    Never understood why Lexus did that. The GS is the sports version of the IS. Yet they gave the IS the paddles and not the GS…

      @@squirrel_ca9745 🤣 It stands for Grand Sedan. Some importers used the term Grand Sport instead. The suspension on the IS is a lot stiffer than on the GS, which indicates the IS is the sports model, not the GS. Not only that, but the GS is way too much of a boat to be a sport car. I can tell because I have driven these cars myself. Check wikipedia if you don't believe me.

    Great vid, considering doing it on my GS430 if I ever get around to it. By the way (Depending on if the IS250's were sold with Adaptive Cruise in the UK), you might be able to find an IS steering wheel with the cruise distance button on the steering wheel!

      They definitely did have the ACC on some IS250s in the UK…I think it was the only an option on SE-L spec. It’s just an additional button on the right button cluster.

    • @MikeMacful
      @MikeMacful  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StewRoberts thanks - it’d need to be double checked what wires correspond to ACC between the GS and IS, but I’d imagine the paddles would remain the same - and IIRC the wire next to them was ACC, so if there is the right button in the wheel and the wiring is the same (no reason it isn’t) it should all work!

    Hi
    I just bought my gs300 2008 model recently as far as I am aware of the history they haven’t changed the transmission fluid and filter it’s done about 105000 miles now. Do you reckon should I change it ? Some say it’s lifetime and no need a change
    What’s your concern please?
    Thanks in advance

    • @MikeMacful
      @MikeMacful  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All fluids get dirty and need changed. ‘Lifetime’ fluid is no different - ‘Lifetime’ of the manufacturers warranty is maybe more accurate!
      I’d always change fluid and filter at least every 100k but bear in mind you only get 2 liters or so out from the pan and there’s still another 6-8 (ish) in the box.
      I’ve just done my IS250’s fluid (foul!) and did four drain-fill-run-drain cycles before dropping the sump, replacing the filter and then doing a final fill and level check. That made sure nearly all the old fluid is out. Doing a drain and fill every 500 miles or so four times would also work reasonably well.
      If not changed the ‘box will start to shift harshly and glitch eventually, a bit of maintenance in good time is far cheaper if you plan on keeping the car any length of time.

      @@N9olan there’s no mounting point on the IS wheel for the ACC button, and the paddles use one of the ACC pin outs IIRC so it’s not simple unfortunately. Using an IS convertible wheel (some of which apparently had ACC and paddles) May be an option, though.

      You could look at the connectors to at least make sure they’re still the same form, but really you’d have to plug it in and see…
      As it’s from a different generation, though, it’s probable that changes will have been made and it likely won’t ‘talk’ to the control module.
