    For years I have been looking for learning about lighting in a home environment. People tend to miss out one lighting all the time and this plays a vital role in setting up the mood. If the lightings are not in place then the whole interior planning goes for a toss. Thank you for sharing all this knowledge/Tips.

    • @DSigners
      @DSigners  4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Hi Fausto, A True story, the same here! People usually invest a lot of money on furniture, textures, they look for specific colors, but they forget about the essential ingredient which is light. It's amazing how the perception of space changes when we use layered lighting. Thank you very much for your comment.

    Brava! Your lucid, straightforward presentation makes a complex subject understandable. I used this information to re-arrange and augment the lighting in my home, and it had a big positive effect on the feel of all the living spaces. Next, I applied these principles to design the lighting for my kitchen remodel. Because we had so many constraints on the new kitchen (make it functional, can't move walls, windows, ceiling, etc.), there was really only so much that could be done with the lighting. Even so, it could have gone terribly wrong if I just let the electrician pop a bunch of hockey puck LEDs into my ceiling and then leave! If I EVER hit the lottery and can build a custom home, I will bring the lighting architect into the planning process on day 1. Thank you again!

    Zahira! I just discovered your videos this evening and have watched five in a row. They are fantastic, as are you. :) I have always loved to design my spaces but don't have any technical understanding of why I like certain things or how to fix something that doesn't look or feel quite right. I've looked at plenty of decorating/design websites and books but nothing has been exactly what I'm looking for - until I found your videos. Thank you so much for the clear and concise way you explain so many elements of design. After only watching five videos I understand so much more of what I've been doing and why some things just don't/won't work. And on top of that you offer free downloads of helpful guides. Designing is one of my very favorite things to do and you just made it so much better for me. I'm looking forward to checking out your other content! THANK YOU!

    Hi Zahira,. I'd love to know some general guidelines about how to appropriately light a rectangular hallway (between bedrooms, bathrooms, & laundry). Things like size of lighting fixture(s) and or amount of light needed. Thank you

    • @DSigners
      @DSigners  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Tanya! No specific tasks are carried out in the hallway, they are circulation areas to connect the different spaces, so you don't need an important amount of light. but take into account the lighting of the surrounding areas to maintain a homogeneous level of luminosity. Regarding the type of light source, it will depend on your style and if the corridor can be seen from various points in the house. You can choose recessed ceiling or mounted lights or small chandeliers, that will depend on your style.

    Hi! Do you have suggestions for small spaces with limited lighting options especially if the units are rented out and couldn’t do much renovations? What would be the best ambient and task lighting for that scenario? Thanks!

    • @holohulolo
      @holohulolo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably standing lamps or table lamps that sit on top of the side tables. Stand lamps can both be ambient and task light. My understanding from the video is that task lamp just means it needs to be bright enough for the task you're performing. Ap having a standing lamp like ones with adjustable gooseneck or something like that can have 2 function, especially ones with dimmer. You shone them to the wall dimmed, to create ambient lighting or adjust it directly at whate er you're doing for task.

    Thanks for the video! Could you recommend the best/easiest way to create ambient lighting in a condo with concrete ceilings, where you're very limited in installing ceiling fixtures? We're thinking about track lights, but from your video I see it's considered more as accent lighting, and I'm worried that they'll beam right in the eyes and won't light up the room evenly. What would be your advice? I'm also considering standing lamps, but they usually aren't too bright and you need multiple for bigger rooms. Would love to get your suggestion!

    Wow! So kind of you to share this helpful information. The house I moved into is dark and depressing. Now I understand why! Most just have ambient light, most of which is undersized for the space.

    My question is... How to determine the amount light fittings to be used in a particular area??... For example I'm planning my living room of 1000 Sq ft area, how should I calculate the number of ceiling led lights..??

    • @DSigners
      @DSigners  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Well, this is a very good question, for a professional lighting design, there are different software to calculate it. I usually use Dialux (www.dial.de/en/dialux/)
      but, if you don't have the possibility of using that kind of software, don't' be stressed. My recommendation is that you evaluate your light bulbs, try them and experiment in the space since each space has a different height and colors that will make the perception different in each case. Always remember to take into account the activities you are going to do there. A very good option is to invest in smart lighting since you can control the quantity of lighting and color temperature of your light sources at any time, personally I no longer use light bulbs if they do not have these conditions because I can control the mood and appearance of my space from my smartphone. In my experience, it's an excellent choice.

    • @DSigners
      @DSigners  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hi Rita, Absolutely not. The ambient light can be obtained through floor lamps, table lamps, chandeliers, pendant lamps, ceiling-mounted lights, wall lamps. You can use different lighting sources of this kind to have the quantity of ambient lighting that you want for a specific space or area. For example, you can have a chandelier and floor lamps and table lamps for ambient lighting. About the kitchen LED lightings are always a good option because are more efficient and have a longer lifetime. If you have any other doubts don't hesitate to ask me. Have a beautiful day! xoxo

    First of all thank you so much for your videos that can uplift interior design knowledge from 0 to quite professional! My question is how to place switches around the house or more importantly should these layers have separate switches from each other or how? Thing is that if it is separate switch for each layer then we have tons of switches considering that some walls have switches for more areas than one.

    • @DSigners
      @DSigners  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Excellent idea, I will. Nothing compares to natural light, it's perfect and it's ideal to keep our circadian rhythm in harmony with our world. Nowadays artificial light is a must-have, it's true that to merge both artificial and natural is a key for a better living. Thanks for the suggestion, I will take in consideration for future videos.

    Thank u that was very helpful!❤ Zahira, u make me want to move to a new home in every video😂😭. I have a question though. The LED lights nowadays can be the whole spectrum. Red bleu indigo every single color. How that's affecting our perspective and mood? And how can we use it with out messing up with the colors in our room? (I mean the wall color the cushion colors and so on..)

    • @DSigners
      @DSigners  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Wow, that's a very good question! Sometimes we don't take seriously the importance of lighting. The lighting badly used can favor stress, insomnia or tiredness.
      I think it's always ideal to study nature and observe it to replicate it inside our spaces, natural light varies its "color temperature" during the day. Each color temperature makes us be more active or it serves to make us getting ready to slow down our nervous system according to the time of day.
      (Our circadian rhythm is in connection with the universe through light.) The conditions of the lighting in our spaces must be similar to the conditions of natural light. My recommendation is to use the smart LEDs that you mentioned to control the light according to our needs and time of the day.
      In my experience, colored light is not necessary, but you can incorporate it in an environment, always taking into account how the color of this light will affect your mood. There is even another professional part of lighting that uses light and its colors to do therapies against stress, insomnia, etc. I will need to make a video to explain all of that!! :D
