I know I am way down the list of comments, but again you go right to my heart. Damn...St Micheals? Before Miss Molly it was a charter trip with my brother (now passed from cancer), his wife, and my ex-wife. What an experience we had. Left St. M on a pea soup foggy morning to cross the bay to our Sat night docking. this was before AIS, before nice Nav screens. I had to navigate dead reckoning and man, when you hear that fog horn blast from a ship you cannot see as you cross the channel...it was not a relaxing crossing. Side note, my brother Jonathan and I bought a 28 ft gentleman's Skipjack, wooden, with the idea we would fix her up and sail her to parts unknown. Reality and life changed those plans, but I fell in love with Skipjacks and had a hell of a respect for Oysterman of Chesapeake Bay. Watching this I want to go back in time and ... and savor that time with my brother even more. Thanks again..your journey has helped me relive mine.
As always, a very informative video. Thanks for all your efforts in showing us the lifestyle you have chosen. Enjoy the oysters. I'm all smiles after this one.
Wow ! Beautiful views of the Chesapeake. So good to see that you hung around after the boat show... and this must be quite current with the leaves changing. It was just 70° a couple days ago here in Annapolis and the leaves were peak! Terrific tour of that beautiful yacht being built. Congratulations on punching your new yacht into shape! She looks ready for anything. Cheers!
Love seeing you guys in and near my home waters. Annapolis and St. Michaels are special places, each with their unique charm. Cheers from the South River!
I lived along the South River many years ago on a farm called, oddly enough, South River Farm. I think the county bought the property, razed the farmhouse, and turned it into a park of some sort (called South River Farm(s) Park 😎). It's just to the southeast of Edgewater, and the property included Mayo Point. I had a small sailboat at the time and enjoyed many hours on the water. I agree with you - these are very special places. Maybe we were neighbors!
@@billvs6505 Hi neighbor! There are a few parks on the Mayo peninsula. South River Farms Park is the one accessible from inside the Loch Haven neighborhood, and I'm guessing the place where the farmhouse was is now where they have a county building where they store a bunch of equipment. The entrance makes you wonder if you're even in the right place, but you walk down a long path and you eventually end up on a rise looking back to the community marina, or if you press on there's a tiny beach with a huge view of the river and Turkey Point. Maybe that's Mayo Point? The path there wraps around a small inlet that you can get a kayak into if the tide is high enough (or if you don't mind getting your ankles wet). It's a nice peaceful escape from the large waves and wake you often get on the river proper.
@@CT112380 Yes - that's the spot! Lived there for a couple or 3 years in the late 70s early 80s til I moved to Colorado. I do miss that area and the Chesapeake Bay. I'd love to walk the land again. There were actually 3 houses on the property at one point, and coming home up the long driveway after work was like going on vacation. Thanks for the reply - hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
Thanks for your video. Very interesting these moments of history, it makes known beautiful places and their naval history. Thanks and have a great week.
Really interesting and riveting primer on the Chesapeake Bay! Have to check out more sometime, road trip! I have been bored and worked on my oyster shucking skills. Salem, MA.
Thanks for a very informative video. I love visiting St. Michael’s and the Chesapeake Bay on my way sailing North in the spring and South in the fall. I’m enjoying your cruising. Wow! So much fun. following you.
that had great educational content about the bay and oyster fishing of the past. I grew up in the shrimping community of Lafitte La. it also has a great past, being named for the pirate Jean Lafitte.
Absolutely fascinating… So many interesting places with amazing people in the Unites States to visit, just added another one to my Someday list… Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Hey, Washington NC. That is my old stomping ground. You sailed by Belhaven, NC and that is where I was raised. I pulled crab pots on the Pamlico River. NICE...
Watched your latest video before this one but from that video I realized how comfortable you have both become and are now quite seasoned and experienced on the water. Submarines, Battleships, Jet Fighters, Tug Boats and of course the dreaded Crab & Lobster pots all over the place. But they seem not to phase you at all! I would be freaking out to say the least. LOL, 😆 🤣.
That was really interesting, thank you for sharing. I enjoy the direction your videos have been going when you explore the maritime areas of the east coast.
