I'm out wild camping again in this video. It's very wet and boggy but that doesn't spoil the fun. I picked up a new camping stove which seemed to be an eBay bargain.

I’m a gardener, I’ve had a little firemaple stove with me for 2years. Use it everyday what ever the weather. Never let me down. Works perfectly for me in all of the elements.👍
I've just tested an Ali Express knock off Trangia copy, complete with wind shield and simmer ring for £7.44. It worked perfectly but does that make me a bad person?
Seriously, I'm on an extremely tight budget and Hillebergs, Jetboils etc etc are way beyond my means.
One of the challenges we face in the States are nocturnal visits from hungry animals. Cooking or. keeping food and utensils in our tents is not a good idea. Bear bags or a bear canister are a must! I need to do more wild camping when I get back to the UK!
Merry Christmas Paul, Thanks for all the content over the year, All the best to both you and Jo
Guys and Gals, Paul just reminded me of a bad experience camping, as 2, 16 year old's in '68 camping at the Langdale's, national Trust campsite one winter eve, my friend and I decided to replace our butane canister inside our woods tent. Oops whosh went the tent and singed our hair hysterically. we spent the next two nights hiking to Ambleside tying to find shelter where we could. there were several Hostels on the way and were sadly full . So Pls think ahead..IT WAS COLD.
You can use the Rabs hood to fold the jacket neatly into for a makeshift pillow 👍
thank you for your videos, cant go out at the moment due to an injury, these do help to feel I am back up the hills :)
Loved the virtual vestibule! I'll use that in my tent!
Thank you for your review, I was literally planning to buy this tent on Monday, now I see that is not what I looking for space wise 👍
Paul, the jacklord knife is good and functional. I watch him camping when I'm not watching some other UK campers. Thanks😊😊
I got one of those stoves on the back of novice wild camper review. Like you said I like how its low & stable & has given me more confidence cooking in the vestibule. Its quick, I have used my fry pan on it & a titanium mug to save carrying that big pot. No more singing please 😂
I use the jet boil pot stand on the msr wind burner stove the small slots on pot stand legs fit on the burner rim works very well.
Chef Jean Pierre advised in a TH-cam video that mushrooms are mostly water and that getting rid of some of that water will make your mushrooms taste stronger , less diluted . So dry cook the mushrooms at a lowish temperature and watch the steam rise off them before adding a tad of oil for your fried steak , maybe add some onions first , or leak cut to match stick sized bits . The mushrooms will then absorb any juices from the meat and veg . Yummy ! I like to add extra mushrooms more or less at the end of making any curry to soak up the tasty oils floating above the curry , or stew .
I was going to suggest the same thing!
I've had a Fire Maple Mars for a few months and think it's brilliant (so good, I sold my Minimo). The way it all packs together complete with gas canister is very well thought out. I've added volume markings every 100ml to the supplied bowl but apart from that, perfect!
I'm thinking of getting The Mars stove mate, What's it like on Gas? Cheers
After watching your videos for so long last night I finally bought a Trangia 27 upper and lower windscreen..I have the stoves. At some point I'll get the rest of the kit. To expensive for all right now. Look forward to trying it
Nice set up , I have the fire maple x2 in green had it for over 3 years now and I’ve cooked all sorts on it with a boil time of about 2 minutes 20 for a litre and paid £45 new for it. Everyone likes their own but to me I’d say it’s a jetboil killer
I've never heard of Fire Maple but maybe I'll have to check it out. It's interesting to see different companies take similar concepts and out their own spin on it. I also love eBay and other resale sites for outdoor gear, it's saved me so much money buying that way, and you can find some really great deals. I purchased my Columbia Sportswear puffy jacket I used to layer when I lived in Alaska on eBay for $40 (US) and it worked well for me. I will always encourage others to buy resale when they can!
Cheers Paul, much needed bit of escape, even if for the 30 mins of your upload, love the tent, seems about the right size, and looks super easy to pitch. That boiler looks huge, might be the camera angle but it looks epic! Not a bad JK impression to boot too! Thanks Paul for cheering me up, from another Paul!
