Two of mine were that skinny when I got them. I could feel their back bones and every rib. At first the didn't eat much. I've had them around 4 months and they are fat and happy now!

We took one in dirty , and so skinny and we fought for him he ate hay veggies pellets but in the end he all of a sudden passed. We only had Teddy for 4 mos. Apparently he was bought and the teenage daughter just cared more about other things. Starved and left to rot the mom reached out to a friend of mine and we took him. I have had my piggies make it to 7 years old and least was 6 years. I have 2 piggies now,1 we bought ,and 1 we saved with a rabbit we rescued and 2 rescue doggies. If I had room and owned my place I'd have more dogs, more piggies, and rescue many for good homes.

No expert, but I dont think the bath got him cold, but just he used up the last of his energy reserves in the struggling. I'm so glad he's perking up. Watching him 'self serve' really made me smile. What a little boss pig!

That is exactly what I thought, he was so emaciated, I think the struggling was nothing to do with the bath
I agree, wore himself out and desperately needed food.
I get so confused by people sometimes. That post sounded like someone who wanted to save this creature. But at the same time instead of saying, I’ll have to give it to someone else or even leave it outside of a rescue, they go straight to “I’ll have to release it outdoors.” They’ve already stated they thought the guinea pig got attacked outside and then say they’re going to do the exact same thing. It comes off as very ingenuine and manipulative and I just don’t understand people.

Yeah I agree, too. It was a mixed message. Even keeping them safe somewhere too small for afew days would help this little one, but to say you would just dump them outdoors if no one comes is horrible. This piggy wouldn't survive much longer at all, it's a death sentence. Very manipulative, and many people can be. People do many things for the right reason, this is not one of them. Hope this squeakheart survives ❤.

I like that! It’s my grandsons name! Phoenix is a bird that rises from the ashes and also a person or thing that is regarded as uniquely remarkable and he sure is remarkable!!
You should give him a name like Jericho, a meaning of strength and resilience. Good job rescuing him. He is adorable, and he is in the best hands he could possibly be. I hope he makes it.
He was nearly to die. That was too stressfull for the little body. He didn't know baths he didn't know you and your home he drived in a car and didn't know hair dryer, had not vitamine in his food he is too skinny and gave his last power to fight against you at his bath. He was dirty. Ok. But he needed a few days to come down in his new home. Of course he needed something to keep him warm thats true. And food that gives him power and makes him a bit fat in the next weeks. Thats not criticism. But you asked yourself why. So don't blame yourself. It Was maybe a mistake but he made it and we all make mistakes from time to time.
He is a very handsome boy❤ and i m happy he is getting better. Maybe a good name fir him happy or lucky.

It didn’t seem like he'd been attacked by an animal! Obviously, he was in a horrible situation, though. He's sooo sweet and what a character. When he's back to full strength, I reckon he's going to be a real mischievous explorer.

Sometimes when people go through survival situations, their body uses a lot of energy to keep the brain at max alert, and then once they realize they are safe they will immediately collapse. Maybe he had that moment once you started blow drying him (warm air is very soothing too). He did put a lot of energy into struggling during that bath as well, poor thing must've been so exhausted but wouldn't show it. He needed all of that rest and nutrition so badly, but being so skinny it just takes so much longer to get it all back.

His stomach will have shrunk a bit, but he's got a great appetite and he's a little fighter. The starvation was probably making him wobbly. I think everyone seeing this video has well and truly fallen for this little charmer. He's your piggy for life now 😂😂👍🐹 I'm so happy to see him on the mend.

He is a lucky piggy. I like the name moose which someone else suggested. It goes well with his coloring too I think. I once saw a moose while I was canoeing up in Canada and they are very large and intimidating creatures.
It's not tough, strong, or sleek, but I like Wallaby.
He used all his remaining energy during the bath. Should get water and nutrition in him for a day or 2. He is too skinny.
I think the struggling in the bath just exhausted him completely.
My brain said Joshua, like Joshua Tree. A more unique name could be Bramble. Tough, hearty and difficult to get rid of! 😘

I WANT HIM! But I live in Idaho. My husband and I specialize in the elderly, disabled, skittish, and sick. And as hard as it is, we've even done hospice for local shelter so they have a forever home for however they're on this plane with us. Otherwise they would just have stayed at the shelter until their passing.

