      The craziest part of Wyatt earp's life was maybe when he, Doc Holiday, & that Texas jack dude..... Go after the cowboy Gang... Of the old wild west.. And eventually disbanding the gang... Henceforth making him a legend

    There was no trial. There was a hearing for Wyatt Earp and Doc Holladay that concluded that the two men did not break the law. My great-great grandfather testified at the hearing. His name was Apolinar Bauer. He owned the meat market behind the OK corral and next to Flys studio. He also owned most of 4th street which was referred to as Bauer's block since he was responsible for most if not all the buildings construction.

    I think I’ve read everything ever written about this man, he was no angel, he seems to always be either eulogized or vilified. But, I have to say if you know anything at all about American history, this man is what we would definitely define today as a major “Bad Ass”.

    You know I was completely blown away when I passed his and Josephine ‘s tombstone on my way to visit my mom’s resting place. At first I had no idea who he was until I fell across the recently released movie on Sling tv about his life. Dang what a unexpected surprise! ....Wyatt Earp coached an injured football player from USC who had lost his scholarship, and who had been brought to him by football fan ,and actor, Tom Mix. Mix felt bad for the injured star and wanted to get him started in the movies. The young student absorbed Earp's speech and mannerisms, and after changing his name from Marion Morrison....he became : JOHN WAYNE !! When you watch John Wayne on screen, you are watching WYATT EARP !!

    History has probably been very kind to the person that was able to tell his own story. Who knows what the truth is. We are almost certainly getting mostly one side of the story. But, it is also cool to have someone live through all of that and be able to tell the story. He will always be a part of American folklore

  • @Rick_King
    @Rick_King 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The Earps and Doc Holliday never stood trial for murder. There was a preliminary hearing, the so-called "Spicer Hearing," at which it was determined that there was no probable cause to take the matter to an actual trial.
    In the Fitzsimmons-Sharkey fight, Wyatt made the correct call. If he were trying to throw the fight, he wouldn't have waited until the 8th round. Fitzsimmons had already hit Sharkey below the belt, and Wyatt let him off with a warning. When it happened again, Wyatt called the fight.
    A man who runs a brothel is not a pimp. A pimp runs girls in the street. The guy who runs a brothel is a businessman. Besides, Wyatt and Morgan worked as security and bouncers, they didn't actually run any brothels.
    And the Buntline Special revolvers were nothing but a myth.
    Great video, I just had to put in my two cents!

    Oh and by the way I do have an MS in Education, so I don’t want this just to be a hero fantasy comment. Wyatt Earp wouldn’t be considered a hero today. Yes, He was a bad boy. But, I think more good than bad. Reason being he and his whole family were raised by an in love well adjusted parents, not rich but dedicated to family. It was more of the times they lived in and the hardships that caused them “to find a way”. In the end all of the Earps gave themselves to truth and justice.

    My great grandpa was in Dodge City in the 1870's-'80's working mostly as a blacksmith but for a short while as sheriff. When Wyatt first came to town, he refused to hang up his gun with the bartender at the saloon. So someone went to fetch the sheriff. When ordered to obey the law, again he refused. So Peter Walter (my great grandpa) decked him! Knocked him to the floor. Remember, he was a blacksmith. Lol! But then, he reached down to give Wyatt a hand back up to his feet, and the story my grandma told me was they became friends from then on. Long story short, not only did Wyatt die in Southern California, so did Peter Walter, my great grandfather in San Diego. What a lot of people don't know about Dodge City in the 1870's & '80's was that all the saloons north of the railroad track had rules like that, but the saloons & brothels south of the track did not. Peter Walter's blacksmith shop was in a block of buildings that were razed in the '70's when the State widened the road. However, great grandma Julia's hotel/boarding house is still there, across the street from Applebees. I worked on a wind farm project 4 yrs ago and during a ice storm, took some down time to check out the historical society. Found a ton of info about my great grandpa... but nothing about the family story involving Wyatt Erp. Oh well...

    Wyatt was a bad ass. He would smack a person around. He also loved budding people with his gun so he would not get any murder charges. Once he was deputized again he shot and killed all the gang the cowboys and yes Doc Holiday was a great friend. Holiday died of Turboculous because there was no vaccine then. So he did get wreckless but didn't die of alcoholism.

    As soon as the Colt Single Action Army came out you could order them with special barrel lengths for an extra Dollar for every inch or fraction of an inch over 7 1/2 inches. The fact that you can't bother to do enough reserch to discover this discredits your whole video. Whay you probably did was ask about a Buntline Special which wasn't introduced as a seperate model until after the TV show came out. Next time ask about Colt single actions with extra long barrels.

