I was living in Austin and was at this taping. I wish I had the raw footage, Chet was hilarious! The outtakes would go viral! A lot of people left after an hour, but we stayed for the whole thing. Chet would stop a song and say he made a mistake and tell a funny story then continue. Still my favorite live show ever. All those crowd shots were done in the first 4 or 5 songs.
I've old tapes of his lessons? and he'd hilariously state:" all mistakes are inte tional!" Love Chet since 5/6 years old@ 69,I'm happy, & grateful others were aware too, a true humble Country gentleman! God Blessed ***
I was there also Keith, it was a tremendous show. It was probably 1am by the time they wrapped up, and wasn't very many left in the building. They did the finale about 11-11:30, so those that didn't want to stay could see the ending. I watched the show on TV, and it almost seemed like a different show.
It's crazy to hear that people started to leave after one hour. Who would leave a show with a legend such as Chet. And so many great guests. I could only have dreamed of being there.
Not sure what got me into playing the guitar, but I loved it for close to sixty years and admired what I could find of Chet. These days the pain and stumbles come close to bringing tears to my eyes, but I still try now and then. My mind still knows how, but my fingers just refuse to cooperate the way they used to.
Always will be No.1 "CGP" and the Godfather Of the Electric Guitar. I am so privileged that I have seen him perform live and I have been a finger-picker for many years.... RIP Mr. Atkins.
Yes Uncle Chet was a real smooth operator indeed. More guitar players like him we truly need. Unfortunately they are almost impossibleto find. He also possess an intelligent mind and Chet was truly one of a kind.
The “radio” and major labels definitely sold out years ago, but 5 years ago when you made this comment and still today in 2021 the real music is out there. We just have to stop being lazy and actually look for it.
To have Chet back you up during most of a solo must be one of the most humbling experiences a guitarist can ever have. I'd be so nervous I'd forget the whole damn song.
What an absolutely elegantly magnificent guitar player Chet was. His touch, sensitivity and craftsmanship was so many levels above many so others. Thank you for your superb music, Chet
CHET"S MAGIC NEW SOUND SETS HIM APART FROM ALL OTHER MUSIC ARTISTS OF HIS TIME WITH MUSIC ARRANGEMENTS AND IMPROVISATIONS INSPIRING INNOVATIVE CUTTING- EDGE PLAYING TECHNIQUES THAT MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT THAT PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE FROM START TO END.😅❤🎉
Young Thing wow, loved it. A very beautiful tune is this Mountains Of Illinois, Pat Bergeson what magical touch on guitar to this Song Read My Licks, and it goes without saying Thank you Steve Wariner for your gorgeous voice & talent with your guitar, a line up of awesome artists, love Don McCleans' Vincent. Thank You Kolo Colovacio 4 sharing these awesome guitarist.
The man always seemed so relaxed, no worries in his head about the outcome, that grin of his just lets you know that he's got it handled. Nice posting here.
Indeed. He appears to be so chill that it looks more like he is sitting on poach way up in the mountains, sipping a frosty limonade and pickin on a beautiful Gretsch while watching a beautiful woman walking by. Not a care in the world.
And EJ the perfectionist muffs a note out of nerves. Respect for the master, no shred, just melody. Chet doesn't abuse the instrument, he just lets the music out.
This makes me cry like a baby. Particularly "Somebody Loves Me Now". My god what an overwhelmingly beautiful piece. It makes me think of my girlfriend and how I want to fix our broken relationship and that was before I knew the name of it. RIP Chet.
I saw this show on TNN in 1994. Bought the CD later. Never have found a DVD of this show. Had it on VHS tape long ago. That tape is buried in a box of tapes I stored away 20 years ago.
i love some chet and friends lord i wish i could've been in his band they're always so tight of a group no matter who he's got playing with him, top notch guys the bunch and of course he's the giant of picking and tone ... thanks for all the great songs and licks chet
Unassuming and in the full understanding that the music controls the never ending flow of ideas/techniques/interpretation and composition. Chet Atkins and Les Paul - always encouraging musical exploration to the end. Add to that list, the late and great Jeff Beck.
He was Tommy emanuel's idol. When he finally heard him play he played a couple of chet's songs and he said he played them much better than he did. He said Tommy is the greatest guitar player the world has ever known. Tommy taught himself how to play and it was years before he even knew what a bass player was. He always played the base in his music like chet does.
Wonderful! For what it's worth, I've lived in Illinois for seventy-seven years, and there are no mountains! Don't be fooled by town names like Mt. Sterling or Mt. Carmel. This was on PBS years ago and I recorded it on VHS. The station is in Peoria, about 80 miles away, and we're in the Illinois bottoms. At the time we had a sixty foot antenna and could receive the PBS station fairly well. As I recall the video was pretty bad, but the audio was okay. I still wish I could hear the sound made when that line of glass, or whatever, has a drum stick passed under it.
let me know what you are missing..My dad had his entire collection, and my dad passed this past spring...I would love for a true Chet lover to have them..
Chet got to see some awesome players come up. He could be like a baseball manager or something, stand there and talk about his connection to every guitarist of the period like old baseball skippers talk about experiences with players in different organizations.
That Mountains of Illinois (excuse spelling) piece is so beautiful. Thumb-downers must be paper and comb devotees. This is wonderful. Thank You Mr. Chet.
I've been listen to Chet Atkins since I was 12 years old I'm 68 now and I love him more today than I did then I've even learned to play a lot of his hard songs that I never dreamed of playing my my brother bought me a left-handed Gretsch and I've never stop playing it for last 3 years now Chet is such an inspiration to everyone who loves him my dad bought a new stereo in his bedroom he bought every album Chet put out at the time when I was 12 he got me in the bedroom laying on the bed with light off listening to the delicate tones that only chet could produce and I've loved him ever since no one will ever be a Chet Atkins including me who loves him so much but I know someday when I die I learned some of his stuff that's good enough for me
Ya gotta love the string section on "Sails." "Read My Licks,"=three pickers having some serious fun. Always admired Eric Johnson's technical abilities but he never seemed to play with any emotion, contrast that with "Vincent," the difference is night and day.
One of the best ensembles that ever hit a lick. No one missed one single note and they looked like they really enjoyed playing with one another. I've recently been looking for people that Chet has played with and found entirely by accident Steve Warriner, although I don't know how I could have missed him. Does anyone know the name of the guy who was playing that green guitar? Chet, you were the very best. Rest in peace.
How many guitarists get a chance to do a record or a network special and say to themselves, you know what I need to do I need to get that Eric Johnson up there on the stage with me? Well Chet did
I play guitar can't read music play by ear but after listening to Chet Atkins hour after hour pretty soon everything starts to sound the same not exactly the same but close enough to wear turn hard to keep going
Chet and Steve together just great. Doesn’t get any better. Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️
Chet was always well dressed. A very classy individual. Respect for himself and the music. Plus his dry charming wit. Always a pleasure to listen

