Three major mistakes: 1. You have to do Iron Maiden “Live”! 2. Cannot use single earbuds with this band. 3. Never, ever, ever, ever stop in the middle of a guitar solo. Still a good reaction

Iron Maiden are great musicians and their music often teaches about historical events and mythology. For instance Flight of Icarus (Greek Mythology), Aces High (WW2 pilots during the battle of Britain), Rime of the ancient mariner (Based on a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge), The Trooper (Is about the Crimean War and more specifically Lord Tennyson's poem about the Battle of Balaclava). There are many more examples but I'm sure you get the idea. Loved the reaction and hope you keep going down the Iron Maiden rabbit hole!

@@dillonsronce2583 Yes! One of their best songs. Those solos are the chef's kiss. The storytelling.. Bruce was on fire on that album Somewhere in Time. Also, yes, the story in Alexander the Great is accurate. "Powerslave" is also a great one for storytelling.

Iron Maiden is a very a melodic heat metal band. Jus like great rock and pop groups, they actually create melodies that you can dance and groove too. They are not a thrash band. They actually creates nice sounding tunes backed by by screaming guitars, galloping basslines and classic heavy metal drums.

    Greatest metal band ever.
They’re very well known for the tempo and key changes. They produce a lot of complex music that is very intellectual in composition and topics (lyrics).
You’ll get a lot of great callouts from folks, especially on their earlier albums. I actually prefer some of their later albums and songs - Dream of Mirrors, Holy Smoke, (the very fun and written / recorded in 2 hours) Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter.
My favorite, though, is Pachendale, which tells the story of one of the most brutal battlefields of WWI - where as many men died drowning in the mud as from enemy fire. Bodies are still being found as of the mid 1990s.

I've been listening to Iron Maiden since 1982, at the age of 15. Up the Irons!
    Iron Maiden is:
Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Born: August 7, 1958 (age 64 years) Started with Iron Maiden in 1981, left in 1993 and rejoined in 1999 and present singer
Steve Harris - Bassist and Founder Born: March 12, 1956 (age 67 years), Started the band in 1975 and has never left
    Dave Murray - Guitarist Born: December 23, 1956 (age 65 years), 1976-1977, 1978- present
    Adrian Smith - Guitarist Born: February 27, 1957 (age 66 years), 1980-1990, 1999-present
    Janick Gers - Guiarist Born: January 27, 1957 (age 66 years), 1990 - present
    Nicko McBrain - Drums Born: June 5, 1952 (age 70 years), 1982 - present
The next songs I'd recommend when you get around to Iron Maiden again are:
Iron Maiden - Hallowed By Thy Name - Live Beast Over Hammersmith version.
Iron Maiden -- Phantom of the Opera (Live at the Rainbow 1980 - with first singer Paul DiAnno
Rime of the Ancient Mariner Flight 666 DVD
    Alexander the Great w/lyrics
    Flight of Icarus (Official video)
The Clansman - (Rock In Rio 2001)
Dance Of Death - En Vivo!
as well as any of the ones listed below. Of course there are other songs but since this is my list, this is the ones I recommend
Highlight of songs and what they are about that I'd recommend are:
    From Iron Maiden album------
Phantom of the Opera - A must for live version
Strange World (this one will be totally different Iron Maiden)
    From Killers album------
Murders in the Rue Morgue (Very loosely influenced by Edgar Allen Poe's short story, a story of a fugitive being sought for murder)
Genghis Khan (an instrumental - perfect for air drumming)
Innocent Exile (continues the theme of Murders in the Rue Morgue of an unjustly accused fugitive)
Killers (A journey into the twisted mind of a deranged killer)
Prodigal Son(about a repentant man reminiscent of the prodigal son parable found in Luke 15 of the bible)
Purgatory(lyrics of song read like a poem)
Drifter (focuses on the possibility of new beginnings)
From The Number of the Beast album ------
Invaders (It graphically depicts the violence and horror of a defense against a Viking invasion)
The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s)
22 Acacia Avenue (The continuation of Charlotte the Harlot)
The Number of the Beast (Inspired by a dream Bassist Steve Harris had after watching the movie the Omen2)
Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading white soldiers)
Hallowed be Thy Name (about a man who is about to be put to death and what he goes through)
    From Piece of Mind------
Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps
Revelations (Starts with the Hymnal from Oh God of Earth and Alter, the next two verses on the Hindu philosophy, the third verse in Yoga a snake called Kundalini that lives at the base of your spinal cord, during meditation a spiritual entity is created symbolizing the transcendental union with God)
Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus)
The Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War) ***You've done
To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert)
    From Powerslave------
Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII)
2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World
Back in The Village (The continuation of the song The Prisoner)
Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain)
Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (story about about an ocean voyage)
    From Somewhere in Time-------
Wasted Years (A song about the admonition to appreciate the present and not to take things for granted)
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film
Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great
From 7th Son of a 7th Son (a concept album)------
Infinite Dreams (Detailing someone who is tormented by paranormal dreams and nightmares)
The Evil That Men Do (Title taken from a quote in Shakespeare Julius Caesar but the song is unrelated)
The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the 7th Son of the 7th Son on his life and his powers)
    From Fear of the Dark------
Wasting Love (About the emptiness of relationships without love. Another Maiden ballad)
Fear of the Dark (About being afraid of the dark and the things in the dark that might be there - absolute a live performance for this one)
    From Brave New World------
The Wicker Man (about the apathy of our modern society and our egotistic disinterest of what is happening until something happens to us)
Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death)
Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley)
Dream of Mirrors (Yet another song about reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams)
Out of the Silent Planet (Supposedly inspired by the 1956 science -fiction film Forbidden Planet)
    From Dance of Death------
No More Lies (The lyrics deal with someone knows his time has come with the possibility of reincarnation)
Dance of Death (Orinally inspired by Ingmar Bergman's 1957 film The Seventh Seal - Another one to do as a live performance)
Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI)
From A Matter of Life and Death------
Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age)
The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion)
Out of the Shadows (About being born)

Great reaction, but just a side note, NEVER pause during a guitar solo, especially in Metal or Thrash music. Many people can get upset about it. Many of Iron Maidens' songs are like history lessons, so, as per some of the other comments, rather use earphones in both ears. Better experience and you'll probably be able to hear the vocals a lot better.

