I was admittedly shocked when the Seamaster was revealed on your wrist after the discussion of ALS and FP Jorne. I have the same Seamaster, it was my first “nice watch “ three years ago and still gets a lot of wear. Enjoyed the video!

Great video. So many parallels between Tim Mancuso and how most of us enthusiasts got into this hobby and how we feel about watches. It's like he speaks for all of us. My first "high end " watch was also a quartz. A Tag Heuer Aquaracer my wife bought me as a gift after completing residency in 2000. It is still a prized piece in my collection due to sentimental value. Since then, I've learned to appreciate mechanical watch movements and finish. I've learned quite a bit from TH-cam. Been following Tim Mosso since his early days at Watchuwant. Have a couple of Rolexes, and would love to add a high horology piece, but at this time I have to be content with admiring them from afar. With a daughter about to start college and a son in high school, soon to need a car, that ship has sailed. Priorities. I agree with the opinion that watches not worn are not worth keeping. The Tag still gets wrist time, all my watches do.
I also avoid social media like the plague. Never been interested. TH-cam is my go-to for watch related content.
Tim Mancuso, hope you continue to enjoy your amazing watch collection in good health for many years to come.

Kids do help to keep your priorities straight, otherwise watches would become your babies. You could start saving slowly for your holy grail on retirement. Cheers.

"You either love Rolex, or respect it". I think that's very true, and I'm in the latter camp. Owned many and I admire and respect their beauty and build quality, but never loved them like all my other watches.
And this Tim Mancuso fella seems very intelligent and successful, well done!

  • @andrew_owens7680

I'm at the point that I can afford a used Rolex. The problem is, the only ones I could afford are so ordinary that there are hundreds of other options with other brands that are far more interesting. For example, for a quarter of what I would pay for a used 36mm Datejust, I got a new 38mm Ball Engineer with the same Gauss rating as a Milgauss, enough water resistance to dive with, tritium lume and certified chronometer. It even has a specialized steel. Plus the company and the watch have history. Best of all, I can and do actually wear and enjoy that watch as much or more than any other I have ever owned. To imagine trading that and three other watches of the same quality just to have a pitiful example of a Rolex is a betrayal of my love of watches. Now, that said, if I had another $30k to spend on a single watch? I'd probably get the most pitiful example of a Lange und Sohne or a great example of a BlancPain 50 fathoms. As a relatively new watch collector, I'm trying to understand. Are watches a thing of beauty you want to wear, or are they simply something you put in a vault and take out to go to political fundraisers where everyone else is also wearing one?

Once you start on this hobby, you tend to always move forward by learning from past mistakes. Rolex, in my view, is a family heirloom piece, you just get to enjoy it first. Go for whichever watch you love most.

Thing to do in watch collecting is buy for yourself and enjoy what you buy. For one there are probably much better investments than watches and two if you have to impress people, do it with your character, not your watch. And Tim the guy doing the interview, who has reviewed like 7000 watches, is a big fan of Ball watches in fact its far more likely you'll see him wearing a Ball than a Rolex anytime soon. Just have fun and don't worry about making mistakes.
