How dare you say such things about the ADV dads! For your information, I drove through some leaves that were scattered in front of my driveway yesterday. I would have commented earlier but the wifi was down at starbux.
Man if you're enjoying life you're ahead of most out there! I'm a mid 30s sport bike atgatt new rider who likes speed but staying alive is a priority. I don't think I was covered in this video, but it was good!
ride the bike you like man. If you enjoy it, you have the right motorcycle. It’s your money. You don’t have to justify it to other people by taking it off the road.
Never been to a coffee shop and I do drive 5 miles down a dirt road on my way to work.. but not gonna lie I bought the biggest panniers and gps I could fit on my Himalayan and full matching riding gear lol.. I look like I’m gonna travel the world but I’m just going 30 miles down the highway to work lol.
Yammie.. it's been about 4 years since I first started watching your channel and I'll be 31 on August 18th. Things would come up like fear, and money issues and whatever else life throws at you. This year the Stars aligned and I got my life on track .I just want to say you gave me the courage and motivation to get my license and I'm a proud owner of a Ninja 500 SE as of yesterday. Thank you so much! I also want to say it's not in Kawasaki green and I'm sorry but the red and black does look nice.
I love the 2000's naked bike look, i ride a 2000 bandit 600 s, but with the fairings removed (the frame is straight and not curved under the seat). I absolutely love the look and feel of these bikes. Just comfortable enough to use for longer trips, but still not too upright to prevent fun. Just the definition of a universal motorcycle. Only thing Yam got wrong is the gear. I would never cheap out on that. If I'm gonna wear it to protect me, i want to know it works. I'd much rather spend twice as much for quality gear. It saved my skin more than once.
Used to be an Ambiguous Naked Rider, but I'm quite happy now as an ADV Dad. I never head for trails as that's not my thing but they are just SO comfortable to ride, which means I go out and ride more often. Which is all that matters.
I’m totally a middle-aged ADV rider. And while I do use my bike as it was intended…it was indeed intended as much for independent pour over single origin coffee shops.
I am a Harley guy (98 Road King Police) and I love it. I've owned everything from adventure bikes to 80's muscle bikes and everything in between. My preference will always be a big displacement cruiser. I know people tend to complain about the weight and size of a Harley but on a windy day or passing a big truck I'm glad I have that weight. I'll always enjoy acting foolish on a sport bike or dual sport but as far as every day, on a big cruiser is where I want to be. Great video as always Yam
I got my compass tattoo in 2003. I rode a 919 naked bike for a while. Now I have an ADV but live in Bankhead National Forrest and ride about as much gravel as asphalt.
When the designer Sportster guy was mentioned, the only thought that went through my head was "I've literally never seen one of those being ridden in the wild."
You finally did one for me. I am for sure the ambiguous naked bike guy. I'm on a 2015 FZ1. The Yamaha badges got nixed for carbon fiber, but it's still got the FZ1 on the front fairing. Not that, that means much to anyone. A upside is it's a Gen 2, so I didn't have to get the 3ft long slip-on.
Because the two kinds of riders are the ones who've been down(myself) and the ones who are going to go down. I was actually lucky enough to survive a T-Bone accident by a red light runner when I was 18 and ironically what saved me was my buddy and me taking off on our green light doing wheelies. My buddy was a bike length ahead and was barely missed. Had my front wheel been on the ground I would have ended up underneath the car instead of rolling off the hood and fender. I only ended up with one big swollen calf muscle.
Yammie, Love the video. You roasted pretty much every kind of rider. I’d consider myself a mix of several you mentioned. 90% ATGATT. I ride a semi naked mid level Honda. I ride alone and am painfully cautious. I’ve never been down in 40 years of riding. I sort of like to hang out and talk to bike guys but I can’t relate to squids or H-D guys. Love your videos! Keep up the good work. 👍🏻
i have been riding streetbikes since 1991 and i am a bit of alot of those types. i was "brand loyal" to suzuki for about 30 years. now i ride (and love) my 2019 zx14r. i have been riding with different helmet covers like pikachu, kermit the frog and luigi for years. i wear a full faced helmet, t-shirt, sweat pants and slip-on sneakers.
