    Hi Chad, loved the interview the other night. I had to laugh because I have said to my wife You're like the Bob Ross of car builds and then you said it lol. Your soldering needs some work. It is called sweating and requires much less solder than you're using. Put a damp rag where you want to control the heat, so you don't un sweat a joint and put all your heat to the fitting and the heat will draw the solder in. Just a heads up for the next time. When done right you will see very little solder in the joint.

    The copper pipe wasn't soldered properly and it leaked. Taking the cylinder head off in the future is going to be really hard due to the welds from the throttle cable. That's what you get from "free range auto construction", and its more entertaining than any other car show anywhere! Love the bumps and hiccups as much as the successes.

    • @f150bc
      @f150bc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Every house we built we tested the copper heat lines for leaks when we started the heat and ran in water to the boiler,as far as the head get a wheel and cut the welds ,this is a shop car running the 1/8 mile no big deal.

    People sure can be critical. Bad Chad is really, really good at working with what he has. It's a pain in the butt to run out for bits and pieces when you live in a rural setting and it's not likely the one or two parts stores are going to have what he needs.
    All of the critics probably haven't built anywhere close to the amount of duke ass cars that Chad has.

    There was a time I had a 29 Rodster body on a later Ford frame runnin a old Chrysler hemi thru a old Ford floor shift to a Columbia 2 speed rear end. zoomie exhausts, no lights or plates of any kind. It was great for the occasonal very late night quick run around town. Usually took about a case of beer for self and friends to get it moving. It was a blast for 10 or 15 minutes. I think of this old Hup along the same lines. Fun as hell for a short blast, with a little priming to get it going. Hang on tight Jolene, it's going to be rough exciting ride..

    Make a rod just smaller than the hole in the peddle mech., drill a hole the size of the cable in the rod, insert the rod across two holes, insert cable through the rod, insert cable into cable sheath, done. On the carb end, drill a hole near the bolt head, fasten the cable by tightening the cable to the head of the bolt with the first nut, then fasten the bolt to the carb with a self locking nut so the shaft moves freely.

    Love watching yr show. Don’t know why people gripe so much about how the build is going. Enjoy it for wat it is guys. It’s a period build. How it would have been done back then. Don’t compare to how it would b built today. The creativity is great. If u watch u can pick up a few ideas u mite like and use yrself. Or wat not to do. If it bothers u too much watch something else. Above all we all know u armchair builders no more than a actual builder but u really don’t have to keep telling us. Just enjoy the show guys

    I do think that some people miss the point. Chad is not a master mechanic. He is clearly self taught and he is showing what the normal guy with basic tools can do if he has the will and the way to build a hotrod in his garage. It's not about copying what he does it's about finding the drive to find your own way including the mistakes along the way.

    I kind a wish he would do something different than playing with the throttle. The last thing he needs to work is the gas pedal. I think he has plenty of cars out in his yard he could take a bracket off of, or at least get some ideas. Plus I admit I would rather watch him cut cars up. I think he has me spoiled with his custom work on the old bodies.
    I guess a last ditch effort he could phone a friend. It would be fun if Jim was there. I bet Jim would love to help him. The show just isn’t long enough.

    Hi, I've really enjoyed your videos, and may have a suggestion for the audio problems that keep happening. The transmitter on Chads belt just needs to be received by another receiver that Jolene can monitor while she is filming with an earphone. Just find the frequency that is being used and add another receiver that uses the same frequency. If Chads movement unplugs the microphone, Jolene will not be able to hear him and can fix it. She will know instantly.

    The piece you wee trying to fit through the accelerator pedal slides off the cable. Drill a hole to fit that and slide it into the holes without prying the end apart. Then slide the cable into place and through the firewall. Watching you do that job had me shouting at the TV. Less haste, more speed; take a minute longer and think out the options. Perhaps ask Jolene if she can plan a job like that before you attack it.

  • @philipburrows
    @philipburrows 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi chad
    Do you have a return spring on the gas pedal or as us British would say accelerator pedal?
    Where the leak is on the copper pipe might be a cold spot from when you soldered it, it just might need to be reflowed the solder with a touch more fresh solder just to be on the safe side.
    You could make a couple of caps so you can cap one end of the pipe fill the pipe with water and cap the other end and check for leaks then when all is good and leak free remove the caps empty the water and fit the pipe to the car.
    The car is looking good Chad, cool to see car's being transformed into a beautiful work of art.

      When Chad resurrected the original Bugatti build the subscriber count was in the early 50,000's. He had let Jolene's Bugatti build stagnate for around two years until that point. It was Jolene's resurrected build that got the channel moving. Jolene's Bugatti plus the second Bugatti build quickly accelerated the subscriber count to almost 100,000.

    Chad what you could do to make the throttle cable work better is to take two washers the next size larger and weld a spot at the top of the two and a gap on the other side spread it wide enough where the cable will go against the welded side and put it on the bolt. The weld will retain it and the gap will pinch it when tightened.

  • @gregorystroud6119
    @gregorystroud6119 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That little clip you are using for the throttle cable is made like that for a purpose. Drill a hole at the end of the plate, slot it and slide the clip onto the plate. Drill another hole to mount onto the carb manifold. Easy peasy when u use a drill. OK to Weld onto frame, but not motor, brakes etc.

    Your soldering just needed more heat. The tip of the blue flame is the hottest part, but to fill that gap with melted solder perhaps MAPP gas as one guy suggested might work better. And wrap a wet rag around the other end of the fitting of course, so it won't unsolder.

    FYI and I'm sure you know but haven't noticed. The radiator fan will pull air from the easiest place it can get it. You have a very big hole at the bottom of your fan shroud and should put a piece of metal at the bottom to seal off the air flow from coming around your radiator instead of threw it.

    If you put the burr deeper into the grinder it will run 10x smoother instead of all the chattering and bucking. At the foundry we use to cut the burr shaft off some so it could go into the die grinder all the way if we felt like doing so.

    Sorry Chad, I love your bodywork skills and the finished results are brilliant but , your throttle cable fitting skills need some development. That two minute job turned into a marathon. A set of drills would have given you a round hole the cable would fitted in seconds, You could have then removed the round pivot from the cable nipple, slipped it into the throttle pedal without having to spread the pedal lever. Then pushed the cable through that and through the bulkhead. It got worse, surely removing the head nuts and clamping a bracket of some sorts under them would have been better than welding that piece to the nuts?

    Drill a hole through the screw on the carb and push the cable through and use a jam nut. That would fix you linkage cable problems...

  • @mconfluence
    @mconfluence 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Chad drill a hole in the bolt up close to the head of the bolt big enough for the cable to go through then put the washer on and tighten up the nut. It will pinch the cable tight.

    great work,
    you can screw the gas cable between two washer on the carb.
    If you crinkle one washer the cable could not fall off.

    That firewall is going to make it hot as hell riding in there. Maybe sealing up all those holes with a welder?..

    Just watching from home, but I think making the throttle cable bracket would have been easier to weld the bracket to the top of the metal above the perferrated firewall. All in all, a great "It's Friday video.

    Chad I have been laughing my ass off every damn time you find out how freaking awesome that firewall is for mounting accessories... I don't think people understand how funny you are. Thanks for teaching us a dying art...

    A drill bit may have been a better choice to enlarge the hole. Let's hope it's only one small pin hole to fix. Jolene does a fabulous job with the camera.

    What about a fire blanket on the firewall? They don't weigh much.

    Folks need to take into consideration that this is pretty much a "one event vehicle". Then put away until next year's race... Here's hoping Mz Jolene takes home the 🏆.
