- This week we head to the boatyard to FINALLY tackle our last handful of projects that we need to complete before heading offshore and back to warmer weather! As most boat projects go, we encounter some hiccups, but we’re ready to put in the work now so that we can have a fully outfitted boat that’s comfortable and that we can rely on once we cast the lines and sail beyond the horizon!

I love you guys ❤️ my husband talked to you guys during a live once and you are just as amazing, kind and sweet off camera as you all are on camera. Your channel is wholesome and good just like the two of you. Thank you
Y'all do such a great job with your videos. I always enjoy watching them.
Loved the distillery tour. Your "guide" was really engaging and clearly passionate about his craft.
Yes that was a real experience.
Vodka is for people who don't know how much better gin is. I envy you on your birthday. Happy Birthday and smooth sailing.
"Water on the threads can make it harder to turn" lol, I needed to laugh today thanks. Pick yourself up a nice 1/2"-3/4" breaker bar and some good impact sockets it will be alot easier in the future. Also a good trick is a pipe wrench or large vice grips with thick cloth or rubber strap to protect the propshaft from the pipe wrench/vise grip jaws. Otherwise the teeth on the pipe wrench/vise grips will gouge the shaft.Using the wood puts all the twist on the puller and can make it come loose and take bites out of the hub.
I've never seen a six foot, four inch, Inch Worm! Thanks for sharing ❤️
Love that you guys are taking the time to explore and share the local areas you’re visiting! Been following you guys for a while, and the quality of these videos has grown so much. Thank you for sharing your experiences, and keep up the great work!
Talk about the power of suggestion! I'm watching you peel the oranges and I suddenly start smelling oranges!!
Happy Birthday! Thanks for remembering Cleary's pond. going skating there today.
Hi guys. You should have a prussic knot on separate security anti fall kind of a pain but less painful than a sudden crunch. Easy knot. Fun video always happy. Sue the survey guy
Two tips on pulling prop , 1) lube the puller threads 2) Percussion - a sharp rap with a hammer
Loved the propeller pull.....I have one on my 42' Beneteau and have never dismantled it in the ten years I've owned the boat. I've always been reluctant to dismantle it given the setting has worked great and I don't want to screw it up. But your video makes it look simple. I have greased it during my pulls every two years and it continues to work great. The end zinc seems to fall off no matter what I've done to secure it; however, I have two torpedo shaft zincs that protect it from electrolysis.
Greetings from the Puget Sound. Get the grease kit and anode kit from PYI while you’re at it. Everything you need to keep a Maxprop happy. Good folks there.
That was a great video. You've really increased your subscription members since I subscribed and started watching. You were at about 23K and I liked the chanel instantly. So happy to see you doing so well. Interesting Gin tour. HAPPY BIRTHDAY🥂🎂🤗!!!
Best of luck with projects
Happy 😊 belated birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁. Boat repairs have started again. Glad everything is being repaired prior to taking longer trips. You should sail ⛵ around and continue to participate in business tours. Love ❤ how 🤔 you participated in the business gin making process. Hope you didn't consume too much. SHARED 📹.
Yea you guys seemed to have found a new niche with the small town video segment. I love it. I really want to visit Washington now. I live about an hour away and plan to visit the Hackney. I want to mention one other thing. The both of you have become total "Naturals" in front of a camera. You make video presentation look so easy and I know it's NOT. I can't explain it because I'm not in the business but from what I see with everything you cover, you are so comfortable, articulate, professional and knowledgeable. I really enjoy watching your content. I have watched you guys grow while traveling far away and funny..... at this time, you are right down the road from Goldsboro. I find your coverage of Washington very interesting. Keep it up please.
Great episode people the video quality and the smoothness of the music and commentary are class👍🏼👍🏼. Happy birthday Desiree you looked fab on your birthday, but between you and me the Jordan guy needs to scrub up a bit for these occasions 😉😉. Don’t tell him that though. Keep the great content coming. 🇮🇪🍀☘️🇮🇪🍀☘️
Happy Birthday!!1
Captain Osso is so cute. Loved this video. Thanks for the update.😎
Happy Birthday!!!! (Belated, of course...) 😎🎣🎣🎣
Hi Desiree and Jordan,
You are such an unbelievable couple. It's been such a great journey following you on your sailing trips. We are so inspired by you both! It was an honor to be part of your video and to meet you both in person in Annapolis! We look forward to meeting on the water someday, hopefully sooner than later. We hope Des had a wonderful birthday too! It looked like fun. Heidi & Franny.