    It is a matter of contention as to whether Ned Buntline (a nom de plume) ever gave Wyatt Earp a 12" barrel Colt Single Action Army .45 cal. revolver. It is not disputed that extra long barrel handguns were built by custom order by Colt that may of not been registered in that company's logbooks. Such things were not uncommon before the 20th century. It is very much the case that Colt did not catalog the 'Buntline Special' until Colt began to issue its second generation of the Single Action Army due to the 'western' craze of 1950's television. Many of those extra long barrel authentic Colt's now bring thousands of dollars (dependent upon series of manufacture and condition) at auction.

    Every story about the Earp's & 'Doc' Holliday miss mentioning the WEATHER conditions @ the time of the "Shootout (near/next) to the O. K. Corral".
    It was so COLD that morning, there was so much 'sleet' (hail) that it looked like SNOW..
    About a half hr after the gunbattle, it snowed on the city of Tombstone & surrounding area.
    Ever been so COLD u can't stop shaking? I have. Ever been so 'scared' you started 'shaking', I have.
    Now given the 2 questions above;
    The Earps' & Holliday were PRECIEVED as "professional gunfighters". You & Clanton near the O. K. Corral hear the Earps & Holliday are heading to your location..maybe u start 'shaking' because earlier were all 'bad-mouthin'" the Earps/'Doc' & think they have heard about you 'bad-mouthing' them.
    Then add to this how DAMN COLD it is all day!
    The Earp Group turn around the corner, facing y'all. Now u slowly draw your pistol (all of them; Single-Action) but as Virg talks, telling y'all to "give up your firearms" before u leave town--u start to lower your pistol back into the holster, while slowly tryin' to lower the hammer (which u had already 'cocked'---being it is a 'Single-Action', being only to use your 'drawing hand, and u are shaking unable to overwide your fright & the coldness, u can't resist either of those, your thumb slips with the hammer stricking the rd in the chamber----BANG the fight is on!
    To this day, no expert in History has been able to determine who fired the '1st Shot'!
    Some claim it might have been Doc! But Doc had hiddden under his heavy long black coat a short barreled shotgun the Earp's had gotten from the Well's Fargo Company building..it wasn't a shotgun blast but a pistol shot..can't prove it BUT it does logically relate to a pistol, trying to be slowly lowered back into its holster but the thumb which might have been trying to lower the Hammer safely; slips..and the gun battle occurs..still sounding into human history...

      Many reports say Big Nose Kate was in the boarding house where she & Doc were living. She was able to see the gunbattle (windows) but nonthing written by her has ever been produced.
      It also been written when the gunfight was over,, Doc came into their room weeping & saying something in the order,; "this wasn't suppose to happen; Oh God!"

    I use to ride with Wyatt back in the day. Wyatt rode a chestnut palomino mare, and I rode a Honda super 90. Wyatt had an old rusted, bent barrell six shooter, and I carried a Glock 9mm, and a Smith and Wesson derringer in each boot. Wyatt wore a 10 gallon cowboy hat, and wore a Bass Pro Shop baseball cap in cammo color. Wyatt was a local small town deputy sheriff, and I was in both the FBI and CIA at the same time. Now, Wyatt as a ladies man, except he constantly had them little biting bugs on his sack. I don't mean nap sack either!

    I scrolled down to see if anyone else who was around during the "Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" TV show era would comment about it. It was just a few degrees beyond the Roy Rogers/Gene Autry nonsensical attire of pegged pants tucked into his boots and fancy fringed shirt. Hugh O'Brian Had the skin-tight pants worn inside his fancy boots (nothing to tuck!) and the same gray shirt every show, but none of it was as gaudy, thank goodness, as the "Singing Cowboys." The show told the story of Ned Buntline, the writer of "Dime Novels," who so embellished his stories that he may have got some men killed. The "Buntline Special," as shown, would've been impossible to bring into action with any speed, so as a teenager I wondered about it at the time. The funniest part was that actor Hugh O'Brian fancied himself a real "Fast-draw," challenging all the macho actors to a quick-draw contest. It later turned out that comic Jerry Lewis could beat him every time and O'Brian gave up the contest idea when Audie Murphy, winner of every medal available in WWII and a pretty good actor himself, said he'd meet the challenge---with loaded weapons. LOL

    • @henryrogers5500
      @henryrogers5500 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Makes sense! Simple physics. The time it would take for that long barrel to physically and clumsily travel out of that holster with any appreciable speed in comparison to a 4” or even a 6” barrel revolver would more than likely cost one their life in a gunfight.

    The stories I read were different because Wyatt Earp was not the Marshall during the OK coral days, it was his brother Virgil, Virgil did most of the shooting and eventually he got ambushed several times and got shot up pretty bad the same with James got killed, Wyatt later I read retaliated and went after his brothers killer and Virgil's ambushers. Wyatt was never a marshal in tombstone?
