Great to watch this man, have watched all the same TH-camrs spout the same bollocks, breath of fresh air to hear from a 1250 owner rather than someone spoon fed what to say, thanks mate.
I am a 1250gsa owner, bought it the day it came to the dealer. Now I had my day on the 1300 with ASA and even while I vowed to not buy another one, at 67 I bought the rally version. What an improvement on an already great machine.
Hi Si great real world review. So thanks for that. Id already decided to trade in my 1250 GSA to the 1300 GSA but wasn’t convinced about the ASA. But ive decided to rethink. How was the engine breaking ? Find I like that on the 1250 and did yourself reaching for the clutch out of muscle memory at low speeds. The measure of low speed stress is the green wellie parking on a busy day!! 😂
Glad it was helpful Jeremy, engine breaking must have been the same as the 1250 as I wasn't really conscious of it being any different. I wasn't reaching for the clutch at all to be honest but in under emergency conditions that might be different lol. I'm with you regarding Green Welly parking lol under the spotlight big time lol

Enjoy the review mate it’s nice to hear from a GSA owner just about the ride. I bought this year my first GSA and absolutely love it. I do a lot of touring with the wife and fully loaded and it does it effortlessly 👍
sat and watched that with my wife and enjoyed that, thanks...we might be in the market for one of these as a two up tourer, so this was very interesting. subbed.
Love listening to you talking bikes…so much sense and real world perspective on what the bikes are like. I’m really into the BMW automatic bikes that are coming to market and have ridden a DCT on Honda. I’ve ridden the standard gs asa and loved it so was glad to hear your thoughts. For me the asa was so much better at low speed handling too, which appears to be a main concern of critics to the system, but it’s better at clutch control than me and my overall ride was improved because of it. Like you say once you’re in and out of neutral and moving with a manual you’re often using a quick shifter…this asa just improves that convenience further and does it better…much like a quick shifter changes gears better. More positive reviews than negative and I can’t wait to get my hands on one. It’s not going to be for everyone, but maybe not everyone uses a remote control for their tv?!😂
A proper real world review, thanks for posting great insight and never thought the auto would be good feature but seems to have hit the mark. Thanks again, subscribed hope to see some more content. PS the guys at John Clark seem to get a good reputation.
Hi thanks for the test ride vlog, I did think you would have given us a more detailed update on the ASA but the fact you didn't perhaps belies the fact that the system feels natural and you settled into it incredibly quickly ?
Thats pretty much bang on Katie, it isn't like a car auto, it just feels like someone is clicking the quick shifter up and doing the down blips for you, very seamless and very intuitive system that still feels like a motorbike, hope that makes sense :)
I’m gonna watch this again Si, it was a sensational review. As the gent says bellow, no waffle just how the bike is and how it makes you feel. I’m so glad the Anakees work quieter on this bike over the 1250. Thank you very much and ive very much subscribed. ( PS mine arrives home next Friday).
Si, I had a 2023 DCT Africa Twin, which is a fantastic bike, but I felt it lacked engine braking, even in sports mode. So, I traded it in for a GS1250A 2024, which I've had for 6 months now. I've already put about 3,000 miles on it and I love it! However, I'm still drawn to the new GS1300A for reasons I haven’t fully figured out yet. Your review was fantastic-very honest and free from a sales pitch. So, here’s my question: In normal mode, did you find the engine braking adequate enough that you didn't have to rely solely on the front brake?
Great question, I cant actually remember lol, It didn't seem any different character wise to the 1250, jus spins up quicker and seems to rev a little harder but I do remember canceling the cruise and same as the 1250 it halls up really quick with engine braking. Hope that helps mate

