Last weekend, I had my first camping trip with the sidewall kit under rainy conditions and I must say, there is room for improvement. First of all, but this is related to the shadow awning itself, there is one larger seam in order to hold the two bigger canvas pieces together, and this seam is not waterproof. The rain was not that heavy but quite long (3-4 hours) and after an hour, some water droplets appeared along the seam. So I somehow have to impregnate the seam.
The next point are the windows of the sidewall kit. If it is raining and the wind is coming from the side, you have to close the windows, but then it is pretty dark at the inside. It would be great, if the windows would contain an additional removable layer of a transparent but waterproof material.
The last point is about how waterproof are the sidewalls. To be honest, I am not sure where this problem is exactly coming from and there are several possibilities. Anyway.. I had two locations, where water was coming through at the upper 10cm close to the roof of the awning. It came either through the velcro fastener (have opened and closed the velcro connection a few times in order to have a almost perfect fit) or through the canvas of the sidewalls itself, which then also need some impregnation. I have also used the storm kit and interestingly the positions, where the water was coming through was close to the positions, where the clamps of the storm kit were clamped to the roof canvas of the awning (the canvas material of the sidewalls were not clamped in). Here I would say it makes sense to lengthen the end part of the awning canvas a little bit in order to create a bigger overlap over the velcro area to make sure, that no water can enter into the velcro connection.
The water, which was coming through was also not that much, but I would recommend not to put clothes close to the sidewalls overnight, especially if the upcoming days are rainy days as well and you have difficulties in drying your clothes anyhow.
Besides that, a great product and can still recommend it.

I can definitely agree with all of this points. And by the price of a little used car , i expected more perfection... hope you will find a solution

You are missing a canvas or something to put under the tailgate/car.
That's a huge hole to fill, where bugs get in, and heat goes out.

Would love to add this to my awning as it always rains here in the UK but It’s very expensive. Can buy another car 🚗 . One day! 😂

As always it would be great if you could demo in real life situations.

will the storm kit cause unwanted longterm stretch in the awning fabric ?

We have not had or heard of any issues regarding that.

Definitely awesome... only the storm kit is way to overpriced...

What camper is that? I want order an alu cab but I’m trying to keep my decked system and tailgate. Do you have a solution?

That is a Ford Ranger with our Canopy and Rooftop Tent on. That would be the best way forward to keep your tailgate en decked system.

My shadow awning only has 1 pole I see three here. Does the kit come with extra poles?

So what do I need to buy all of those?

    • @alu_cab
      @alu_cab  2 ปีที่แล้ว

They are all included in the kit. Do you mean you would rather want to purchase each Side Wall separately?

Adaptation suggestions to support a micro log burner?

We haven't seen or done such an adaptation, unfortunately.

Would have been perfect if once could put a stove inside, and I don't know how the corners fit together, but if they use zippers, you could just have 2-way zippers, and then have the pipe go out in a corner.

Packing rocks around the base is not an ideal method of securing the walls in place
