- Today I hop in a Class 67 diesel electric locomotive and take a bunch of football fans heading to the FA Cup final from Oxford down to London. I shall be calling at Reading, Slough and ending in Ealing Broadway. This is a 4/5 difficulty rated journey... but why?

a flashing single or double yellow indicates that a train is to take a diverging route ahead with a lower line speed than the main route, indicating to the driver to slow the train down in time for the speed limit of the diverging route. A flashing double yellow means that the next signal is showing flashing single yellow. A flashing single yellow means that the next signal at the junction is showing (steady) single yellow with an indication for a diverging route, and the signal after (in advance of) the junction may be red. When the train has neared the junction and slowed down, the junction signal will 'step up' to the correct aspect depending on the state of the line ahead.
The signals actually go green > double yellow > single yellow > red.

Thanks! I wanted to know about the signals. +1 like
That's so awesome. no sarcasm
I have Railway Simulator 2007 and it says:
2 yellow lights means "Be prepared to stop after the next signal."
1 yellow light means "Stop at the next signal."
+Lobo Wikipedia
Lobo that was a great Essay
The signals were at Red because they are controlled, meaning they only change when a train is nearby and a route has been set by the signaller. Also signals go Green->Double Yellow->Yellow->Red. A flashing yellow means you are taking a diverging route
The exclamation mark on the HUD in the bottom of the screen, lights up when the AWS is activated so you don´t have to be inside the cab all the time
Double yellow signal means slow down as approaching a red in two signals. Single yellow light means stop at next signal. Flashing yellows means that you are changing routes and on new route be prepared to stop
That awkward moment squirrel finds out the light is screaming "YOU SHALL NOT PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASS!"
Actually you can press "9" to see a map of the track. It's quite useful to figure out whether the red is "true" (with a train coming the other way) or not.
Signals are set red by standard btw.
On the hud, when there is a yellow-black sign, you have to hit the AWS-button.
Flashing yellow means you are going for the diverging track, and double yellow means the next signal is yellow only.
Hope it helps!
if you ever do that rout again you could try taking the engine of the platform so you are face to face with the signal
Your top speed is 100mph. Although the line speed was 125 you were not supposed to break 100mph. Because you did, you arrived at Reading early - hence the wait for a green light
Also the way to sightsee in career mode is to keep an eye on the signals down in the bottom, and then switch to the cab view when a signal comes up, if its green you jump back out, if its anything but green you stay in cab till its green.
At 29:20 the "stray" AWS is a warning form the "Speed restriction ahead" sign, at 29:25, the downward pointing triangle is the sign to which the AWS magnet is alluding to, the arrow pointing to the right under the triangle indicates that the speed restriction is for the turn out to the right, As others have said the flashing yellows are a warning of an up coming route divergence.
The reason why you sat at Reading for like an hour was because of that HST, which has priority as it is only stopping at London Paddington, and you will be put on the fast line too, but as his journey requires no stop at Slough yet yours does, his gets priority. It is exercising your judgement into what you think is the problem, that is the reason for the difficulty level.
DaSquirrelsNuts please read. Thanks I hope you understand.
*****
another reason is HST is regular train..so signals are allocated to it are fixed...you train is like a freight train..when you have free slot u use it..all holiday specials work this way through out the world...
You know what they've got in Slough? Renaults.

03:19 had me chuckling. Love your videos.
You weren't supposed to get to reading as fast as you did cause you were only supposed to go at 100mph but you went over so you had to wait longer
- Love yer entuiasm despite the fact yer dont exatly knows what yer goin into - and yer commentary takes the wiever right on, love it.
But awesome video again, and i love to follow yer adventures here and in car mechanic sim and ETS2.
Next time press tab ;)
Requests to pass signal at danger (If its broken or taking a while)
Bridge Ducking Simulator 2014!!
The flashing aspects were designed to give the driver advance warning that the junction signal ahead is showing a 'proceed' aspect applicable to the diverging route. Where there is more than one diverging route, the flashing aspects only refer to the highest speed divergences. A flashing single yellow aspect means "Preliminary Caution - Be prepared to find the next signal displaying one yellow light, with a route indication for the highest speed diverging route". Where provided, the flashing double yellow aspect means "Proceed - Next signal displaying flashing single yellow" and is an indication of a diverging route ahead of the next but one signal.
YES!!! Make a video of you going on a steam train! DO WHATEVER, just do it.
He should do a huge American steam locomotive!
DO A STEAM LOCO PLZ
whrm3 This game does have the Big Boy in it right? If so he needs to make a video of that going up Sherman hill.
Christian Southworth Or of a cab forward going up donner pass
Geek guy And Collector Or a J3A roaring down the NYC mainline.
7:00-The reason for the two different painted locomotives is the one you are driving is what we in America call Heritage unit, a specially painted locomotive. the one at the back is a stranded EWS 67 Class locomotive.
Green - Clear, you may proceed normally.
Double yellow - Preliminary caution, the next signal is displaying a single yellow aspect.
Single yellow - Caution, be prepared to stop at the next signal.
Red - Danger/Stop
HOW COULD SOMEONE DISLIKE THIS ITS SQUIRREL LIKE REALLY!? COME ON!!!!!!! good vid :)when you doing euro truck again