Jordan, Desiree is stealing the humor aspect of this 'BOTE' show! She is gettin' good at it!
I stopped for a week in Lil' Washington once and sure missed some of the things you've hi-lighted there. I enjoyed the walks down the street and looking over the older homes that have been well-maintained or restored. I like that. I had one in New Bern while I was there in days gone by.
Did you ask the distillery if they make a Shirley Temple version of that stuff? With all those herbs and "botanicals" in it, it could be very healthful! Alcohol kills brain cells and we seniors can't afford to lose any more of those.
So Pacific Seacraft doesn't have its own boat yard!? Where do they launch their new 61' footer?
Absolutley , love watching you two. I am at a marina on the ICW in FL and another You tuber is on my dock, Lazy Gecko and I understand what you guys are all about and cant thank you enough for sharing. we cruise when we want but your adventures over the years are truly appreciated. thanks.
Good to see some more project videos. Glad to see you’ve discovered Harbor Freight. Loved the gin making. Always learn something new watching your videos. Keep up the great work (on the boat and on the videos).
Guys, your videography and editing is near broadcast quality. Excellent work, as always.
Happy Birthday Lady Desiree Many happy returns....
yep thats how I go up the mast solo, but, I have an extra ascender on a separate line as a safety, with the bosuns chair someone can spend a long time aloft unlike a harness which cuts off circulation
So excited, Just received my Skylight inn BBQ sauce. Going to make some peach smoked ribs. You guys come on over to enjoy. God Bless
Happy Birthday! I'm glad you both finally made it to South Eastern NC. I know it is small but it has its own little southern charms. I hope everyone treated you well. I still can't believe you made it all the way to McCotter's and little Washington. This is where my sailing dreams started. One day, I will be heading to the Bahamas too. Y'all be safe. Even the little dude.
So glad you guys are still in town! Hope it's an energizing time in Little Washington as you prepare for the big journey! What a joy meeting you Sunday a week ago! And I will echo the belated happy birthday! Hackney is GREAT place to celebrate!
Avid fan, enjoy the two of you, honest and fresh, Happy birthday Desiree, Keep safe and waiting for the next episode.
Hope you had a great Birthday. You are such nice folks. All the best in life.
Jason
happy birthday, and you guys never fail to make a good boating video. God be with you and family as well.
Hats off to you two. I'm also doing a re-fit on a Bristol 45.5 over in Oriental. Not that far away. But unlike yourselves I bailed in mid-December for the warmth of Florida. I guess that is the difference between being in your 30s and in your 70s. Plan on being back soon.
I had a max prop on my Hans Christian 48T, Bravura, for 32 years. You have to keep a keen eye on the zinc. We found during the 14 years we were in the Caribbean the water temp made a bit difference. Stock some spares. The difference in performance is worth every dollar.
Your videos are great fun. Enjoy the new boat; you picked a good one. PS. Try and stay warm.
Think your gonna shed that "10 pounds" you found on the scale with all the labor your pushing through. Nice to see the expert sailing mechanic you have become disassembling components again! I love watching you explain and demonstrate. You do make it look easy and your organizational approach is epic! Happy Bday Des
@@pauleohl Im guessing you missed the joke about him complaining about the extra 10 pounds he saw on the scale. It's always the scales fault.
A belated Happy Birthday. Looks like it was a great birthday.
Thanks for the great visit 😀!
Happy belated birthday 🎂! Fun watching the gin making and the mast prep to come off. This is the first year I left mine up. Good call on removing the gear on the top of the mast. Cheers!
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Hey had a great time at Mccotters. That’s where I put my boat in. Say hi to all the guy’s for me.
I'm in that yard with you, opposite corner of the paint shed. Great place to do some work.
Another great episode! You had maintenance, toured the town, did a show and tell of crafting local gin, and reinforced what a “team” truly is.. Also just looked up your local weather, which I know you have been keeping an eye on. Gale force winds and just nasty! Keep your eye on the prize….. Warm ocean breeze, blue water, Caribbean here we come! As always have fun stay safe, see you next week! Also this time stay warm😊!
