    Thank you sooo much for making this video! It's been a mystery until now. I inherited my mom's TDI 2006 Jetta and was mystified as to why the passenger front and back floors were soaked. Thank you again

    Wow! You have "Stick to it'ness". Obvious you were bound and determined to find the root cause. Glad you figured it out!

    Thank you! Great German engineering! Tons of "common" problem :) Have had 2 Toyotas over 250K miles ( 15 years and older) with sunroof, never catch a fish in my cars.

    Hi, thanks for this post and I just realised my Golf Mark 4 has this problem also from watching all your hard work (!). I might just silicon the sunroof for the time being! Dave (Fremantle, West Aust).

      I would do the same but wouldn't you know the mk5 Jettas suffer from random sunroof operation with the nob in the OFF position!

    Wow, thanks for posting as this is exactly the problem I'm having with my 06 Jetta. I agree, "what is with these German engineers?!"

      .
      Mexican engineers and assembly, with international parts from any subcontractor that keeps it cheap, along with VW TUTA dealers who haven't a clue.

    What did you seal it with? I probably have the same issue. You mentioned epoxy but I am guessing silicon?

    • @Bluegrassriver8
      @Bluegrassriver8 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, waterproof silicon sealant works or order new drain tubes connections

    Was that your problem? I have SAME car for my daughter and have been struggling with water leaks. I resealed each of the drain tubes and I still had water in the back floorboard. please respond if yours is fixed. I too busted up my knuckles :)

      Yes! That was the problem and the fix. No more problems since then.

    Is water always seeping through the sunroof when it's closed?

    • @schmuhf
      @schmuhf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. There is no way to design a sunroof with 100% functional seals. After all, it should open and close all the time without effort and in varying conditions. The sunroof being a bit leaky by design is no problem at all, but the water has to go somewhere. If that path is not functioning as it's supposed to, we have a problem on our hands.

      Deion Griffin No... It was the sunroof drain tubes

    I got the same issue

  • @Bluegrassriver8
    @Bluegrassriver8 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Might not be bad engineering? Perhaps just bad manufacturing of drain tubes and connectors that don't make or hold a proper seal. I remember my Grandpa, a master mechanic for Chevrolet for 35 years. always said NO to sunroofs because of these issues so it's not just VW folks!

    • @schmuhf
      @schmuhf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The frustrating thing is this: Building the drains in a way that not a single vehicle will ever have these issues is not impossible, and I'd boldly say that it isn't even hard. The engineers can certainly design it that way, but once they hand their files over to the accounting department, they will say: "It can be manufactured cheaper and assembled quicker at the production line. Make changes and send us your revised designs." Why don't they make the rear drains in a different shape and put simple screw-to-tighten hose clamps on top quality hoses? The sad answer is: It would cost a couple cents more for each vehicle they build.

    Why have a Sunroof and Air conditioning in a car??

    • @Bluegrassriver8
      @Bluegrassriver8 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because there days when you turn off the A/c and open the sunroof like between 65 and 79 F

    • @schmuhf
      @schmuhf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because rolling down the windows, sliding the sunroof open, putting on sunglasses and hanging your left arm out the window makes you an instant pussy magnet on hot summer days. That's why.
