    Thank you for talking about the horrendous 'church growth' movement. For those who may not know, I'd like to point to the 'Church of Tares' documentary. It was what opened my eyes to rampant apostacy, just after God saved me. Bill Hybels and Willow Creek are also examined, as well as Rick Warren and Saddleback.

    I grew up in this church. Funny how I’m the children’s ministry (“Promiseland” as it was called) they did NOT shy away from preaching hellfire and brimstone. They had me CONVINCED that Sin was legitimately an acronym for “Stepping in Noose” while the parents got the Seeker Sensitive sermon. Man, what a wacky and specific High Demand Religion.

      There is so much good that was done by Willow Creek to paint in very broad strokes.
      This is lazy criticism of one of the most influential churches in American Christianity.
      There is much to critique and certainly criticize, but this is just typical drive by criticism that doesn't actually weigh the good with the bad.
      Pastor Bill Hybels, sadly, made many mistakes, but God used him also very mightily.

    • @EternalVisionToday
      @EternalVisionToday 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you went to Willow Creek there is much to be grateful for how God used this entire congregation a wonderful community of faith to touch millions around the globe.
      All the same, we can reflect on the breakdown in accountability that caused mayhem in such a way that women (and people) who experienced abuse and inappropriate treatment must be accounted for and some of that has been done in this life.

    Wow thanks for the video. I'm just now learning about Willow Creek. And recently I have been talking with people online about Unbelievers, Seekers, Believers, and Disciples. It never occurred to me that the word Seeker has been corrupted by this Willow Creek church. People must be thinking that I advocate for their definition of a Seeker group.
    It seems there "free" Seeker service is not there to point them to Christ but to explore their "feelings". Any Seeker group needs close supervision to point them to Christ. Otherwise, it can lead to untold amounts of "man-made" doctrines. I pray for the people in this church but hand over their leaders to the evil one. That they may see the error of their ways [as Paul instructs].

    The 'idol shepherd' that leaves the flock...
    Zechariah 11:17a
    "Woe to the idol shepherd that leaves the flock!"
    Who is the 'idol shepherd' that leaves the flock in Zechariah 11:15-17?
    The text in the entire book of Zechariah is primarily on God's judgement in the latter days.
    The topic in Zechariah 11:15-17 is the 'foolish shepherd' (verse 15) who is also described as the 'idol shepherd who leaves the flock' (verse 17).
    In the book of Zechariah, the word 'shepherd' first appears in Zechariah 10:2, and last appears in Zechariah 13:7.
    The English word 'idol(s)' has been translated from several Hebrew words. In some Bible text the word 'idol' is a noun, and is defined as a physical object of worship (adoration), which may be either in public space or in a private space such as a home. However, in other Bible texts the word 'idol' is an adjective (i.e. a word that 'describes' the 'characteristics' of the noun).
    In Zechariah 11:17, the word 'idol' (Strong's #H457), Hebrew: אליל ('ĕlîyl), is an adjective (i.e. a word that 'describes' the 'characteristics' of the noun). Therefore, in Zechariah 11:17, the word 'idol' (adjective) describes the characteristics of the shepherd (noun).
    In Zechariah 11:17, the word 'idol' (Strong's #H457), Hebrew: אליל ('ĕlîyl), is an adjective, and is defined: good for nothing; of nought; of no value; thing of nought; worthless; by analogy vain.
    Therefore, in Zechariah 11:17 the term 'idol shepherd' refers to a 'good for nothing shepherd' and in the New Testament context, it refers to a church leader (bishop, elder, pastor) who is good for nothing!
    Zechariah 11:15 infers that in the New Testament context, the 'shepherds' (church leaders, pastors, elders, bishops) will use 'instruments' (figurative of the processes for guiding the members of the church assembly), of a 'foolish' (careless, negligent) 'shepherd' (church leader).
    Zechariah 11:16 states that God will permit 'shepherd' (i.e. church leaders) to rise in the land, who: -
    🔹Will not visit those that is 'cut off' (completely destroyed spiritually);
    🔹Will not seek the young one (babe in Christ);
    🔹Will not heal those who are broken spiritually;
    🔹Will not 'feed' (sustain with the Bread of Life; i.e. Christ) those who 'stand still' (i.e. have fainted spiritually);
    🔹Will 'eat' (consume) the 'flesh' (living body) of the 'fat' (abundance), and will tear their claws in pieces.
    Zechariah 11:17 states that: -
    🔹Woe (i.e. trouble) will befall the 'idol' (good for nothing) 'shepherd' (church leader) who 'leaves' (abandons, neglects) the 'flock' (members of the church).
    🔹The 'sword' (figurative of God's destructive judgement by His word) will be upon the 'arm' (strength) of the 'good for nothing' church leader, and upon his right eye (figurative of spiritual understanding).
    🔹God will cause the arm (strength) of the 'idol shepherd' (good for nothing church leader) to be 'clean dried up' (rendered lifeless), and his 'right eye' (primary mental and spiritual faculties) will be utterly darkened (infers no spiritual understanding).
    The 'idol' (good for nothing) 'shepherd' (church leader) in Zechariah 11:15-17, is depicted as the unjust steward in Luke 16:1-15.
    In the parable of the unjust steward, in order to remain 'esteemed' (popular) to the sinful people (depicted as debtors) who owe a 'debt' (obligation to follow God), the unjust steward reduced their 'debt' to God. This is likened to a church leader who relaxes God's requirements for holiness of the members of the church assembly by teaching them that less than 100% of their debt to God is acceptable. (Luke 16:1-15)
    In Luke 16:8 the word 'wisely' is used in the context of natural intellect that is superior to that of the 'children of light' (i.e. followers of Christ who generally are of ordinary or average intellect).
    Notice also that the motive of the unjust steward is 'mammon' (the wealth of this world).
    Both the 'idol' (good for nothing) 'shepherd' (church leader) in Zechariah 11:15-17, and the unjust steward in Luke 16:1-15, meet a tragic end.