I wont die on my royal enfield hill. But damn did i get lucky in finding that brand. For the style. Power, and price. It was everything i wanted in my second and current bike
Cursed cafe racer 😁😁😁😁 Not exactly a cafe racer, but in Texas we had a guy in our group that was ALWAYS late because his old springer had broken valve springs, or broken valves, or bad points, or bad jets, or... Everywhere he went, dude basically kept an entire motorcycle's worth of spare parts in his gigantic backpack (not saddle bags) because something *would* break. We kept telling him that with the money he spent on parts he could just buy a new bike. He wouldn't hear it.
Not even sure what category I fit in. I suppose a few of them. I consider myself a Yamaha rider but, have owned a few brands. List of past bikes I've owned in my 45+ years of riding. '73 Yamaha RD250, '75 Yamaha RD350(setup for racing but, with lights), '82 Yamaha SECA 550, '86 Yamaha FZ600(raced at Willow Springs and Riverside Raceway), '88 Yamaha YSR50, '88 Suzuki Katana 600(raced at Willow), '05 BUELL XB12 SCG. Current bikes - '76 Yamaha RD400(in profile pic) & '23 Honda XR150L.
Having started riding in 1986 there are some that may not be around anymore: 1] Your mate. In the UK you can ride at 16 and drive at 17, so if you needed transport for your job you got a 50cc moped [these can look like proper bikes but are restricted in cc and speed]. 2] The mechanic. How did you learn how to look after your bike? Dad or a slightly older rider who would help or invite you around when they were doing a job. I've lapped valves in on a 750 Kawasaki for someone else. Now I'm the older rider who can teach people how to do work on their bikes. 3] The stopper. These ae riders who will ALWAYS stop if they see a bike and rider at the side of the road, to see if they need any help. Not many left these days. I must admit I'm mostly ATGATT, having had to have two stitches in my hand from a 10 mph pushbike 'off' to seven in my knee from a downhill running race where a rock got in the way I choose to be protected. The main exception is when I am leading an off-road experience day for first time trail riders and I swap to trials gloves on the first trail section and keep them on for the road sections, the other is the 50 yd up the road post service or clean to check the bike when I may be wearing jeans and trainers [but with bike jacket, helmet and gloves]. Full armoured kit also mitigated my major accident injuried to three breaks in my right leg, broken right arm and a couple of ribs [with a few internal injuries] instrad of paralysis or death.
you almost exactly described me with the cursed cafe racer except i ride a 1979 harley roadster xls1000 with the AMF engine so its way worse but you will definitely find me at the gas station right before the ride starts with the seat off or something open for last minute fixes before we hit the road
I've seen a couple of those helmet covers... I also admit that I own one myself, but it's a viking, and I only use it when I'm riding my 1978 Honda Trail 90... also I'm 6'3" 300lbs riding a 1978 Honda Trail 90 while wearing a full face helmet with a viking cover on it...

Never seen the cookie monster covers, but did see a vinyl Saw doll. The brand purists are definitely true. Especially among Suzuki riders. Most everyone else says something along the lines of as long as it makes you happy more power to you. That being said most people that ride also have another vehicle to get around if needed, so it's not as big a deal if it isn't ultra reliable.
Way too funny. I have seen most of them. Your description holds true through the years. I have been riding since '73. Yep, I am that old. Be safe friends. 1999 XL1200C Sportster rider. Rooster out
Sory I love my sportster, as for the filter on the side. Thats where they go, thats where the intake is. I’ve been riding since ‘84 when I got a kz 750
What about the guy in the Klim jeans, the armored flannel jacket with the leather vest over it, Shoei Neotech with full coms built in, riding a Honda NM4 sporting the Iron Butt plate backer? Where do you put that guy?