There's a forecast low of 9°F next Monday morning. Winterize your engine, genset, head, freshwater system, everything, this week! The cold won't last long, but will do a lot of damage if you're not prepared.
Buddy looked great! Great video for Washington NC. I like that shot at 5:26 of my best friend!
Looks like you guys will be all set to cruise when this haul-out is accomplished. Totally loved the Hackney Distillery segment. Fabulous ‼️ ✨ 🌊💨⛵️🏝👙🌞🧋🍸✨
Oooh! We saw you walk past our house in Washington. Great video, fun to watch and the 1000 Piers Gin is the pride of our town! McCotter's Marina and more, we loved watching this. Good luck on your travels.
Guys, LOVE the tours you guys do... (the boat stuff is awesome without saying) but to show these local businesses and towns...really showcases the love you two have for local experiences. Keep them coming!
How cool, you're in my neck of the woods!
When you use a gear puller lube the threads, position it straight, tighten it, if it doesnt come off ...give the item a shock blow to break any stiction, it often works far better than just adding more tension that can strip the treads or pull the legs loose. ... Same if some things over tight or corroded.
Jim the Gin had a English accent but had obviously lived in the US for a quite a few years.🙂
@@pauleohl
I did see that ... I should have also said...
If you cannot knock the center tensioning screw . You use a piece of hardwood and hit the collar each side in the direction of the pull.. had to do it a lot with steering head bearings on bike forks where getting any gear/bearing puller on is near impossible. The other way is to use a bearing removal fork wedge... But you need one thats the right size and your striking it on from the side not good for bearings seals and glass hulls if it gets gnarly better then to apply a little localised heat and quench it with release oils.
Happy belated bday Desiree!! Finally got a chance to catch up. Loved the tour, looking forward to this weeks !!
Perfect mixture as always from you guys. Boat, sailing, location and happy Birthday Beautiful girl! So glad you were able to enjoy it in my home state!
Love Desiree's answer when Jordan ask her if she had a good birthday (two fisted)!! Priceless HAPPY BIRTHDAY DESIREE🐶🐶🐶🐶
Those drinks look very refreshing. I don't know that I've ever tasted a really good gin that one looks like top shelf. Thank you for the video.
nice balance of moving the boat, working on the boat, and interesting visit in town.
Happy Birthday Buddy!
Nice video! High quality video. Thanks !
You two are such a joy to watch keep it up guys and I will keep watching
You are dancing on an entirely different level. A world class production. Fantastic work!
Happy late birthday Mrs Bud! Love the tour of the distillery. Very interesting.
Dang! That went by quickly. Keep 'em coming. Thanks.
Happy belated Birthday Desire
That explains why gin tastes so good. It's vodka with a ton of botanicals. Excellent video.
Great episode! Awesome distillery tour! Nice job on popping that prop! 👍👍⛵⛵⚒️⚒️💪💪🥂🥂
ok if ya can't watch boat repairs making Gin was interesting as well. My HF puller was of no use on my fixed pitch prop as nothing to grab on to effectively - Had to make a plate style puller one using a pair of Grainger 3/4 inch threaded pipe steel Gas Flanges, a pipe plug and three 8 inch Grade 8 bolts from Tractor Supply. Worked like a champ and cost much less than the Walter Machine Plate puller for props.
Happy Birthday✌💜
I recently repowered, and added a PYI Maxprop easy and dripless shaft seal. Love them both, even though together they were the same price as the new engine. Sailing spead increased by 10-15%. Amazingly easy to install and adjust blade angle compared to the old versions, install nearly the same as a standard prop, to adjust blade pitch simply remove a locking screw and change the forward or reverse pin, easy to do in the water in 10 minutes. I played with the prop pitch for several trips until I got the sweet spot of just a hint of black smoke from the exhaust at max rpm. Now sailing and motoring are both sweeter. I see a lot of the channels using folding props rather than the max feathering style, but I have noticed several of them pulling for repairs while most of my friends with max props report no work other than annual lube jobs and zinc replacemnts.
I trust we're going to see some solar installation in an upcoming video?