I woke up this morning and saw we had another episode of Sailing Project Atticus! I grabbed my Sailing Project Atticus coffee mug, filled it with some hot coffee and settled in for the episode! Thanks again for another excellent Saturday morning! As always much love and Godspeed from Pismo Beach California!
Come on....Walter Cronkite with his crisp phrasing about...Oyster boats? Masterful video here!!! So respectful of this amazing area and its history. Loved the drone shots too!! So enjoying your stories each week.
It’s like going home to me. I grew up in Virginia and spent almost every weekend between Annapolis, Saint Michael’s, the west river, Thomas point light, etc. sure beats freezing in Michigan.
Today, I just want to compliment you too, for your fine filming. Also the tour of shore tour, talking to the builders of fine boats impresses the hell out of me.
Beautiful video and beautiful couple. I love following your adventures. I went back and started watching from the beginning and it gives me a whole new appreciation of what you've both accomplished. Hugs! 😊❤🌏☀️⛵
Everytime I see a TH-camr near a wooden boat under construction I expect a Sailing Tally Ho joke....I'm Desiree...I'm a sailor and Im on a mission to rebuild and restore this classic sailing yacht
We went on a tour of HMS Victory in Portsmouth Navel Dockyards UK. During the tour we went through the upper gallery of the hold and noted the tonnes of gravel used as ballast in the bottom of the ship, below the cargoes and stores consignments down there. We were told that working in the hold was one of the most dangerous jobs, especially when at sea. For example in rough weather or when the captain ordered a change of course and ballast, cargo and stores had to be repositioned. Heavy, dangerous work in semi darkness, low light conditions. For me it was the most interesting part of what was in every department an excellent tour.
Makes me wish I'd stopped there. Again we were on the same wind! Through the Kent narrows and around to little choptank for me when I was there. ☺️ Sailing with dogs is tough, but I love the rewards!
Great HD video images from the hand held and drone camera. Good story telling with a New England theme, a, beginning middle and and end. . That 3rd order undamaged "Made in France" Fresnel lens is priceless. What was not said was that its beams were engineered in such a way as to provided a skipper with a distance measurement from shore. During the switch over to remote control lights the Coast Guard used to just dump these very expensive hand made lights (some 8-ft tall) with precision brass gears rotation mechanism into the ocean before people found to and started the lighthouse conservation society. His five Atticus 2.
Great episode guys. Desiree you are going to be a fabulous mom. You showed a loving side of you this week that was nice to see. You guys are probably in my neck of the woods as I write this. My boat is on Clubfoot Creek. One creek over from Adams Creek (the ICW) on the Neuse River. I wish I could sail past you guys and say hello
The eastern coast is certainly stunning as your excellent drone footages shows. I do pause them and take a good look around, awesome! The diversity of the Canadian and U.S. east coast is uniquely stunning and diverse. From the massive icebergs off Newfoundland & Labrador down south to the stifling tropical heat of Florida to the southern most tip of Texas. I dare say we have the most unique combined coastlines in the world. Then there is the very different but second to none west coast of our great countries that would take another lifetime or more to explore. You both make it look easy, I know it's not. Thank you for all your very hard work by bringing to our attention the beauty, the diverse culture(s) of the eastern coastline, it's majesty and of a proud history of the East Coasters of the U.S.A. Captain Oso, I know some very good lawyers...lol... Have a great week U3!
I purchased a Allied Seawind MK11 based on your experiences on Atticus. I hope you will stop at West Marine Ft Lauderdale where I work. Your travels have gotten me as close as possible to my future adventures
Glad to see you are exploring Chesapeake Bay. It is a wonderful cruising ground, and if you don't go aground in the Bay you're not really exploring it. I lived aboard an Alden schooner for 15 years and sailed the Bay every year. I miss it! Thank you for sharing your life with us.
Wow really exceptional content this week! I live in the DC area and its nice to see things from different perspectives! Its awesome to see people so passionate about light houses, ship building, rigging, etc. Glad we still have people like this!
