Let us not forget Paul Yandell as well. Chet and Paul ... what a combo they were!

You're absolutely correct. Paul was a very fine guitar player. I have his CD "Forever Chet" and believe it to be a very nice thing to do in memory of Chet.

Paul always does a perfect job of backing but not overshadowing Chet. Then again I’ve never seen any guitarist actually overshadow Chet! He never copied his duet maestros. But his improvisations complimented the music beautifully. His duets with other masters are so good to hear!

@@allanrussack2844 agreed (mostly) with the exception of Chet and Jerry doing that live version of “Jerrys Breakdown” on TH-cam somewhere. Jerry soloing on the absolute ragged edge and Chet looking over just thinking ‘what the Hell and I’m supposed to follow after that?!?!?” 😆 They brought it the best in each other, what a one of a kind team

@@shano92107 And Jerry NEVER failed to credit Chet for every single ounce of his (Jerry's) success. There's an old interview of JR that I can no longer find where Jerry sits in the outfield seats of a minor league baseball team (I think Jerry had part ownership) where JR says something like "everything I have in my career ALL goes back to Chet!" For that reason, Jerry was like a puppy dog whenever he played with Chet. It was very heartwarming.

    Whos the bass player

I made the same question some years ago and had an answer from a man called Mark who wrote: "Chet's bass player was Johnny Johnson. I think he is still active in the Nashville area but 1991 was a long time ago!!!" It was on this concert I saw him and really liked his bassplaying: th-cam.com/video/H1okuO2wHhg/w-d-xo.html

it was indeed Johnny Johnson. Johnny and I got to know each other when we both taught private lessons at Cotten Music, just a couple of blocks south of Vanderbilt Campus on 21st ave South. I taught there when I was in high school in the mid 1960s, then in the 1970s after college, and even for a while in the 1980s. it must have been in the 1970s when Johnny was teaching bass there. that must have been before he landed the wonderful gig as Chet's regular bass player for the live gigs.
Johnny told me that it was one of the better gigs in the country. That makes sense because everyone always knew Chet to be very generous.

Jerry Langlois Chet was a very funny man, but he never looked like a clown to me! Paul must be quite a good guitarist to be employed by Chet for so many performances.
