    The reason that fairy is weak against steal is because it was generally believed back in medieval Europe that fairies hated anything made of iron (iron being the primary component of steel). I don't know why that was considered the case but it's an interesting little piece of lore that comes up every now and again in even the modern age.

    Fun fact: Dragon/Fairy is the only type combination to have been /lost/. It was only ever used for Mega Altaria, but with the removal of Mega Evolution as a mechanic, there are currently no Dragon/Fairy pokemon. Which is a shame, because it's a combo that could lead to some really interesting designs.
    (Technically there are other unique type combos not currently in SV, but they're all either 1) regular pokemon who'll probably reappear down the line, or 2) regional forms, so still part of a mechanic that's pretty clearly sticking around for now. There's also a Pokestar studios enemy who I'm not counting because that's not a /pokemon/.)

    For number 18, I always thought Bug>Dark made sense for 2 reasons:
    1: Bugs uses their antennas to sense their surroundings so many bugs that work in the dark who are nocturnal made a lot of sense to me.
    2: Dark type is considered "Evil type" in Japan. Let's say a person comes across an ant hill or a bee's nest and tries to destroy their home following them succeeding it. What happens? Well...the bugs retaliate and attack the person they rightfully view as an enemy.

    13:03 I actually have an interesting theory for this one cause, if you look at the type matchups for steel, it has 3 weaknesses, and 4 types damage it normally, *everything* else is resisted by it. This makes me think that not only were the types it was weak to taken into account, but also the types that damage it normally. Water erodes steel, ghost just straight up fly through it, and electric travels through it. None of these matchups actually deal damage to steel itself but it is able to bypass it's defensive capabilities. It's a pretty interesting typing all together!

    • @permberd4185
      @permberd4185 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Although for those of you wondering about dark type this one could actually be several reasons. One is that dark is more, special based or taken more literally, like darkness seeps through or something like that. One thing I like to think of it though is that while steel types do everything to maximize their defense, dark types (the most commonly seen evil types) play dirty and attack the blind spots of whatever steel type they're attacking. Like a steel coated knight having blind spots in their armor that you could exploit, or like bringing a screwdriver to a robot fight. I don't know if this is the actual reason but if it is it's pretty cool.

    I think the reason why bug is super effective against dark comes from the idea that dark type is just evil psychic type. And steel taking neutral damage to electric is terrible, but arguing for it would mean I'd fight to make empolion even less viable, and I can't do that.

    • @jasonreed7522
      @jasonreed7522 ปีที่แล้ว

      The typing of the Sinnoh starters creats a lot of weirdness.
      Such as Empoleon taking neutral damage from both other starter's main types but 2x from their secondaries.
      Torterra can hit both other starters for 2x but doesn't actually resist the water starter. (Especially since as a bird Empoleon gets peck & drill peck to hit Torterra for 2x)
      And Infernape is 2x weak to both other starters and can hit them both for 2x.
      This weird type matchup is almost like if they were all part dragon type to break the normal "rock, paper, scissors" of the starters.

    • @natecgames4612

    • @danielleanderson6371
      @danielleanderson6371 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      IIRC pure, distilled water doesn't actually conduct electricity very well-please verify this before trying any weird science experiments-and it's actually dissolved minerals and such that allow it to conduct. Since our bathtubs don't dispense pure, distilled water, there's still a risk of electrocution if a blow dryer or something falls in. The point being, some waters conduct electricity better than other waters.
      Honestly the whole conduction argument is a little strange, since Normal isn't weak to Electric, and pretty much any normal animal can conduct electricity perfectly well. I think the real reason is that if lightning strikes a pond or something, pretty much all the fish in it will die, but if lightning strikes a pole, the pole will probably be fine, though something like a computer would be toast. There could be an argument for both weakness and resistance or even immunity, so they went with neutral damage.

  • @gengarzilla1685

    Bug may have many flaws, but those Ground and Fighting resists are lowkey way valuable. We've seen from the Bug/Steel combo that Bug works very well in tandem with something resistant to Rock. What I'd like see is a strong Bug/Ground type Pokémon, as it's the only pairing of Bug with a Rock resist that doesn't create a double weakness.
    Also, Flygon shouldn't be Bug/Dragon. Yanmega is a far more suitable candidate by being a prehistoric dragonfly _and_ it wouldn't be hardcore nerfed by the type change like Flygon would. Because you'd have to be stupid to pick Bug over Ground.

    On the other hand, most Steel-type Pokémon (especially Steelix, Skarmory, and Magneton in Gen 2) are actually made of metal, so ideally they would not be damaged by electricity. Some moves are already sound-based moves.
      "Being sound-based has the following effects:
      Pokémon with the Soundproof Ability are unaffected by other Pokémon's sound-based moves, except Heal Bell in Generation V.
      Pokémon affected by Throat Chop cannot use sound-based moves for two turns.
      Sound-based moves used by a Pokémon with Liquid Voice become Water-type moves.
      Sound-based moves used by a Pokémon with Punk Rock are boosted by 30%. Pokémon with Punk Rock also take half damage from sound-based moves.
      If a Pokémon holding a Throat Spray uses a sound-based move, the Throat Spray is consumed and boosts the holder's Special Attack by one stage.
      While not a necessary property of sound-based moves, from Generation VI onward, all sound-based moves (except Howl) can hit Pokémon behind a substitute regardless of the substitute."

    It's funny how Bug is one of the worst types to be but if a pokemon has a 4X weakness to bug, their chance of getting used in competitive singles gets tanked lol

    13:00 I remember reading somewhere that Bug beats Dark because in Japan, many superheroes resemble bugs. Stuff like Super Sentai or Kamen Rider.