Brilliant review. I'm going to test ride one of these shortly, which I'm looking forward to. When I first laid eyes on the new GSA, I was definitely thinking "wtf, BMW have ruined it!" However, the looks are growing on me....
Great review! I thought the bike looked really ugly in pictures when it first came out. But I visited Motorrad Inverness for a look the other day, and I was blown away by how it looks in the flesh. I’m considering swapping my two bikes (an RNineT and an NT1100 DCT) for a GSA with the ASA. Just need to arrange a test drive. Love your enthusiasm: Subscribed. 🏴👍
Hi Simon. Enjoyed the review. No doubt the new GS adv moves the game on in terms of tech, engine and suspension refinements. I will research what it would take to get one to fit me on the configuration. I currently ride a low chassis 1250 GS Adv. On the 1250 you really need to play about not just with the mode settings but also the individual suspension settings if you are a keen rider. I’d recommend the Just the Way it is blog on You Tube: the best explanation bar none on suspension set up can be found there. On the 1300 I wish they could have reduced the weight more. And the price for a reasonably specced one is too high. Great work. Keep it up👍
Thanks George, I have tried everything you can imagine including getting one of the best suspension techs I know to have a look at it, unfortunately when you are a large lad like myself suspension behaves a little differently lol, thanks George hope you're well.
I picked up my new R1250GSA Rallye nearly two years ago now and I have to admit it's the best bike I've ever owned after nearly fifty years of riding. If I was ever considering replacing it then this new 1300 would be high on the list. The only thing that would get in the way is I'll be much too old for such a big bike by the time my current GSA is worn out. Lol. The ASA clutch is a great idea as many bikes I've owned in the past have had stupidly heavy clutches even though some of those were hydraulic!. It will be interesting to see if BMW add the ASA to any other models as an option. I also went with 100% road tyres on my bike which transformed the road holding, the OEM Bridgestones were a little noisy but wore out very oddly the front wearing out in less than 8k klms and the rear looking like new!. I replaced them with Pirelli Angel Gt 2s and have not looked back. Sensational tyres.
I agree with you on the 1250 and road map. So I go for dynamic pro, which tightens up the suspension, but place it on a road map. Best of boat worlds :) Lovely vid.. I find it funny how you're talking about everything except changing gears and ASA, until the last 3 mins of the vid, that's the best bit. I was a bit afraid of jumping onto the GSA, considering it's size, but you're the 2nd person to like it, so I'm very interested now. Thanks for the vid :)
@@simotofoto keep watching your vid, as I like your accent, and as for the exhaust, yeah the akro is overpriced, but have a look at the Jekyll & Hyde can. a few bob extra, but you can switch between silent, nice and savage exhaust note
Great review... Thanks Si. Certainly a lot of criticism of the looks when first launched but great to hear your thoughts on the actual riding experience.
Thanks the review. As a New Yorker, it took me a wee bit to get used to your accent, but once I did, I really enjoyed your review. I ordered a triple black with the ASA, and I pick it up in December so reviews like this really help me understand what I will be getting. Thanks again.
@ it went well, have to say the ASA was easy to get used too, didn’t find a huge difference is speed from the 1250, the gearing was pretty smooth and the extra weight seems easy to get used too. but can wait for the new bike to arrive in a couple of weeks time.
Great review Si and I don’t say that as a GS fan, I’m not, I don’t like big ADV bikes. The technology on my car drives me mad, I don’t want that on my bike. About half the cars I’ve ever owned have been automatics as is my current car, I don’t think I’ll ever buy another manual car. But on a motorcycle whilst I’m physically able to do so I’ll be sticking with a manual box and a clutch. Others may of course have different opinions.
I get that Stewy, only thing I would mention is the ASA is a manual with quick shift bike it can just be flicked between both, the auto is not like a car it just feels like someone is clicking the quick shifter up and doing the down blips for you, very seamless and very intuitive system that still feels like a motorbike, hope that makes sense :). I get it though if you still want to stick with manual :)
the tyre noise is less because bm have fitted a sound shield under the headstock on your 1250 you can fit the after market cockpit cover and that takes the noise of tyres away

Another yank here albeit one who stayed in Motherwell for a few years so I loved hearing properly spoken english 😹. I’m not a fan of the look vs the R1250 GSA, but here’s a question for you. Great question, I would consider the new GS as sports tourer, its really agile, and really sharp, in comparison the GS adventure is more of a tourer for doing some serious miles on, feels a little more laid back. I think the standard GS is more exciting to ride but for an everyday bike the adventure would win it for me, its not cumbersome just not as sharp as the GS but has more in its locker.
I had the Michelin Anakee types also . Grip yes. But the noise was unbearable. I replaced them with the Michelin road 6. Same grip or even better but quite.