It was fun to watch your reaction to this timeless metal classic. Bruce Dickenson has amazing vocal skills. This IS a story about a man 'on death row'. Check out the lyrics as you listen to it again. Please do the live version SOON. You're gonna love it.
I'm waiting in my cold cell when the bell begins to chime
Reflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much time
'Cause at five o'clock they take me to the gallows pole
The sands of time for me are running low
    Running low, yeah
When the priest comes to read me the last rites
Take a look through the bars at the last sights
Of a world that has gone very wrong for me
Can it be that there's some sort of error?
Hard to stop the surmounting terror
Is it really the end, not some crazy dream?
Somebody please tell me that I'm dreaming
It's not easy to stop from screaming
But words escape me when I try to speak
Tears fall, but why am I crying?
After all, I'm not afraid of dying
Don't I believe that there never is an end?
As the guards march me out to the courtyard
Somebody cries from a cell, "God be with you"
If there's a God, why has He let me go?
As I walk, my life drifts before me
And though the end is near, I'm not sorry
Catch my soul, it's willing to fly away
Mark my words, believe my soul lives on
Don't worry now that I have gone
I've gone beyond to seek the truth
When you know that your time is close at hand
Maybe then you'll begin to understand
Life down here is just a strange illusion
    Yeah, yeah, yeah
    Hallowed be thy name
    Yeah, yeah, yeah
    Hallowed be thy name

You know, this IS what heavy metal in the traditional sense sounds like. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio, Saxon, Accept and Manowar - well seasoned musicians playing meticulously composed songs with soaring, superlative vocals on top. Bands like, say, Pantera are only heavy metal in an extended, more recently established sense. Nothing wrong with Pantera, obviously, but when we Europeans use the term "heavy metal", we will most likely be referring to the Iron Maiden type of sound. And we being the creators and, to this day, champions of metal in every way, shape and form, we're kind of authorities on the subject 🙂

Maiden have always been great storytellers regarding their lyrics. You should check the song When the Wild Wind Blows from the record The Final Frontier. It is for me a very underrated song and record btw. The song have all the great elements a Maiden song need. Catchy guitar harmonies, clear bass that keeps the groove and shines from time to time and a text that sucks you in and just make you listen. :D

70s and 80s metal was the best. Metal has taken a very strange turn since the 90s. I like very little of the metal that has come out during and since the 90s.

If you both use a set of earplugs/headphones each, you'll probably hear the vocals much better. You're sitting with the Left/Right stereo channel in your ear, and your better half has the other side. The vocals are mixed in the middle of the stereo soundscape. You're also only hearing one of the guitar players each, as they are panned to each side. You simple can't listen to heavy metal with one earpiece. It's like watching a movie with foggy glasses FFS.

What a Band Iron Maiden are!!
They're skill on their instruments is unmatched and their live shows are pure joy.
Steve Harris is considered one of the best bass players of all time and he writes almost all of their songs with either Bruce Dickinson (Vocals) or Adian Smith ( guitarist/ first solo player )
Dave Murray ( guitarist/ second solo player ) is a hero of mine and has been apart of the band since its created back in the mid 70s along with founder Steve Harris.
Such an amazing collection of songs for you to get into. Enjoy your journey into the Iron Maiden world.

The pace of Iron Maiden songs are reffered to as the canter and gallop like a horse. When they hit the solos its time for the gallop like a horse breaking into a sprint. Some tracks are all gallop though.

You guys found Gold.. one of the best metal bands of all time.. incredible song writing (steve harris, bass player).. Amazing vocals (bruce dickinson).. and two guitars that are VERY tight with each other.. Nicko McBrain on drums.. SHOULD be in the Hall of Fame. but.. whatever.

7:37. That’s what’s so great about Iron Maiden, they are certainly a hard rock/metal band…but incredibly melodic and have such catchy grooves.
    Insanely talented musicians.
They go so hard but are also so very melodically pleasing.

I agree with going studio album first. A true "reaction" video is reacting to it the way we would have back in the day.
Then go live if it's something you wish to pursue. It's gotta be an organic progression or why bother.

Ok two things as a new subscriber, from what I have seen. Just suggestions. 1. Each should always have their own headphones/ear pods. Some music comes on one side other misic comes from the ever. I dont suggest using only one pair. 2. Try not to pause during solos lol. Great reaction thank you. See y'all

If you want to check something entirily different out, made by Iron Maiden, go check the record out called The X Factor. I love the darkness, the use of clean and acoustic guitars and Blazes deep vocal. Also the cover is killer.
Btw they also had another lead sing in the two first records. His name is Paul D Anno. Diffrent voice compared to Bruce Dickinson and Blaze, but still great and fits the kinda punkish feel some of the songs have to it. :D

I just remmebered how great Clive Buurs drumming was. You should check the song Invaders out. It opens this great masterpiece of an album. The guitar melody in the chorus is kinda a turn of for alot of Maiden fans i think. But i just think it gives something catchy to the overall song. :D xD

Also I’d say stick to your plan as far as listening order - i.e. studio version vs live version. While it is sometimes the case that live versions are fire - imho the studio versions on many many tracks are usually better than the live versions.