Lovely day in the outdoors again.
The Unna looks like a true winner, really spacious tent and untying the inner a bit offers plenty of virtual vestibule indeed.
(It's really the only tent creating 'cognitive dissonance' regarding my Soulo RL).
Very decent cooking&water boiling system, especially for the mentioned price.
Congrats on changing your dietary habits. I've found that harder to do than the trails I've hiked.
FireMaple are great I've got the BRS equivalent and the remote canister stove and they're both great bits of kit
The grouse do have a habit of scaring the bejesus out of you 😂
On the occasions I use a gas stove I definitely go for a remote bottle. Yes does make it far more stable.
Love my unna saved me many times. I have the thin silicone sheets from Lidl to stop stuff sliding around on my table :)
That stoves a bargain, looks belter. The radiant would probably throw out some heat around the tent too. Might keep my eye out for one.
Ive got the Allak 3,,, brilliant tent and great ventilation
I don’t use filet steak as the lack of fat means lack of flavour. Use ribeye, from your butcher not supermarket crap, cook it first and the fat from the ribeye can be used to cook the mushrooms in whilst the steak is resting - makes tastier mushrooms plus don’t have to carry oil 👍
Great video per usual Paul! Just got my Unna today, super excited! 👏
I love Fire Maple products. I have a lot of them. Enjoy watching your videos.
Fire maple sent me this stove a couple of months back. I love it. Bit heavy but works great. 👍
Enjoyable video - great to see the Jacklore in action 👍
I have the AlpKit BruKit, has the pan stove in it and I have got the coffee press so can have a fresh brew in the morning, little bit on the heavy side compared to ultralight gear but does me great. I paid similar price to your new stove in the sales a few years ago now.
I love my Firemaple 1L pot with integrated heat exchanger. One of the best buys I’ve made and fits my BRS3000 perfectly.
Good to see you. Glad you are making some transition for your health. Small things add up big in the overall picture. Check your blood pressure meds for concerns for mixing with alcohol. Some are a no no. Unexpected pressure drop, walking, driving etc. There will be a time when you can taste every grain of salt. I haven't used it for many years. Red meat will be another. It reduces kidney function and raises cholesterol. Plus heavily contributes to colon cancer. Life is good when one is young without worries or concerns. Good reviews on the products. Sometimes it hard to improve on the standards we use. There are so many items made mainly from china. The Soto units seem to be much better thought out, from Japan. I want to do a Optimus Polaris all fuel stove pretty soon. Very pricey. I've used an Optimus SVEA for over 40 years. Like a Saturn Five rocket taking off. The knife, a Jacklore., not familiar. It is beautiful. I'm a knife person. Looked at the pan a few times of late. Not bad at all. However the latest is the ceramic coated ones. That one comes with a plate set too in a kit. I like the dispersed flame of the stove. Seems safer. I carry my emergency blanket, sleeping bag and pillow all in one bag. I've always got all three. If I switch bags I still have another exact pillow to take without removing my "go" sleeping bag and items. Be more prepared. Nothing like sleeping on a rock for a pillow. One needs to figure out what the essentials of camping that are required every trip and strive to have those readily available. It is a marginal sport. Really good vid. Beautiful place when the skies cleared. Next time Happy Holidays, good health.
Looked like a nice relaxing camp, despite everything being so wet and soggy now. Really hoping for that cold air to come back. Nice to see you out in the Unna again. It’s definitely become one of my favorite one man tents. A spacious and simple design that just works 👍.
Definitely the socks! I love alpaca socks but they are hopeless for hiking
See u found the book... Love the unna. Cheers for this. Great vid Paul. Love it up there. 🏕️👍
Paul, keep the steak throw the veggies, our guts aren't designed to break them down, no, you don't need fibre either. Look up Bart Kay's youtube channel. Makes wild camping sooooo much easier.
Well done Paul, I’ve just scrolled through all the comments and can’t see anyone mentioning your boots! Of all the outdoor kit I’ve ever bought those boots come up trumps as my favourite. Actually kept dry feet on a wet Cape Wrath Trail with those boots (thanks to fitforadventure) I trusted her opinion and I really hope you’re a convert as I certainly am. If all my kit changes over the years I know one thing won’t change as I bought more pairs for the future!! (With discount codes of course) Thanks again Paul for doing all you do.
