful seeing more and more representation for the ladies of colour and high quality brands founded by them. The most important thing is to have variety, beauty comes in many different forms and as long as we don't try to create one image to uphold we can all feel more comfortable in our skins.

Wow I loved the points that were made in this video. This definitely has been talked about for years now but the recent shifts are not a coincidence. It’s great to see inclusivity but the end almost made me want to cry! Because it’s so true how inclusivity could possibly be a trend in makeup and not a solid change in the right direction.

Loved this! I started a lipstick line in 2016 for women of color because I’m a lipstick addict and it was so hard finding the colors I needed. I officially launched last year Lolly Lips By Kyanna. It has been amazing to see the progression of cosmetics for black women over the last few years.

I'm liking this series! This is why I love brands like Fenty Beauty that change the narrative in the makeup industry. Many brands that did not have my shade now have my shade in foundation. Brands are starting to wake up finally. I just wish by black cosmetic brands are supported the same as the more well known ones. More black owned brands need to be on the shelf. It's making progress but it still needs a little more work. Jackie Aina has done such a great job at voicing these issues and working with brands to create better shades. Because of her I found my shade in Sephora. I hope that I can be a help to the beauty community with my TH-cam channel as well.

Revlon ColorStay Foundation was one of the first drugstore brands that tried to be inclusive with shade and skin types for me. As frugal as I am, lack of shade options is why I don’t get creative and try new items.
I enjoyed this! Even more, I love how we are moving out of the space of asking to be included, and instead creating our own space. We are recognizing our beauty, our worth, and our power. I love it 💛

At 750 very valid point . As someone that has worked behind the scenes in the beauty industry, it’s fact that people in the board room , PD , concept , marketing etc don’t look like us. Even when we ( women of color) do apply for roles as such , it’s incredibly hard to obtain these roles and the interview questions that are asked...don’t get me started. Many brands are stuck on pet projects and the same brand norms. Making it impossible and all ideas dismissed for diversity expansion. On experience I will never forget is when I worked at one of the larger beauty companies and I was sitting at my desk. When Product development visited my area to test shade colors on my co workers ( all being lighter complexion.) both wore significantly less makeup then me. I was the only one that wasn’t tested for shade matching. I asked PD where is the makeup for me. The express on their faces made them as uncomfortable as I was, not having my shade or evening trying to include me in the conversation of helping my two co workers find their shade.

Not sure if this is true for all black women, my foundation color changes throughout the year. I might have a perfect shade for summer but in the winter I have to find a new shade. I have red undertones in my complexion which makes it hard to find my color.

It's also a huge problem with careers in the beauty industry. I'm a Account Executive in FL for a cosmetics line and I'm pretty positive its only 2 Account Executives for a cosmetics line in Florida. All the Regionals are white or Hispanic, the Directors the VP's etc.... We have no presence on a corporate level especially sales executives this is a huge problem. I can assure you most of the women are either racist or have no interest in the black community. I have horror stories I've been through a lot in this industry. Pay attention ULTA and Sephora hardly have any black women in management it's crazy! This is on purpose and we need to speak up about this.

Black women and black skin is so sensational, I am so happy that we have brands like Fenty beauty that have absolutely revolutionised this industry and shown that there is a greater need for diversity in the beauty industry. MAC, Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder have also been amazing throughout the years, I am so glad that we have so many powerful voices talking about this.

Looks like beauty industry always operates in a paradox way. In my country most females are pale yet we have an abundance of cosmetics for females with dark complexion and very few cosmetics that would go well with pale complexion. Same with sensitive skin issue common in here whereas what we have on offer is mostly for oily or combination skin, not for very common in here dry and sensitive skin. So I would say it's the huge global offer versus local demand mismatch in many countries. So maybe the best solution is local production by females who know best what local needs are?
We all have the RIGHT to BE and PRESENT to the world our own unique "ME", and That is an AWESOME thing! But I see something that is "WAY MORE", AMAZING. The BROWN WOMEN are just simply BEAUTIFUL without ANY cover -up. We were BLESSED to be born with, 1. Rich skin tones ranging from the lightest Buttery Tans, to the deepest, Coffee/Chocolate Browns. 2. We have natural Lushious Lips, 3. We DO NOT wrinkle, as others do. 4.We have GREAT Bone Structure. 5. Our CROWNS, (hair) range from Soft Tight Coils to Silky, Losse, Waves, etc. We have adopted and have been Heavily INFLUENCED in our definition of What OUR, Beauty SHOULD look like. WE'VE Allowed, another people to tell US how U.N. -acceptable our True Beauty is to them, and have told us, "THIS IS HOW YOU SHOULD define beauty. They (others) in turn, through the CONTROL of the market, then profit from services, and products that gives them the enhanced look of what WE ALREADY HAVE. They plump their lips, lay in the sun/tanning beds, use facial contouring, perm their hair, and the list goes on. In conclusion - To MY BEAUTIFUL, BROWN SISTERS, "They have proven what I say to be TRUTH. So LETS BOLDLY ROCK OUR GORGEOUS howEVER you ROCK IT. But KNOW - WE DON'T need to spend HUNDREDS of DOLLARS to have what We have NATURALLY❤❤❤MUCH LOVE SISTERS
Have Y'all notice that they are adding natural oils and using shea butter and coconut oil and other natural products that we have been using for years.. They are putting in their products....
I so appreciate this video expressing the thoughts of so many so clearly! Because even as drugstore brands are dropping Foundation shades darker than I have ever seen, when you get to CVS & Walgreens, they might not have them. And Walgreens is the drugstore I use, so I should not speak on CVS. Walgreens has not been having the new darker shades or even medium dark shades from drugstore brands that have extended their shade range. Maybe it’s just in my city, but it’s frustrating as heck.
I had to go for a minute, but I want to say, that I was born in 1963 and remember clearly when makeup for deep/dark skin tones was almost nonexistent, and to see a time come when we have Fenty, Juvias Place, Crayon Uoma, is such a good feeling. And what I really Love is these brands aren’t excluding anyone, they have shades across the range and they take the same care in getting undertones right across the board. And I like a lot of brands, but I am loyal to these brands that didn’t believe the hype. You know, the hype that products specifically for deep/dark skin tones don’t sell. Actually this is why all these brands are jumping on the bandwagon! They saw Fenty pull into the train station and leave them behind. They didn’t just suddenly decide they should cater to everyone, no, they saw all that money going to a new brand when they have been doing this forever but weren’t inclined to address this issue. Anyway, I’m putting this on my Facebook page for my family and friends. Excellent piece.

As a mixed Asian woman with brownish wheat skin I used to love every Maybelline brand make up as a teenager. But as times goes by they have change every product to make it whitening or brightening after use. And it's sad cos I don't need to whiten or brighten my skin. Just need a natural skin tone foundation that's all. And some colors for my skin to make it pretty. I end up loving fenty by Rihanna products as it really bring out the best of my skin color. I'm sticking by fenty for the foundation sick. More than 30 colours OMG!!!! Love it
When I do wear makeup I'll probably have $40 worth of makeup on my face...😂😂 Drugstore to the house!! $10 Foundation $7 lipstick.....😂 drugstore Brands like Maybelline and Covergirl has came a long way when it comes to makeup for black women..
