I have to agree. Virtually anyone can make a 20 foot car (meaning one that looks good on camera from 20 feet away). But making something that's _actually_ good - and works as it should - is a whole 'nother thing. :-D
@@aussiebloke609 "... and works as it should ..." this one's supposed to work as a ralley car I reckon, hence all those preparations to keep things as accessible and repairable as possible. The ... screwability of the engine with a completely removeable hood'n fenders for example ... I'd like to have that on every car I have to work on. And thats something different to riveting an ABS fenderkit on for a 5 pixel camera.
Binky is intended primarily as a road car, not rally. (Although with Nik's proclivities, you never know what might happen later.) That's why there's provision for a roll cage, but only as "future-proofing."

It is actually starting to look like a car! And as we know, the last 20% of finishing take generally 80% of the time, so I expect the car to be done around... 2038?
On one hand, I can't wait to see this car done. On the other, watching every little bit and piece come together and get properly fitted is so satisfying, I never want it to end.
I noticed this new episode while the wife had the kids out of the house, they came home about 5 minutes from the end. My 9 year old daughter who caught me watching about episode 17 or so and binged it all to catch up now wants to watch instead of going to bed. I think you have another fan.
That's how to get them interested, catch 'em young! I was helping my Dad work on our old Mini estate (*not* a woodie, but one with the classic design front and Clubman estate-style steel panels!) when I was barely tall enough to see out the windscreen when told to sit in the driver's seat and actuate switches/pedals for testing purposes.
My oh my! Stumbled across this, and have just binge watched all the episodes. Gents, you've produced the funniest, best produced, and most inspiring car build/fabrication series I've ever seen! Hats off to you. You've given me so much inspiration for my build, and made me rethink the whole ethos of the process, damn you!!! The most ingenious solution so far, for me, is the alternator/ac compressor flexi drive intermediate shaft type thingy arrangement, genius. "Make the noise........"
Binge-watching the entire series for probably the third time this year - still amazed at what you two can do in your shed, you are incredible engineers and designers. This car is probably going to end up as 25% mini 40% celica 5% MG and 30% hand-made by the time you are done.

Guys I'm off work sick at the moment . I watched all of the series so far in one day and WOW! great stuff . ( I've restored an MGB and in the middle of a T3 camper) love all the technical stuff , the one liners and puns. Keep it up . PS. What happened to your tea boy? He looked a bit long for the mini.
Damn you! I found the Binky series yesterday (Death's horse, oh, I guess it probably will be...) and now I'm considering taking the whole wiring loom out of my kit car and actually rebuilding the whole thing to fit properly... Good call on the "clam shell" lighting connectors. I think I may go that way myself!
What a way to wake up (in Australia) on New Year's Day "Binky"!!! What's not to love about this episode? - (tea) cupholders with handle recesses, the correct term used for those grippy things beloved of woodwork teachers, some wonderfully well thought-out design work and usual attention to detail with mini-mal (geddit?) weight. Two questions though: Is your chosen interior finish going to be a leopardskin print, for that 1970s 'blacksploitation' movie look ? Can I buy your old wobbly drill? I have been looking on eBay for one of these and can't find one with the correct amount of wobble anywhere! Great start to 2019.
Aw man... just finished watching all 23 episodes in two days. I do my fair share of fabrication as I'm on a Formula Student team, but the stuff you guys are doing is next level, and I understand why things take so damn long to do. And seeing you guys cut all your sheet metal with a grinder (including some of the triangular lightening holes) makes me realize how incredibly spoiled we are. Nearly every single sheet metal part on our car, all our tabs, aluminium fuel tank flat panels, gussets, etc. (200+ parts) are all lasercut for free by a sponsor. Our tubular spaceframe chassis, all the tube ends are CNC coped, and any bent tubes pre-bent and shipped to us from VR3 Engineering, so for us it's just a matter of sanding the ends to get rid of the oxidation, tack everything together on the jig, and full-weld. With the scope Project Binky being as big as it is, looking back on all the times you guys have fab'd something, then had to significantly modify it multiple times (for example, the front bulkhead), do you guys reckon that doing a design in CAD (no, not the CAD you guys have been spending so much time on) would have been beneficial? Just thinking ahead here, but one of the big things in Formula Student is that we never start our build before our design is finished, so 95% of the time our build is relatively straight-forward, as everything has been packaged and mounted in the virtual world already. Whereas for example, you guys have had to cut the trans tunnel and add relief areas to package the seats after it was in the car, but had there been actual CAD, the tunnel could have been built and put in the car with the seat cutouts already in it, as it was designed to be there. Anyways, it kinda sucks that I've already caught up with all of the episodes from the start, but I'm definitely here to stay and am looking forward to all future episodes and the finished product!