I agree with the boots.best purchase I,ve made in a long time.also the transition to zero drop for me was quick.sportspursuit were selling for almost half price.
Got to agree with you on the mushrooms. We have a bit of woodland over the back wall and there's a fair variety of mushrooms which I have looked up, and most are edible. However, there's enough similar looking one which aren't that I'd not risk it.
When you're checking if your stove/burner has cooled down enough to touch, use the back of your hand. If it IS too hot, and you're touching it palm down, your hand will clench and possibly grip the thing that's too hot. Cheers
All mushrooms are edible, though admittedly with some just the once… 😂
Interesting stove Paul and a bargain price too but I must admit I'm being drawn to the more old school Svea123R with the Optimus Weekender cook set at the moment:) Nice to see the knife getting a work out and as for the tent. perhaps a better option than the Soulo:)
I'm with you on the old stuff! Back in the 80s I used my svea daily for several months when I lived in Alaska
That steak looks bang on, Paul. I use those mushrooms from Morrisons when I'm out a lot. Absolutely brilliant. I had them with a salmon fillet, new potatoes, dill and burnt butter.
It's about time someone made a remote canister stove like that, usually they are to tall,I have a hiero that fits the lowdown, but I think the others will be too deep to go around the legs,
I think Coleman do a remote one of those,
Nice that you get the pan support
Perfect half hour - and that steak looked scrummy 🥰👍🏻
Like the new tent, expensive but might start saving the pennies for retirement gift to myself.
Have you forsaken the Jetboil Minimo? I have one + the Jetboil frying pan and I just don’t think you can cook food better in the outdoors. That Fire Maple looks far too large for solo backpacking, the Minimo is such a neat little package.
Thanks for the video Paul, love it! ❤️
I put a big freezer bag with the pan bag so after cooking can be contained then put into its bag 👍
I’ve got the fire maple FMS X3 and it locks in just like the OEX/Jetboil and I love it
Good video, nice to see an Unna for a change, stove looks good.
But far too many ads in this one, TH-cam is getting terrible for ads, much more frequent and longer recently, will put me off watching videos soon.
If you content creators have any influence please influence TH-cam to reduce the ads.
At least six ad breaks in this short video 🙄
Could u maybe do a video on the minimum spend from scratch to enjoy a night’s wild camping in comfort? (I can’t afford RAb coats or down quilts 🤷🏼♂️
Got to be that Ringinglow camp again. Need to find the co-ordinates for it so I go for a walk. Not a camper (yet)
Thank you Paul, one of the better reviews of the Hilleberg Unna and Firemaple Stoves I think.. ;-)
Why don't you use your tent as a pillow, oh I need that now. 😂
I can almost taste that. And am really jealous.
Take care and always....be safe.
Best wishes from a fellow wild camper. Thomas from Manchester.
I've still to use my fire maple. Haven't been out properly in a few months due to this rubbish weather. 😮
Odd and slightly irritating thing with the Unna is there is only one pocket in the inner tent, but if you buy the inner mesh version, there are two pockets🤷
It's subzero temperatures out here in Poland, I'm sure the UK isn't that cold, I've put adventures on hold till spring, which means no videos too.
Im not surprised things are so soggy, it's been raining since September.
I wonder if Paul ever crossed path with wildbear 😅
Great result against Leeds and West Brom shame we couldn’t make it three with Bristol 🤬 great camp though need to get out soon, lost my mojo a bit
Just watched grizzly gaz using the same flying maple stove as you...... and the pan support does appear to be deeper than the one you used...
'U' east yorkshire.
I just bought a big pair of tweezers for handling hot stove parts.
Still not got out to that camp spot yet.....do you have to book in advance now😊
Love the videos mate real inspiration had a new knee but planning a bikepacking spring we may even meet and I'll get you a beer 👌👌
Love that knife. 😍
Looked like a nice time. 👍
Paul - I didn’t find your table in your gear list. Which one do you use in this video?
