Very good video. I've used a BOSS SD-1 to boost CH2 on my Diezel Herbert Mk2 for years, and I don't know why I'd look for anything else, it is a perfect tool, the BOSS SD-1 is priceless!
OD-1 is the clear winner to me: most open, dynamic (least compressed) and gritty in a good way. The bass cut/upper-mid boost was for a reason. They were conceived for boosting/punching leads through a band mix.
Very Cool, Thankyou. So many awesome sounds. I have a Boss BD-2 and Boss DS-1, they work well together giving a wide range of Drive tones, but I really want an SD-1 ...... just because, lol. Cheers
I've been using a TS-9 for long while now. I have a love and hate relationship with the compression over the decades especially when I use humbuckers. I think the tone control ramps up the treble at around 3 o'clock.
I loved the Street Fighter style intro. Perfect for the video. I also hated it because I was there for Street Fighter first time round and it made me feel RRREEEAAALLLYYY old 🤣
I LOVE these 4 pedals. But I was surprised how GOOD the OD1 sounds. I have never tried that pedal and I own a TS9. Yes the TSs sounds a bit more compressed but you can't deny that midrange increase that helps cut through the mix. The OD and SD on the other hand is not compressed as much as the TS but they sound clear and fat. I would love to have any of these 4 on my pedalboard. They all just sounds so good! That being said, I enjoy the clean sound the most here! It sounds so clear and crystalline clean. I felt the urge to play some Ventures records hehehehe.....
8:48 That's strange that turning up the tone gives it more gain. I have the same Boss SD pedal and it doesn't do that. Tone shouldn't give you more gain, tone should give you tone. Is there anything else going on in this setup?
@musingsofrock It's not that unusual. By turning up the tone you are amplifying more frequencies. Some overdrives like the blues breaker give you more tone as you turn up the gain 🤔
I've been messing with my single rectifier series 2 lately. The clean tone is awesome really. The gain channels aren't what I want. Bought a boss ds1 awhile back as a boost but not very happy with it. Thinking of getting a boss od1 or a Ibanez ts9. Any recommendations for a single rectifier, anyone? Using a Mesa 2x12 horizontal cab btw. Also have a dsl20 head with a Marshall mx2x12 vertical cab.
Hej! BOSS låter absolut bättre än Ibanez. Jag har en SD-1 som är en favorit och nu blir jag ju sugen på att köpa en OD också. Tack för att du gjorde denna video så man kan jämföra. Ha en trevlig helg!
They aren't cheap, but if you want one, go for it! I managed to score a 40th Anniversary boxed set with the OD-1, SP-1 and PH-1, I was very lucky. Might get an original one day, once I start running out of Boss pedals to collect 😂.
OD1 + DS1 = too much awesomeness
Awesome quality man... That amp really sounds glorious

Nah, you can’t be afraid to dime the tone on a TS808. It sounds magnificent.

Love the Street Fighter music at the intro!

Do you use it as your primary overdrive or as a boost?
@@middleagedgearjunkie I use it to boost a Catalinbread DLS, for solos
That would sound nice.

@@MyNameWasTecho I still love SFII, probably my favourite game of all time.
thanks for the video. i have an SD1, a TS5 and a kokko overdrive. they are similar, the SD1 has more gain, the kokko has less gain of the 3,

Very much appreciated!

TS9 is the warmest and smoothest !!
SD1 is thinner and harsher.

Personally, I like using a Blues Breaker with my rectifier. It doesn't add much extra gain, but it brings out your pick attack.
@@middleagedgearjunkie that's pretty much what I'm looking for. Thanks for the input. ✌️
Nice
Thanks

OD-1 sounds pissed off angry
Rest are spectators
So glad I scored a 40th Anniversary set with an OD-1! It's also a cool piece of history, imo.
Man that od1 is the shit. Might even need to trade my nobels for it would that be dumb? Lol
