Check out the Stretched Ruckus game, every celebrity has one. With a Cult following and Honda's reliability I see them going to 90% retail value of brand new ones, even as far back as 2005!
Don't forget the Honda PCX 160, it does like up to 85mph! And it DOES do wheelies, I can atest to that, Myself being a 300lb Gorilla. The scooter game is far different form the early 2000's, do some research.

@@wemane6361, pay attention to areas that could collect water or areas where snow is piled up. As it melts you get trails of water that can freeze into ice slicks.

Lived in Taiwan for 3 years. Had a Yamaha Nmax scooter. Loved it! Crazy thing is, nobody ever thought about driving with gear in Taiwan. It wasn't until I came back home when I decided to think about actually getting gear.

I picked up a 1987 Elite 250 for my wife, $650. Due to health problems she wasn't able to ride it then. After passing my MSF I used it to practice. Now I'm having so much fun I'm looking at some maxi scooters 400-650cc that we can 2-up some serious road miles. Scooters are a blast.

Funny, I finally got a Kymco 300 ABS a few months ago. Great addition to the fleet (scooter, small adv, mid adv, st, dresser). Lots of storage and great for riding around town-way better than a moto for town duty, imo. Great internal storage. Fun to ride and fast enough to worry about tickets. True about safety. My wife low sided and shattered her knee-in the class (I at least got her full moto gear on, so no skin or bone loss-should have gotten her ABS). The break was so unusual and bad that the ortho dr gathered all the interns in the hospital and made them come look because “you’ll never see this again.” Fortunately it didn’t require amputation, which was the main concern. Obviously, she wasn’t a good candidate for two wheels, but I didn’t pick up on that. You definitely can have a very f’d up day/summer on a “little” scooter.

    • @yukonjack.
      @yukonjack. หลายเดือนก่อน

That is true and sometimes when we become a little cocky and complacent a fucked up day can happen in the blink of an eye and it's true most times it happens close to home. I'm living proof cuz it happened to me in my own damn driveway no less although it's a gravel driveway. It was a nice warm summer day out and those brewski's were tasting mighty fine,🍻🐝 I wasn't drunk but I definitely had a good glow going anyway I hopped on the scoot to only take a quick buzz around the block to loan out a tool to a neighbor and as I headed to the end of the driveway (faster than I should have) because my neighbors next door have some bushes that partially block my view of the road and of course perfect timing here comes a car down the road as I come to the end of the driveway just before the street yet still on gravel & I slam the brakes on and down I went, didn't break anything on me or the bike but put some ugly road rash on that once pristine DuPont metallic blue paint, I felt like such a dumbass I parked it and didn't even get it out the following season, live and learn. Well now she's back out again. Scooters are the bomb, just picked up a Suzuki Burgman 650 to add to the fleet of miles and smiles & regarding my stupid spill I say if you can't laugh at yourself who the hell can you laugh at. 😉✌️

  • @gemini6620

I've been riding scooters as my primary method of transportation for about four years now. While they aren't very fun on the highway (open road with very fast moving traffic and no protection from wind strong enough to blow me into another lane if I'm not careful), I quite enjoy zipping around on them in the city. They are very agile and their off the line acceleration blows your average car completely out of the water (My Kymco Like 200i will do 0-30 mph in roughly 2 seconds on flat terrain, and 0-20 in one second!).
I can't really say how fun they are compared to other motorbikes, as I've only ever ridden scooters, but I will say that if you enjoy cornering, you should definitely give them a chance. You should also consider them if you're looking for a a two wheeled vehicle that capable of carrying more than just you. :P

I bought my first ever scooter this year, a 2022 Yamaha BWS125 (Zuma), and I'm loving zipping around the city on it way more than I ever did any of my motorcycles. And yes, the cornering on a scooter is way more fun than on a motorcycle in around town. Looking forward to Yamaha, or Honda bringing a 155cc flat foot well scooter to Canada with 13" wheels instead of my 12's, and just a little bit more suspension travel...what I believe will be the sweet spot for me. Whoever thought that practical could be so much fun.

