The first half of the th-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
Did that many years ago, or rather my apprentice did, I'm up top trying to line up the pre drilled bolt, "shake the post young'n, shake it harder, HARDER, all of a sudden shaking stops, I look down "what you doing lying down and why is my drill------OHH SH&T!!
Sooo impressive. I’m building my own pergola and this was so helpful. And you’re a great example not only for my 3 daughters but for dads and their sons. I hope you get the number of followers you deserve. Please keep putting up videos. Thank you!
That was genius using the oscillating tool to make those cuts at 6:20. People usually do them with multiple passes with the saw and a chisel. Great tip!
make sure you account for the swing of the oscillation. keep it 2-3m or 1/8th away from from the corner in order not cut into he corner an it will work well. Also a variable speed helps, cut a test piece to the the speed a pressure to prevent burn as different wood cuts differently.
We reviewed hundreds of videos and images of pergolas and this was our favorite design so we built one from cedar. Love the arches, the ease of brackets over mortises, and the beefy posts and beams! We've had many compliments already and I tell people where we got the idea and plans. We referred to this video tens of times during construction, printed all the diagrams, used all the templates, and even benefited from the material links...I could only find some materials by clicking your links as a search on the store's site didn't list some things. Thanks for taking the time to create a beautiful and practical design, record your build, and provide all the plans and info for free to help people like us!
This looks freaking amazing! I just watched a video of a pergola built by a whole group of guys and THIS is way better! The best part is now I feel more confident to build my own so thank you!!!
I just received my shipment of wood to begin work on a pergola, and came across your channel this morning. Thank you for sharing this video. Subscribed!
You are far from a novice, congratulations on acquiring all these skills & making your family proud! This is a magnificent pergola to enjoy for many years
Wow! I've done a ton of projects and now that I'm building my retirement home, I thought I would add a pergola for entertaining. I VERY MUCH appreciate you sharing this and it looks amazing. Hats off !!!
I used yours as inspiration for mine. It had to be heavily modified as mine was attached on 2 sides, dimensions grew, used rough cut 2×10's and 6x6 post. My came out better than i expected. A big thanks to you for the ideas.
You have put together a very nice video on building a Pergola with very little assistance needed. I am going to be building a triangle Pergola, but I like the way you planned and prepared a way for you to make it without being complicated. I'm glad you mentioned the laser level. I happen to have one and that will be so valuable when I want to level the footings.
You did a marvelous job putting that big wood by you self I thought i might need a helper but you put it all up by youself that was mighty impressive but now I guess I could do it by myself again I ain 't still sure .
Thanks for presenting such impressive demonstration. It came up beyond my expectation specially the way that all the decorated beams look consistent while they were not factory made! It's common in Australia to put the stands deep into the concrete before it sets rather than letting it to set and then drill a long hole, but it doesn't take any credit of the great job which you have done. I absolutely respect and endorse it.
Beautiful work! This is very inspiring! The only thing I’d do differently is when you put the holes in the concrete for the post base. Instead of brushing the dust off, vacuum it off. It’s easier to get the bolt in with no dust in the hole.
Very nice inspiring video, I have been planning to buy a kit but after seen your video I’m doing it my self, by far the best video I have seen, in fact, done searching for other videos. Thank you!
All I can say is Wow! It’s so amazing. I have worked on three pergolas, and by far yours is a perfect 10. I love the 8x8 posts you put. Also the 12x12 beams you put with the curves. Wow, you are so creative. I need to hire you please. You definitely have my like and subscription.
Ok - I just downloaded your template for the arch - how cool THANKS! Our pergola is to be 16' x 18' and attached to the house (so only 2 - 8"x8" posts). You have such a great design AND you built this single handedly (sans the 'muscle' for the posts) You didn't made it look like they were very heavy ... THEY ARE! I'm not as talented as you, so my husband and I are building it together. Once we're done I'll come back an add a pic. This video is saving us $5,000. We had a quote to have it built for $8,400. Rather than pay all that we bought the wood ourselves (bad timing because wood prices are HIGH; it was just over $3K!) Thank you very much. You've gained me as a big fan!! We have the 2 post footings poured and set. I'm in the process of cutting the arches (takes a while, even though our modified design has only 7 cuts). As soon as this rain stops, the ledger board will get fastened to the house, then the fun part begins. As a side note, I loved your 'persuasion' technique. Made me chuckle.
very impressive that you did this project mostly by yourself, most can not do it. my comment to you is to put on mask next time when you deal with concreate dust. when installing rafters, put the first one in first and use the spacer to put the rest in for just one end and then go to the other end, this will make the job quicker. over all great job 10/10
WOW! That's fantastic. The extra details really make it look amazing. I'm going to make some changes to my plans for the one I'm putting out back, using some of your ideas. ( my feet hurt watching you go up & down the ladder - I'm not as young, so I use a second ladder and slide a plank between them )
One of the best DIY pergola vids I've seen. Great workmanship, well explained. As a father, may I suggest in the future you not run a cement mixer in flip flops?
Wow what a job. I love empowered women (women with power tools). You did a great job and the end result was a beautiful pergola. It's a piece of art. Thanks for sharing and continued success. Merry Christmas. Hope you had a wonderful day and are safe. Love PegEgg

Anyone else waiting for the drill to fall at [7:45]? Mine does every time. You did a fantastic job.

I can't believe you did this by yourself!!!! Amazing!!!!
Finally somebody with a how-to video that just explains what they did.
what I love the most; besides the awesome and robust pergola, is that you look like you love doing this and youre having fun!!
I've seen a lot of pergola designs on here, but this is by far the most impressive.
Thanks!
You are brave and easy to follow. I’m a 110 pd 65 yr old gal and still love basic building projects. Lifting is my only challenge. Proud of ya!

You did a great job there lady. It took three grown men to lift one 2.4m 8x8" oak post 😂 when I built mine
Just two Words.... Awesome job!!!!
That looks amazing. Very impressed with the shape of those beams and colour. Turned out great!
My kind of woman, I’m in love! Very impressive!
I just love how there are soo many girls out there doing the awesome work. More power to you, great job 👏 👏👏
This looks freaking amazing! I just watched a video of a pergola built by a whole group of guys and THIS is way better! The best part is now I feel more confident to build my own so thank you!!!
The slight underside arches gives it a nice look. Most pergolas come out a little too linear/boxy looking.

You are such an inspiration, I can like this 1000 times
AMAZING! This is easily one of the best DIY projects I've seen in TH-cam. You made this look so easy. Now I have to put it on my to-do list.
