      Guardi una videocassetta o DVD con la Fedora barbieri e confronti, direi che la barbieri era molto meglio.

    Per me questa versione è addirittura superiore a quella - sublime! - con Zubin Mehta di quasi 10 anni prima...è ancora più intensa, c'è ancora più accento, più pathos, più parola scenica, oltre alla voce sempre strepitosa. Poi la progressione del tempo, che spinge inesorabile verso la fine tragica di un racconto altrettanto tragicamente iniziato...che dire...pelle d'oca dall'inizio alla fine.
    Mitica, inarrivabile Cossotto.🔥🔥🔥❤

    Io vorrei ringraziare TUTTI quelli che mettono i video dei grandi maestri dell'opera sul TH-cam... E' un testimonio e un REGALO per tutte le nuove generazioni dei cantanti... Una scuola enorme che si va a perdere oggi (purtroppo) con le nuove "mode" che, non possono per niente superare il VERO canto ITALIANO... Ed io sono una Greca che lo dico, sono una che ha cercato TANTISSIMO per trovare la verita'... Che ancora, ogni giorno, sto cercando, imparando, e la DIFENDO in un mondo pieno di informazione FALSA di "come si deve cantare". Grazie a TUTTI VOI.

      Se dovessi scegliere con chi studiare, preferirei Fedora barbieri, di gran lunga molto meglio, si noti la differenza di stile, la barbieri ci mette la faccia, la grinta, non ha paura, parliamo di quando era in carriera visto che non e' più con noi purtroppo. Io di un cantante uomo o donna, guardo il modo di recitare, di usare il viso, qui dice tutto, gobbi usava lo sguardo sia in opere serie, sia in opere buffe, corelli, così come Bastianini e Magda Olivero, un altro per esempio giulio neri, quelli sapevano recitare, metto pure ivo vinco etc....

      @@paolonostini3693 Bene, certo! Io pero' non sto parlando di studio di canto, ma di studio di un artista ascoltando un altro artista. La sua Azucena e' incredibile, e' una scuola per se, secondo me, ogni mezzosoprano deve "studiarla". Saluti dalla Grecia!

      A proposito di Giulio neri, grande basso profondo, che oltre a essere poco più di due metri, riusciva a tenere le note basse e lunghe con naturalezza, si noti la parte del prete nell barbiere di Siviglia, il mefistofile, sparafucile nel rigoletto, il suo sparafucile poi lo rendeva come uomo e personaggio perfino bello . Oggi invece?

    I like the slow tempo. I also like the way it increases as Cossotto's Azucena becomes more hysterical in this taxing role. Von Karajan knew what he was doing but so did Cossotto, who was jumping the gun a little.

    Not a fan of Cossotto earlier but this is almost amazing! Will listen more to her earlier recordings as this one when her voice is in this good shape!

    One of the only women I consider vocally and dramatically equipped for this role, but I prefer her earlier recording of this scene in particular.

      Cossotto was lucky to appear at the right time... the truly great ones Barbieri & Simionata were in their last lap, Obraztsova still a distant star in the far horizon...

    @simercutio99; in fact there is an early recital-album, available again which has the "voce di donna" , but as far as I know she never sang the role on stage! But she did Laura until 1988!

    I also think Azucena is the most important mezzo role from Verdi. After all she has 2 magnificent arias whereas Amneris has no real aria (although she has 2 great duets and a big scene at the end!)

    Fiorenza cossotto, così così, in una parte non difficile da interpretare, di più direi, una parte drammatica dove deve tirare fuori molta grinta, non solo di voce ma anche di recitazione, vorrei insistere su un mezzosoprano più indomabile in questo ruolo, Fedora barbieri direi, un azucena, e che azucena, quando recitava la parte della zingara nel trovatore si vedeva il delirio della donna, nell' raccontare il dramma vissuto con una naturalezza incredibile spettinandosi e con uno sguardo d'orrore brava

    Penso che in questo momento le violine prendono il gaio motivo dell avvampare e cosi il contrasto e piu evidente e rende piu drammatico la scena!

      Bravo, sono d'accordo con lei, Fedora barbieri, inserirei pure un altro mezzosoprano che valeva in questo ruolo, gianna pederzini, che azucena, oltretutto andava a pennello visto che già non era bella di per sé, truccata poi era ancora più brutta, ma sempre di ottimo livello

    I'm rather shocked anyone could be a Verdi fan and NOT love Don Carlos. I'd argue it's his single greatest opera.
    Regardless, Eboli certainly outshines Ulrica, since Eboli gets the brilliant "O don fatale." Ulrica isn't much of a character, IMO. I'd even put Maddalena from Rigoletto above her on the list. :)

    Well, she´s electricfy in this role! Wonderful singer-actress, but vocally I prefer Obratsova, a bigger voice.

    Not a true contralto, plus always wanting to be a soprano. Betty Allen was a far more compelling Azucena, not to mention Barbieri, Simionata, Dominquez, and last but not least, Elena Obraztzova.