@paulaowens6214 Thank you. We believe that while they make our lives better, they do their job easier the better we make their lives. I once took in a down syndrome piggy with birth defects. Her jaw didn't quite close and her bottom jaw was a little to he side. She had a head tilt, and walked funny. We put her in a smaller pen because she never got bigger than a 6 week old baby, so she didn't have to go as far for her food, water, and hay, and her pen sat on my end table next to my chair. She was the happiest when I would get up in the morning, open her door, and just set my hand inside for her to snuggle against, or put her on my chest while I drank my coffee and woke up. She would also yell at anyone who sat in my chair that wasn't me. The shelter owner who asked us to take her named her Angel. Our dog's name was Angel, so since this little girl was so small, we extended her name to Angel Feather. When she passed we took her back to the shelter's owner because she really wanted her, but didn't have the time to devote to her. She was able to give her a shady spot under her large tree to rest and grow a flower.
Scotty, thank you so much for sharing this experience with us. You have taught everyone watching, to feed first, bathe later. I would've done exactly what you did, clean him up first, but it was obviously just exhausting for him. Thank you again for being an angel. ❤

When he crashed it's probably because he was so exhausted. Starving, the ride, the bath, the food. His body said it was time to rest. I've stayed up days with babies needing extra attention.
Thank you so so so much for saving this sweet boy. I know all of them can’t be saved, but knowing there’s genuinely so many kind hearted people like you out there warms my heart. I can’t donate this week but I will definitely try to. No life form deserves to just be tossed out like trash just because they’re unwell. I hope he heals wonderfully

After all that struggle during bath time, he must have used every bit of energy. It is possible that the bath made him too cold, but it's great to see he's in recovery! Poor little love is super thin, and I really hope that this doesn't have many long term affects. Thankyou, for being literally the best you can be. We know that he is in the best and kindest of hands ❤. We love you and this little one, too.

Maybe he got a little too stressed/ after his bath he went into 'play dead' mode, being a prey animal.
You brought him back Scotty with the heat pad and got the all-important nutrients into him.

That's what it seemed like to me too. Going into shock feels cold and exhausted. And getting some glucose helps, or critical care in this case.

@@michellegordon4211 I learned it from watching Megabatty here on TH-cam. She rescues bats and gives them glucose to combat shock. It's been really helpful for me as I risk going into shock whenever I do too much, so now I make sure I've eaten before I do anything that might cause it.

I am only half way through…will watch the rest later. My personal opinion is he was very low on resources in his body. He expelled a lot of energy with his bath, one trying to keep warm and trying to get out of the bath. I think it sent his blood sugar crashing..you didn’t make a mistake with the bath. He needed that for his care too, but maybe fee a rescue first and then bath, so they have some energy on board. I sure hope you can save him. It’s too late heheh..you have bonded with him..he was lucky ti have landed with you..🐾🌺🐾

Yeah I think the stress of the bath was a little too much for him. Maybe just cleaning the worst areas of his belly and nether reagions with a warm damp cloth would've been better. Glad he recovered so quickly. He's adorable and full of character ❤ Looking forward to an update already
Believe it or not, when I first picked him up at the family's house he was even dirtier and I rinsed him off there. He smelled so bad like horrible mildew. I was afraid staying in that state would get him sick

Curious I'm assuming guinea pigs aren't like other animals or even humans when their malnourished and really skinny you need to give them the tiniest amount of food every couple of hours rather than a few syringes at once?
Yes good point, but in general we try to give them as much as they will take in one sitting and do that many times a day. Unfortunately I'm not sure what the right answer is but it is worth investigating and asking numerous vets there opinion on the correct approach. Thank you for bringing it up

Oh wow, I was holding my breath for this little guy. I was so relieved that I might have shed a tear while laughing at him diving nose first into his critical care 💛 It takes a lot of care and dedication to be up with a sick piggy through the night. I'm sure he is grateful. I'm so glad you could be there for him.
Oh and a name suggestion based on an animal? I'd call him 'Kudu' after the Greater Kudu. They are cool and he's similar in color lol 😊
Name suggestion: Herc (Hercules). In classical mythology, Hercules is famous for his strength and for his numerous far-ranging adventures. Hercules. God of strength and heroes.

Here's a couple of name suggestions. Aaron means"mountain of strength". Liam is Irish in origin and means "strong willed warrior".

I was hanging on to every moment! Such a sweet heart; a fighter! He is so adorable and you were amazing Scotty! You brought him back! I was calling him sweet pea at first. Then when i looked at him i thought Truffle because he came from the wild, was a rare find, clinging to life. Then I thought a fighter who was beating all odds, so the name Rocky came to mind. He is just precious❤ Thank you for what you do!
