I feel so blessed to have lived in the era of Mehdi Hassan Khansahib. The ghazal recordings he has left us are a treasure to protect and cherish for future generations of music lovers of the sub-continent. We will never see the likes of him again; his mastery of sur, his pathos-filled voice, his immaculate Urdu diction and thoughtful selection of the Kalam he sang. I met him with my father and shook his hand in Lahore in 1977/78 when I was as an eight year old boy and just the thought of that day puts a smile on my face.

Besides being an excellent exponent of ghazal gayiki, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had a flair for rendition of other semi - classical music forms like thumri and dadra !
I have listened to this thumri for the first time! What a soulful rendition it was! It has left a lasting impact on my heart getting it ridden with emotion! In fact, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had proved his mettle as a classical singer of promise at the tender age of eight when he had sung a Khayal in the court of the Maharaja of Baroda for 45 minutes in presence of his father ( Ustad Azam Khan and uncle ( Ustad Ismail Khan). He was inducted into the court of the Maharaja of Baroda forth with. The rest is history now! What a formidable singer the great Mehdi Hassan Saab was! The void created by his sad demise will hardly be filled!

The sequence of events in the History of Hindustani Classical Music will amply testify to this historical fact ! The illustrious career of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab spanning over almost six decades will speak volumes about his ability - as a singer of exceptional merit ! Viewers hardly require any bidding from any quarter, whatsoever, for this ; and the least, from a novice like this ! They are intelligent enough to draw their own inference !
How right was John Fitzgerald Kennedy in his assessment in saying - "A man may die ; nations may rise and fall ; but an idea lives on !"
In this backdrop, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab hardly requires any certification/green signal/go ahead from any quarter, whatsoever, for moving forward ; and the least, from a novice like this ! Propriety demands that there should be a limit to hypocrisy !

We are fortunate that this priceless voice is stored for future generations who will say 'once there was Mehdi Hassan' very easy to feel but difficult to describe.
Another of incomparable piece from this great maestro and I can certainly say that Mehdi Sa'b and his recorded songs shall remain in the music world as long as humanity would last.
As time goes by, one is becoming more and more conscious of that. We too have regressed as listeners and the rest was done by the commercial world. Thank god we have these wonderful reminders of excellence.

The great Mehdi Hassan Saab had proved his mettle in each and every genre of Classical Music -- be it Khayal, Thumri or Ghazal. The great Khan Saab was extraordinary in each and every aspect of Classical Music -- Alaap, Swargam and Loykari! He was simply wonderful as a singer! No epithet is sufficient to describe this multidimensional talent!

We do not have his competitor and he is the alone king of the Gazal in the world of music.But why these people are not helped by the government and almost remain in poverty and needy.
Those times were completely different as compared to present. And in those times most of the music comes from the humbled ones who never needed any help from governments and as per my opinion these melodies directly comes from the higher realm which never needed help and we still recognize the beauty of it.
