- A cooler Sunday and we had some rain. Raccoon are settled in their new house. Tulip felt like exploring and visiting with Stormy. Some interesting but subtle communication between them. Loving our new enclosures!

I'm 73 and been animal-focused all my life. I have *never* seen any animal with Tulip's enormous heart and bottomless reserves of courage. She is half Stormy's size, but she marched in there with a mission. It was just so easy to see her intent (pardon the anthropomorphism) "Come on Stormy, you gotta live a little. You gotta stop hiding away". A huge thing that she got Stormy's scent "message" but went into the pool anyway. She was not going to come out until Stormy surfaced. I know it's all too easy to anthropomorphise a character like Tulip, but I think that was an incredible thing for Tulip to do.
I agree. Tulip is naturally friendly, with a good disposition.

Oh Stormy! We just want you to have friends ❤ Tulip is very nice we promise. I love how Tulip keeps coming up to her and giving her very gentle sniffs and touches, you can tell she's very curious but doesn't want to overwhelm her. Stormy even stopped hiding for a minute 🎉 I'm so happy the quarantine is over and I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship. ❤

No, it's not about being ''introverted'', Stormy has gone through trauma and still processes all that and adjusts. If you see some people being closed-off or keeping their distance, it does not necessarily mean they are ''introverted'', it also might mean they are reserved with new people (basic vigilance) OR they were through a lot in their life. Also, there aren't pure extroverts and introverts, while some people might be more sociable, it doesn;t mean they are always an open bookl same with people who might seem more reserved at first but can actually turn out very friendly with time.

Baby steps are being made with our two ladies. Poor Stormy still seems apathetic but Tulip was great with her, just going up to her periodically to say hi then moving away, it's as if she could sense Stormy is sad. I love when Tulip rested a paw briefly on Stormy's back as if to comfort her. I hope Stormy is able to open her heart to Tulip and create the family they both need.

I love seeing them in the water. Tulip was great with Stormy, not overbearing, just little by little. I think Stormy was washed away before she came to Holley so maybe she likes to be still in the still water for now, but still nice to have Tulip's presence for company. Lovely video ❤❤❤

I was afraid after little Petunia, we would never hear those wonderful sounds again.
You can see the beavers can breathe longer than humans underwater.. I wasn't sure about the facts there.. but Stormy seemed under a while and quite happy..
I wish I could hold my breath as long as Stormy can.

Wow! What a fantastic video! It was spellbinding! Would Tulip step into Stormy Rose's enclosure? How decisively and quickly would she do so? Would Tulip get into Stormy Rose's pool? How long would she hang out with Stormy Rose? How would Stormy Rose react toward Tulip? How long would they interact? It was all just fabulous to watch them as this was developing. It was so heartwarming. Stormy Rose looked quite chill after she finally surfaced and interacted with our friendly Queen. Wow! This made my heart happy...
Lovely enclosure for Sam and Frodo! They are such active little critters... It's a joy to see them explore their environment. Thank you, Holley (and assistant Colton!), for this wonderful video! You must feel so proud, have such a great sense of accomplishment! Bravo for all the work that went into creating these safe spaces for the sanctuary's guests!

Tulip's visit to Stormy Rose was very encouraging. Stormy is naturally cautious but its lovely to see her begin to accept some interaction with Tulip.
Tulip is really making an effort to make friends with Stormy (i think the poop was not a signal!) Maybe she misses the companionship of Petunia? I look at my canvas print of Petunia every day and grieve. Holley, my brother’s best friend, who is retired from the Air Force and lives in Gulfport, MS, just had a lung transplant today at Oschner Hospital in New Orleans - a six-hour operation this morning that went very well. If there are no rejection problems, he will still be out of commission for three months, needing 24-hour care. He has had very low oxygen levels since probably 2020, and lately has been sleeping all the time. When he’s more with it, I’m going to start sharing your videos with him and his wife. I think watching Tulip eat and swim is very therapeutic.
I wish you strength and hope for a speedy recovery! Tulip eating is definitely ASMR and can bring a smile to any face. ❤

Tulip was trying so much to interact with Stormy. Always swimming close to her and letting our a soft "mooo". Just like somebody slowly approaching a person from the side and asking: "Hey, are you ok?"
And poor Stormy is so lethargic. Depressed.
I really hope she can find joy in her life again after some time.

Tulip is my daily therapy! I lost my hpuse rabbit of eight years a few months ago and watching Tulip is so helpful. Getting Tulup to help stimulate Stormy makes sense. Stormy's spaciness looks similar to my Bunny when she was dehydrated with GI stasis. Some times they don't drink, even when they need water. Love & light to all of you!

