You got stuck at the red light at Reading because you had been exceeding the train's 100mph limit specified in the scenario description. This meant that you arrived at Reading far earlier than the time you were due to get there so they kept you waiting until your scheduled departure time.
"Didcot Up Avoid" simply means that you were driving on the "Up" line avoiding Didcot (Parkway station) The other line at the junction (were you had the 70 mph limit) goes through Didcot Parkway station. Anyway enjoyed the video as always and thumbs up! :)
"This is a classic British train now isn't it" Class 67s: Built in Valencia, Spain with EMD (American) traction equipment. You tried DaSquirrelsNuts, you tried.
A couple of things, British train drivers only sound their horn/whistles when they are required to (i.e. they pass a "W" sign/"Whistle" board) they don't just toot each other. The second thing, the AWS sounder has two tones, a high pitched 'ping', which indicates a clear signal, and a lower, longer note, which indicates a signal at caution/danger. You only need to press the AWS Reset button when you get the lower, warning sound, otherwise the brakes will activate. A clear AWS sound needs no response.
The sequence for signals is green, double yellow, THEN single yellow, then red. You can also see how far away signals are in the HUD at the bottom of the screen.
This is so funny watching back old videos. "why is it red, it was a single yellow not a double yellow" lol and always pushing the aws reset for a clear signal. You have come a long way and learnt a lot since these days.
Some times with Train Sim you will get a signal stuck on red, you can try to get past it by asking the signal box to pass the red signal (TAB key) or if that doesn't work you can save the game, quit to the main menu and then reload the scenario which should fix the fault.
They need to add a sledgehammer to the game, let you go out and smash in that light till it agrees with you :P Would make an interesting route if it was persistent.
I'm not sure if someone already picked up on this but the speed limit for the journey was 100mph so when squirrel was pushing 115mph that was not in the journey plan so he arrived before he was scheduled too maybe 5-10 mins and therefore had to wait the extra time on the platform in that station for the red light to change. I'm guessing if you had not have exceeded the speed limit you would have arrived at the station closer to departure time and had less time to wait for the signal to change.
Hey, Paul, That Platform on the Didcot Up Avoid to your right is the Didcot Railway Centre which is one of the largest live steam collections in the world, and the platform is for the 0.3mile track which they run steam trains on sometimes. Also the Coaching stock that you are hauling is limited to 100mph but the Class 67 is rated for 125mph in Passenger config, and 70mph in Cargo. The 125mph capabilities mean they are great as Rescue locos. The Three lions on the side of the Loco represents England, Scotland and Wales of the EWS company. When you approached Reading the signal order is Double Yellow, then Yellow, then Red, and those aspects are wrong because they should have been Flashing Double Yellows and Flashing Yellow before you turn off the Main Up Line to The Slow Up line to Warn you as a Driver that there would be a change of Track and Speed. If you didn't know Paul, The Up Lines are lines heading into London, Previously Mile Post 0, and Down Lines are lines going away from London, Previously from Mile Post 0.If you are unsure about when you are at a Red signal on TS2014 press TAB because there are bugs in the signalling which i have found when creating my own Scenarios. Reading Station no longer looks like what it does as Network Rail has put in Lots of Money to Electrify the line, Rebuild the Station for higher capacity, remodel one of the junctions and re signal, in the Winter of 2012.
Squirrel, a couple of things. Only press Q when the AWS sounds at double yellow, yellow, red and also it will sound at speed limit changes which are represented as yellow diamonds which look like speed limits. Light phases are; Green - all clear, Double Yellow - Next signal at single yellow, Yellow - Next signal at Red be prepared to stop and Red - Stop. Hope this helps
20:30 signal aspects in uk Green = proceed Double yellow = preliminary caution (expect next signal to be caution) yellow = caution (expect next signal to be danger) red = danger
Really enjoyable video, as per usual, Paul. The gentle "ding" just indicates that you're approaching a green signal, and all is clear, and this doesn't need to be reset. The call button in the cab, I assume, is to call the signalman up ahead if you want to ask permission to pass a red signal. I know it's fun to toot other trains, but you want to be careful not to do that in Career mode, and it will penalise you for incorrect horn usage. Don't worry about double yellows, that just means that there is a single yellow on the next signal. The single yellow is the one that indicates a red on the next signal.
Great video Squirrel, Reading station has changed somewhat in the last few years as they have spent a ton of money expanding the capacity and rebuilding the passenger concourse.
The thing on the side of the loco is the EWS logo (English Welsh and Scotish). So one of them is a lion. And a double yellow light means the next might be a yellow and a single yellow means the next will be a red.
Yep, a lion for England, a dragon for Wales and a unicorn for Scotland. It's a great logo designed by a kid for a Rail magazine contest some years ago, so it would be a pity to see it go.
kind of sound like you misunderstood somithing in the lights squirrel. Double yellow means the next signal is a single yellow. Then a single yellow means the next one is red.
