You buy GS to impress yourself. They are really impressive. Also as for me i am asian their size is so perfect on asian wrist it look sweet. The design is not screaming "i am rich" but more like " i am rich (while whispering)" hahahaha there is something to the design that make this watch beautiful attracting attention but not in your face. Ah my GS is the SBGA413(Sakura). Also he is correct you cant see how beautiful the watch is from videos you need to see it in real life how it play with the lights. For example my sakura dial hour/minute/time indicator(I dont know what it is called) have this rainbow effect when exposed to sunlight it is amazing. The zaratsu finishing on titanium is amazing it is really look like a mirror it reflect my face perfectly like a mirror im worried to scratch it. The polishing is totally different IMO to stainless steel normal polish like in my Speedmaster. Zaratsu to my eye look like a grey colored mirror. The watch is very light compared to other titanium watch i know. People need to give Grand Seiko a chance because they are amazing.

Money talks either way, but with a GS, you whisper your wealth 😉

Nailed it. Great overview. Suwa before dawn and night birch are incredible.
Personal favorite is the sporty SBGE285 - versatile, sporty, showcases spring drive, and in a titanium suit.
I only wish there was Suwa before dawn dial option!

Always enjoy your videos thanks. I`ve been living in Japan for 12 years and finally went to the GS boutique in Ginza Tokyo last year. I have a Rolex, Omega, Breitling in my collection but everything i saw caught my attention even types of watches such as complicated chronographs that i thought i wasn`t interested in. So much of this hobby now is in the virtual space for which I am extremely grateful living in the sticks of Japan but when you see these beauties in the flesh it`s a different experience. Look forward to your Seiko video. I still can`t decide which GS model is for me so i have a Prospex diver and a Presage to scatch the itch for the time being.

I'm the lucky owner of an SBGA413, Cherry Blossom. I'm also not able to describe what I see holding it in my hand or wearing it. Incredible indeed.

Great to see some content on GS. I know very little about them so good to hear your take.

Saw your review of GS and the spring drive which compelled me to buy one this week ... HOWEVER ...
Grand Seiko - Quality Control and Company Response TBD!!
Heard so much about the Grand Seiko line and the Lake Suwa watch.
The Spring Drive truly is in theory a great innovation and the sweeping second hand is impressive to look at.
Quick run down: Bought one in Japan from authorized GS dealer and two days later found that the 5 day claim was inaccurate because it stopped after less than one day. Yes and the rear case back power reserve showed that it was full. Just two days and I never even sized or wore it yet. I immediately took it back to GS dealer that has offered to send it in to GS repair center to see what happened.
This is somewhat concerning because list price is over 9K and you wouldn't expect this to happen to a Grand Seiko!
I told the GS dealer if it requires opening up to repair I want a new replacement because this is brand new/never worn. So how would you feel if you bought a new watch and immediately it needed emergency care?
Let's see how Grand Seiko responds to this "hopefully anomaly" and do the right thing because if Im the manufacturer and its an internal issue I would surely want to do the right thing and replace it right away.
So far a bit disappointed to say the least and your viewers should be aware of this issue as well if they are considering this model.

Love Grand Seiko - I have the White Birch SLGH005 and i just got the Urban Bamboo SBGJ259 (you can see that dial in one of my youtube shorts). They are both absolutely beautiful! And definitely gotta see them in person.

SBGZ009 is my vote of the best GS. Attractive inspiration from nature, craftsmanship finishing of case, dial and movement; last but not least, Spring Drive.

You should know the days of using a dive watch and the old PADI chart ended in the 1980s with the advent of the dive computer. Nobody who dives wears a dive watch. I've never seen anybody wearing one on a dive boat.

I wonder how many evolution 9s they are selling. The prices don’t make sense. When Rolex makes an improvement (improved movement), or Tudor (eg Tfit clasp adjustment which is incredible), the prices don’t double.

Wish they could do a taper and microadjust clasp on all the models as standard. The diver clasp is stamped metal :( not god enough. For rolex price they should do better. Slim the catalouge and stop with all the limited models, my local AD never gets them anyways.

I was tempted by the 'Snowflake' some years ago but was on the register of interest for a different watch from a different brand (also a sporty / dress style) and could not justify both, it was tempting but for me that power indicator off balanced the dial, many love the indicator but it wasn't for me. We're all different and that's a good thing. Fortunately I got the call some months later for that other watch. I have looked at other GS watches since and one thing stands out and that is the quality of dial and case finishing, I don't recall seeing anything better, The later models in this video are really tempting and if I could justify it I'd certainly give the SLGA021 a look and my wallet would probably hate me.

So did Mr Ivanov on your website write this script for you or did he just copy out what you said and claim it as his journalism. Either way this is a bit naff. Pity as the interview with Andrew Morgan was excellent

I don’t understand the appeal or utility of a power reserve indicator on an automatic watch.

Hate the polishing on the bracelet and the overall design of the bracelet. Looks cheap for me. I don't like metal bracelets in general but if I had to buy purely based on looks, I would choose Rolex (though I have a strong aversion to that brand).

There is no picture and video capable of capturing the shining experience of a GS in person. This is a major comunicative flaw, if you want, but it's also due to the attention that they have towards the watch user experience. For them the wearer, person that sees the watch every moment every day is sensibly more important that the projected image or desired image or photographed imaged. I've yet to see any other brand give the same level of intrinsic satisfaction (not social satisfaction, for that brands such as Rolex are kings) for the final wearer.

The only thing I like about grand seiko’s are the dials. The rest of the watch is pretty much a presage which makes the price way too high

The problem with grand seiko is that their lugs are always ugly and their bracelet is extremely disappointing for a "luxury" brand.
