    Gosh, this is what i'm longing to see - someone who knows the art of horology, pulled the trigger and collect these masterpieces. Unlike others who only play it safe and collect the overhyped mainstream brands. Thanks WatchBox Studios for making this happen, well done Rick and respect!

      It's always a pleasure to talk watches with Rick. He's open to buying all brands and prices, and he buys stuff he likes even if it's not pure Instagram heat. I love his willingness to customize designs by working with the manufacturers. I know from experience that "custom" designs that depart from brand conventions often are hard to sell on the secondary market. Rick knows and doesn't care.
      Best,

Some beautiful pieces on the table and interesting to hear what Rick is looking to acquire in the future. Great job at analysing the Watches Tim. Wear your Watches in good health Rick! ✊

There's also good diversity in his collection beyond the independent pieces shown here. • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wow, throwing down the gauntlet! I think a newly manufactured CCII is probably the hardest watch to buy at the moment. I've also heard that the Frodsham Double Impulse Chronometer has an eight-year waiting list, so that would be up there, too. And John Reardon told me that the market for used Patek Grandmaster Chimes is over $4 million when they hit the market, so I assume the AD retail obstacles must be huge. Oddly, super watches like the Greubel Forsey Hand Made 1 and De Bethune Dream Watch 5 Tourbillon remain fairly accessible new and used. And I'll never understand how the Gronefelds have closed their order books but gorgeous Laurent Ferrier watches of all descriptions remain readily available.
      Best,
      Tim

    • @shuycg
      @shuycg ปีที่แล้ว

      @@the1916companywatchreviews Gronefeld sell better due to the more modern charisma of the family running it when compared to mister Ferrier. There's also a lot of proud Dutchmen buting them. While Swiss, however proud they'd also be, there are some many other Swiss brands to spread that pride around.
      The designs of the Ferriers are a bit more classical, relatively.
      I see Principia is still available. To me the extra water and shock resistance of their newer watch isn't worth the extra 10k anyway. I'd pay 10k extra for a tantalum chronograph, over to the steel counterpart.

    Regarding Habring, this is going to be hilarious; I love them for their designs and mechanics second, whereas, most horological enthusiasts will value them for their mechanics firstly.

  • @Joe-xo3xy
    @Joe-xo3xy ปีที่แล้ว

    The one exciting thing about Journe is what I hate about it and this is the practicality of the movements;
    They have been designed with the idea of being modular as well as being robust.
    In my opinion, this has sort of removed from the aesthetics of the mechanisms. There is definitely some comparison to Rolex when you examine their approach to mechanics; Simple, very high quality, mechanically sound and complex but not superfluous.

    Rolex, Patek, and AP are all independent companies. Just saying....

    • @the1916companywatchreviews
      @the1916companywatchreviews ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, but the independent brands like Journe, DB, Urwerk, and Kari don't see it that way. Within the industry, they refer to themselves as the "indies" to distinguish this type of small-scale creator from companies that employ thousands and gross billions per year.
      Best,
      Tim

    • @shuycg
      @shuycg ปีที่แล้ว

      It's more about the power of a lead watchmaker in a given brand.
      When you don't even know who the lead watchmaker is at Rolex, it's pretty obvious s/he can't be independent to make decisions about the watches being produced.
      While at their respective brands F.P. Journe, Stephen Forsey, Tim&Bart Gronefeld, Denis Flageollet are calling the (watchmaking) shots.