Haha You know exactly what she is saying with her behaviour...just like my cats. My BF said "how did you know what the cat wanted?!!" I saw in an article, women can read moods better than men, when both view the same pictures. It was a scientific experiment. Of course, I think men who are sensitive, may have the same ability.
Is physical touch comforting to beavers? I saw that Tulip put her paw on Stormy a few times in a way humans would see as comforting.
Absolutely thrilled Tulip & Stormy Rose had a swim together! They appeared very compatible and calm. I was especially happy for Stormy Rose having a companion. Love the baby raccoons too! They're always so busy, and a handful 🦝🦝

They can , no one is stopping them, in one of the videos Tulips can be seen carrying a huge branch back into her shelter, she carries and moves everything about to put into piles.. Stormy is always building nests with sticks in her little bed area.
They aren't cruelly treated , Stormy is here because she is ill , found in a storm drain dying, hence the name.
It's a rescue place , they aren't here for a zoo type thing , or as pets. They are here to be rehabilitated.

Curious Tulip 🌷 went up close & personal into Stormy’s🌹 -personal- beaver-al space, but when Stormy 🌹 turned to boop Tulip’s 🌷 nose, Tulip 🌷 scurried away 😅
At first I thought Stormy 🌹 was being curious & wanted to see what Tulip 🌷 was up.to…then I realized Stormy 🌹 was probably keeping an eye on Tulip 🌷in _her_ space 🤭
Tulip 🌷 was in the midst of going into Stormy’s 🌹 pool when Doc said Tulip 🌷 wasn’t intimidated by the mark…Tulip 🌷 promptly looked back at Doc (3:38), kinda apprehensive but her curiosity quickly quashed that 😅

I really hope seeing Tulip will bring her out of herself , Stormy still seems depressed , the initial greeting though from waking up to seeing Tulip there seemed ok , no aggression from either of them , she still seems subdued as if something is bothering her, when you doscussed maybe losing her family could be the reason it made me sad, hopefully she will see the benefit of having Tulip around , my hope is to see Stormy enjoy herself , she has been through so much and she does have fight in her, she could have easily given in , but she is eating well , she is doing her beaver things , she has a bigger pool , i think she wants to get better and hopefully she will see Tulip as new family.
since Stormy is marking her territory, she may feel invaded by Tulip but simply does not have it in her to defend her territory, which may add to her mental state. She probably needs a place that is completely her own without 'unwanted/unexpected" guests. Perhaps, creating some kind of a neutral territory for them may work out better. Even for possible future beavers having a neutral territory may provide for a smoother.successful introductions/pairings. Similarly to the way it is recommended that other animal species are to be introduced to each other (cats, rabbits, rodents etc.).
Strange cats have to be kept separate so they don't fight. There's no fighting going on between Stormy and Tulip.
@@edennis8578 it's not just about fights. Some animals are more assertive than others. An assertive animal may sort of 'dominate' the other animal, cross the other animal's boundaries more that the latter would want. But such situations do not always end up in a fight, the more mellow animal can be simply submissive, won't fight, but won't feel happy/secure/safe/etc. Inexperienced ppl think it's all good if there are no open fights and fail to notice the psychological discomfort of the mellow animal. It is very possible that since Stormy is still recovering from whatever severe trauma she's been through, she won't be as assertive and protective of her territory as a normal wild beaver would.
When it comes to animals, esp. such territorial animals, it is always best to let them socialize in a neutral territory first. And then, once they become comfortable, they'll decide whom and when and on what terms to let into their private/personal space.

Why does Stormy the beaver seem to be depressed?
Stormy Rose is an adult wild beaver who was washed out to sea suffering from malnutrition, anemia and a parasite infection. She lost her family and home. We have no way to know where she came from or what trauma she experienced. Some believe she should be euthanized. We believe she deserves a chance at life. She is absolutely depressed but she has improved so much since arriving. Our goals with her are weight gain. She will be released on our property. It takes time.

Loud hissing and posturing that indicates they are going to attack. The posturing is subtle but consists of positioning the body with specific tail movements prior to a fast lunge towards the other beaver

Tulip’s coat seems to not be in good condition compared to Stormy, particularly on the back. It’s so critical for beavers to have perfect coats using their paws to spread musk oil. I hope it’s not an ongoing issue suggesting something is wrong. I’m sure their mom knows this stuff too and will keep an eye on it.
Is it true that Tulip and Stormy will star in a remake of "Thelma and Louise," and Frodo and Sam will star in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"!?!! 🥰

She has been offered them a few times but ignored them. So I don't think she realizes what a treat they are. Maybe after she sees Tulips banana worship she will give them another try. She does like avocados and sweet potatoes though!
Why is it when i see beavers in people's home, thry drag toys, clothes, blanket to a doorway and make a dam?? But these two don't get to do what comes naturally to them 😢
They do , they are only in the home when they are babies , now they are out they are always dragging sticks and logs back into their shelters , they do everything they need to do.
Tulip may never go back to the wild , but she displays all natural beaver behaviour.
Stormy has been ill , she would never make it in the wild , but you can see all the wood she collects, one day she will be strong enough to return.
