  • Yo guys, today on ‪@RenderRam‬ , I'm using Data Channel modifier to get some nice super fast procedural dirt masks!
    Of course, this video would not be possible without the help of our dear ‪@evermotion‬ , so please check out evermotion.org/ and check out all important news in our CGI world!

    The reasons you mentioned why most people avoid data channel is spot on! haha

    Hard to believe that I see it for the first time, after working in 3dsmax starting from release 2012. Thank you very, very much !

    Dude it is like I am learning a totally new software with each of your videos (even though I've been using max for more than 15 years now (sad))! Thank you so much. Even features that I know I won't use probably, I now want to try and are always interesting to learn about. Also you are great in presenting them in a chill and interesting way! Thanks for producing such nice content!

    a) it does sound horrible 😄
    b) it sounds horrible, I didn't want to click on it 😅
    c) I did click on it, but I immediately deleted it bc it didn't look user-friendly at all. 🤣🤣🤣
    Another great tutorial! Thank you so much, Vjeko! 🙂

    Vertex mapping can be so handy for a lot of things - an underused feature IMHO. I use Data channel for a quite a few things - its one of Max's best secret weapon. Everyone should take the time to learn some of it. Excellent topics! Great vid as usual!

    Do you think in the future you could do one one scene optimisations on large scenes?

    • @RenderRam
      @RenderRam  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll see what I can do about it, but when it comes to optimizing large scenes, check this video and comments in comment section

    Is there a reason you wouldnt use corona curvature map since youre using corona anyway?

    I think you can add data channel before turbosmooth modifier, is there any issue.

  • @bgtubber
    @bgtubber ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Neat trick! I've never used this modifier because it didn't sound artist friendly, as you already mentioned haha. :) I have a question. Is this useful for extracting an AO pass from complex scenes? How do you apply this to the whole scene? For example, if I have a complex exterior shot. Is this trick feasible for this use case or is it aimed more towards fewer objects and simple scenes?

    • @RenderRam
      @RenderRam  ปีที่แล้ว

      This trick uses a self shading AO fake, so there’s no interraction with other objects,
      When it comes to tossing it on a whole scene, I believe that would not produce an effect you’re hoping for, because as shown with that back cushion, different poly densities would produce different resaults

  • @Capeau
    @Capeau ปีที่แล้ว

    Curvature is not the same as ambient occlusion/dirt...

    • @RenderRam
      @RenderRam  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for the comment!
      You're right there. I wanted to bring this type of effect closer to the audience with visual term as AO or dirt so that people can relate to it easily with everyday problem solving scenarios

    does it work with proxies too?

    • @RenderRam
      @RenderRam  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tried, but if you collapse it, it will keep that data under that map channel, so that tells me it will work with proxies
