Hi Kent. Wanted to share that I finished my pergola using the Plans I purchased. It was my first major built. I didn’t think that following your TH-cam video and buying the Plans would actually work! The Plans were necessary and well worth the price. Learned a lot and allowed me to challenge myself to work on my next project… the deck scheduled for next week. Thanks again for sharing your Plans!
This is the best guide video I've ever seen. Not just DIY or wood working, but the best educational video I've ever seen. The production value here is excellent!
Excellent video description. This is the 4th or 5th one I’ve watched and it’s the only one with clear description of all the steps especially the setting out. Well done Sir
I found your video to be the best one for pergola instruction. I built my own from the ideas i got here. To support i bought the plans from your site. Didn't need them but thought it appropriate to contribute as you helped me so much. Thanks
Maestro, saludos Muy buen trabajo y explicado Eres buen instructor y carpintero Me alegro haber encontrado tu tutorías Te doy mil gracias y te seguiré en tus proyectos. Gracias hermano L Matos, Puerto Rico Bendiciones 👍🙏
That's an impressive video. Well done sir!!!! I couldn't stop watching even though I knew your next step. The animation and the commentary are gold! Thank you
I really love the animation style, interspersed with the actual preparation of each piece. I am up far too late, Kent, watching your video! Thanks for posting....
Nice work! Really like the idea of ganging parts together when cutting notches. Also liked the style of this video. The animation makes the whole assembly really easy to see. Thanks much.
Helpful video, tips and animation. Only thing I would caution some about is many jurisdictions do not allow side bolted rafters. They prefer beams be a direct point load sitting atop the posts (w/ a top post connector). Side bolted beams to posts depend on strength of those horizontal bolts, which is never as reliable as point load atop column. The joist would then be connected w/ hangers to those beams.
Thoroughly enjoyed the video with great step by step explanation with the use of the animation as well. Many thanks for including metric measurements too.
I am literally just building our pergola, and this video is excellent 👌 I am pretty much copying this to the tee. Thanks for this easy to follow video.
Awesome job, the way you blended to hands on and virtual was outstanding... Will be starting a project shortly to build one.Would love to see more videos.
Your video popped up in my feed and I"m so glad TH-cam's algorithm did something right for a change. I"ve never built anything in my life and your video is inspiring gives me confidence as I want to improve the space in my backyard. I don't have any of the advance tools you have so I really do hope I can do this with some simple tools and some tools I'd rent. Not sure I want to invest in money in tools I may only use once. But anyhow, your pergola looks outstanding, thank you so much!
Nice instructional video. The combination of the animation and real life makes this a very good format to follow. Great work, congratulations. Oh the pergola is pretty good as well.
This video helped me so much on the pergola I'm about to tackle. I would pay money for building plans with videos like this. Thank you for taking the time to share this
best how to video I have ever seen 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I really liked the animation part, makes it easy to understand. I must've watched this video like 20 times just because I enjoy watching it lol
Best ever video I have seen... with such details... this is known as perfection!! .. even a dumb guy can understand from start to finish.. love it .. keep doing what you are doing keeping in mind guys like me 👍
Very nicely executed, you've got some talent. Can't wait to try my hand at building my own. This tutorial has given me some great ideas. Thanks for posting.
This is one of the best videos I ever saw on pergola construction. It was really clear, simple and it looks really beautiful. Thanks for share. I hope you post more videos. Thanks
I very much appreciate all the animation and thorough explanation. I feel that this tutorial is not simple for the common person.. it requires lots of tooling and extra steps.. but great video!
Beautiful Job. Love the attention to detail with the little things like chamfering the edges. Question … would you recommend the galvanized saddles over embedding the 6x6 post into the concrete? I understand the wood will rot in time if embedded in concrete, but I’m concerned about the lateral strength against wind shear with just the saddles. I’m planning to build one just like this that will cover a 12x12ft concrete sitting area, and will have a slightly sloped covered roof to keep the rain off. I’m worried about the wind.
Wow, perfect. Proper craftsman.

Martin!! That is by far the winner for best comment of the year! Pinned!! Cheers, Kent
Sir, if you can tell how much did it all cost in raw materials ?
The transition from animation to outro / real thing is so stupidly smooth. Wow.
That transition at the end where the animation blended back into reality was top notch production in my opinion! Well done, and bravo!
Being a visual person the animated video really helps my brain wrap around the build. Thanks kent
This format is excellent. I see how you correlate plans with actual completion of the pieces. I would love to see more videos like this.
That's what i Buzz thinkn.
Jeff excellent video. Love the computer animated build. Very concise instruction. Also one of the best instructional videos I’ve seen. 👍
I have been looking for this exact tutorial for YEARS. Thank you!

Thank you so much. I am building a roof for my Dad on a porch outside his bedroom. This tutorial helped a lot.
I found your video to be the best one for pergola instruction. I built my own from the ideas i got here. To support i bought the plans from your site. Didn't need them but thought it appropriate to contribute as you helped me so much. Thanks

Wow, this is the BEST video and instruction of anything built on TH-cam, ever. Thank you Sir! 👏 👍 🙏
Good use of animations to demonstrate the construction processes.

Simple, but a good amount of time and labor, along with really nice building materials.
Awesome visuals for someone who learns by seeing the process. Thanks and cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thoroughly enjoyed the video with great step by step explanation with the use of the animation as well. Many thanks for including metric measurements too.
Great job explaining step by step instructions. Like the animated video! Please post more like this
More to come!
Once again fantastic video! Got home late from work but saw a notification you had uploaded and stayed up to watch. Well worth it :D
Ridiculously impressive.
ANIMATION IS GREAT IN AND OUT OF ITSELF, AND VERY ILLUSTRATIVE AT THAT, BUT NOTHING BEATS REALITY FOR ME.
Kent, high quality, and easy to follow. I always look forward to a new video from you. Thanks Chris
Thanks Chris!! I appreciate your support!
I am literally just building our pergola, and this video is excellent 👌
I am pretty much copying this to the tee. Thanks for this easy to follow video.
I love how you showed how to cut the wood many different ways depending the type of tools you have.
Thanks!
Really nice touch with the chamfered corners done with the planer and sander.
Thanks! I really like that look. It's fast and easy but adds so much to the finished pergola.
Awesome man! Love the animations. Also like how mention how to do things free hand if you don’t have certain tools. You have inspired me. Thank you.
Awesome job, the way you blended to hands on and virtual was outstanding... Will be starting a project shortly to build one.Would love to see more videos.
You have made the best illustration with animations. Why don’t you have more subs? Likes?
Love the animation style... keeps the information clear and pithy!

You nailed the animation. Great video and thank you, I will be using some of these tips for when I build mine.
Great video.
I saw one today almost exactly like this except stone was laid about 2 and 1/2 feet up each post and pavers were laid underneath.
Very clear and concise tutorial. Could you please educate me when it is appropriate to use bolts vs screws? Thanks in advance
I think the animated format was perfect for this project. Thanks for this!