11:40 I legit hate how many MFs I meet like this, who I try to convince, "please spend more time riding than wrenching for your first bike" and they don't listen. They buy a crap bike for $2K, Then realize it costs $10K+ to fully fix, barely ride it, gets a small boo-boo, then says bikes are scary and we're all brainwashed cultists for enjoying it, since they could never enjoy it. Like Project Retro bikes are fine later on in your career, but please don't start on one...
Roosevelt was not only shot and finished his speech... they left the bullet in. The only President that even comes close was Jackson in terms of being an absolute badass.
I border on the 'ambiguous naked' rider. I currently ride a 2018 SV650X: not completely unrecognisable, but definitely not one of the current first-choice nakeds. I was told by someone 20 years younger that it was ridiculous that the SV650 is heavier than an MT-09, and is therefore a poor choice of bike. I don't wear a lot of branded gear. Most of what I have is RST and Oxford (absolutely the most generic brands you can find in the UK) and I mostly avoid anything covered in logos.
Aprilia dealership within 2 hours must be nice, and ONLY two months for parts?! I waited a year and a half for a windshield.... Still on backorder for a single $5 replacement decal that I placed 3 years ago on a 2020 bike.
I see bits and pieces of me throughout. I can be introverted and can certainly come off as the guy that forgot motorcycling is fun While I have had many brands in over almost 40 years of riding the last 20 has been a brand loyalist (I fell in love with telelever suspension) and will sing its praises whenever someone asks. The ADV Riders in front of Starbucks (and yes it is a big BMW GS) - ok I have never been in Starbucks (or in front) nor any other coffee shop - but the aspect of the ADV rider that is not hitting the trails - that is me. In my defense I really make no pretense and have been known to put Conti Road Attacks on my ADV bike. I have always thought of it as a big comfy standard. The Ambiguous Naked Guy - Yeah, I think of my bike more as a naked bike than an ADV. And while I get good quality gear - it is usually used on ebay or from Motorcycle closeouts and nothing matches.
Don't think they are hated , I drove one of those black french ones that the motor is on the front wheel an you lower it down to start an ride forget the name was a long time ago , I rode that to college for years and around town , cost nothing ten cents of gas an root around in the garbage can for oil left in cans people had bought .
On my way home the other day I had a gsxr600 all sticker bombed and a dude in a tank top and shorts wearing converse and no gloves pull up next to me and my head almost popped from laughter
Hey! I got a couple of semi-mentions. A) I'm the guy who slapped almost the buy-price of my bike into mods - just to make it fit my "vision". And B) I'm the ADV guy who don't spend time at Starbucks - I'm far to busy whipping the bejeezus out of gravel loops and scaring myself shitless going sideways through corners. I fucking love my bike - best money ever spent.
You kinda talked about with the last one, but oh boy is there room for 1 more type - the guy living in the city but wearing full racing gear even when doing 5-10 minute trips to work somewhere downtown and wants everyone to think that he's the baddest racer to walk the earth. And then there's the type that never shuts up about riding a bike and makes it their whole personality.
Please, I prefer the term "anonymous" over "ambiguous". Makes me think of the merchant from RE4, but on a bike. It's all I've aspired to be as a rider. Most of the quests I give are fetch-quests.
Yannie your wise and fair in you observations. I do wear some gear. But good grief it's hotter than whitches britches in in a Tee and light colored jeans. The deal for ne was risk a crash or died for heat stroke. Been ridig for 50 years. Fear has really changed and is fantastic, but heat is still a monster. AC gear may become common in the future; in the nean time tee shirts it is.
Never saw him in person but a riding buddy of mine warned me about a kid with a fuzzy red bunny helmet cover - apparently no license or insurance, rode like an asshole. Two days later a reel pops up in my ig feed of a guy in a red fuzzy helmet falling off of his bike at freeway speeds while trying to stand on the seat. I sent it to my buddy - same guy, same bike apparently.