Awesome Story! You saw the "Real Chet" not the stage Chet👌 👍👍 Chet and Luther (Johnny Cash's picker) is the reason I started playing guitar in 59.
I've old tapes of his lessons? and he'd hilariously state:" all mistakes are inte tional!" Love Chet since 5/6 years old@ 69,I'm happy, & grateful others were aware too, a true humble Country gentleman! God Blessed ***
I would stay if he play 10 hours !

I invariably catch myself smiling whenI listen to Chet😁🌈
Chet got me into guitar playing and arthritis got me out after fifty years, Chet will play and influence forever. Thank you Lord,
Not sure what got me into playing the guitar, but I loved it for close to sixty years and admired what I could find of Chet. You mean: thank you Chet Atkins!!!!!
Crazy as my words sound.
Try eating..."Carnivore"!
Evidence, helps with arthritis.
Good health, friend.
His touch is so light.cant be taught.makes very tricky chord passes look like child's play.poetry in motion.
The world's most amazing guitarist at the time. but even in the future he stands out for his unique way of playing guitar
I used to work with Terry McMillan Harmonica and percussion.... it was nice to see him again, too. Thanks for posting!!!
Met Chet with Earl Klugh at a show in Toronto Canada a long time ago!
Chet, you the greatest inspiration for all of us guitarist's !!!
Always will be No.1 "CGP" and the Godfather Of the Electric Guitar. I am so privileged that I have seen him perform live and I have been a finger-picker for many years.... RIP Mr. Atkins.

He sure was ! Truer words were never spoken !
What fun to listen to this. Too bad you don't hear classics like this anymore on the radio.. we've sold ourselves out to the almighty dollar.
Ursula Kur ]
Not all of we Golden Oldies my Dear Ursula..
Just like an ol wound up Timex..we keep on Tickin an Pickin :>)))

Amazing is all I can say. After the guitar gods created Chet Atkins, they broke the mold! A one of kind master.
God the Father made him a blessing to us...❤
Mark Knoffler introduced me to chet and I fell in love. Great guitar player.
High praise indeed, Mark Knopfler recommending Chet Atkins
Chet is a real comedian as well as a being a phenomenal guitarist.
What an absolutely elegantly magnificent guitar player Chet was. His touch, sensitivity and craftsmanship was so many levels above many so others. Thank you for your superb music, Chet