I really like the sound of that horn plus I really badly want that 67
Btw the red 67 is a common one where as the grey one is a more rare one
Flashing yellow aspects[edit]
Sequence of signals where flashing yellow aspects are in use, when the line is clear throughout

Flashing Yellows are A Warning of Changing Tracks and Speed on Main Line Routes in the UK, as i Commented on the 1st Part. After Slough you had a train on the Same track with the Absolute block Signalling System on Signaler will not be allow to have Two Trains on the Same Block, Between Signals, and its completely safe, the signal wouldn't be clear if the other train was on the same block, AWS warning can be set up for Speed reduction warnings as well as signals. And the Only reason you dont go to Wembly is because to get there you would have to exit the Great Western Mainline after Acton Mainline Station which is off This Line
Squirrel, the place before Slough was Maidenhead because you crossed the river Thames over Brunel's railway bridge with the sounding arch.
A flashing yellow aspect means you will be changing track, you will get a double flashing yellow, a single flashing yellow then a green signal with a feather indicating which direction you will be changing track to.
Was I the only one shouting CLICK TAB! SPAD! at my computer when he was stuck at reading?
I have just did same video I thought there was something wrong with signal at Reading as well mate so I haven't done second part. Good videos mate anyway keep up the good work.
The mystery station you wondered about was Twyford. Nice place, actually.
Flashing lights mean changing tracks
2 yellow flashing lights mean changing tracks in 2 points and 1 is changing next set of points
Hahaha, emergency brake simulator? Still love you, dude. Entertaining as always :)
Here you go.

It was one of them loco's last week at work that destroyed a rail and set of points that I'll be renewing lol
"Duck under the bridge", and "Duck under the lights"; you were bored, weren't you, Paul.
Flashing single and double yellows mean that you're approaching a diverging track with a lower speed limit. Flashing double yellow means the next signal is flashing single yellow, which means the next signal is show a steady yellow meaning that the diverging route up ahead with a possible red signal.
A double yellow light is advanced warning of a single yellow. Flashing signals were introduced associated with high speed trains though I don't know if that is the reason here as some others have indicate different.
A flashing single or double yellow aspect indicates that a train is to take a diverging route ahead with a lower line speed than the main route
As some people already mentioned, you can hit the TAB key to see if the game will allow you to conduct a SPAD (Signal Pass At Danger). Keep this mind as it can be crucial if you are going at 100 MPH and less than a quarter of a mile away from a red signal. If the SPAD is approved, you just saved yourself from failing the scenario.
Anyway, what I wanted to mention is that you probably got to the station early because you went over the speed limit. While the track speed limit was over 100 MPH, the scenario indicated that the train's speed limit is 100 MPH. Meaning you probably shaved off a lot of time which explains the red signal. There is a difference in speed limit for both the train and the track.
Finally, other than hitting TAB you could check the map using the 9 key I believe. Sometimes, a train might be crossing the track that you are running on or simply a slow moving train ahead of you and you will be able to see the train on the map.
Thanks you for the videos.
Love how you want to make everything correct on ETS2 but in Train Simulator you blast by signals with 110 mph without even looking at them :)

I believe you was stuck at the red light because you arrived too early from travelling over 100mph as per the instructions. Great videos it's good to see TS back
Toot toot! Hahahahaha your funny. LOL at floating scenery.
You were speeding the whole way in part 1 - Didn't the instructions say 100mph max?? that's why you had the red
It did make me jump, ace jump scare.
Love & Universal Respect Ending Never.
Thanks. Enjoyed your video very much.
Go to the Great Central Railway in Leicester. Its a great scenic route and plenty of steam trains !!
DaSquirrelsNuts Whenever the next signal is not in sight and you suspect it to be a Red signal, Press Tab(Request to Pass Signal at Danger or something like that). It will either say approved or denied. If no message pops-up next signal is not Red. Hope it helps :)
I know why they were all red, cause you were at 'READ'ing station
hue hue hue hue hue
This should help clear up the signal issues!