Paul when you stopped at the last station towards the end of the video, and you pressed F1, you had the option of calling the signalman to pass the red signal at danger. If the signalworker say yes, you can pass without the emergency brake coming on.
Hey paul, Pay attention on what you are reading (Senario intructions). You don't have to watch for red lights along the way as it said "Traffic is clear". You do the same on car machanic.. lol
You can also contact the signaller using F1 - Task list, look at right hand side of your screen. Should be a telephone icon with a arrow which denotes which way you wish to proceed which is relevant to you driving cab. It will tell you if it safe to proceed or not.
I know you're problem. If you hit Tab at that red signal it will send a request to the imaginary operator to see if you can pass. A dialog box will then pop up saying something like 'Request to pass signal at danger approved' and you can go forward and be on your merry way. Great video by the way!
I didn't know they changed the design of the carriages. The last time I've been on a train was ages ago, and I only remember them looking like the way in the video, the way you say that is much better. I liked it definitely. But I haven't seen the new design.
100 mph is the lowest speed of any vehicle in the rake. In this case I suspect the coaches have a maximum rated speed of 100 mph. The Class 67 is itself rated for 125 mph.
Probably right, those carriages look like Mk 1 or maybe very early Mk 2, so likely they are restricted to 100mph, and with the extra traffic they had to be pressed in from the reserves.
+Jacob Woods Also the Mk 1 and Mk 2 are relatively unsafe in terms of a crash so most of the slam door trains were discontinued. Also they used hand operated doors which do not have central door locking and are not dda complaint. Even the hsts are now receiving sliding plug doors.
The nice sounding "bing" when the signal is green is just to let you know it's green so you don't have to clear it. An "avoid" is a line that avoids something. So in the case of Didcot, it avoids the main Didcot line.
Also UK signal work as follows. A Double Yellow means next signal will be a single yellow. A Single Yellow means next signal will be Red. A flashing Yellow (double or single) signal means that you will be changing onto a different line.
Oh you tripped the TPWS when you went through the red light at 28:03. Which will stop the train if you go through a red light. Plus you where supposed to be doing only 100mph tops so when you came to Reading the high speed line which you would be switched to would be clear. So you had to sit and wait for that to happen.
The 100mph limit you saw at the start is the permitted limit for the train as I think you where pulling MK2 coaches, where as the 125mph is the line speed because of the HST's that run on the line can reach 125mph+.
double amber will normally come before single amber unless the situation changes ahead. The white lights above some signals are called feathers and they tell you that your about to change lines and in the direction they point.
Also, the siding with a platform you passed is actually Didcot Railway Centre, the 4 track at Didcot is two slow two fast into London and out to Swindon, Bristol etc, the 3 Lion, Dragon and welsh one on the train is EWS's Class 67 Silver livery showing Britain, Scotland and Wales together, and finally the train is restricted to 100mph for safety and comfort reasons, even though the line speed is 125, you ignore it and stay at 100mph max. :)
Squirrel the train lights go- Green, Dubble Yellow , single Yellow , Red. It will never go Dubble Yellow the Red. Also you don't need to clear the AWS on a Green light. Hope this helps :)
Drove past Didcot last week on the A34. Also please may you show a small camera of your controller in the corner? Like on a live-stream? Great video, as always :)
Also the station has been completely redone in the last few years, its now a huge steel and glass fly over - looks very nice, similar to an airport terminal.
The Reading station in this game is the old one. Also press 9 to see the map which will show you if a point is set against you or press TAB to request to pass at danger
Dasquirrelnuts, there are to lines from oxford to discord, one going into the station and one avoiding it, that's why the 'up' line (up lines go towards London/main cities, down the opposite way) is an avoiding line
it does not spoil my day but night. i live like 150 feet from a 5 track station with all kinds of trains going all around the clock. But you get use to it :-)
Green: Next three sectors are clear. AWS ping, no alarm. Double Yellow: Next two sectors are clear. Slow down if you need to. AWS alarm. Single Yellow: Next sector is clear. Definitely slow down and expect red at next signal. AWS alarm. Red: Stop. If stationary for seemingly too long, contact control (i.e. press tab). Always has an AWS alarm. There are also TPWS alarms etc, but you don't need to worry about these -- it essentially warns you without a signal if it thinks you're going too fast for an upcoming speed restriction or red aspect ahead.
DaSquirrelsNuts You don't need to clear the AWS on a Green light / bing sound and the order of the signals is: Green>Double Yellow>Single Yellow>Red If you're stuck at a red signal for a while, click the phone ahead button on the right of the task log screen to contact the signaller and ask for permission to pass
"Up" Is the tracks direction (Northbound) "Avoid" is a set of tracks that avoids a station or a set of points. "Go via" means that you shall simply pass the task and not stop at it "Go via Didcot Up Avoid" = "Travel on the northbound Didcot avoid track without stopping"