I bought a Chinese Honda reflex clone. I had Hella fun on scoot mcgoot. Rode it over taking the harley a few times. It's nice to just sit back and chill. It was super comfy and easy to ride. Me and scoot mcgoot did alot of cruising around town. I'd buy another one in a second. They're fun, I don't give a shit what anyone thinks. As far as I'm concerned they are the clown who is missing out on a good time.

Interesting you post this, just as I am wishing Yamaha brought their Tmax to Canada. I would like an 800cc + version ideally.
Comfort, no buffeting, good handling, weather protection are all things I like more and more as I age. I think of it as a mini-goldwing and would love one to go with my other bikes.

From 2010 to 2020 I used my buddy 50cc scooter as my main mode of transportation while I was going to community college, since I only lived 10 miles away from the campus. After graduating and getting a job at a hospital somewhat close to me (20 miles away), I knew I had to get something with a little more oomph. So I got the lance Cali classic 125cc scooter. Top speed on paper is 60 mph, but I never take it past 45mph. I don't think scooters are for "pansies". I get a lot of waves from other motorcyclists when I ride around.

After my wife and I took the MSF Course we went out and bought ourselves Vespa’s. It’s been so much fun and has allowed us to learn at a more gradual pace. She has a 150cc Vespa while I have a Vespa GTS 300cc. For our style of city riding, they are both perfect and I can see ourselves riding these for a long time.
I always recommend the scooter life to my family and friends. I have also found that the Vespa community is very supportive and friendly. Most cities have a Vespa group where you can connect with riders.
Either way, go out there and enjoy the open road and always be safe.

very simple if you want a comfy daily/commuter with lots of storage space and weather protection (yes it can totaly replace a car) get a GT Scooter like Honda Forza or Yamaha Tmax... they are fast enough, they are cheap to drive with minimum maintenance. No Chain to worry about all the time, simple sit on it and drive. You can go every where also in your every day clothes if you want.... you can commute to work on cheap every day, you can go shopping, you can do nearly everything. Downside, its not a Sportsbike to Race or Enduro to go Offroad or a Cruiser to show off.... if you want that specific then go and buy that specific bike.... i ride all kind of Motorcycles since 30years and i absolutely love Motorcycles, but honestly for the every day use i take my Honda Forza Scooter, cheap, easy, reliable, comfy, enough storage space if needed. A Motorcycle is more a Hobby/Freetime thing, A Scooter is like an trusty everyday Car. I replaced my Car with the Scooter and until now i don't regret it in any way

Kymco and SYM are both Taiwanese companies and make the most reliable scooters in the world. In fact, as an example, both companies also make engines and sometimes entire bikes and small cars/trucks for other companies, such as Honda, Toyota, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Hyundai, etc. I forget which model it is, but one of the big BMW bikes is (or at least was) entirely made by Kymco, which also makes engines and other stuff for them.

I love scooters. I have had half a dozen and I've liked every one I ever had.
You can generally tell the engine size by the speed of the scooter. 50cc scooters go 35-45 mph, 150cc scooters go 55-65 mph, and bigger scooters can get on the interstate.
Where did the 80-132 miles per gallon statement come from? I've driven scooters for many years and I've never seen a stock scooter get more than ~105 miles per gallon. Bear in mind, the 105 miles per gallon came from a 50cc with 120 lb rider.
In my experience, it seems that many people have an exaggerated belief in scooter fuel efficiency. Most scooters I've ridden get 80-90 miles per gallon cruising around and 60-70 miles per gallon on the highway (at 55-65 mph).

A lot of those big scooters have a lot of space for stuff. Some of them you can even carry golf clubs under the seat. The really big ones take some practice at stops though, because there is a balance you have to maintain between the gas and the brakes.

