My favorite memory of Chet Atkins was hearing him tell a story of taking a cruise to relax. He had an acoustic guitar with him and was out on a deck chair relaxing and playing a little bit for his own enjoyment. The lady next to him said "you're pretty good with that guitar. You're no Chet Atkins mind you, but you're not bad". He just smiled and went back to his cabin.

You should try GarageBand from Apple, you don't need to play an instrument. You just drag and drop pre recorded beats and the add maybe a bass line, etc...it's really not that hard. You never know😀😃

They were both superb guitarists. The difference? Chet was so laid back, whilst Jerry was a showman! But what a team they made! A real joy to watch them together. Oh, how I miss them!
I agree with you describing Jerry as the showman of the two, but there is that deep melancholic feel to what he does, both when clowning and playing. That's what I think that these two have in common apart from their incredible mastery of guitar playing within the same culture of southern rural and small town USA.
The amount of talent in that band is Ginormous!!! A very young Brent Mason & Jerry Douglas , Handsome Harry , Mark O’Connor , Pat Bergeron, & Paul Yandell not including Jerry & Chet !!!! The adoration on Jerry's face for his dear friend Chet is never more evident than when Jerry sings "All I Ever Need Is You." Still hard to believe that these two giants are no longer with us. There are lots of really good players around today, but no PAIR of them are as tightly linked as Chester and Jerry.
Love to hear Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed play together on the guitars they are both the greatest ever. They make you just sit there and listen and watch them make those guitars play that beautiful music.
It's so nice to see this old video of Jerry Reed and Chet. There's even a very young Jerry Douglas on Dobro. Always love Jerry Reed, and I miss him and his music. I do have CDS but nothing like seeing and hearing from him on stage, or movies.

They both practiced alot and yes they learned from eachother. To say its a natural talent is to take away from all of the hard work and dedication they both put into the instrument and music. It isnt a gift its alot of hard work
The Nanci Griffith cut was really superb. Suzy Boggus is one of the top female voices of the last 50 years of country music and she and Nanci lay those lyrics down perfectly every time. It also never occurred to me before that she and Jerry Reed would sound so great together
From players point of view, Chet somehow managed to stay current with all of the great guitarists as they came up, regardless of their respective genres. It's one of the things I respected most about him, he just loved the art regardless of who it was coming from. Jerry Reed was another great guitarist, but vastly under rated I think. I found an interview with Chet saying how horribly insecure Jerry was about his playing. He recounted a time when they were just warming up & Jerry whipped out some runs & progressions that floored Chet, when he asked Jerry to show him Jerry grew uncomfortable, started making a joke about it (his go to thing when uncomfortable) then finally said it was time for a break. LOVE seeing these two playing together, thanks sharing!!
I hate it when you start a long video and think maybe I'll just watch a few minutes and then it is so good to hear that you end up watching the whole thing! Jerry and Chet are playing every day now without a doubt!

