    Great to see someone that didn't skip all the gear.

    That's really cool man. I started riding later in life (around 37) and on an aprilia as well. Almost 2 years later and I'm on my second bike but still love my aprilia. You did well for no prior experience alot of people would have stalled a few times. Keep going!

      Thanks for the support! I guess it comes from experience with cars. Engine load and clutch biting point concepts work the same way.

    Congratulations!
    Got my first bike a couple of weeks back as well, at the young age of almost 40 years. Regardless of size and power of the engine, I'd recommend taking some driving school lessons and practicing drills and maneuvers in a controlled environment (closed area setup with cones) so you get more confident before venturing out on the streets.

      Thanks and congrats to you as well! I did exactly what you’ve described. The video was filmed last season so I’m a bit late with uploading it. Thanks to this 50cc I decided I want to ride bikes, went to a local safety course and just got my license a month ago. Can’t thank the nearest parking lot enough for endless evening u turns and slaloms. You can literally feel your slow speed confidence growing after each parking lot practice session.

  • @canaldorubicon4869
    @canaldorubicon4869 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Starting on the 50cc is the best thing you could do, I myself started riding at 16 years old and my first bike was a TZR50 from 1997, it gave me some headaches but it was the best bike I've ever had, the 2T motor is the best sound in my opinion, you seem like you are going super fast but never breaking the speed limit!
    I wish you have a great time with your 50cc, expecially that one, aprillia is a dream for who owns 50cc!!

    • @RidesAndTech
      @RidesAndTech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you’re literally banging through the gears and having fun while just riding within the speed limit! It is quite engaging and gives a good training before larger bikes. I bet modern 4 stroke 125s are similar in this regard, but 2t is a unique experience.

      I start at 16 with a Yamaha 100 , moved up to a Honda 125, Suzuki 150 TXR and RGV 250 b4 leaping to a ZXR750 in a space of 3 years . I just luv the 2 strokes

    • @RidesAndTech

      Thank you! I think some experience with mtb and cars helped a lot. Clutch biting point and engine load concepts are very same to cars. One great advice that I’ve got from some TH-cam video is a hand placement to avoid unexpected throttle. The first time I sat on it I wanted to put my wrist forward to be able to fully open the throttle. But if you do that and the bike takes off faster than you expect, you’ll instinctively try to hang on to the bars and thus open the throttle even more.

      It's true, I've ridden daily for 28 years, and the amount of people who I've seen on TH-cam who go straight for 1ltr bikes and then crash, and see it as a badge of honour (Max Wrist I'm looking at you). It's better to start with say a 50 -125-400-600-then 1litre bikes, there's really no rush to catch up with the fast lads.

      Also the oily patch in the middle of the road as you pull up to traffic light, always stay off to the side in the tyre tracks .
      As well, if you smell diesel, BE REALLY CAREFUL , it's the main ball ache of riding in cities and towns

    As a dutch guy you learn 2 wheel bicycle way before moped or motorcycle. 1st ever test ride on a moped was a bit wobbly but than when I got it home I was fine. 4 gears 50cc max 55kmh. Than when I sat on a real 600cc motorcycle the throttle response was the big difference but I only had like a min before I went on the road. ah yes I like this. Get comfortable driving the little 50cc aprilia and go for your full motorcycle license. Just be aware of your own limits and take it easy.

    Get some full leather gloves, I have never been a fan of how easy the textile gloves wear through, same with the short wrists, its simply less safe. I have years of racing and crashing at high speed (as well as too many on the street) so I know first hand. Good gloves will last several crashes at least same with jacket, pants boots etc. Textile you will be lucky to not have holes in it the first time. I'm also a big fan of one of two piece suits, boots with real ankle protection and spine protectors. Plan for the crash, and then do your best not to have one!
    Have fun, theres nothing like riding a motorcycle!
    It took me over 10 yrs to get around to getting my license, I just kept renewing my permit because my bike was not going to be acceptable for the drivers test (I got it for 200$). I even raced before I got it! I was quite prepared when I finally took it! Though I'm sure the laws there are different.

    • @RidesAndTech
      @RidesAndTech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I suppose I’ll have to get into full leather at some point when I get a big bike. I am a bit worried how does it feel on hot days but I guess I’ll get used to it. As for the license, yes, here it is mandatory and you go through multiple stages: A1 for 125cc under 15hp, A2 under 47hp and a full A for everything above that. But the difference is that you’re going through a safety course and then allowed to do the test on their bike.

      @@RidesAndTechyou can get perforated gear for airflow. Especially for suits and jackets it makes a big difference.

    I rode about 10k kms without a licence on a 700cc, no accidents, no drops, nothing. just be sensible and realize you’re a noob and don’t overestimate your skills. I’m doing my licence now😇

      Did that on a 200CC, for almost a year, no major incidents. Fell twice or thrice though. Eventually crashed and broke a leg but issue was riding at night at high speed on a highway. Thinking of resuming biking again, hopefully on a 400CC or 600CC but will sign up for defensive classes and get all necessary papers.