I recently bought a 300cc Yamaha xmax motor scooter, i've had motorcycles before and while they are great fun they have some shortcomings if you want to use it as your primary mode of transportation. A scooter has lower maintanance (longer intervals, no chain), they are more practical, more fuel efficient and get better wind protection. I also don't care for shifting gears, both in a car as on two wheels so having an automatic transmission is a welcome addition. Especially in slow riding traffic and when filtering in traffic jams having an automatic is a big advantage. The whole 'you're not a real motorcyclist on a motorscooter' thing is just dumb really, who cares what someone rides, as long as its on two wheels!

Never had a scooter because I always thought they were slow and for people who were poor lol or didn't have a license . ( UK back in the 80s my brother had a 50cc which was slower than my push bike lol ).
I'd consider getting an electric one if it had big enough wheels to cope with the pot holes around here and went a decent speed and range.
My ebikes are great though and not sure if I need anything else apart from maybe a car for the winter would be nice sometimes but expensive.

  • @Jonasegway

Scooters have always been more practical. I'd still have my burgman 650 if it had lower revs at interstate speeds. I live in Kansas and I love taking long motorcycle trips and it was perfect if you started your ride in the areas I wanted to travel to. I got 235-245miles on a tank (would usually burn 3.5gals of the 4gal capacity at this mileage) with my burgman but i had to keep my cruising speeds around 61-63mph. Living in Kansas if I wanted to head to Utah or to the east coast, it would take me ages to get to where I am going if I didn't want to stop frequently. Cruising at 70-75mpg penalized me to a 190-210mile per 3.5gallon range. That burgman took me on a 7day motorcycle trip with camping from the highest to the lowest paved roads in north America and never skipped a beat.
My total miles for that trip was 3504miles and I only spent $134.07 in fuel (thanks to Suzuki tuning this motorscooter for regular fuel). 56liters of storage under the seat, I had a 56liter givintop case, its built with a cigarette lighter, 3 glove boxes, a helmet hangar, electronically adjustable windscreen, electric fold in mirrors, an over take switch that will flash your high beams, parking brake, 13' or newer executive models come with heated grips and seats.
Yes it's a porky 650lbs wet but I couldn't think of a better overall onroad bike. Maintenance is rediculously easy and all fluid drain holes and fill holes are all lined up next to each other. Tires are easy to get for it in a sense where the sizes needed for it won't be plagued by any tire shortages. It's an auto but it has electronic push button shifting if you want to change your own gears. It's a bad ass bike.
I traded it for a Honda ST1300 and the only 2 things off the top of my head that my ST does better then the burgman 650 is give me more range per fill-up and more storage (granted I use the same 56liter top case I was using with my burgman).
P.S. if you purchase the available side cases for the burgman, and use the 56liter Givi top case I have, you'll have a whopping 162liters of total storage space (possibly more)

i have a duke 390 that i use mostly in the city... i gained a lot of mobility compared to driving a car, but soon i noticed some things that i was missing that would be solved by a proper +300cc maxiscooter, which has lots of storage just under the seat (2 helmets + jacket/backpack+ waterproof vest+gloves+chain/locker)
so i am seriously thinking about getting a yamaha xmax 300 and sell the duke, and whenever i miss again a proper motorcycle i go for a 700-900cc travel motorcycle
or another solution would be going straight to get a tracer7 with storage and see how it behaves on the highway, and use that as a multipurpose bike for daily and travel/fun
whenever i drive my duke 390 at highway speeds (120kmh) its really messy, i have to reduce some speed to be comfortable with the wind (down to 100-110kmh) and all the cars pass me, which is also super uncomfortable/dangerous (as if riding a bike wasnt)
its a fun bike for twisties, amazing value... but honestly its too light and "naked"
I think that buying a naked is the number one begginers mistake... we just see how powerful, technological, and how amazingly cool they look, and forget about practicality... because at the end of the day they are only good city bikes but with the big inconvenience of carrying your stuff with you all the time
they can do everything, but they arent good at anything really

