I would definitely put the spare on a swing away rear carrier unless classic skinny wheels your ones will be too big for the bonnet . Other things I would do would be classic military style rear bumperettes , possibly painted silver ,with silver rear crossmember and silver painted front bumper . Classic land rover fold down rear and side steps. Series 3 door bottoms and sliding glass tops which you can then remove in the summer when you roll the canvass sides up, or take it off altogether. In addition you can fit old style 90/110 windscreen hinges so you can then fold the windscreen down onto the bonnet !. Classic polished wooden steering wheel too. A silver or mesh grill would then round off a properly retro truck look .
It is looking great! 👌 If you’d gone with bare galvanized capping on the bed and the rear, I’d say leave it without the spare tire to show it off. But since it’s painted and one uniform colour, it looks like something is missing to my eye. Were it mine, I would put the tire carrier back on.
You can use heatshrink on the gear lever to give it that fresh new look. Plus if it gets damaged it’s easy enough to cut the heat shrink off and fit another bit
When tackling the dash: Obviously get vent surrounds. Consider a rev counter. Easy job for a td5, mostly wiring, as u need to tap into the ecu for a signal.
The original colour lights would look great or smoked with the blue would look cool, definitely put the ORE wheel carrier back on, Standard straight front bumper is the way to go, coir matting I like that think about it in the back as well, the steering wheel is a little faded and would look good freshened up black but also a nice wood rimmed would look awesome. good luck with the rest of the build.
I would use hammerite on the gear stick and pedals. No masking or removing and it gives that nice finish after. They do different colours now as well. 👍
Looks great. I suggest bulkhead delete bar…… NAS read LED lights. Definitely refit ORE carrier. Standard bumper. Exmoor Trim bench seats. Keep window blocks original but repainted etc. standard steering wheel 👍👍
@@ScoutTheDefender. As a re think, you could alternatively fit the spare wheel on the bonnet. That would be good too. I agree that the flat back end would look good. But Use NAS led. In my opinion. 😊
I can't see anything on their website but I would give LR Parts a ring for the dashboard fixings as I'm pretty sure they carry fixing kits for that sort of thing.
My dash and binnacle are also messed up - missing fasteners and broken tabs. I recently saw a metal binnacle and binnacle mount from a company called Raptor Engineering that I thought would be a good option.
I would put the spare on the rear wheel carrier but as I understand it, the ORE wheel carrier for the full rear door doesn't work with the half door that you now how installed. Can you retro fit it to work or will you have to get a new ORE wheel carrier for the half door.?
I have had a look and spoken to the guys at ORE - I just need to change the plate that mounts to the door for one specifically designed for a half door
I would definitely want the mudguards. Would the old style Land Rover logo mud guards work for this build? I would also want a spare wheel. Firstly, I think the Land Rover looks better with the spare wheel on. But secondly, and perhaps more importantly, I think the spare wheel has genuine utility - especially on a Land Rover. You don't want to be on the side of the road just because you didn't put the spare wheel on. And everyone driving past making their usual assumptions about why you are "broken down". Nah, not having that. Not on my watch, anyway!
Spare wheel on the rear, weight on member. Anything else (on rear door or bonnet) will fail. Noooo! Do not body-color headlight surround, looks wrong. Good idea to paint mirror backings, use black color. Splash out on proper rust protection , Fluidfilm, wax oil or similar. You never aid what the intended use for the car: Long or short journeys? On- or offroad?? Kinda defines what mods you will be advised on. Consider: Wheels: Gearing, revs and noise. Noise proofing: Maybe not so valid for an open top. Get relays for the headlight current flowing not trough dashboard. Is it kept in a garage or not? Is theft a concern? If so, consider security upgrades. Bulkhead removal for better cabin space. Nice video and camera work, well done.

Thanks! You make a good point about breaking up the panels now that they are painted

What about the new defender white wheels. That would look awesome. Or even standard steel wheels in white....
Looks great! I’d go no rear spare wheel carrier, and I’d keep the clear rear lights as well
Bravo, the beast looks fantastic!
Thanks a lot!
Wheel on Bonnet. NAS Rear steps.

Nice idea! That's a job for this weekend sorted

Thanks! Some great suggestions there!

Also, resto is looking great!

Yeah I’ve seen these too - look like a good solution to all the tabs being broken and cracked, I’ll have to look into it
Wooden steering wheel for sure, and a silver mesh grill
put the spare wheel on the bonnet! that would look sick
Looking great so far. Lovely colour matching. Remind us how much you paid for the base vehicle before mods?
Thank you! I purchased the car for £10k
Go back with coloured lights and put the wheel carrier back on
Definitely keen to go back with coloured lights

Good to know. I thought it was more complicated than that.
looking good i would put spare wheel on carrier if your putting steel wheels on choice is up to you all the best
Liking the idea of steels!

I’ve just sent a message on instagram about the LED lights, 90’s looking great!

MMMMM, I'd rethink the inward-facing rear bench seats and opt for two forward-facing and actually usable seats. My opinion...
Yes, put ORE rear tire carrier. You should have a spare tire,so....
Yep, I think it’ll be going back on
