I enjoyed your critique of the manufacturing process. That is the kind of insight that very few fountain pen reviewers can pull off. Based on my exploration of the Ranga site I believe the minimum length of any of their pens is 6 inches, so they are all pretty big.
Don't get me wrong, they make some great pens. But a few tweaks can make them even better & also make his manufacturing process quicker & more consistent
Oh, these pens are good. I love the Ranga models. I have a model 4 w flat ends and a larger model with conical ends, both thread really well.. i love the feel of the ebonite. I think you could design some machinery for him.. it is pretty agro how he free hands all of it.
🤔 Apparently, Indian pens are all the rage this couple of months. I must admit, the artesanal feeling this pens give is one of their attractive points besides the prices and the options of customization. I thought 2 or 3 years ago than Indians pens would rise in prominence but then Chinese Pen manufacturers steal the thunder. The pen looks cool and classic, even vintage due to the pattern of the material. But I think the Indian pen manufacturers need to up their game, well, some are doing it now. Thank you for the video. Chrisrap52 have been reviewing Osprey pens, maybe you would like to see some of their offerings.
Double end poker. A stIffy. Had goo in it Sniffing it Fits nicely in the hand Plenty big Interesting pen descriptors. Sorry. The mind wanders sometimes. As always, informative and fun. I used to work on an overhead belt driven Southend lathe. Sharp tools help too. For thread cutting, need to reduce speed.
Yeah had it cranking while cutting the threads. Also no centre drill or self centering bits when drilling. The bit goes wherever it damn well wants to go 😂
Thanks, Doodlebud! Don't get your gonchies in a bunch over those threads. Tried to follow your discursis, not much luck. I do know what concentric circles are and your wife has a lovely... gizmo there. I have a Ranga 8B, like it, very comfortable to hold and use, slight odor of something burning, like tires. No wobble in mine nor visible threads, glad for that. Good idea to get the converter version. I have an eyedropper and don't know how much ink is left until it burps, then I know.
Interesting. I listen to engineers, and I am constantly reminded that very high aptitude in mathematics does not translate into engineering aptitude necessarily. I love chemistry and math (started college major), but I am absolutely challenged with “real” world physics! It was most humorous in USAF aptitudes. I scored the max on all areas except one (still 85% but that was 10 percentage points lower than any other score). It was Vietnam era, so the USAF told me I would probably be drafted before my name came up on their weighting list. 2 or 3 weeks later they called me at 9 A.M. the guy said, we have an opening we can move you into, but there is good news (opening) and bad news. Of course, I said, “What’s the bad news?” He: “You have to be in Centralia, IL by 1 P.M. today.” I said, OK., what is the other. He: “You have to go into the USAF in mechanics” (more physics aptitude). I said, “But that is my lowest aptitude.” He said, you were our highest in the other areas, but you are still higher than other candidates available in mechanics now.” I said, OK. During basic training they gave us more tests. One was language aptitude. Actually I would find that I am also textbook smart in language, but not a very good linguist. In the end, I had a 4-year career in Military Intelligence (Russian), but I never really spoke Russian well; hence, I became an analyst, rose through the ranks, becoming one of two guys in-charge of missions. Brains are funny, aren’t they? Envy those who can “see” the real while looking at everything; my electrician friend, who could not do algebra, is much better at application than I am. The farm guys called me “book smart; no earthly good.” 😊
2:43 Can you do a video on taking the Ranga and making it into an eyedropper by taking out one of the bock nibs from the spare nib+feed unit and using it with the ebonite eyedropper system, e.g. can you take the titanium bock nib and making it into an eyedropper (which probably writes really wet?). It would be useful to know what the combinations are. I have a 8B cartridge and some spare bock nib units. Should I get an juicy eyedropper as well?!
Good review! I have the 3C, the 4C and the 8B as well. I have the same feeling about the threads on the 8B. They feel a little bit tight and sticky. It has a hard stop when the section touched the ridge inside the cap , but doesn't have consistent pressure while you close it. It gets increasingly tight making it kind of feel like you have to force it. Nothing extreme, and very usable, but it could be improved by just getting the ridge inside the cap a fraction closer. The 3C has a similar threading though, where the 4C is overall much nicer to cap/uncap. The section is a bit too wide for my liking near the bottom, but not problematic. Just makes me grip this pen kind of long. On the plus side, the polishing and material on my 8B are immaculate, a bit better than the 3C, and all of the bigger Ranga's are extremely comfortable. Overall I really like it as sort of a marathon writer. Comfortable and beats almost every other pen that I have. I like that Ranga doesn't overcomplicate things with fancy filling systems that may not add much. They just make solid pens out of nice materials.
@@kodoaok626 Never had any trouble with that. If you eyedropper, I can say the pens are sealed properly, but when you warm it up with your hand a blob of ink might come out. This is "normal" for eyedroppers.
If there is a giveaway of an Indian pen for the 1000 subscribers mark and i win it, i think that will reach me before the first giveaway which is still on its way.. LOL.
Warning!!! Ranga does not take returns or attempt to correct clear errors - While I received a beautiful pen it was clearly not even close to the colour I had chosen. The main response was that it was the colour I had chosen and no recourse was available - very saddened that I will not get to use a Ranga pen and I am now too afraid to make other colour choices
Ebonite fountain pens is my preference. They are beautiful and traditional. In India these pens have been made for 100 years...
Thanks 4 Ur continuous U-Tube contribution 2 us all fountain penthusiasts

Ranga makes beautiful pens,
I will order a 4C in ebonite soon!
Did you purchase one ?
How is it ?

This is a good value indeed. At this price, some things can be compromised. I think the fit and finish on their high end models must be good.
Yeah I bet for a bit t more... You get a bit more.
Thnx for the review. Thinking about buying a Samurai just so I can get a pen with a #8 Titanium Bock nib for a nice price.

I might have to go comando... 🤔. Only way for my ginch to not get in a pinch when I examine threads
Keeners (but not many) can also be found in Scottish schools.

I just ordered a pen in ebonite last week. Hoping it shows up sooner than later. How long did it take from order to delivery?
Ordered March 23, arrived April 6th. Transit was only a few days. Most was just time to make the pen which is pretty quick!
It's plenty big, Thats what she said. "Michael Scot"
I say that way too much myself
Hmmm, I guess I haven't purchased a new "Dress" shirt in a bit, no front pockets? What is up with that!?
I duuno... But it does look cleaner. Especially on a patterned shirt
Good review!
