@@totalDfitness you can get down to $20-40 in Vegas a night, no excuses. You can manage a whole week at an Airbnb for less than $150, no telling VRBO. Housing cheap in Vegas. Try that in my city, I've paid $3,000 a month for a 1 bedroom in the Mile High City.
I haven't seen one of your videos in a while. The cinema quality of them is great. Both the editing and the optical quality. And your style is a notch up. But a lot of your older videos were a casual stroll through Vegas. Great job. My compliments to you and your crew.
I like to stay here for the following reasons: weekend rates are 1/2 the price of the strip hotels, 1 block away so not as noisy as Freemont street hotels, and casino bi is low minimum and 3 to 2 payoff forblackjack. Also, there are two additional restaurants across the street that you can use comp pts including ayce sushi.
I loved this video Jacob. You talked about everything that I wanted to know about the El Cortez as I was thinking of staying there on my next Vegas trip. I certainly hope your reviews are picked up by these establishments and are appreciative of your efforts as you go over and above in analyzing every detail. When I saw the title of the video I immediately thought of it was the El Cortez. My wife and I stayed there several years ago and it is such an interesting and historical place. Thanks for some of the historic tibits of the place.
I personally like El Cortez. I've stayed in Pavillion, King Tower, and Cabana Suites. Highly recommended for cheap hotel and great atmosphere. I even met Jacob when he was leaving El Cortez last month. It was awesome to meet you.
I’ve never been inside the El Cortez cabana suites, but the room looks really nice especially in the downtown area. I ate at the Siegels restaurant too and I enjoyed my meal I had there. EL Cortez has been around for 81 years and it definitely still has the same classic vibes that we don’t see often at the Strip. I love the editing you did of this video, especially when you did the tribute for Tony Hseih who redeveloped Fremont East District . I lost $60 bucks playing the Buffalo slots 🎰, but I always had fun enjoying myself every time I visit the El Cortez. I love that you’ve shown the interesting facts about the place and the pictures that you took as well. Plus, the view is so beautiful 😍 I’d definitely go inside the cabana suites one of these days next time I visit the area. Born and raised here in Vegas myself, I definitely recommend the El Cortez to anyone who wants to see downtown Fremont street. I agree ☝️ that the area is rundown, but it’s definitely gonna get redeveloped someday. I went to the neon museum last month with my dad, and I remember going to the Cashman field where I watched the Las Vegas 51s baseball ⚾️ game when I was little. Thanks for making this video Jacob, I appreciate it a lot. Happy new year 🎈🎆🎊!
My Grandparents from the LA area always use to stay at the El Cortez prior to the mid 70's when my Granddad passed away. I finally had the opportunity to stay there with my parents, son, & Grandmother in '86. I absolutely LOVED it!! ♡♡♡ One thing that really stuck in my mind is that amazing Grand Staircase! ☆☆☆
Great video. Would never thought ti stay there. Have gotten the prime rib before. Lots of good tips about this place. I might consider it when staying Downtown.
sometimes the back doors of casinos lead out to the fire escape gates, which are linked to the swimming pool area, and you can simply go there at night and sleep in one of those cabanas and use the towels as blankets during the summer when it's hot at night. it's completely free. although there are wild animals like possums and cats that lurk the darker corners and they have fleas.
8:13 The hot dogs and Bratwurst are really good at Ikes bar. And they will pile on all the toppings (including saurkraut) at no additional cost. Great place to grab a quick bite and a beer.
El Cortez is a great place to stay.....done so 5 times both in the main tower and Cabana Suites. A great value and perfect location for Fremont St area. Thanks, Jacob, for another excellent video and showing off your pecs!
You always come up with the best content!! We went to El Cortez a few months ago just to check it out because it's a historical property. We took some good pics of the outside but now I have such a better knowledge of the whole property. Thanks so much!
Years ago the area was “shady” as hell!! You didn’t walk around at night. We used to play there in the 90’s and stayed in the tower. I went last month to play some vp, little nostalgic, coin machines. El Cortez is where I hit my first $1 vp royal flush! I’ll never forget!
That looks pretty good. Thanks for the heads up! Two comments: 1. Ironic that they are called "cabana suites" and there's no pool. 😀 2. Unless that TV is more than 10 years old, it's definitely not a plasma. It's LED. 😝
@@JacobslifeinVegas Pretty sure the shuttle only goes to the airport (Monday through Saturday), but does not pick you up from the airport. Always stay at the EC, including the Cabana Suites now and then (but usually the Tower).
For a really long time, the El C was my go-to for cheap stays, but then I got tied into MGM Rewards and it always made more sense to stay on the strip, especially considering I travel with family and the Cortez' 21-plus policy kind of removed the possibility of staying there. That said, I support their choice; there should be adult only options for lodging. Should I ever find myself there alone, you bet I'd go back, it's a great casino and if you like downtown, it's really hard to beat.