Cheers
Belated Happy Birthday Desiree! keep safe and take care guys. big LOVE from me to both of you. More vlogs to come and safe journey with Atticus and Captain Oso. God Bless.
Happy birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈
Happy belated 🎂 birthday 🎉 ! I enjoyed the tour of the distillery… thank you. All of those ingredients really resonated with me… I’ll be contacting them to order a case.
Maintaining zincs is boating 101. That propeller was neglected. Like someone else pointed out, the corrosion could have been accelerated by a problem with your electrical system. You should do a potential survey around your hull in the water. Good luck!
Another wonderful video! I was drawn to your channel for the sailing aspects, but am enthralled by every episode's unique look at your whole living experience, not just on the boat, but in the ports you visit and people you meet...Absolutely beautiful productions, you both should be so proud of what you have accomplished and the enjoyment you bring all of us land-locked sailing wanna-be's...Thank you!
Happy Birthday Desiree!
I have the same max prop. Quoted $2700 for rebuild or $3200 for new. I decided on a fixed-pitch Campbell prop as we never race and don't care about the .5 to 1-knot speed loss.
Happy Birthday (belated) Lady
Happy belated birthday Desiree. Have not drank gin in quite awhile . May have to try out again.
Best thing about Saturday mornings.... hot cup of coffee and the Buds.
Great video. I’m officially impressed by any sailor that goes up the mast.
Greetings from Anchorage Alaska!
Love the fact you found McCotter's Landing.
I've wanted to visit for decades.
Now through your journey I can.
Your fan from the Greatland, Michael McCotter. 😂
Happy birthday!!🎂
Happy Birthday..
great stuff
G'day Buds, firstly, what an absolutely amazing video. Incredible content and wonderful editing. Your videos tell such an amazing story. The content isn't strictly just sailing, necessarily; it's the way you include such wonderful info about local history, businesses, and people, that make your videos so addictive to watch! The boat looks beautiful, even on the hard. Sailing Project Atticus is easily, my favourite sailing channel on YT. Good luck on the hard, completing your final repairs or refits, before your passage south to the Caribbean. Cheers from WA 🇦🇺.
Absolutely superb production! Thank you.
not a failure Day 1 a commitment by the manufacturer to refurbish 9/10 ths. of the propeller removed a tool bought. Happy belated birthday Desirae.
I boat my first boat on the boat yard next to McCortters. Washington NC is a little hard to find stuff for boats.
Love you guys.
Separating taper fit shafts, like propeller if often a pain. We use taper fits on our 4000 hp engines to hold various parts together. The most fascinating is the crank to flywheel. To do this we have a port to pump oil into that actually expands the metal until it literally jumps off the shaft. To assemble we use oil to expand and then another pump to push the part onto the tapered shaft by an exact distance and then release the oil used to expand. All parts are reusable by this process. Cleanliness is important and surface texture is considered better with a little sandpaper scuffing.
Does this answer your question? Brilliant!
I can only imagine that sinking feeling when you first saw that corrosion on the prop, hopefully it all worked out ok!
Another great video.
I love it. You guys are so close to home for me! Appreciate the Carolinas for me while I'm too far North.
"HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY Desiree!!" You obviously had a good time drinking in the sites of old time small business coastal America. All that icy coating over everything, just scrap it off into your favourite glass, think of it as free shaved ice for your drinks. So awesome, have a great week...
VERY Cool Video reminded me of Friends here in Oregon that own a Distillery 🥰🥰
Happy birthday Desiree! Will definitely check out this gin!
Informative video! Love the Gin distillery 😎 Happy Birthday!🎂
Just so you know Jared, water can not stop a threaded rod from turning. Not unless you leave it in the weather long enough for it to corrode.
Happy birthday (belated) Desiree! You Buds like gin?! Well, you are even more endearing ❤️. Little Washington is on the list to stop in when we are in that part of the world. Thanks for sharing your boat life with us!
It was an amazing video. Thank you so much
Happy Birthday Desiree. Dude, using your wife's birthday as an excuse to get her liquored up is brilliant. Thanks for that idea. ;^)
Really enjoyed this episode.
I hope your both well.
Happy belated birthday by the way. My Saturday is now complete. 😁
There should be a notice to mariners of bridge maintenance and scheduled closing