Strange that when you talk about suspension settings you appear to have missed out that you can vary the settings within the various modes. The standard setting in each mode is "0" but you can go in to the menus and stiffen or relax the ride within each mode by adjusting from Zero to "-1" or -"2' or "+"1" or +"2". Also I note from the display that the bike had the adaptive vehicle height control yet you made no mention. of it. It is one of the key (optional) differences from the 1250 model so Im surprised that you didn't refer to this.
Cheers Neil I mentioned it towards the end of the video. I have tried messing with the settings on the suspension, I have even asked my friend who is one of the best suspension engineers out there for help with it but it appears at my bulk its just not up to dealing with the additional weight. If you have managed to dial it in for yourself fantastic I hope it serves you well for many years to come. Cheers Si
Good honest review 🤷♂️ ... but keep both hands on the bars you know it makes sense not lecturing here but it can bight you on the rse ... Great bike l,m not entirely sure about the transmission 🤖
also mate i started on annakee adv then went to tourance they were shot in 4000 miles my annakees lasted 6500miles this set have done a 2000 mile europe trip and are hardly worn thats because i run them 2 psi harder i cant tell any loss of grip but i am getting better miles
Looks good and personally I have no problems with an automatic bike. Not for me mind, but then again, nothing is at the moment till I've recovered from getting wiped on my tiger the other month😢
Have to say I agree with both of you, My GS1250 Adventure, which was recently liberated by a set of balaclava'd affirmative shoppers, felt great going it to the corners, and always filled me with confidence . I received my GS1300Aventure on Saturday , the first corner I went into with a fair lead angle, it just dropped in so much easer, it actually surprised me. Lets just say BMW have managed to improve on perfection.
I know this is a work of art and technology. But don't you think it is an overpriced gadget after all. How many people can afford and maintain this bike. In my country it is 35k pounds. So I had to go Chinese. Voge and cfmoto. Two bikes less than 10k. And i believe Royal enfield is doing a great job by offering lots of capable bikes for reasonable prices also.
Hi mate, hey it's not for everyone, thats the beauty of motorcycling we have so much choice now to suit every budget and the great thing is there isn't a bad bike out there now imo, cheers Si
What is it with all these bloggers waving their left hand around when they talk? You are on a bike , keep both hands on bars you never know what is about to happen. Great stuff but ride safe!
Not inspired whatsoever to have one of these over my 1250. Its a very expensive "upgrade" of a bike that is still brilliant. And personally I just cant get past the looks ( some videos have taken to stating the looks dont really matter.... they do for me !), it is dreadful.

I had the Michelin Anakee types also . Grip yes. But the noise was unbearable. I replaced them with the Michelin road 6. Same grip or even better but quite.
Same here went with the Road 6's but miss the Anakees when light off roading
Great review trying one tomorrow
Hope you enjoy it!
@@simotofoto not for me mate noisy engine rattley and not so plush suspension I’ll keep my 1250 gsa ps and I did not want to give the steeler £7300 andmy 24 reg r1250 gsa TE 3.8 k miles
@@neilbrewer8493I know how u feel mate my 21 plate has collapsed in value but the only thing is it only gets worse not better 🙈
Just subscribed mate , Breath of fresh air review instead of same old drivel . I'm thinking of a change to a gs1250 myself 😁
Thanks for the sub, the 1250 is phenomenal Kev, love mine so much
Strange that when you talk about suspension settings you appear to have missed out that you can vary the settings within the various modes.
Cheers Si
Great video 👍
How did your 1250 feel when you got back on it?😅
Dated lol
Good honest review 🤷♂️ ... but keep both hands on the bars you know it makes sense not lecturing here but it can bight you on the rse ... Great bike l,m not entirely sure about the transmission 🤖
My bad
I was super interested with it
me too :)
also the 21 on gsa has a tighter head geometry than the pre 21 and all the gs models
Thanks for sharing Austin :)
also mate i started on annakee adv then went to tourance they were shot in 4000 miles my annakees lasted 6500miles this set have done a 2000 mile europe trip and are hardly worn thats because i run them 2 psi harder i cant tell any loss of grip but i am getting better miles
Looks good and personally I have no problems with an automatic bike. Not for me mind, but then again, nothing is at the moment till I've recovered from getting wiped on my tiger the other month😢
Cheers Togs hope you are on the mend and feeling better bro
@simotofoto yeah I'll be fine eventually. Can't say the same for my Tiger though, gone to motorcycle heaven
@@togs0762 :(
Great review mate . But at £23000 the shaft drive should be serviceable not a consumable at the cost of customer.
Thanks mate, fair enough!
my 22 my 1250 doesnt have the slow steering you speak of in road susp setting
Nice one Austin it might be something to do with my almost 20 stone in weight then hahaha
No one dares mention the price 😅
Hahahah true story lol
Noted :)
Not inspired whatsoever to have one of these over my 1250. Its a very expensive "upgrade" of a bike that is still brilliant. And personally I just cant get past the looks ( some videos have taken to stating the looks dont really matter.... they do for me !), it is dreadful.
@@GPR111 fair enough dude ✌🏻
Fire roads 😂that’s u sounding American now
hahahaha true story lol
Sorry, i just can't get past how butt-ugly this motorcycle is. I'll keep my R1250GSA.
Can’t understand a thing you’re saying moving on!
Try moving on without opening your YAP!