  • @PETERJOHN101
    @PETERJOHN101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The real solution, dear brother, is to follow the pattern Jesus laid down for us. Doing so will cut across both camps -- the 'easy package' so-called Seeker crowd and the hyper-preachy types usually seen in street preaching.
    It is the Holy Spirit that convicts of sin, note that Jesus himself never once recited the carnal sins of the crowd -- only the sins of unbelief and religious hypocrisy.
    Even when rebuking the mob that brought the adulteress before him, Jesus' handwriting in the sand was silently delivered. The only exception to this was the woman at the well, but notice she initiated the conversation and Jesus only brought up her multiple marriages in private.
    All extremes can be unfruitful, and while we have too many lukewarm (or false) believers in positions of ministry today, we have just as many wannabe's pretending to be the apostle Paul and using his letters out of context.
    Rather than quoting Paul for the purpose of exhortation as his letters were intended, they use them as if they were written to unbelievers outside the Church.
    Too much focus on sins of the flesh actually works against the Holy Spirit's ability to convict during a proper delivery of the Gospel.
    We should preach what the Bible says not by reciting each and every word to every audience, but by following the Lord's example and not conflating his approach to sinners with Paul's' admonishments to fellow believers.
    There is far too much milk in the modern Church and far too little adherence to the Word of God, which explains why the words of Jesus are so rarely quoted, or his example followed.

    Let's be honest..."love" is not "tolerant" of all behavior. Merely tolerating anything is not love, it is apathy. No parent can claim to "love" a child they do not discipline, teach, and oversee maturity for. In fact, parental love is "tough love" which sets boundaries and insists on compliance so that the child can learn and grow. This is God's love..."tough love". Also, in spite of how much one may love their children, the limits to acceptable behavior often requires discipline or even punishment. A loving God who did not discipline, did not punish, is also a God that does not reward. If the reward for success is the same as the punishment for failure, what is the point?

      I believe the merchandise identifies with this channel and beliefs. Most hymns and Psalms identify with sound theology, repentance and holiness. Most (NOT ALL) CCM seems to emphasize feelings, weak if not erroneous theology and produced from an entertainment perspective more so than repentance and godliness. Nevertheless I do tolerate some of the entertainment aspects but solely for entertaining purpose and never acknowledging it to be true WORSHIP. It’s kinda like viewing these videos but never considering it a substitute for actual church involvement and fellowship.

      As someone who grew up in church with those “boring” hymns, then was saved in college when hymns were considered fuddy duddy in favor of more contemporary songs. I have attended many different denominations in various states and cities, with various music styles. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to appreciate the depth of the hymns, the theology, the truth about God, the worship, that is missing in the emotion-driven lyrics of modern church “worship” that are often all about me, actually. I’m back to where I started…but they’re NOT boring!!!! Lol!

    No celebrity pastors like John McARthur? Oh wait he is not one right? Willow Creek was wrong but not heretical.
    I do disagree with the quote from McArthur in your video. Maybe I would not in context but I do as it is quoted in this video. The problem is pitting a human decision for Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit to regenerate man. Both are true. You have to make a decision for Jesus. That is everywhere in the Bible. But the Bible also teaches that the Holy Spirit must regenerate us before we can choose to place our faith in Jesus. I know that is reformed theology and not Arminisnism. But the way McArthur put the problem is a problem itself. It is not man's choice vs. the Holy Spirit's regeneration. It is man's choice without regeneration that is the issue. Can man choose without a full heart change or being made fully alive. No., they cannot. But regeneration by the Holy Spirit does not mean man does not make a choice.
    I do not like treating an in house argument like it is between a Christian and non believer. WE need to speak the truth in love.

    Critical thinking would bring an and to the endless shades of gray poo flinging accusations we see in this video. Everyone claims to have a better mind meld with the supernatural dictator they subscribe to. Yet all are too humble to take credit for this gift.
    It's tiresome and insincere and will likely continue until evolution weans out the fear of death and propensity to be nosey from our species.