Good episode gents. Love the cup holders.
The amount of lightweight metals used makes this project an aeroplane, rather than a car. Love it!
deadset you blokes are incredible. A lot of appreciation from a Dad and his son from Down under.
Just as I was about to comment on the white cable ties you mentioned them. Nothing gets past you guys.
Really laughed at the " just long enough to give lacerations" bit haha
The TIG welds synced up with the bars of blues rock... *fingertip kiss*
😀
I definitely wasn't refreshing patreon. Happy new year guys!
Best project series of all time. Incredible workmanship I can barely replace brakes.
Gents, this work is phenomenal, i've enjoyed watching this series so much. great footage, well edited, whitty and just brilliant. i'm looking forward to the next instalment already. if i can get my channel to half the standard of yours i'll be a happy chappy. :)
Thank you.
Thanks for the SOAP TIP, the provided flowery scent helps cover up my coworkers un-necessaries.
Merry Christmas and Happy new year to you both and your family's. It's always a good day when you boys release a new video!
Nik has a plan. Now THAT's a cliffhanger...
Bit rude to leave us with that really.
Baldrick would say; "Master, I have a cunning plan!"
And would that plan be... Cut 2 sodding great holes in the rear parcel shelf. The parcel shelf that took about 15 episodes to get the old ones filled it!!!!
That door trim is fantastic!! Wow. 😁🙌🏼
I enjoy these shows so much that I constantly check the time stamp on the video, getting more and more depressed as I approach the end. Good show fellas.
Me: Laughing hard
Girlfriend: „What‘s up?“
Me: „They made cup holders“
Girlfriend: 🤷🏼♀️
This is more street car than a miata.
It is actually starting to look like a car! And as we know, the last 20% of finishing take generally 80% of the time, so I expect the car to be done around... 2038?
I'm voting for 2042.
We're already in the last 20%... For most people, getting the engine and drivetrain in would have been the 80%!
BaoBou that is optimistic!
BaoBou's Travel 2036 done officially
You know, it has been said that genius and madness are two sides of the same coin.
On one hand, I can't wait to see this car done. On the other, watching every little bit and piece come together and get properly fitted is so satisfying, I never want it to end.
I hate when these videos end, I wish they were twice as long!! Can’t wait for the next one, keep it up lads!!!
So what are you doing in jan 1st.., Watching the most fantastic car building show on YT.
It is good to read of new blood interested in cars! Fewer youths are into cars these days.
🍻 happy new year guys n gals @ Bad Obsession MS 🍻
I've never seen so much effort put into making a floor console, and I therefor wholly approve of every aspect of this build!
Thanks Tony
The purple fun fur will really tie it all together.
Shagpile everywhere, including the roof lining... It _is_ a '60s car, after all!*
*OK, it was introduced in '59, but close enough.
Fare thee well, Drill Wobble.... you shall be missed.
Umm probably not.
That wobble is horrible, I'd rather see it gone earlier.
For all of ten minutes until the new one was bought up to speed.
Now when they select a hole saw they won’t need to add 5mm for wobble.
Is your old wobbly drill for sale?
I've been looking everywhere for one with the right amount of wobble, without success.
Binge-watching the entire series for probably the third time this year - still amazed at what you two can do in your shed, you are incredible engineers and designers. This car is probably going to end up as 25% mini 40% celica 5% MG and 30% hand-made by the time you are done.
The workmanship continues to blow my mind. This Mini is turning into something very, very special. I can't wait to see what comes next.
You're going to need LLoyds of London to insure this thing, eh?
Such an awesome channel!!!!! Best fabrication skills I have ever seen!! Great work guys!!!
Yet another Great funny and entertaining video guys. It's great to see Blinky finally looking lie He/She/It is coming together, although I won,t be at all surprised if it all comes apart again in order to re-make another bracket to hang an air freshener on? Thanks for a Great Year guys, and I look forward to what 2019 may bring? Happy New Year to you both.
Wouw! You are brilliant in all departments: Designing the car, doing the work, filming and making the video. This is greatly entertaining. Thanks for sharing!
A bit of the old in/out ! Superleggera console, tig, mig, blues, funk, tea and biscuits! Perfect Friday viewing. Chapeau!
Yessss lads! Great way to end the year!
Or in my case, great way too start the year. 😄
Those mug holders though.........
Fantastic as always guys but I have a one question.......Will Binky turn a gt4 powered wheel on it's own in 2019??.......here's hoping......have a great new year lads!!🍻
I'm literally speechless, thats so amazing! I love you guys!
I have just watched the whole series. The CAD work alone is impressive.
Christmas came twice this year!
Tune in next time, when Nik decides to fit a second engine for more Power.
dont give him ideas, unless its the next project, a twin engine hillclimb car binkys brother.
Guys I'm off work sick at the moment . I watched all of the series so far in one day and WOW! great stuff . ( I've restored an MGB and in the middle of a T3 camper)
love all the technical stuff , the one liners and puns. Keep it up .
PS. What happened to your tea boy?
He looked a bit long for the mini.
Every time I think it's your final video I see how much more work you guys have and I can't wait to see it
Two questions though:
Is your chosen interior finish going to be a leopardskin print, for that 1970s 'blacksploitation' movie look ?
Can I buy your old wobbly drill? I have been looking on eBay for one of these and can't find one with the correct amount of wobble anywhere!
Great start to 2019.
Ask Turbo Yoda whether Old Cock still has his old wobbly drill going spare...
Don't worry, as I'm certain that you could find a wobbly pedestal-drill on eBay here in Oz!
@@MrWombatty Precisely. Get a cheap-arse one made in China, run it for a few hours, hey presto, wobbly drill.
@@woopimagpie Probably don't need to even run for a while as it's sure to be wobbly brand new!
@@MrWombatty True that. Bearings? What are they? LOL
That Micra door plastic was either genuis planning, or amazing luck.
Like the Lexus tailshaft :)
I think their beyond genious so much so that government scientists have yet to crack their level of intelligence
They went back in time and suggested the alterations to the Micra during its face lift. After the Lexus drive shaft, it's the only plausible answer.
For real, I thought they ment they were the right stuff once cut up, or modified... How the hell do they do it?!
@@philrod1 they must of borrowed Old Tony's lathe, his new one looks sort of portable. 😄
I just dropped everything to go watch this :P
Aw man... just finished watching all 23 episodes in two days.
This is THE BEST CAR BUILD SHOW on TH-cam right now. Why the hell didn't i find your channel earlier???
