    Great video! Your tabs lined up much better than mine. But I was in a tight closet and could not get high enough to see all four. I finally gave up and knocked the tabs down on one side and got out the industrial velcro. Got one side on the tabs and one side on the velcro.. I am the only one who will ever know! :) Works GREAT!

      Yes they are pain. Not much you can do in the closet but what helped us in the kitchen was I had a buddy holding up one side while I worked the tabs on the other side to get them in

    My wife wanted the kitchen light to be upgraded with one of these, and we are glad we did. Ours was not this brand but it is quite bright. I bought a Milwaukee 12 V Rocket light pole that puts out 1400 lumens. I liked it so much a few months later I bought the Milwaukee 18 V rocket pole Which puts out 2500 lm. They Both use batteries or AC. Extremely easy to set up. I’ve used them both on two ceiling fixtures recently. I heard your comment about just leaving the light on after you turned it on. I know what you mean. We have also use them recently when storms knocked the power out.

    Hi Jeff, when you pre-drill 4 holes in to the ceiling, what is size of the drill bit you used ? (Ez-Anchor screw size #8) , thanks

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't drill a hole, the EZ ancor has it's own drill bit on the end of the ancor and you drill the ancor directly into the drywall.

    Hey Jeff, on those color temp changing skylights you showed...wouldn't it be cool if you could set those to start at a lower temp when the sun comes up, full bright when the sun is overhead, and lower temp again as the sun sets to really simulate a skylight? Would work great with some under cabinet lighting for task lighting when it's early morning or night time. Right? And, girl #4 at the end...yup that tattoo and plaid shirt...wow! LOL

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, I don't have the instructions any more, so I can't tell if there's any warning about it. I can't think of any reason why you can't mount it on a wall.

  • @TomNouri
    @TomNouri 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Ours doesn’t sit flush just like urs. I took a 48” level to the ceiling and it sat perfectly flush but this fixture once on the mount sits with about a 1/4” gap on both ends. Mounting plate needs to be longer with locking mechanism that pulls fixture tight to ceiling.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes just like when you normally attach a fluorescent light fixture to the ceiling the screw holes are usually within a foot or so of the end of the housing so that it stays flush up against the ceiling

    • @RogerBrenon
      @RogerBrenon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These LED units don't get hot so you could use a thin double sided tape to flush up the ends.

    • @radby
      @radby 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can see in the video a little gap on the right. Drywall ceilings are not perfectly flat. These panels are huge. They should have better mounting. I was considering this light but I don't like the 4000k color. I'll probably settle for one from Lowes. They're expensive but the color and sizes are better. I did not see any spots on the ones on display at my local store...

    Skylight mimics need a fresnel lens for the light to mimic the directionality of sunlight. It's almost more important than the color being close to sunlight. You can DIY it by harvesting these lenses out of spare panel TV sets.

    Purchased a very similar skylight at home depot for $150, the very next day I went to Costco and saw this sky light for $39 with a $10 instant discount. So naturally I returned the Home depot one saved a lot of money. I must say this one is A LOT easier to install than the HD and a fraction of the cost. Just hope they last, they do have a 5 year warranty and Costco is really good at returns.

      The toggle anchors go straight into the drywall, at the places that you mark the holes. Then once the drywall anchors are in place, you line up the plate and from the screws through the screw holes and into the drywall anchors

I did go to lowes and look at their selection and did not see any of the problems you demonstrated in the video; maybe my local store has a lightening expert that can correct those types of problems, but I have seen the type of problems you pointed out with other type of products, such as going to a store at looking at TVs with many of them have a very bad video signal, thus making the TVs look worse than they probably are. You would think the store manager would care about product displays, but clearly no all store managers care or are paying attention.

If it's that hard what you should do and what I did at one of my installs was I was using my little gorilla platform and me and a buddy were standing on it and so he would hold one side of the light in place while I got the other side in and then once I was in we made sure his little notches made it into the slots and then we slid it that's that was the only way to do it.

    This light will gap, as posted from previous viewers - I get it. Still a good design. Question: What would you recommend for cricket/bug proofing the the recess hole and the gap left between the ceiling and light? These little critters in AZ love the walls and spaces in them from the attic and second floor spaces. This is there "Great Escape" into the wild indoors, crawling out of the hole and kamikaze-ing onto the kitchen counters and floor. Thanks : >)

      Fill it with Locktite white foam, let it cure for an hour or so to fill that cavity, shave off any extra.

    Where can I find anchors for less?
    23 bucks per on amazon.. makes this inexpensive light fixture pretty expensive..

    Hey Jeff what the best anchor for brick

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have used sleeve anchors, they have other masonry anchors also, or you can use Tapcons if you go only into the meat of the brick.

    Jeff I got a question for you, if I don’t have the electric box on the ceiling, and I use the anchors you are suggesting in this video, would you consider that safe? I’m not sure how much these lights weigh and would hate to have a accident. Your time is appreciated

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will yes this is safe if yo u use the anchors that fold out inside the drywall then tighten tot he back side of the drywall. The light has little weight to it anyway.

    Hello Jeff, first time watching your content. Thanks for doing this and helping poor souls like myself.
    I was hoping to ask for some guidance. I currently have a multiple tubelight (with ballasts) setup in the kitchen and all three are piggy backed off of each other. I was planning to install two of the Artika Skylights and I don't have a handle on how to connect the two Skylights. In other words, should I connect both Skylights to the same set of wires that are coming in or is there another configuration that should be followed? Please let me know if I didn't explain that clearly.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can connect them in parallel. but I think you can get away with one, have you tried it?

    • @jeffostroff

      Yes as long as it does not encroach into a shower or directly over a tub.

  • @Reubenhubert

    I bought and installed one in the garage. I used better drywall anchors than the ones supplied because I don't trust the plastic sleeve type.
    I only had one problem. I had to mount it about16 inches from the attic entry because of the location of the ceiling box. In order to keep it parallel to the entry I had to practically bend over backwards on the ladder because it's hard to read a tape measure overhead through the bottom of bifocals.
    Other than that it was a lot easier to mount than the four bulb fluorescent fixture I was replacing.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To me the pain is in sliding the whole light fixture into place around those 4 retaining clips

  • @stevenle1760
    @stevenle1760 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does yours sit flush to the ceiling at the ends? For some reason the ends of mine hang 1/2" or more at the ends, like my panel was bent

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      more like 1/4" sag, not too noticeable as most people don't look directly at the light. I do wish they would have has a better attachment mechanism to attach it at the ends so it won't sag.

    Just bought and installed this light. Very easy. Doesn’t light up the room as much as my led cloud but at least flies and bugs won’t get into the cover as it did with the cloud. Paid 39.99. 20.00 discount. I used the anchors that came with the kit and secured to the box. Don’t recommend the anchors. Watching your video as I’m typing. Thanks for the great videos Jeff.
