PTR02-30101 is what I fitted to mine - it only said it was for the 350 and 460 (RWD) but it also fitted my 430. If you’ve got a RWD 350 that part should fit fine.
I finally got her on the road. Flex z mid setting f sport sways front and rear. Stays flatter than my e39 but is still lacking. Nose heavy, no surprise here. I think if the GS chassis can be stiffen it will help a lot. Even with more sway and less torque, the e39 still holds its own as a daily. Not a bad bench mark. I think I need to weigh these two cars when I get a chance.
@@MikeMacful Well I did it! I'm kind of mad the F-Sport sway bars aren't the stock configuration because the car is better now in every conceivable way, including comfort from not flopping around. Best money I've ever spent.
Sway bars make very little difference to the jounce and rebound of a suspension (vertical movement). They only work to counteract roll, which is always a good thing. It’s the one change you can make to your car that has virtually no drawbacks, and you know the F Sport kit, being engineered by Lexus for your car, will be correct.
Hello Mike! Me again. I just realized a gigantic problem (to me) from the new V8 mid-sized sedans: the utter lack of handbrakes!!!! As a person that likes the spirited drive, I believe its a necessity. Are you considering this when building your car? Do you think its worth the insurance paperwork to redo the brake system to allow hydrolic handbraking? Thanks for any insight. I cant believe it took this long for me to realize!
It’s a weird one, isn’t it! Seems to be a Lexus thing. I plan to leave mine alone, as you’d have to hack the dash about to get a ‘proper’ H/B in there. You could try a Lexus SC one, as it sits to one side of the console, but it’ll still be a pain to get looking ‘right’. TBH most modern cars are electronic now anyway… Plus you can install a clutch pedal with the foot brake still in place so that’s not an issue either.
Mike!! thx for sharing these experiences with us, much appreciated. I wish you all the best mate, I’m a fan and I’m learning a lot form you ! I don’t know if this bars fit my Gs300 RWD?
Thank you and to answer the Q, I’m not sure - while the body and suspension are the same, the engine layout and shape are different, so it’d be quite risky, although the kit I bought was for a GS350, not a 430, so theoretically it could work for a 300 too…
I have a GS460 with the AVS adjustable suspension (hard/soft settings for the 4 struts all the way around). I really love how supple the ride is when going straight, and I always put it in sport suspension mode when entering corners. Would an anti-roll sway bar allow me to keep my soft suspension while still making for flatter cornering?
460’s are a great car, pity there’s only about 10 in the UK (IIRC). On your sway bars, I think that the AVS system also has adjustable bars too, as well as the struts, in which case you would lose that adjustability if you replaced them (May also result in a fault light, but I think that’s unlikely, as mine didn’t when I swapped the struts out. However, I still think it’s worth considering, as it’ll have almost no wider (negative) effect on the ride if you put firmer bars on there, but you’ll have the permanent benefit of less roll (that’s assuming, if you have adjustable bars, that their firm setting isn’t firmer than the aftermarket ones (if you see what I mean…).
If you haven't done this yet, do it. It makes the vehicle even MORE comfortable because the reduced body motion doesn't toss you around. Very little loss of bump compliance in a straight line either. 100% worth it. I have a GS430 with AVS.
@@dawnpoint Crazy seeing you here ahaahah just saw your intake mod, planning on doing it soon on my 430 aswell, i assume you did the sway bar mod, did you get any lights because of the avs system or all good ? want to do it to mine aswell, even tho the sport mode makes the car stiffer i notice HUGE body roll if I swerve
Great info! I'm in the middle of restoring a new to me 06 GS430. I thought the flex z would be enough but you've convinced me to add the sways. Another couple of weeks until I can get her back on the road. Question: What damper setting are you running with the f sport sways?