Thanks for posting. Sometimes I forget how great the MUSIC and Chet really was. After listening to him, my soul always feels better.
Great music love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'll never get enough of his guitar playing i suppose..... it's unique, immediately recognisable.
That last tune sounds like something from heaven--not like a human should do. Wonderful.
It was from heaven - he was evoking starry, starry nights - luminous and radiant. 🌟🌟🌟
Don Mclean's "Vincent" one of the most painfully beautiful songs ever developed..
Chet Atkins remains the true definition of COOL.
No Argument here
That's the shit there!!!¡!
“AWESOME”
What can anyone say but “AWESOME “
The Master
Okay, I admit it: tears welled and dripped: ‘Help Me Make It Through The Night’. Sweet.
He doesn't need a band. He can play all the parts by himself at the same.
Very melodic players all. Chet was always a "careful" player with proper attention paid to time, tune and tone. 3 essentials to good music.
A very sensitive an beautiful version of "Vincent", delicately played by a craftsman of the guitar.....
The Maestro. He makes it look so easy.
Doesn't he Arthur! Been playing for over a half century & stll can't completely get Chet 's style
This is always fun to watch. Chet Atkins, country gentleman and certified player!
The man always seemed so relaxed, no worries in his head about the outcome, that grin of his just lets you know that he's got it handled. Nice posting here.

One of the best if not The Best guitarist that has ever live. A lot of good players coming up.
Dont say head,say soul
And EJ the perfectionist muffs a note out of nerves. Respect for the master, no shred, just melody.
Chet doesn't abuse the instrument, he just lets the music out.

Whenever I'm super-stressed, I listen to "Sails." I feel my neck and shoulders loosening.
What a beautiful piece of live music.
Clyde Crum This version of Sails is the best I have ever heard.
This makes me cry like a baby. Particularly "Somebody Loves Me Now". My god what an overwhelmingly beautiful piece. It makes me think of my girlfriend and how I want to fix our broken relationship and that was before I knew the name of it. RIP Chet.

Mark Bard I have the exact same story.
Great show!!!!!!
Thanks so much for posting! Born and raised in Nashville. Not there now, this takes me back!

The man with the green electric guitar is awesome. Chet, as always is magnificent.
Yes, and he looks like a young Vince Gil.
Pat Bergeson I believe
@@shawnbaird4873 Thanks!! I was about to go thinking that it was JD Simo! They both really look alike!
@@ariffjohanismusic5577 you're welcome
Chet has such a way with a guitar.....fast or slow music...he is just a master musician.....
Beautiful soundz from some of the best musso's that have been around for a very long time.
Unassuming and in the full understanding that the music controls the never ending flow of ideas/techniques/interpretation and composition. Chet Atkins and Les Paul - always encouraging musical exploration to the end. Add to that list, the late and great Jeff Beck.
He is a wizard. He creates an orchestra on his guitar.
Greatest right hand in the history of guitar. Those fingers worked like pistons.
I remember watching this on TNN way back in the early-mid '90s. I've been looking for this for a long time. Thanks for posting it.
Чет удивительный гитарист! Когдая его слушаю, у меня душа поёт...
Согласен, это здорово!
Oops bass
Chet knew how to pick the players too. Pat Bergeson, one of the greatest guitarists to ever grace the earth.
Another one of Chet's protegés...he sure knew how to pick 'em...
chet is the first guy I ever seen do an arpreggio sweep style. Eric Johnson! what a treat!
That's the way you're supposed to play them. Cross picking.
what a great rendition of Vincent
Great to see Chet play a resonator.
Wonderful! For what it's worth, I've lived in Illinois for seventy-seven years, and there are no mountains! Don't be fooled by town names like Mt. Sterling or Mt. Carmel.

Chet Atkins a True American Maestro
I sure miss Chet i couldn't wait to by his latest lps i have most of what he produced over the years
let me know what you are missing..My dad had his entire collection, and my dad passed this past spring...I would love for a true Chet lover to have them..
I had his album from around 1967. I watch every video to see if any of the songs are on here. Love Chet Atkins playing!
So good to hear from the past
Every time I feel uninspired Mr Guitar finds his way into my headphones.
Chet.

TNN was great back in the day!
Technology? I'm just waiting till I can get a brain "download" of "Chet" so I immediately play like him! (maybe in my lifetime?) RIP xxx
Beautiful.....
Truly the Godfather of guitar
Chet Atkins 吉他彈的出神入化,真是好听!

For me one the world best guitar players with a unique technique...
It's amazing that he had no training.
He learned how to play guitar all by himself. 😊
Glen Cambell the same ...
Chet laid back on this one, but he can rip when he wants to.
No words. Just one of the best.
True heroes of the music world.
depuis des années ,un grand de la country music......J'aime...j'aime Papy country A +
My heros. Music will never be any sweeter!
Always on my mind. My Uncle Chet 🤠

Good Time Charley is great. I also love Loren Barrigar and Mark Mazengarb's version too!
Stanley Jordan has such a unique way of playing the guitar l love it

Ricky Skaggs
Not Ricky Skaggs. Pat Bergeson.
Who is the amazing guitarist and singer who's trading licks with Chet during this beautiful rendition of Read My Licks?
You mean Steve Wariner?
Omar Frank,CORRECTION,The rythum player is not Pat Davison.
It is Pat Bergeson Sorry about that
How many guitarists get a chance to do a record or a network special and say to themselves, you know what I need to do I need to get that Eric Johnson up there on the stage with me? Well Chet did
