Do you like it? BUT BE AWARE! I DO NOT RECOMMEND Glass Birdcage for untamed or scared Budgies or any Birds, they can hurt himself when hitting it! The second most important thing about Glass/Acrylic/Plexi cages is Ventilation.
I'm planning to shift my 13 budgies into a larger cage/mini aviary kinda thing and stumbled onto this while looking for ideas. This is such a beautiful cage! And so well planned too (both for their comfort and ours while cleaning up). Totally loved it!
People saying that putting birds in a cage and taking away their freedom and stuff, these birds were given a home a loving owner that can teach them stuff and take good care of them....and by the way the same goes for every single pet, I'm pretty sure that each and every pet is going to be better in its habitat but no one ever said the dogs are better in the wild and so on.... having pets creates opportunities between mankind and pets to interact and learn about each other and generally having the best life.... however I think pet owners who take bad care of their pets should give them to a caring owner or sanctuary but don't do this man dirty and say he took their freedom and so on , the birds are literally flying around in the room the whole video and I'm pretty sure they're good friends with the owner, keep it up
of course a pet bird needs a cage, it's their home, and they cannot be similarly compared to birds in the wild, that's why they need a cage. Those people shouldn't be saying anything, because that information would give new bird owners a way to harm their new friend.
also people may mistake the reason why captive birds live way longer than wild birds. its not because captivity provides more sufficient nutrition and hygiene, its because captivity eliminates the constant stress from predators. birds are not domesticated animals such as dogs and cats, but that doesnt make them unviable as pets, you just have to adapt your approach to the animals. just like with bunnies people have as pets.
I found your channel today and I’m so glad I did!! My partner and I recently built a cage for our four English budgies. The measurement are 120 x 60 cm, and it’s 90 cm tall, so pretty close to what you built! We used mesh for our cage though. I like the idea of glass, it looks really nice! :) Super happy to find a budgie owner and youtuber out there who really has a passion for their birds, it makes me happy so see!
I make exact same cage at home for my wife & 15 year old boy .. we hv love birds .. i got so many hugs n kisses from my lovely family .. whoever visit my home loving this cage 😘😘 .. thanks for your video brother
You are a really good DIY-er! And its so great that you are inspiring people to make an effort for their birds. So many poor creatures spend their lives locked up in tiny boring cages. It's also really good that you show your birds free flying in the house. Hopefully this will encourage other pet owners to do the same - although people, you really need to make sure the rooms your birds fly in are safe for them! For those switching to glass or getting birds used to a new room with windows: you can safely teach your birds where the glass is by putting post-its on the surface. You need to pack them close together, but every few days you can remove a few until finally your birds learn where the glass is. There are also special UV pens you can buy which you can use to draw stripes on the glass. We can barely see it, but it's clear for birds. Also good for stopping wild birds from hitting your windows. I think its great you used textured and natural perches. That's really good for birds' feet. I like the light, but have you considered getting a special bulb for birds? They can see more of the light spectrum than us and normal bulbs do not emit this light. I guess bird bulbs almost feel like sitting in real sunlight to them We have one for our birds and in winter they love sitting under it. Finally, I think your new cage is almost perfect - except it probably should be higher. Birds generally don't feel comfortable sitting low down in cages - they feel safer when they are higher up. If you made the legs a little longer, so that the bottom of the cage was 50-60cm off the ground, I bet your birds would be happier. You could build a shelf underneath your cage and use the space to store all their stuff! Anyway, I wish you and your birdies well!
I would like to make one recommendation. I am not trying to say that this cage is bad or shouldn’t have been built. What my recommendation is that make adding more natural wood other than just one. Although that the way it is, it’s very functional but just thought maybe more natural wood would help with your birds feet. Other than that this cage is amazing! The budgies have a lot of room to play and interact. It’s very visible that you put a lot of work for your budgies! No hate. Just a recommendation. ❤️
I love it, I'd only do 3 sides glass though so I could have one wood sliding panel as an entire side in the back that I could stick festive wallpaper on (change it out for Christmas, spring, fall etc). I'm glad you made a slide out drawer!! They seem to like your apple tree branch best out of all of it
Nice cage for indoors. From a guy that raised hundreds of small birds and small parrots. And hand fed most of them. After feeding my young daughters would handle them so they got use to birds and the birds grew up unafraid of children fast movements and want to be with their human.
It definitely looks nice, but I wouldn't recommend this for pet owners unless you are certain your bird will be okay. For example, I have a budgie that is amazing at navigating rooms and can tell what windows and mirrors are so he would be fine. My others birds wouldn't because they can't tell what's glass and they frighten more easily. Besides the issue of ventilation, which you could add holes to, birds have a hard time telling if there is glass or if the room is open. If you've ever seen a bird hit a window, it thought there was nothing blocking the way. If you have birds that have nigh frights or startle easily, they may keep hitting the glass in their panic. Also be careful of the materials you use, e.g. paint, epoxy, etc. Paint in a well ventilated area away from your birds and make sure the paint is non-toxic. Make sure there aren't any sharp edges sticking out for your bird to hurt themselves on.
Not only that but especially with other birds that are around the same size as budgies could not be able to get around a glass cage safely. My lineolated parakeet for one would not be able to because he climbs everywhere! They may be named a parakeet but he’s sure as hell a lot more closer to a parrot! 😅 I’m gonna look into making a wire one with a wood back instead! ☺️
He uses gel, pet safe gel, also if your birds can’t tell what glass is, just put on some stickers or something that will prevent them from hitting the windows.
Merci pour le partage 👍 C'est vraiment bien, et vous avez pensé à tout. On voit que vous aimez vos oiseaux, pour leur faire ce bel espace de vie . Félicitations
