this private mehfil was held in vancouver canada in 1977 at the residence of former pakistani play back singer salim raza (jaane baharan fame).
salim raza migrated to canada in the 70's where he opened a music school in vancouver.
he was a very good friend of khan sahib mehdi hassan.
I've spent the last few days scouring the internet for rare private recordings of Khan Sahib. Not only was he in superb form, this was also a high quality recording, obviously being the home of Salim Raza. Thank you so much for sharing.

I sat at Mehdi Hasan Sahab's house several times. I was friends with his eldest son Arif Mehdi. I never found Ustad Mehdi Hassan delicated I found him very simple and friendly, but it's very sad that he never leave any legacy of his unique art in his family's. I pray for him that may Allah SubhanWataala forgiveness him and grant him high rank in Jannah Ameen.❤🤲🤲🤲

Viraana is an uninhabited, dilapidated place, like ruins. Even the ruins started to bloom and lit up when " you" came.

The blending of the ragas is so smooth, so seamless that it's impossible to parse the elements. Masterly command of the medium. MH and music are synonymous.

I can feel this song is a mixture of two ragas one is Basant bahar but other I cannot identify

In another sitting of this ghazal, Khan saheb himself states, in the beginning before starting, that the first line is in Malhaar and the second line is in Bahaar.
I had the actual recording in the early 80s.