This has probably been pointed out by loads of other people by now, but in case it hasn't; you first get a double yellow, to indicate that two signals from now it's not clear to pass, so then if the next one is yellow you know you have to stop at the coming light. Then of course the game can screw with you like it did and clear the red signal as soon as you come up to it, waisting your time.

Your squirrel logo is nicely positioned in the upper right corner inside the cab and looks like it has been made to fit the interior.
The thing on the side of the loco is the EWS logo (English Welsh and Scotish). So one of them is a lion. And a double yellow light means the next might be a yellow and a single yellow means the next will be a red.

They don't use these type of carriages anymore which are Mk 2, now they use mk3 and sometimes mk4
I dreamed with this since the last Train Simulator video
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but Didcot Up Avoid is track that avoids Didcot station meaning that they can go past at high speed. :)

You don't need to clear the AWS on a Green light / bing sound
and the order of the signals is: Green>Double Yellow>Single Yellow>Red
If you're stuck at a red signal for a while, click the phone ahead button on the right of the task log screen to contact the signaller and ask for permission to pass
Have you tried London Underground sim Circle line its got a bit more freedom in it!
The word "avoid" in railway terms means non stop. The logo on the side of the loco is EWS (England Wales Scotland).
Please do more steam locos. I love your train sim videos keep up the good work.
"Up" Is the tracks direction (Northbound)
"Avoid" is a set of tracks that avoids a station or a set of points.
"Go via" means that you shall simply pass the task and not stop at it
"Go via Didcot Up Avoid" = "Travel on the northbound Didcot avoid track without stopping"
One of the two lines is for the local service, one for the ones that only slop at London, Oxford etc.
Missed these!!
You can, with TAB or TAB+CTRL ask for permission to pass red signals at danger. Sometimes that can get you trough glitches or long waits.
Do More of these please!!! love this!!!
The up avoidbit means, you are avoiding the platform at didcot
Thanks
The platform in the siding as you said Is dicot railway center. A small railway Museum.
Man you are really good in trains! Impresive

Hah, we still have that passenger coach interior design in Poland :D (the 6 person one, but it's changing slowly)
Nice one Paul!

i live near reading and the station has just had a massive revamp
I love the bridge sound
YAY MORE TRAIN SIMULATOR!
10:00 I didn't know that the Oxford police were replacing their sirens with cheap alarm clocks!
That's not the police car siren - it's the railway level crossing alarms.

Way to go Paul! Greetings ftom Italy!
Funny you happen to have done a Train Sim Paul. I've been meaning to ask about the controller you got awhile back.
Ews stands for English welsh and Scottish railway ( freight )
And it's now owned by DB, hints why there are less EWS locos and more DB's in the uk now...
I know that it's just to keep things simple
Why can't it be.. English, Scottish and Welsh? As Scotland is obviously next to England, just like Wales. ESW would sound better and undoubtedly that would mean that the logo would obviously be in alphabetical order.
Natalie Hart I dont know, but its no longer EWS/ESW/SWE/WSE/SWE. As its now owned by famous german train company DB.
You may find some locos/Rolling stock in EWS/ESW/SWE/WSE/SWE livery.
There again, what would EWS be called if they had 5ft, 3' trains in NI??
:)
DaSquirrelsNuts
The Up Avoid means that you are avoiding the station in question, Down Avoid is going the other way and avoiding it
finaly some train simulator
Just so you know, here is the basic signal line up
Green = clear ahead
Double Amber = early warning of a single amber
Single Amber = warning that the signal ahead will be red
Red = signals stop, if its red then it means the line ahead is not clear
Dude plz make more video of this its awsome
the plateform is for a steam train rides and history for first great western next to the station of Didcot parkway
Oxfordshire is home of "The Shire" from LOTRs and Hobbit. I love living here!
They still have a lot of trains with compartments in Germany and Czech Republic
I live in Oxford!
Good for you
So do I, whoopee fucking shit!
Natalie I know!
Finally, after a double yellow its always a single yellow, so don't worry about a red until after you see a single yellow not a double.
DaSquirrelsNuts please read, how to understand TS2014 signals better.
I live in England and the St Helens trains and Liverpool trains still have the tables :D
Are you gonna play the New Haven line route when it comes out?
Love these videos plz do more