I started riding on the road around 1984 right about the time I was starting high school. Been riding a long time. That’s not included dirt Ike’s as a kid. My first street bike was a Honda CM400T. Since then I’ve had a fair number of bikes. Currently I have a Yamaha Tracer 900GT and a Yamaha Star Venture TC in the barn. My last bike I let go (traded out for the Star Venture) was a Suzuki M109R BOSS. Bottom line, I have handled some power and serious road bikes. Never really got into the full sports bikes, too many damaged pieces in my back from years in the military and repeated injuries. I can’t ride in that position without pain.
By far, my favorite riding is jumping on the Chinese 150 scooter to grab some groceries. Those little GY6 engines are fun and you can build those little machines into anything. I used to keep a pair of them. One was always under construction as I upgraded and swapped part and the other was pretty much stock except some heavier rollers to increase top end speed. My goal was 90MPH on 13” wheels.
Honestly, scooters are a different kind of riding and if you like cutting up the curves then scooters are perfect. Short wheel base and low center of gravity, they are nimble and light footed. Just a blast to ride. Easy to throw around, never hard to ride, even at low speeds. If I had to give up big bikes or scooters, I’d let my big bikes go. Unfortunately, that may actually be a thing. With the injuries in my spine in my neck, the wind buffeting and beating the head gets at highway speeds as well as the need to tilt the head up from a sporty riding stance is causing deterioration. The weight of the bagger is getting unmanageable with the neuropathy in my legs from lower spinal damage as well. With a 250 or smaller weighing in at under 300 pounds and the center of gravity being, basically at the ground, plus the step through design of a scoot, it looks like I’m headed that way for my riding. It’s a good thing they are so damn fun.
Unfortunately I lost my last two scooters in a divorce many years ago and never got around to replacing them. Now I just need to find a decent one around here. Maybe something in the 150-250 range. Like a Syn or the Lance Cabo 170 has been catching my eye… I guess it’s time to see what’s in stock with the shortages.

Scooters are king in Taiwan, being the motorbike capital of the world, and they weave all over the place like a swarm of incects. It's very crazy and kind of scary

Hello to everyone how's everybody today. My brother and I signed up a few weeks ago to go get our motorcycle license, but the classes are so full so we have to wait until August 12th 13th and 14th for our turn to go do the written test and the riding test.
I haven't been on a motorcycle since 1986 when I was in high school and never bothered to take the test or the riding test to make it permanent.
Last fall we picked up a Ninja 250 to learn on and through the winter ordering parts off of eBay because the first set of guys that had it damaged the gas tank, rip the back fender off, broke the plastic pieces cut into the wiring harness, ordered a airbox and as it turns out that was missing pieces so I had to order another one and use those two to make a good one.

Nice! A lot of people are getting into motorcycles now. I think people are realizing YOLO. Motorcycles are awesome fun and gets you away from the bs that is going on in life. Best of luck on your Ninja 250 build. Just make sure to wear all the gear all the time and stay safe! Best of luck!

Loved my 150cc Chinese made scooter. Would top out at 65 but going down hill and “tucking” could get to 72. At the time I would fill the take for 2-3 dollars and get from San Diego to Huntington Beach back down to San Clemente on a tank. Didn’t pay attention to what the actual mpg was but well over 80 mpg. Am currently thinking of getting a 250cc to ride to work when I don’t have the family with me.

I have both, vfr800 and 150cc scooter/motorcycle. They both fit nicely in my assigned parking spot, both are older and relatively cheap to insure and run. The scooter keeps miles off my Honda and is nicer when it gets hot

Insurance on scooters is dirt cheap and they last forever on a tank of fuel.

Well hot damn this goes to my recommended vids while a friend of mine offers to sell a scooter same as rossi’s but bigger displacement for dirt cheap.. to be fair I’ve been eying one for months as I’m getting older and I need less stress on my back.. I’ve had supermotos, bobbers and sport naked bikes that have good handlebar placement for my back but I need something that I don’t get tempted into speeding every time I get bored..

If the objective is to learn how to ride a motorcycle but start with a scooter, are scooter skills helpful or similar to motorcycle skills?