They do make a big difference! I’m currently on setting 2 all around after a lot of testing - it’s relatively firm but still gives a good, compliant ride. Once the bushes are done and bracing fitted I may be able to go a bit softer but that’s for next year. One thing I would suggest is to get the remote damper adjusters Tein offer - would have made testing and adjusting them so much easier! (Other coilovers are also available… :-) ). Good Luck with your project!
Mike, I think the f sport sways are a bit too stiff with the teins. On low speed loading in turns with uneven roads. The car reacts like a solid axle vehicle. Weight transferring diagonally. Does your car exhibit this same behavior? I will eventually swap the oe bars back in and test.
I wouldn’t say I’ve noticed anything like that - the only issue I still have is a slight wander when driving, which is bushes; no issues cornering that I’ve seen. How firm have you set the Teins?
great vid ill tell u what I've only had mine a couple weeks it Rained the first day I took a turn a bit fast and it felt like it wasn't gonna grip for a second but I was out tonight it was raining and I was flying and no. sign of anything like that now of course I feel the body roll your talking about and eventually I would like to put the bigger sway bars on but I have to say it rides like a dream. I would agree with it being a very intelligent old mans luxury car, because if u treat these things right they are gonna run a long long time, ive rarely seen to many stories like yours and u said it was for the most part your fault which takes a lot of balls to admit I admire that it could happen to the best of us I know I have turned great cars into basically junk just by thinking I knew what I was getting into didn't research anything this was when I was a kid I am using. that as an example I am not at all saying that was what happened in your case.If u don't mind me asking what is your day job because you are obviously very mechanically inclined your talking about engineering parts and all kinds of other stuff is the reason I ask no biggie if u don't want to say but I can't thank u enough for making these it was like u were reading my mind
Glad it was useful - these cars do respond well to (sensible) suspension mods and the next thing I’ll be tackling (not right now, though) is bushes. In terms of where I learned about cars? I just started tinkering in my own time one day and then kept on tackling bigger and bigger jobs as time passed (and toolkit got bigger). Always having older, more temperamental, cars helped with that, plus a dislike of letting Main Dealers charge loads for stuff I could do myself. Even with my mistake, I dread to think what it’d have cost at a dealership! This engine was definitely far more than I’d ever even considered taking on, but I’m glad I did as I’ve learned a massive amount from it (and all the subsequent fault-finding).
Interesting, I have a 2006 GS300 with 120k miles on it and the suspension feels tight and firm to the point I'd actually like it a bit softer and as far as I know nothing has been done to it previously.
That is interesting, although this upgrade is more about body roll, opposed to how the suspension rides over bumps (IYSWIM). However my suspension was quite baggy and certainly not ‘firm’ at 130k when I got it. Is yours on 18” wheels? Apparently they do make the ride a bit more ‘crashy’ apparently.
@@MikeMacful Yes it's on the standard 18" wheels. Even on softer compound tyres (Michelin Cross Climates) it still feels very planted and stable. It also doesn't have much body roll, for an exec car anyway. For comparison my friends 2011 5 series M Sport is definitely firmer but this isn't far off that. FYI I got the Cross Climates to stop the tramlining I was getting on sports tyres and it totally resolved that :-)
@@MikeMacful I'd love to go back to an LS again but the LS460 is a long way off the LS400's reliability and costs way more to run. Not sure what I'll get next, Lexus adopted black interiors and dropped sunroofs as standard which are both things I want so there's only a handful with that spec for sale. Any ideas or are you keeping the GS for a while?
Ouch! I’ve had quite a lot of experience shipping things from US with my mustang resto and it’s always painful. Luckily the bars were only about £60, though.

Interesting - thanks for letting me know. Agree that the GS could be a lot stiffer - I notice a fair bit of flex now that other things are sorted too.
My 3GS430 has a clunky sway bar end link... Looks like the only rational option is to replace it all with F-Sport bars.
Definitely a very worthwhile upgrade!! 😉

I was thinking of installing these for my GS450H. But I am concerned that it would spoil the ride comfort and introduce bumpiness into ride.