I saw them live years and years ago and I witnessed one of the coolest things ever from Chet. Jerry was introing "Georgia On My Mind" and Chet followed for about two bars past the intro. Then he just folded his arms across his guitar and watched like a fanboy. Stood and applauded when Jerry finished. Kinda like he did in this clip, but with more enthusiasm. It was quite a deal, I thought. Also as in this upload when they finished "Sneakin' Around" and Chet smiled at Jerry then patted him on the shoulder. Wow! Chet also thought the world of Suzy. I grew up listening to Jazz. It wasn't until I was an adult that I realized these two "country stars" were damn good jazz musicians. Best version of Summertime ever.
Totally- some people pigeon hole country (see Buddy Rich’s famous comments) but IMHO, as a previous commenter said, ALL music is an opportunity for exploration and growth… it’s also a matter of taste, but musicians of certain caliber, in any genre, may be capable of crossing genres or creating a fusion (examples from Yo Yo Ma, to Bryan Ferry, to Joni Mitchell, to Marty Friedman)… SO much to learn and enjoy!
@@Dtruthseek I believe the guitarist is Bill Lloyd, the Drummer is Harry Stinson, the bass player is Glen Worf, that's Mark O'Connor on fiddle and John Jarvis on keyboards
@@birdman5939 Thank you. But this time I happened to see the band members flash by in the credits at the end (took me a while to freeze it in the right place so I could read them, they went by so fast). Here's what it said. But hey, wait a minute, during the video at 39:50 at the end of Atkins' solo he turns to the strat player and someone shouts "Hey Pat" to indicate it's his turn to solo. Was there another guitar player on the stand named Brent Mason? (plus below in the reply to Martin Lehfelt, it would seem to indicate Pat Burgeson, per "E L") Music Shop Band: Mark O'Connor, fiddle Brent Mason, guitar John Jarvis, keyboard Jerry Douglas, dobro Glenn Worf, bass Harry Stinson, drums
Jerry Reed and Chet... a match made in heaven. Mark O'Connor, another superlative. I hear the influence of Stéphane Grappelli in some of his jazz work, as I do here. All three, great composers in different in different, but related, idioms. If I were anywhere near as good as these guys it'd be hard to be as down-to-earth as these three. Just magical.
Maybe the best of Chet Atkins in this performance, is that he knows where to keep quiet.... I mean, he's up front most the time, I'd be like, play as much as i can, let them hear everything i do... but Chet, he's just listening and enjoys even when he feels it's not his turn.
My favorite memory of Chet Atkins was hearing him tell a story of taking a cruise to relax. You get to see and with the CD hear Paul; solo. Amazing player. RIP to all of them. We are the blessed ones for having them in our lives.
That first tune sure had a sinister twist to it. Beautiful.
i could listen to summertime all day!!
Best show ive seen in a good while!! 👍
mercy shake a goat, i could walk a 100 miles listening to this and not break a sweat
3 Little Words is masterful! One of my faves. I'd kill to be able to play a "bad bass" and a "bad guitar" as well as Chet!
I grew up listening to Jazz. It wasn't until I was an adult that I realized these two "country stars" were damn good jazz musicians. Best version of Summertime ever.
Totally- some people pigeon hole country (see Buddy Rich’s famous comments) but IMHO, as a previous commenter said, ALL music is an opportunity for exploration and growth… it’s also a matter of taste, but musicians of certain caliber, in any genre, may be capable of crossing genres or creating a fusion (examples from Yo Yo Ma, to Bryan Ferry, to Joni Mitchell, to Marty Friedman)… SO much to learn and enjoy!
absolute perfect group of musicians.
Would love to know the names of the others, especially bassist and guy playing green strat (almost looked like Vince Gill many years ago)
(plus below in the reply to Martin Lehfelt, it would seem to indicate Pat Burgeson, per "E L")
Music Shop Band:
Mark O'Connor, fiddle
Brent Mason, guitar
John Jarvis, keyboard
Jerry Douglas, dobro
Glenn Worf, bass
Harry Stinson, drums
@@Dtruthseek yes i saw 2 electric guitarists to Chet's left, one was a young Brent Mason n another guy who was playing the bluesier stuff.
Très très bien 🤩, merci pour la publication.
That’s just so good! Jerry always had to have the last lick.
they got me on the very first tune .. wow what a music
Leaves you speechless.
Jerry Reed
Chet Atkins
Glen Campbell
These three legends were in a league of their own... Especially Glen
Don’t forget Roy Clark too. Jerry is tops for me, though.
That’s an elite list , indeed. For me, Reed is the head of that class.
This is too much talent for my senses.
Mike O'Connor on fiddle! The best!!
Amazing musician
Check out Clarence Gatemouth Brown before you finalise your best of lists !
Mark was grand master champion on both fiddle and guitar.
Thanks. Will do!
@@rockinredneck57 you forget to mention banjo and anything else with strings on it!!
great bass and seperation
Jerry Reed and Chet... a match made in heaven. Mark O'Connor, another superlative. I hear the influence of Stéphane Grappelli in some of his jazz work, as I do here. All three, great composers in different in different, but related, idioms. If I were anywhere near as good as these guys it'd be hard to be as down-to-earth as these three. Just magical.
Chet, Jerry, and the Kid 👦 are great 👍 Guitarists, Love ❤️ the jazz style music.💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Mark O'conner ain't shabby!
Chet always seemed to have an extra bounce in his step around Jerry Reed.
TRUE UNENDING TALENT !!! this is what is missing in today's culture.
Maybe the best of Chet Atkins in this performance, is that he knows where to keep quiet.... I mean, he's up front most the time, I'd be like, play as much as i can, let them hear everything i do... but Chet, he's just listening and enjoys even when he feels it's not his turn.
Each a legend.
So nice to see Brent mason playing on the background
No I’m mean the Guy om the telecaster that is Brent for sure 😉
Guitar gods
Outdoing each other
Each thought the other was their favorite guitarist
🍺🤗cheers
