Just did this procedure on both sides for a Pontiac Bonneville. Thanks for posting this video. I couldn't have done it without your help. This job definitely takes less than an hour to complete.
@@aristarry3616 no problems at all. I have an 05 model too if that helps you. Make sure you wear eye protection because there is plenty of debris under there.
Terrific video, and I love the dry humor - "I can see through my tires, so I'm not worried about the alignment." That's funny stuff. Thanks for making this job look a *lot* simpler than I had imagined!
Thnx so much for posting this vid. It’s the only one I found when I searched for a how-to vid for replacing the pair on my inherited 05 LeSabre Limited.. The other side (passenger side) was a bit more time consuming because the gas tank is more in the way and I was hoping I wouldn’t have to take it to a mechanic to drop the tank as some blogs suggest. I kept at it and managed to back up the camber bolt far enough to take out the old trailing arm and replace it with a new one. Thnx again!
For anyone struggling getting the arm bolts in or out past the back of the gas tank, take a breaker bar and loosen the two bolts holding the subframe to the bottom of the car. It drops the bracket down about an inch and gives you plenty of room to move the bolts around.
I was wondering if this was possible. But to clarify, are you saying that by lowering that inch it shouldn't put a concerning amount of strain on the exhaust pipes? If that's the case, it would definitely be a time saver
I just did this job on my 04 park avenue. I was only able to take the camber bolts out by loosening the two 18mm rear subframe bolts which dropped the subframe down just enough to give me the space I needed to get the bolts past the gas tank. With that said you have to support the vehicle on the body, so the subframe will drop a bit. Pretty easy job
Where would you recommend supporting with my stands? I want to try it this way because 1) the method in the following video isn't that easy/practical unless you have a garage and a lift: th-cam.com/video/NOrWONJn4A4/w-d-xo.html And 2) I just looked and wondered if slowly lowering those subframe bolts a bit would give enough room (looks like I only need 3/4 to an inch).
oh and btw...before you disassemble the links at the body with the bolt and washer, take a paint marker and outline it..as a witness mark..then you can put it back spot on..;)
I plan on doing this job to my 04 Bonneville and looks to be exactly the same. My question is would be easier to take off or lower that bracket. Thanks for the video.
good job..and i have 2 comments..one i was told at a shop that you had to lower the whole rear suspension cradle to do the lateral arms..you proved that incorrect..and secondly, when you look at the factory arms, they do not have any adjustment on the tie rod end..the replacements i have do..they are threaded on and the ball joint has a grease fitting. my point of this is if the factory links dont have any adjustment--dont let a shop charge you for a 4 wheel "wheel alignment" cuz they dont adjust anything on the rears..just charge you for nothing!
So alignment shops can adjust the rear camber angle.Which from what I have read has a good amount of affect on the drive thrust of the car.Which in turn affects front axle steering angles.Im know expert, just a DIYer
Thank You this video actually helped finish changing a whole H frame that was rusted where the outside control arm goes. IHad to from everything. But for the bar had nuts I took off
When you say "H frame" did you mean the rear suspension subframe crossmember? I'm looking for definitive info on R & R of this part. Videos / reading go from basic to very complicated steps depending on the source. Mine is so rusted I may need all replacement bolts. This video and the comments section make this job seem not so complicated. Thanks if you can help.
I am replacing my lateral links on my 2001 Century. I hope it is similar to your LeSabre. The Haynes manual directions says the suspension cross member must be lowered for access to the inner arms bolts & nuts. It says to use a transmission jack and I don't have one. I am not sure where to place such a jack anyways. I hope I can switch them out nearly as easy as you did. Thank you for posting this
So glad you made this video, as many before me have already mentioned.Going to b changing mine out on a 04 Deville.Definitely more confident in doing the job knowing the exhaust doesnt have to removed.Let alone the subframe.Great video!
I need a rear control arm for my 2003 LeSabre. GM has discontinued and after an extensive search online, I can't find any aftermarket arm or bushings. I did find an acceptable one at the you pull it junk yard.
Can add shocks to the list too. 😆 REMEMBER, PB BLAST is your friend for bolts and nuts. Jack up the control arm a bit when installing the ball joint end, don't use a hammer if it doesn't align and go in. You could damage threads. You need to point the camera at what you're working on.
How in the hell did you get behind by the gas tank....im doing this job as we speak and just learned theres adjustment plates on both sides.... How tge hell dud you get a socket or wrench behind thete
The video was helpful, but it would have been better if your camera wasn't trained on one spot. I could hear you working, but I couldn't see what you were doing.
hey boss for the last two or three videos you have this hair hanging down in front of the screen on your camera kind of bugs after a while maybe you could pull the damn thing off of there and fix it thanks.

@@mynamehappy Yeah I think you'd have recalled an issue with the exhaust if something had broken.

The new bar definitely looks longer than the old one ,did that create a problem with alignment ?

ZeeboLaywicker he didn't do the other side. that's the bitch.
I believe thoe bolts removed are camber bolts.Rotating them adjusts the tire camber angle negative and positive.

Was the bushing assembly that fits onto the ball come already attached and part of the Lateral Link or did you have to buy it separately?

Thank you for you videos! I just need 2 more years on my Le Sabre, of course this is the fourth time I've said that...
Anyone know what part number the alignment bolts are? Shop says mine are rounded out inside so they cant adjust them
I'm having issues finding the rear control arms for my 05 buick. Any ideas where I could find them or the bushings?
2000-2005 have the same bushings but no mention of changing them after 2002--so order the 2002 bushings from about any where --rockauto has them

My brother in law thought cars only had front brakes. No joke!

I did tierods and alignment already but not this job yet. One thing was bad they said something about 4 hour alignment and 700 dollars
u get the $20 ebay one?
No I ended up just going to the part store so I could have it right away.
Watch out when you punch the bolt toward the gas tank. There is hardly any space there.
this is why I couldn't get mine out!!!!
Can anyone tell me what those bushing are called at 2:00?

Get the ungreasable ones. No need for anything else really. It'll probably out last the car.
Y ou didn't tighten the upper bolt with the washer and adust it in and out which i needed to see
In a future video, could you get a better picture of where I need to jack up the rear of my 2000 Bonneville?
Google "2000 bonneville jack point" and go to images. There are some good pictures for the jack points on your car

prob need outer tie rod ends next