Hey squirrel, a flashing signal means you need to take a diversion with a lower track speed than normal. Great video BTW.
*6:09** " See I wanna go talk to Mr Squishy Head over there "*
If he understood the mini-map looking thing at the bottom he'd realize where the lights are.
The reason you keep getting caught out by the AWS in 3rd person camera is because you turn off the bottom panel. On the bottom panel there is an ! button which will light up to tell you of an AWS warning that you need to respond to.
If you press the TAB key when you're at a red signal, sometimes you get approval to pass the signal at danger.
Squirrel, the flashing yellow indicates a line change up ahead with a speed change.
Squirrel! It is double yellow before single yellow! Green-double yellow-single yellow-red
Just wondering, are you going to do a video on Assetto Corsa with the AI tweaks and the addition of a few new cars and race weekends. It's now version 0.85
I was on a train to Sydney from Bathurst NSW Australia. The train was already one hour late. on the outskirts of Sydney around about 9 o'clock at night, The train suddenly applied emergency brake...
Then there was an announcement... We had hit a person. we waited on the train for a hour thankfully it was dark so we didn't see the mess The guy survived. When we got to Sydney it was 11 o'clock at night, The train was four hours late. Not to mention that one of the trains engines were shut off due to mechanical problems. It could of been worse.
the river at around 12 mins is the river thames... starts small before London
Im guessing this is an add-on for train simulator 2014? If so what is the add-n exactly called ? would love to get this add-on as the class 67 is a brilliant locomotive! This is a realistic scenario with everything at red at the beginning. From my experience the signals are generally left on red if no traffic is present by the signaller unless theyre automatic signals of course! Great video!
Where in Devon are you going? The Dartmouth railway is nice!
On FS Pilot shop there is a interesting route. Its a high speed route in China (Chengdu Suining), with rolling stock, its very interesting to get out of the 3 token countries of TS2014.
Hi squirrel, because you are not doing it in career mode there will not be a time that you have to be at the stations.
Also when stuck at red lights sometimes if you push the tab button on the keyboard it may allow you to proceed through the red.
wingardium logiosa xD 21:55
graphics look only very average.. what time scale can you run this sim at? 1:1? The main reason I don't play Euro truck anymore.. the short time scale and small world map just doesn't make the sim feel legit..
OMG I LOVE PLAYING BRIDGE DODGING OMG!
There's a reason for the 100 mph limit. It's the maximum allowed speed for the mk2 cars you are pulling.
More love to see you play train sim
If you are going on a steam train in Devon, may I suggest the Paignton and Dartmouth railway.
The platform at slough is actually long enough because u don't need to put the driver's carriage on the platform just those passenger ones I think
On the mini map hud thing it shows the light changes that are for your route
SquirrelNuts, Your train itself is limited to 100 mph. The main reason was because the MK2 Coaches wern't designed to go up to 125mph... so even if the line speed is 125 you must stay under 100 :)
Do some more flight sim plz, i love those :)
Hello Squirrel! Greetings from Greece! Your videos are great but I would like you to do some more steam! I can't wait to see your next video!!
The reason you where standing at reading for so long is that inthe real world, you would of been a specially chartered train for the football. As train timetables are agreed a year in advance by national rail, your train was waiting to jump into a busy timetable on the great western main line from bristol/cardiff to paddington.
A double yellow flashing light means that there could be a red up ahead and proceed with caution
I like all your videos
I thought there's an AWS Reset button in the train? Wouldn't that reset it so the emergency brake releases?
oh and a flashing yellow light (double or not) means a route diversion, i.e changing paths
hi I just got train simulator 2014 and i have all us trains do u have to buy all the other one like steam and diesel plz help
The red light and wait is probably because you were early. It gave you a 100 mph speed limit but you were going 115+
passengers on the back carriages would be able to get off as when a train is approaching a platform that is too small to support then length of the train an announcement is made telling passengers who want to get off to move forward to one of the front carriages
Google tells me that the flashing yellow signal means you will be changing lines onto a line with a lower speed limit than the main line.
When there is a speed reduction there will also be a aws bleep to remind you.
Does he skip the loading screen or does it just load that all fast?
what a ride
railway signals are always red when there is no train on the segment about to pass.
the red engine at the back is a freight train and a perfect choice as a power pusher at rear of the train without it the train would not get upto 100mph
The river Thames runs through Reading Paul.
Double yellow means that you have single yellow ahead
And single yellow means that the next signal is definitely red
More FSX and Train sim PLZ!!
''Finally , he turned yellow ! i sat here for like 8 minutest'' actually it were 2 :D
hey squirrel what's your intro music
EWS paint their trains that red colour to match their coal wagons (They supply my local power station along side Freightliner doing biomass)
22:02 I believe it's "unobtanium" :)