Was in the bike business for 20 years, from retail to Factory. NEVER saw a cookie monster helmet cover😊! ...Or a predator helmet!
What about the guy in the Klim jeans, the armored flannel jacket with the leather vest over it, Shoei Neotech with full coms built in, riding a Honda NM4 sporting the Iron Butt plate backer?
Where do you put that guy?
Great laugh. Thanks!
Hahah the Aprilla dig was at Adobo Moto and ATGATT one was at Motojitsu
Congrats on being a new dad!!
Okay, the Cookie Monster helmets and the like are funny. I don't do it but I ain't even mad about it.
forgot to mention the rider with the 90is gsxr naked build with whatever part could find , is what i was riding :P
Aprilia dealership within 2 hours must be nice, and ONLY two months for parts?! I waited a year and a half for a windshield.... Still on backorder for a single $5 replacement decal that I placed 3 years ago on a 2020 bike.
I didn't forget that it's supposed to be fun. This is just how my smiling face looks.
Have you been to Charlotte, NC? Every kind of rider here, plus the Queen City Barons.
13:00 uncle jerry died as he would have lived, living the american dream..including the deer
Good job on this one papa yams
Dayum im watching a new noob video! Yay! I'm a returner to the 2 wheel world after 25 years!
I see bits and pieces of me throughout.
I can be introverted and can certainly come off as the guy that forgot motorcycling is fun
While I have had many brands in over almost 40 years of riding the last 20 has been a brand loyalist (I fell in love with telelever suspension) and will sing its praises whenever someone asks.
Roosevelt *FACT* he was the one that created the National Parks Act
Our greatest president
Great vid pops but why are moped riders hated so much?
Don't think they are hated , I drove one of those black french ones that the motor is on the front wheel an you lower it down to start an ride forget the name was a long time ago , I rode that to college for years and around town , cost nothing ten cents of gas an root around in the garbage can for oil left in cans people had bought .
the brand loyal rider is me all the way lmao love my aprilia i tell everyone how great it is and that they need to get one .
"y2k emerald silver that was the rage in the minivan scene in 2006" holy accuracy
Uh oh I’m two of those people while I just started riding a month ago. Got a Honda cbf 600 from 2004 and ride in full dainese gear
Designer Sportster guy, thanks for the shout out
Looking at my naked street bike with my non-name brand jacket hanging on it. I feel targeted homie. And my side quest is epic damn it!
8:32 BANDIT MENTIONED RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-
My off road Tacoma and GS adventure tear up the Chicago suburban streets! 😂
You're so funky as hell at 5 48 when you😢 say sartre😂😂😂
Hey don’t hate on Sportster S. 😂Those are very decent beginner bikes with great warranty if you buy new.
I must admit so far in my first year riding I've yet to meet anyone on an adventure bike 🤣 Very funny video yammie
The Cursed Cafe Racer Teen is a tragic hero. But a hero nonetheless. And, yes, JB Weld will hold that seat hoop in place just fine, Grasshopper.
Think I'm a mash up of like several of these lol
Please, I prefer the term "anonymous" over "ambiguous". Makes me think of the merchant from RE4, but on a bike.
It's all I've aspired to be as a rider. Most of the quests I give are fetch-quests.
This. I dream of the day I get to ride around looking like a cyberpunk NPC but unfortunately Texas summers disagree
Yammie: “Suzuki makes… motorcycles”
The Busa in the corner: 👁️ 👄 👁️
As a dual sport rider, ADV Dads are the worst 😂
As a new time rider. I got flipped off my 500r at like 2 miles an hour, so I do encourage to wear gear but I'm not gonna be a safety jerk about it.
One side affect of joining any emergency service is the automatic development of becoming #9...
I hate autocorrect!