Nice stove, maybe I'll buy one, but for now I'm sticking to my Chinese imitation JetBoil, works a treat. Never a fan of cooking in a pan inside a tent because of the fat and cooking moisture can wreak havoc on the outer tent, eventually leaking when raining.
I've used Firemaple for years and I've never been let down, always well made equipment but not the cheapest.
....The best part of the video was hearing the Sunderland AFC result ! ... 👍
When you pick a flat spot do you ever get in quick and just lie on the ground to make sure. I’ve set up thinking it’s super flat and either been on an incline or found a huge bump when I lay down and been gutted that I had to move it again 😂🤦🏻♂️
The puffy coat pillow hack is a total gem. Well done, Paul. Steak was on point! Perfectly cooked. Do you know Claire from WildBeare?
Hi Paul, A mushroom specialist told me all wild mushrooms are edible, some only once
This feels like a bit of advice from Nanny Ogg. 😏
😂
Was up on featherbed moss the other day an it was just a quagmire
Great video Paul, I know you have done full backpack videos before but I noticed so many little things that seemed very useful to your camp in this video such as wipes for cleaning the frying pan and a cloth to wipe the condensation from the inner. A video covering these would be cool in the future 👍🏼
When will you sell the RAB Latok?😊😊😊 love your videos. Great guy.
Nice looking camp
As a singer you’re a great camper!🙄🤣
Is that the Peak District or the peat district?
(I'll get me coat.)
I use to have the Unna but sold it for an ultralight tent. I regret it massively the ultralight cant take it as the proper ones can. The Unna was like a tank compared to what i use now.
I’ve taken to your videos a lot lately. I think because I’m a similar size to you gives me great comparison and see how things work for you.
Perun mini torch, just bought one for the kids Xmas after watching him struggling with a hand held torch camping the other night.
What lighter are you using?
I was interested in the mars radiant earlier when it was released. There weren't almost any videos about it back then. Didn't want to buy it before some reviews. Then i had a chance to buy the reactor used for the same money as a new mars radiant so i went with it. Theres no chance for using a pan though.
I love the hat you were wearing in the morning time. Can you share the brand, please?
Good video m8 ...was in the peak district the over wk don't know if u would be able to answer this question I noticed in barber booth car park they have put a car parking meter there do you know if you can park up there for 24hrs to camp???Great if you know the answer to my question 👍
Loved the jamiroquai mate
Great vid as ever Paul. Unna looks great, have a Niak but acquired the 10mm poles so hoping it will take some ‘significant’ wind. One question- am sure you’ve mentioned it before, but where can I get a table like yours? Atb. 👍
Try typing ultralight camping table in the address bar and see what comes up, the internets amazing.......? (Soto Field Hopper Mini Popup)
Any ideas what happened to the monthly ultralight series you had planned for a camp a month with a 30-35L backpack? Did the idea get canned?
On the Fire Maple web site the pot stand looks higher than yours
Nice on for the Macams 😊
Hi Paul,
Is that a Keela Munro? If so I'd love to hear what you think of it. The Mars looked great, I have an ancient camping gaz cat stove, heavy but very safe and goes well from a tickover to full bore.
Cheers
Graham
Every time I watch your video I like the look of the little table that you use can you tell me where you get it from please
The tent of my warm and dry dreams
Thought you would have supported the blades or Wednesday Paul, not the Mackhams.
Nice stove, similar to MSR product, but for Me, Trangia rules.
Any news about Times and dates for The NEC ?
What is the mini table you are using Paul
Looks like you could use an ordinary pot on the stove and save a load of space and weight in your pack
Ive had the soulo unna and niak and use the niak most of all. So i would say the niak a better tent.
If only the Unna had a proper vestible. 😉😊
Got an unexpected bargain when an offer was accepted on eBay. Now the owner of Robens chaser tent which has had very little use and only £160👍
Paul is that a hilltop packs food bag?
I've wanted one of those knives, but I'm told they aren't available across the pond
28:50 - did you stumble upon a Geocache Paul?
I come to ask the same question.
great vid paul