I love the slow motion shot of the people on the street walking backwards!! Thanks for letting us know about this place! I have vacation coming up and a birthday!!! yippee!
No pool is a deal breaker for me but good as a recommendation if someone (that doesn't care about a pool) ask about a cheap downtown hotel that's nice.
Jacob, nice review of room, and property. I realized you're repeating what they are calling a Suite, but that is a hotel Room. Any other suite would be much larger, most are double the normal room size, and by square footage, that appears to be a normal room size. And resort or amenities fees are just a way to let the properties get their rooms listed at lower rates on different booking sites, these amenities where always included in your room fees back in the 80s and early 90s until these fees started appearing, and parking was always free, until the big boys realized, if folks are willing to now pay resort fees, let's charge for parking when you come here also. Just more nickel and diming, with more 0s behind it. At least the locals casinos don't hit you up to park and loose money in the machines. That said, the Room is nicely done, and the hotel seems very clean, and the extra security measures, being close too the shadow lands, is definitely a nice touch! Keep up the good work, always enjoy the videos and reviews.
I don't know if I'll ever stay at a downtown hotel, but I just wanted to say that I really liked your video. The organization, filming, explanations, direction - it's all done so professionally. You really have a talent for commentaries, you make it seem effortless. You describe details and facts so well! Keep up the amazing videos!
Interesting fact, the Cabana Suites building used to be called the Ogden House. The first floor hallway of the Ogden House was used to film the death scene of Sharon Stone's character in the Scorsese classic Casino. There's a ton of Vegas history at the El Cortez. I used to see the late, great, Tony Hsieh at the Parlour Bar plenty of times. He would sit at the corner of the bar, surrounded by his Zappos coworkers. He had a mohawk for a while, so you couldn't miss him. Zappos headquarters is located right across the street from the Cortez. It seemed like a lot of Zappos employees hung out at the Cortez back when I stayed there.
Wow the colors in the room they're quite vibrant I see that you had some prime rib there at the Elcortez May I ASK? is the restaurant at the top of the horseshoe still open that's where we used to go for prime rib or JERRYS NUGGET? when I lived there I had to leave the crime was too much.. God bless n stay safe👍🏻🙏🏼
Around 12 - 15 years ago I was working as a barback there when these were being built. The Cabana suites use to be a really ran down apartment building from what I remember and they basically did wonders with the place. Every time I visit Vegas I stay there because it is also right next to the parking lot - so to get in and out is super easy as opposed to strip properties. Another cool feature of the place is since it is located behind El Cortez - it is probably one of the most quite hotels you can get on Freemont.
Formerly the Cabana Suites was known as Ogden House. It was a motel, but probably one of those places that rented by the hour, or by the month. The scene in the movie Casino where Ginger (Sharon Stone) ODs, was filmed in this building.
Thanks for the awesome video man 👍🏽 after watching this video I would definitely stay at the El Cortez cabana suites cool green color to the room. Great downtown location
I was literally there from November 1st-2nd 2022. Got room 6112 downstairs and it looks nothing like this. No sofa, small crammed room with a bed corners id catch myself on from time to time. Didn't get a complimentary book voucher, nor did they mention anything about a boarding pass feature even though we brought up the fact we just traveled in from New Orleans on our way back home. The glass door in the shower didn't even close all the way.
Stayed at El cortez last trip in September. Stayed 2 days there before 4 days at Delano. I dig it. Cool to have old vegas and new vegas same trip. Went there once a year ago, gambled a little...but not much. got 3 nights free with perks from an email. Get those players cards! No resort fees, nothing. For a place I was at once. Room was remodeled and awesome. Only complaint was the opposite of your con. You had no view...we had a view of fremont and the strip in the distance which we loved when we got there. At 4am when the windows were still shaking from fremont? Not so much. If I go back, I'll request the crappy view. Cool change from the strip.
El Cortez, I was there last week. Very historic property. I think that's Sweet at the front desk. Siegel's breakfast is luscious, huge. Use the $5 food coupon on the three eggs, sausage, bacon, and pancakes. It will get you through the day of sightseeing, (even if you had decided to give up meat). At the Parlour I met the bartender Eder, and that's where I got my complimentary drink. I will definitely return, though next time I will have to have a pool, nearby. I stayed in Tower, the main building, absolutely beautiful room 714.

Great video, though you should have mentioned at the beginning that the $58 was weekday only and not including resort fee. Also, would have been good to note the weekend price for that same room.
Your definition of a suite is different than mine. That is a room with a sofa and desk.
That's about right.