That's the funny thing you two and me call the Chesapeake bay a nice day this time of year, but my marina has a few bundled up people walking around in parkas looking at me like I'm crazy in 40 degree weather and a t shirt. They must be from the Caribbean, lol.
Well it looks like St. Michaels just made the list of places I want to see! I love fall leaves changing colors, mix that with what appears to be beautiful sailing on the Chesapeake, wow! Also anytime there is rich local history and a museum to dork out over I’m hooked!
Wow. What an incredible episode. Who knew? We are in VA. Our vessel is in Mathews County near Gwynns island. You guys are right in our backyard practically. Cheers y’all.
St. Michaels is the quite essential baymans town. The marina where my dad has his boat back in the 1980's had a bugeye. Seeing that boat under sail was quite astonishing. Here it is today, Desiree and Jordan can sail their boat. That bugeye literally needed a 5-8 person crew! If you ever get the chance, Crisfield, Cambridge and Kent Narrows (among others) are neat places to see on the bay as well! Safe journeys Atticus!

Oh man. I always enjoy yalls videos, but these history tours. *Chefs kiss*
Really first rate video production. I need to add St. Michaels to my list to visit.
We moved away from Maryland in 2004 and I will always miss it. I LOVED St. Michaels!
Oh gosh, you are in my backyard. I hope you were made to feel welcome and thank you for highlighting our history. Love you two (+ puppy)

The Chesapeake area is super amazing 👏 😍 🙌.
Awesome episode. The ship building is very cool. Years ago a friend in our glass factory asked me ( I was a Machinist Moldmaker ) if I could make him a pully out of wood and bend some metal to make it look like one off a ship. His wife wanted to suspend a plant from it. It turned out really good. We felt we could make anything back in the day! Well all bragging aside, nice work you two. Always fun. Great episode. But sometimes, as an audience, we forget to say the positives. So here goes: This episode made my simple little Samsung TU7000 55 inch look better than usual. In other words, the lighting on this episode was perfect. The contrast and clarity. No overblown highlights and the blacks were simply magical. Not crushed or muddy, the editing of this episode truly shows. Great job. Have y'all shared what video/camera systems you are using. They were spot on this time around. Thanks.

I giggled looking at your pup's expression... Holy moly he's cute
Great video. Beautiful place.
Super cool guys! Really well done and informative.
Thank you
Very interesting, love that you guys get into the maritime history of various locations. I keep away from the videos that are simply “We are Sailing and We are Drinking” Yeah, I live on my boat so I see enough of that, I like your style. See you on the water…. Maybe. S/V Ploto
that museum was pretty cool! Love that history!!
I am excited about you guys sailing
Thank’s great job about my home town👍👍👍
Superb video content. Nice to see the preservation of the cottage style light house and the wooden sailing ship. Very interesting and educational. Lots of history. You did a fine job grooming Oso (AKA Taco Bell) 🤗. Cheers and safe sails 👍🇺🇸😎...
As usual, this went by too quickly. Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce this video. I don't know how, but you raise the bar every time you upload. Fair winds and following seas!
Enjoying your travels. You hit a nerve with the autopilot warning point. I was sailing in the Sea of Cortez a couple of years ago and as I came into a small port my AIS triggered a warning on a GPS that I was using for sonar only. At the time I was one manning my boat. The warning completely covered the screen and there was no obvious way to stop it. This unfortunately was one factor that led to damage to my dagger board. The AIS warning was triggered by nearby Mexican Navy boats that were docked. My point is that the equipment manufacturers need to come up with a different way of warning that doesn't completely block the screens.
Good to see you today
Jordan, you getting grey bud. Great video as always.
The weekly history lesson should be considered successful. This episode made me miss the Chesapeake so much. I wish for a hot bowl of she-crab soup and a roll of sourdough. Thanks for sharing your adventures guys.
Hey guys. I love your videos. If in your way to the Caribbean you decide to stop in Puerto Rico, I would like to meet you guys. Keep sailing!!! Be safe!!!
To cool guys , thanks for the history lesson 😀
A wonderful episode and insight into a lovely area and interesting history.
Well done you two plus the little captain.
