Wailing Souls.. The Wailers should have had more artists record for their labels. Their early sound of this era was so pure and strong even DJS like Johnny Lover sound wicked & ruff over them riddims deh!!!
But at the time Tuff Gong (& the Wailers) weren't a big name production wise & weren't yet financially solid -& as you say that had some good Johnny Lover (& Big Youth ,URoy tracks) . If they could have come to a split agreement with Lee Perry there could have been more top deejays over Wailers rhythms like Big Youth on 'Moving on' & U Roy's 'Dreamland' as Alimantado, Dillinger , I Roy ,Dave Barker were used to working with those style rhythms...
@@ZIONHIGHER it seemed like Bob & the Wailers seemed to miss out from the mid 70s onwards ,as they would have JA mixes of flip sides like 'RAT RACE' but missd out on using deejays on the rhythms which especially when in London would have served his JA fans . There was a popular deejay version of 'Waiting in vain' (?) ,but I can't remember that many Tuff Gong deejay singles - though he did a whole lp for Martha Valez !
@@andchat6241 There's a I-Roy song on the Talkin' Blues riddim, but I don't know if it was released on the Tuff Gong label. Song name: Straight to the heathen head.
Crazy to think it'd be almost a decade before they str8 niced up the Rub-a-Dub sound, big time! Big Respect to Bionic Mon for sharing this 💎 with us💥💥🔥
@@Chad-ye3ui - I got a copy of 'Wailing' thru the unofficial 'Corn-fed' label a while back & the quality & sound of these discs is incredible ( he's a professional sound engineer) & it also had the 10min 12" of 'Kingdom rise......' & other 12"s like 'see baba joe' & 'very well' , 'war' etc added....
Yes, as Pipe and the Pipers, trying to avoid confusion with The Wailers. They also recorded a nice version with Roots Radics in 1981 for Nighthawk Records.
I'm crazy about the other version of this song on Soul & Power that apparently came out a whole 10 years later, but this is nice too. The bassline sounds a bit like Cherry Oh Baby.
